This is incredible. I love how Larry just took out one of his scripts to share... God, I wish I could meet with all my fav comedians like this... What an amazing opportunity.
The terrorist threat conversation scene is one of my favorites. Just the use of words like Cheryl’s emphasized “dying” and Larry’s “selfish, perish, semblance” and such is perfect.
haha yep, I watched it all over again and I realized that I had seen it. I just forgot all of it. As soon as I watched it though, it all came back to me right away.
If Ted Danson was watching this, he'd probably say "This like comedy heaven!". And I'd have to agree with him. Seeing Larry and Ricky sharing thoughts and insights on their comedy writing is an absolute treat! Thank you so much, Anteatr23
Wow--amazing that the Cheryl/Larry discussion of Larry's leaving town was not in the original outline. It's one of the funniest scenes in the history of that show.
i love that it´s not an interview but rather a just a chat between two comedians. they´re both funny in their own way. (and the "wagner" scene is hilarious, i love it when stupid people overract like that)
thank you for repeating what they already discussed in a different way, i must thank you. because I, like all the people you plan to see your comment. was too dumb to figure it out, until you came along in a blaze of glory, and showed us real dumb people what they had just discussed. much appreciated.
Of course for the most part. What is funny is he may not see the repercussions of his actions until the next or a later episode. But I cannot deny that he says and does things that many of have thought of but because we allegedly are socially aware and PC we don't.
Well it's funny you mentioned it and I know I deserved it. When I thought about it later I realized it was kind of moot as well and I was going to come back and remove it. Then I thought to hell with it, maybe no one will read it anyway. I was only trying to explain it to the one who left the comment that said they didn't get the show. Sorry for going overboard. I'm duly shamed.
9:20 I just realized that there's a guy in the background that looks like one of those Superman movie's bad guys. I guess that's a treat for Jerry Seinfeld lol.
In the vid leading into this one ricky said how telling the absolute truth in your films is funny, this was filmed like 2 years before his movie The Invention Of Lying
The over-reacting is what makes the show so hilarious. You're in a situation where you know the other guy is wrong but you keep your mouth shut in the interest in keeping the peace. In the show Larry crosses the taboo line and challenges them and takes the situation as far as it will go. In real life, Larry would keep his mouth shut of course. Speaking his mind in the show always lands him in hot water but Larry is always right, that's what's so hilarious.
you should watch HBO's Talking Funny, its Ricky Gervais, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld and Louis C.K. talking about comedy. you really get a different perspective of Jerry
I thought there was a season that I might have missed a few episodes but I could never figure out which season because the titles all sounded familiar. I suspected it was season 4 though.
@1armedghostsamurai hahahahaha nice one. i was like "NO! Bitches!"... he said "we just did it and we 'had' to tow it to a shop b/c that was the only way you could get the engine (and other parts) out by using the 'big' machines they have at the shop"... he actually said "big machines". they immediately start talking sports. after awhile i say "Their's a difference b/t scraping a car and selling the car for its parts!" him: "really it seems obvious to me" me: " not for me because im thoughtful":]
I hate myself, but it has nothing to do with being Jewish I just Love when Larry sticks it to the fanatical bastards on his show. He is brilliant and irreverent - the ultimate comic genius. And to have him talk to Ricky Gervais is simply orgasmic. Hicksx is right that this was Season 2 Trick or Treat. The end of it is the best treat too.
@BraniusBalki I agree. I came across something where Jim Carrey ( I think it was) said that comedians usually have a certain type of insecurity and seek approval through telling jokes and entertaining people. I don't think this applies to all comedians, but I do see it in some or another type of psychological thing going on. Comedians usually have another program running at all times in their head for better or worse and you can see how they project it in their own style of humor and content.
He does not pretend to take the moral high ground. He has stated the character is him as he is real life except on the show he "lacks social awareness and sensitivity."
He actually spoke very well of Jerry, but I have heard different accounts from acquaintances so I prodded him into being more objective about the guy, because he sort of put Jerry on a pedestal. The truth is most standup comics could not believe Jerry of all people "got a show". If you want an account of how Jerry reacted when his style of comedy was lampooned, theres a howard stern interview of gilbert gottfried somewhere on youtube. Gilbert would come on after seinfeld and impersonate him.
Yiddish is funny in itself, that's true. For complicated reasons. To Slavic speaking people, it sounds suspiciously like German. There's a lot of German in it. My native language, Dutch, has a lot of Yiddish in it. Amsterdam was about a quarter Jewish before WW2. Mazzel means luck in Dutch, the word tof means good. Mazzeltov means good luck in Yiddish. To us Dutch, Yiddish sounds odly familiar, but strange enough to be funny by itself.
I used to be a huge fan of Jerry's, and I actually have a few mutual friends with the guy. A good friend of mine was a staff writer on Seinfeld for 4 seasons and told me what it was like. The bottom line was Seinfeld had no more to contribute than any other staff writer, and larry came up with actual plot lines. Look at Seinfelds post Seinfeld career..Bee Movie stunk. His standup is boring and panned. The marriage ref is a flop. Meanwhile, curb your enthusiasm is universally acclaimed.
i think there's also some tension right off the bat between the two...if you watched part 1/6, it looks like LD was expecting RG would be meeting him wihtout a camera crew, and then RG took it the wrong way when LD was making jokes about it...definitely some kind of tension I think I overthink things way too much....not this though! I think
Erm, what? NBC offered the chance for a show to Jerry to star and write outright - THEY wanted him on the show, THEY wanted to have a show named Seinfeld. Every writer who worked on the show commented on how much they enjoyed working with a 'star' who did NOT insist on getting the best lines and scenes, and the only people upset when Jerry essentially had a non-role in 'The Bus Boy' were NBC because they were marketing Jerry as the star. Doesn't really point towards the man having a big ego.
this is so lovely to see them talking to each other, you can see how much they respect each other
Everytime I see these 2 comedic geniuses together, it sends shivers down my spine. Someone get these two in a movie together PRONTO!
"I do hate myself, but it has nothing to do with being Jewish" hahaha Larry is honestly the people's superhero in Curb
Its from a Woody Allen film
This is incredible. I love how Larry just took out one of his scripts to share... God, I wish I could meet with all my fav comedians like this... What an amazing opportunity.
Ben Stiller is great at this kind of humour. Probably why he was so good in Extras and phenomenal in Tropic Thunder.
This is brilliant. Any comedy writer should watch this. Lot's to learn here.
The terrorist threat conversation scene is one of my favorites. Just the use of words like Cheryl’s emphasized “dying” and Larry’s “selfish, perish, semblance” and such is perfect.
I love how she just throws the paper down on the side of the chair, not bothered at all
LD is just 24 hour funny. its like gold is always gold. hes an all time great and his shows are immortal
a "red snapper.....". so funny, luv it!
haha yep, I watched it all over again and I
realized that I had seen it. I just forgot all
of it. As soon as I watched it though, it all
came back to me right away.
Rickys analyses of Larry David is spot on , something I could never put my finger on
Interesting meeting of two wildly different personalities and cultures there. One of the best interviews/discussions I've seen.
"I do hate myself but it has nothing to do with being Jewish"....I frickin love that line.
The carpool episode has to be one of the funniest ever!
Oh man, thank you. I have been trying to think of where I had heard it before for the last two weeks.
the last scene actually made me cry with laughter, how can someone be this much of a genius?
LOL at Wanda "Why don't we ask the Terrorists if they could pick another weekend!"
It's one of the funniest scenes in the history of that show.
i think their work speaks for itself. ricky is really trying to pick larry's brain, the back and forth is really entertaining and informative.
Brilliant!
i love that it´s not an interview but rather a just a chat between two comedians. they´re both funny in their own way. (and the "wagner" scene is hilarious, i love it when stupid people overract like that)

