Thanks Corridor, now I feel bad for every NPC I've left waiting for me to come back...
Then don't even start to think about the possibility of NPCs remembering everytime where you reload... killing them for fun, stealing from them, putting buckets on their head, having to repeat a battle over and over again until the Player finally kills the NPC...
Oh, that would be horrible, what i did in Oblivion... my gosh they would be traumatized, i mean if they were able to, alone if they seeing a mirror its done, i kind of had my hopes i could have a nice Necromancer Path, until i realized its forbidden to the max and there is none... So i found the right mods and yea kind of killed everyone of those citizens and ressurected them back to "somewhat" life, their eyes kind of looked blackish though, other than that there were fine, i think😅 @@jackwriter1908
@@jackwriter1908 I remember back in the early "Might and Magic" games. Every in-game 6 months, the game repopulated itself. Everything dead was suddenly alive again, including NPC's which were all killable. And they came back with full memory of what you'd done, so you got murdered as all the townsfolk rushed you next time you came to town.
Well, given that those NPCs usually don't have anything better to do than talk to each other about mudcrabs and raking their own carpets...
Well, if you keep them waiting for so long, then you deserve it!
This guy seriously felt like a alternate dimension homelander and I'm totally here for it.
I was thinking the exact same thing
Went looking for this opinion to make sure I wasn't the only one! Lol. From now on I'm gonna be doing my missions all the way through one at a time... if I can help it lol
DAAAMN! I was thinking about Homlander too! ^^
I only just watched The Boys, so now I can finally get all these references.
I was thinking Zapp Brannigan
I am loving how everyone is suited up in off-brand Halo/Spartan armor! The Unreal Marketplace is a treasure.
EXACTLY i said out loud "wow this is halo 3 armor but shiny"
Kirkland Armour?

It's amazing what decent lip animation can do for digital character expressions. Great job!
Crazier that it's all raw mocap plus unreal engine and not animated by hand at all
@@W4TH3JE5U5 yes that's even more impressive
And eyes, and cheeks, eyebrows etc
Starfield's got pretty decent lip animations, it's just everything else that's a bit wonky lol
Facial animation is one thing that works well in this game, until it don't
The most unrealistic part of this was how fast he got off his ship 😂
True😂😂😂
It was a good call not using the FaceMorph version. This better suited the theme. There were genuine times I could read emotion off both faces, which really made it that much better. You guys have pushed us one step closer to having the perfect face in animation!
The acting is also surprisingly good, considering how amateur they are
@@reezlawJordan has been acting since childhood though
@@reezlaw Amateur?! They've been around for years. The only reason I'd say this looks amateur is because they're testing something new and it's never really been done before
@@reezlawBait
@@Baileh they're not professional actors is what I'm saying
That lipsyncing is INSANE. The player character's Protagonist Grin is so good. Cant wait to watch the video explaining how you guys did this
They posted it on the Corridor Crew channel.
Literally reminded me of homelander 😂
@@RickR69 I watched that video right after this one. That MaybeHuman Animator program is insanely cool
is this a joke?
@@JoRoBoYo ...no?
Weird how I can recognize Sams facial expressions in the main character.
Yeah the side smile is trademark Sam
it's easy: he's got Bell's palsy
This feels a little like how it felt to play the original Mass Effect when it first came out. Incredibly immersive dialogue that felt REAL! Nicely done!
It helps that people like Rafael Sbarge are really good voice actors. I first appreciated his voice work in Knights of the Old Republic.
I absolutely love hearing the little menu animation sounds at the end and when he realizes 'the chosen one' untracked the quest he's like, "Take 5.... uhh 10".
Beautiful little touch.
This is actually a major pet peeve of mine with writing in video games... they make the main story super urgent and then overflow you with menial side-quests. "What do you mean I have to find your lost chicken? I'm in the battle for the fate of the planet, sir." At least put up some logical roadblocks so it would make sense for me to take a break from the main story (e.g. we're waiting for generals from other kingdoms/planets to gather before we continue with our attack.)
Yeah... Fallout 3: My father has escaped the vault into a super deadly wasteland... better find him fast! Oh wait... this place over there looks interesting... and there's this mission which takes me to Pittsburgh which is a direction my father definitely never would have gone, but still...
Fallout 4: They kidnapped my babyboy! Better build a shitton of settlements in random locations until I find him.... also let's visit Far Harbor for some reason! He'll definitely be there, right?
Cyberpunk 2077: I'm infected with a deadly neurovirus. I'm spitting blood every morning. Better take my time doing all the sidequests before I lock myself into the main story ending!
Witcher 3: I have to find my surrogate daughter before she dies! Hey, fancy a game of gwent?
And so on, and so forth...
@@blablubb4553 Exactly! I've used the same Fallout 3 example before when discussing this.
