Still rocking an AH350 Head and 2 cabs, I use a trolley to move them :) WTF happened to graphic EQs? ...Maybe they've decided this generation doesn't have the attention span.
I'm always amazed how you guys can embelish any bass sound. All the reviews about the Elf until now showed it is a Little 'midrangey' and The tone was not pleasing me. Right now I feel that I really should check it out (where I Live it means buy and maybe sell later)
Should have read the manual, one of the most important things about the ELF is how the gain know works, while it's green it's just gain, when it gets up to orange it starts to compress, go all the way and it starts to distort (intentionally). This is a huge part of the sound of the amp, shouldn't have missed it. I run it 9/10 on the gain all the time
I bought a Darkglass M900, then took it back and swapped it for a Mark Bass Ninja, then took that back too. Because my old Trace Elliot AH350 with it's 12 band graphic, has more bottom end and tone shaping than these 4-5 knob kids toys. I wish Trace Elliot (peavy) would get their shit together and re-release one of their classic heads like the AH600smx, that was a bass monster.
Yeah I wish they would as well, but at least with all the guys trading in their smx gear for modern lightweight stuff makes for some great used deals :)
why don't any of these bass amp reviews actually show what happens when you play be amp with a drummer? If you really want to sell me, the best thing to do would just be to set up a pair of stereo condenser mics on one end of the room and a band on the other side of the room. no close micing. Let's see if the amps can cut through the mix. anything can be made to sound good when close-miced or ran direct. But I need real-world applications.... (same with guitar amps)
I'm looking for a device to replace my brutally old GP11 (which weighs a ton in its oiginal wooden rack). Love the pre-shape-switch on the GP11 and I wish they'd added this one to the ELF as well. Killer feature. Great review though. Maybe I'll give it a try, combined with my Alpha Omega Photon.
good review, but I would like to hear that amp through a more conventional cab like a 2-10, 2-12 or even a 4-10 just to get and Idea how it handles a less efficient speaker set up.
Great sound! I just got the TC Bam200 and 208 cab, and I'm a bit disappointed, as I've heard they sound about the same as the TE, but from what I hear here, that's not the case, and actually it would be surprising, considering the price difference.
How well does that little 2x8" cab deal with downtuning and/or 5 string basses? I am looking for a good portable little practice amp, and I play some pretty low stuff (drop C on a 4 string, drop A on a 5 string). Love the sound of this little thing in the demo, just wondering if it is practical for me.