There are Larry worshippers here annoyed by your post, and it's exactly the kind of thing Larry would think.
As this goes forward the two because at ease and it shows.
Season 4 - legendary!
This is so much more pleasant than the Garry Shandling interview. That was uncomfortable to say the least. Larry David is my hero :D
"I do hate myself, but it has nothing to do with being Jewish."
One of LD's best lines.
that couch looks super comfortable
Of course for the most part. What is funny is he may not see the repercussions of his actions until the next or a later episode. But I cannot deny that he says and does things that many of have thought of but because we allegedly are socially aware and PC we don't.
Larry for Emperor!
"I do hate myself, but it has nothing to do with being Jewish." Yes!
best idea i've read in a long time! Leon as the moderator
best comedy ever.
Any violence is inevitable, honest and truthful. We
laugh because we see the truth in it.
too right.
when the winter of life kicks in, thats when the thinking begins.
'I thought I'd never say this, but Larry's right!'
"I do hate myself, but it has nothing to do with being Jewish." LOL.
'I got a red snapper that will talk to ya!'
5:19
I love this edit. Says it all.
That scene with Stiller still the best
This one is a thousand times less awkward than the Shandling interview. That one gets painful!
I love this. Andy Millman and fictional Larry are so similar. Two of the great everyman characters.
"your a self loathing Jew!"
"Yes yes, i DO hate myself, but it has nothing to do with being Jewish"
Superhero.
Thanks, I'm going to find it. love your screen-name btw lol
I seriously got into the whole car chauffeur debate before. I'm with Larry.
wow this whole thing is just gr8 larry david is the king of smart comedy !!!!
ty gna go get the whole series now
That's a line in the Woody Allen film "Deconstructing Harry" as well.
That FUCKING seat!
I farted for a full 7 seconds while watching this.
You've got nothing on auntie Norah.
Well it's funny you mentioned it and I know I
deserved it. When I thought about it later
I realized it was kind of moot as well and
I was going to come back and remove it.
Then I thought to hell with it, maybe no one
will read it anyway. I was only trying to
explain it to the one who left the comment
that said they didn't get the show. Sorry for
going overboard. I'm duly shamed.
They left out the best part.. "where to, Mr David??"
One of my favorite scenes.
haha wanda is always funny on the show
9:20 I just realized that there's a guy in the background that looks like one of those Superman movie's bad guys. I guess that's a treat for Jerry Seinfeld lol.
Fiji water? Yeah, it's worth burning the world over.
The number of views dwindle with each passing part. A testament to the human attention span.
In the vid leading into this one ricky said how telling the absolute truth in your films is funny, this was filmed like 2 years before his movie The Invention Of Lying
Fairplay to his wife, i would be creasing up when hes says he wants to go golfing. Lmao
thanks
If you really know Jesus, the humor is more exaggerated! Love it.
The over-reacting is what makes the show so hilarious.
You're in a situation where you know the other guy is