I didn't feel it as much in the Witcher 3, because I pretty much didn't play Gwent in my first playthrough and I had a very lore friendly Alchemy build that made it possible to overcome underleveled fights with the help of some concoctions. I did all the FOMO sidequests in another playthrough and just regarded them as seperate little adventures.
Nerd
this is why I love the first dead rising, the timer and the main quest having a deadline really added to the tension.
thats why i like space bourne they tell you go do sidequests till certain mission aspects are ready and its like yay playtime
I'm loving the armor pieces clipping, truly the definition of a chef's kiss
I couldn't look away from it once I seen it lmao. So good.
It's not just great graphics. The storytelling and the humor nails it.
not exactly top end for a short animation, but leagues above the 2005 engine that SF runs on.
I want a game with that main character !
I've never seen a more accurate interpretation of how it feels to us the player talking to a quest NPC at the end of the chain.
One day we'll actually be able to talk into our mics and NPCs will respond convincingly to the things we say. Then stuff like this will be a reality.
Edit: To all the people saying this already exists: I am aware of games that use ChatGPT or other AI to make NPCs more convincing. But they don't talk like humans would, don't emote or move like humans and especially don't show any sign of personality as they just throw generic lines at you. That's what I'm really referring to, NPCs that not only don't break the immersion but actually enhance it.
there's mods for Skyrim and Gta5 right now that allow this. Not quite perfect but if the ai was trained on this function, it'd be even better
@@shadowproductions969 Games like Vaudevill also show proof of concept. As a fan of RPG games, this is probably my most anticipated push in technology. And with AI being able to generate voices, they now have to show the right emotions as well as being able to remember and judge things properly.
One day? Next year bro
Already exists
Pretty sure that's what online already is. If the NPCs were all racist teenagers.
I wish there were ingame dialogs like this in a any game. Especially complete body language is still missing in all games 😀
bg3?
@@BenjoCovers damn I didn't play that yet. I've got to have a look into it, maybe my latter statement was not true 😅
@@GamedevLlama Yeah, they do have full motion capture for every dialog and it really makes the NPCs come to life
@@BenjoCovers I really should play that game. Just too many games to play right now.
And yeah, that needs to be a thing. The whole static presentation during dialogue looks very dated now.
Cyberpunk 2077 has both, and it's even perfect
If Starfield had this level of animation and camera angles, it would be a great game!
It’s already a great game
@@reclaimer405 its an OK game. It's not up to par for 2023 though. Running creation engine yet again isn't doing it any favours. If ES6 is built on creation again ES is done. It needs to be retired. Loading non stop is not acceptable anymore.
@@reclaimer405 would have been in 2013 or 14, not it's an okay-ish game
If this level of cut scenes would be in game it would be a different game, I don't get why making it better in Fallout 4 and then downgrade many years past.. I like Starfield, because I like Bethesda games, but it wouldn't hurt to the game to have more cinematic universe and not the talking heads 😅
@reclaimer405 most people just hate starfield to hate it
The Chosen One talking out of the side of his mouth adds so much to his characterization. Big Sam Gorski energy! 😄👍
The facial expressions are really freaking good, and the lip movements are perfect. Congrats Guys.
Sam's character looks absolutely incredible. The expressions, the face movements... it's real close to coming out of the uncanny valley.
I just watched the bts. I know the corridor crew were gunning for the new face swap app, but honestly the tech on the facial animation capturing is pretty impressive. There are AAA games out there that wished their dialogue cut scenes were as emotive as this. It’ll be cool if this face capture tech becomes common place in the RUclips animation sphere.
They absolutely nailed the changing facial features when they go in an out of showing emotions haha.
That sublte animation shift at 2:00 is Betheda, I can't tell if you did it on purpose, or if it just naturally happened, and it wasn't noticed, because it's literally so Bethesda. This is wonderful. Everything from the subtle Creation Engine animations... my gosh.
I can feel the love in..... Avast! The Chosen one has entered the system!
A hilariously honest take on hero worship.
The accentuated teeth, and lip movement is a great spoof on the StarField look. 😂
This is absolutely wonderful! Definitely one of the best things Corridor crew has made so far.
i really gotta appreciate corridor for always trying out the new animation techniques
this is surprisingly better then i expected..good job Corridor! This would change game story telling or even CG animation to a new level.
The lip animation is CRAZY!!! Very good job!!
Too accurate, I've left a mission in Cyberpunk sitting for like a year because I wasn't ready to make the choice yet... I love the facial animations here! It really helps cover for some of the less realistic bits that come from the capture process (like the shoulders on Sam's character being too low once or twice when you REALLY look critically) and you can really see Sam's acting and unique expressions in his character too. BTW I watched this before watching the Crew video showing how it was made and I'm glad you went with the Unreal render!
