  • As originally presented live at UK convention TFNation 2017, this panel goes behind the scenes of a Transformers G1 episode and shows how it went from idea to finished product, looking at a variety of documents, artworks, and more - including the very first audio-visual G1 deleted scenes anywhere ever!
    Raw footage of this panel was captured by attendees Raymond T. Fransman and Geoffrey Sproule, edited together by TFN host David Wallace, and further edited by me to incorporate the original images and videos.

    • @fbomb7184
      @fbomb7184 10 месяцев назад

      I must’ve been 11 when it first aired and this was the first episode to feature a combiner. I was blown away by the episode and went to the Toy Store (Toys R Us) as quickly as I could to buy Devastator. Sure he was shorter than Soundwave in the toy version, but Devastator was still incredibly cool.

      @Samuel Cannon
      That's pretty subjective. I also grew up on Beast Wars and the Unicron trilogy and only watched G1 last year. It was ok. It's a product of it's time but I do appreciate that episode titles were homages to old B movies, very old school sci-fi. For me it was seeing the old designs in action that was the major draw and I frankly prefer comic book depictions of G1 characters. Seeing the TF/Mars Attacks crossover comic and the Dreamwave G1 titles for example are a real trip. I'd recommend the original cartoon just for the sake of learning where old TF references and traditions/tropes originated from. A history lesson of you will, but that's just me. Although it does have it's moments. Like I said, it's ok. Not great, but not terrible either.

      Often it was with "Backlit animation." Each frame of animation has a corresponding black frame that only has the laser beam on it. The black frame has a cut out hole in it that real light from behind is projected through. They double exposed the light onto the animation. It's the same sort of trick used for the first Tron movie.

    Those Rhino DVDs were all messed up. People on the Transformers Usenet group were aware of the issues and would tell Rhino about them after the season 1 set was released, but they repeated a lot of the same issues in the subsequent seasons' sets.
    In addition to the mistakes shown in this video, Rhino also messed up the audio tracks by adding in sound effects that weren't supposed to be there, in an attempt at making a 5.1 audio track.
    There was only one thing I remember being improved by Rhino: they corrected the speed or pitch on the episode "War Dawn", which aired with part of the episode being played to slow resulting in the characters voices being pitched down. The Shout Factory version of "War Dawn" shows the episode as it originally aired, with part of the episode being played at the incorrect speed. (IIRC, they asked fans on their website's forum if they should fix this issue and not everyone agreed. Some wanted the issue to be fixed, and others wanted everything to be exactly as aired. I wish they would have fixed it, though.)