@nerdsfn you're so right. friends was for people who didn't get seinfeld.
I thought there was a season that I might have
missed a few episodes but I could never figure
out which season because the titles all sounded
familiar. I suspected it was season 4 though.
"I thought we were cou de la."
the video response called "activia" has only 1 view. Long may it stay like this
i'm surprised ricky is not drinking a beer during the interview. Probably cuz he is so siked to meet and talk to Larry.
Its nice to see that larry David can afford those Fiji waters in the hotels that are ridiculously expensive.
the funniest three shows are ricky gervaises and curb your enthusiasm
Yes! The pot scene!
Holy shit, would have never recognized Joan Rivers.
I can't see how I could have missed an episode
but I've never seen the one with Ben Stiller.
Which season was that one??
@danutcase66
That's a good catch, I've seen DH a few times and I never would've gotten that.
@1armedghostsamurai hahahahaha nice one. i was like "NO! JESUS!!! Did you see Larry David's assistant?
yeah, on second thought it would
I got a red snapper that talks to ya!
FFS, how many people are going to post the "I do hate myself, but..." bit we all just watched?
Hi. What season would you say was the best. Or is that impossible to answer because they are all good?
Hello Dolly!
I like that they basically call out Ben Stiller for his bad acting in that scene. I was not a fan of his spots on CYE.
"I do hate myself but it has notin' to do with being Jewish." ahahaahahaahahaahahaahahaa!!!

"eh.. I'm OK"
"I do hate myself, but it has nothing to do with being Jewish
What episode of Curb is that with Ben Stiller? I havent seen it yet.
He actually spoke very well of Jerry, but I have heard different accounts from acquaintances so I prodded him into being more objective about the guy, because he sort of put Jerry on a pedestal.

hilarious...

8:17 - Larry has a TINY foot.
Oh ricky hasnt saw everything, cause his little book is an episode in season 1
i think there's also some tension right off the bat between the two...if you watched part 1/6, it looks like LD was expecting RG would be meeting him wihtout a camera crew, and then RG took it the wrong way when LD was making jokes about it...definitely some kind of tension

@RohRohToday
Ricky Gervais is appearing in two episodes of the next series of curb so your wish is granted.