Being able to see Sam's expressions in the face was so great lol
I've never seen something that is such an obvious joke but also the complete truth to this extent ever in a video. Bravo.
This was hilarious and faces were A LOT better than the previous "controversial" video. Holy shit. Keep up the good work!
What video?
@@dimancor2925 I imagine Anime Rock Paper Scissors
I always feel bad leaving the main mission to do random things. Which is why I jump ship at a lull in the story.
"Oh, you gotta go see your girl and then we can meet up later to go over the plan? Cool. Lets schedule that for like... idk.. Next month? Yeah no, you'll get to spend more time with your Chica. Which is great because I definitely saw you die in the trailer. What? No, nothing man. Let me drive you around, we can go fight gangs together so your death-- I mean, so our friendship means something later."
Those faces turned out great! All the testing you did in the other video was well worth it. Also, that ending was amazing!! I laughed so hard seeing all of them just standing in the rain!!😂
It's the constant main character smirk that gets me the most.
Facial animation has come a long way since The Cutscene. Totally usable and watchable for a longer project like Local Zero
Love how The Chosen One gives off massive Han Solo vibes especially with the smirk. Just didn't connect it to Sam since he's had a beard for forever. Really need to see this production pipeline applied to Elder Scrolls and Fallout just to complete a Chosen One trilogy.
Now to throw a hornet's nest at this, I'm sure the smoothness of this project with allow many other production companies to make use of it, and will once again bring up complaints about digital blackface.
People don't understand how much goes into these videos! Outstanding work Sam and the rest of the crew!
Yall really love playing with that Unreal for those facial expressions, and I love seeing how well it works! Ofc another awesome video from you guys!
I can really see Jordan and Sam coming through. It's uncanny, but in a good way!
0:34, You gotta make a version of this where those thrusters just incinerate everyone, leaving behind suits full of smoldering, charred human jerky.
This was an amazing project start to finish - I love you Corridor!!! Ahhh. Just like someone else said a cloth sim on the character's bandana would help sell the animation. I think a better voice for J'allen's character like a burly person would help. But overall man it looks amazing. The mouth animation and expression you guys were talking about certainly shines through.
The amount of progress you guys have made is impressive. I love these videos guys keep up the grind 👍🏼
The way the chosen one has Sam's curled lip thing is so insane that can come through on the mocap.
I didn't even know this was you guys till the very end! (Didn't pay attention to whose channel it was and I watch y'all every weekend lol) I'm absolutely amazed by how clean and superb these graphics are. Outstanding job!
So well done with what you have. Excited for the future!
Honestly one of my favorite corridor crew animations. This is glorious
I’m just surprised the ship landed without any bugs.
i was half expecting the ship to stay there but the modules to take off lol
They might have cut it out in the edit, like they did both loading screens.
I was expecting everyone to burst into flames.
Incredible. Some of your best work yet. Always pushing boundaries. 👏👏👏
The corridor crew vids is going to be a fun one for this
A lot of time goes into these. Each short is really well done. I think they are all my favorites.😂😂
I like how goofy and accurate the lip flaps are
The face animations are unnerving, I love it!
This video made me appreciate Baldur's Gate 3 even more as a role playing game, because in BG3 if you ignore a quest that you get for an extended amount of time they'll somehow resolve it on their own, and made it feel even more immersive.. god i hope Bethesda can learn a thing or two from Larian studios
I love how the MC is wearing Ecliptic armor
I'm sorry, dear NPCs. I just gotta do this little thing, and I'll come back to you whenever it's done. Just stayyyyy there. I promise 😊😊😊
Sarah has told me about her quest for atleast 20 real life hours now every time i talk to her. :P
the facial expressions are so good, we need more of these!
This looks great! The facial animation is a little floaty, but overall I DID feel a connection to the characters. This is all very promising for the future of performance capture.
How are the facial animations so good! Whoever does the animations is incredible!
AI will eventually become so convincing and alive, that we're the ones who are going to feel like the NPC...
The expressions alone are just amazing. I love this and stuff like this makes me want to get back into 3D animations there are so many tools today that can make learning this medium more possible.
That's the problem with this kind of games, the player can wait for any amount of time without consequances, It's great for play time but it kinda get (at least me) people out of urgency for some quests...
Like you have to get to someone who is badly hurt, as long as you don't enter the location where he is, he won't die whatever time pass by...
Anyway it's a game decision and I wish there would be more game where you could lock some content if you don't do stuffs in time but also having a good new game+ experience so you could do it later and see what it get you...
For example Baldurs Gate goes the other route by having quests just run out of time and not being able to complete anymore without really a warning or anything. Sucks even more than a little bit of broken urgency.
Can you make a behind the scenes of this, like ive never seen a game so recompiled with such animation precision, like the lip sync is so on point. The expressions are phenomenal 😊
Still better facial animation here than in Starfield. XD
So, I've not been paying attention to the animation seen apparently. I was absolutely floored by this. I don't even know what to say. Good job doesn't seem like it covers it, but uh - good job. Good freakin job.
This was great. PLEASE make this a series if it isn’t already.
Best starfield vid EVER...so glad this one popped up in my rec list.
This is pretty accurate 🤣
Startrash, Starefield, Loadingfield and the list goes on and on.
Their bodies look like they're from a video game trailer.
Their heads look like Tony Stark in the Ironman suit.
Their mouths look like an AI trying to emote an expression while they speak.
I don't know how you made it look like three different groups animated the same thing with three different budgets, but you did it.
Yes. Total lack of cohesion makes it plummet right down to the bottom of uncanny valley. It really makes the whole thing look like a asset flip game.
This is awesome!! Excellent work as always 😂
your short films used to be so inspiring. now they just make me feel bad
That scene at the end that takes up the last 20 seconds instantly made me think of Wallpaper Engine. Corridor could definitely make some really cool wallpapers!
I wish so much if bethesda could have animations in quality like theis :D It looks like to me they just over and over copypasting the seame animations from their oldest games with facial animations :D
This should be a SERIES! WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
Dudes voice does not match up with his face 😂😂😂😂😂
Reckon they could have swapped the voice actors really
Man, the main character’s little side smirk and hairdo was giving me Homelander vibes. Spartan armor was a nice touch. lol. Fantastic job!
Rock Paper Scissors 2077
Facial animation is getting super UnReal. Great video!
Anyone else remember when corridor videos actually looked impressive?
Are you taking about right now?
Drinking the H8eraid
U should smoke less while watching RUclips!
Holy sh!t the lip and facial animations are amazing... we NEED this in games...
This just feels like no one actually played the game, the armour all looks wrong. The ships are dramatically oversized and there is literally no reason to take out the UC in starfield, unless they're supposed to be the freestar collective but those guys wear cowboy outfits not Spartan armor. And what kind of starfield mission has a dozen unique characters? None at most you have 2 companions
there is literally a questline to join the pirate faction and go against the UC + the main NPC looks very similar to your pirate boss. The faction missions like this usually have around 6+ main characters you interact with. Along with that it's not like they are going to spend dozens of hours remaking starfield assets for a joke and punchline...
@@---__-_---___ they could've just waited a few weeks/months for the tools to rip starfield assets to come out. There's a difference between npc's you interact with and that actually show up when you do a mission and the crimson fleet fight is against the UC sysdef not the entire UC also Delgado looks nothing like the character shown in the video
@@mathijscoret talking about the CF capo, Naeva. There are already plenty of models people have gotten from the game so far, but I'm sure the biggest reason a channel wouldn't use these is cause of the rights Bethesda has over their work. They aren't free for people to use in an animation that will make money. They all have to be made from scratch.
@@---__-_---___ you make a good point, and I had forgotten about naeva
4:46 -- I love the way he says that and the look on his face, HAHAHA! And the player is like _"Yeah, yeah, OK! Bu-bye ... see you, um ... next time (again)!:"_
That surefire +1 persuasion option to feed the black guy some Chunks chicken like he's a toddler...
THAT was freaking epic!!!! More of this please!!!
This is the next gen VR gaming experience with sentient a.i that we need.
4:48 "This is big stuff man!" 😂 Oh man, powerful words from an NPC.
Meta Human Animator raw looks so good! I can't believe the amount of fidelity you were able to achieve in this video. I wish all mocap/face animation in games looked this good. And it doesn't seem too far away. Thanks Sam!
This is reminiscent of the old YT Red vs Blue style skits. Great video guys
Now I can imagine being on some random mission 6 gameplay sessions after leaving him, turn a corner in a base and he's standing there "you said... you were coming back. You didn't... you should've"
In all complete fairness, I know for a fact we have ALL done this in every RPG game we’ve ever played, not just Starfield.
Maaaan we need a series of this! haha.
And now that I think about it... man the faces look amazing straight out of unreal or whatever model it came from. The facemorph notches it up and enhances it. Clearly it's not yet for video like y'all said.
Those facial rigs are AMAZING. Wow.
When you gotta finish those side quests first
The one things Cyberpunk 2077 did smart with overloading quest is that many of them have a time out moment, where the quest giver says they’re going to get back to you once they finish doing something on their end to continue their quest. In the meantime, you can continue your other quests or get new quest until the previous quest is ready for the next stage.
What does this have to do with starfield 😭
Corridor should've added the line "you're starting to piss me off!" at the end...
This is incredible hahah id love to see more of these
Yoooooo 😂😂😂😂😂 I love this so much!!!! Thank you to all at corridor for this!!! StarField is my favorite game currently!!!! Love the ending, you leave and they are still talking 😂💀💀💀
this was SUPER high quality!
