The 8.2-liter fuel pincher in a school bus application, whether naturally aspirated or turbocharged version you could burn through some head gaskets. But when the engine was running right, especially the turbo engine, it was one freak nasty engine that would roll down the highway that never would bog down

That logo appeared in many early 80's GMC diesel trucks.

Great engines I’ve owned 3 over the years and anything on the late 80s side is reliable. Clean engine you have there and good video

These things suck trust me I now I used to work as a mechanic at Detroit . It might be good in a genset application where it’s going to run at a steady 1800 rpm plus it’s only got 755 hours which ain’t much . They blow alot of head gaskets, it’s got a horrible open deck block design, when the oil pump goes out the block is junk . They suck in boats and trucks.

It’s hard to sell these things. If you yank it out just blow it up. I would’ve just left it there as a standby generator. These things are dogs.

I sold that engine to a guy in Europe. He needed to for some odd ball motor home. Always one guy out there!

No these suck I worked hundreds as a mechanic for Detroit and they are the worst diesel engine ever made in my opinion . They have a horrible open deck block design which is weak and caused head gaskets to blow like crazy, when the oil goes out your block junk because the oil pump will spin in the oil pump recess most of the time when it goes bad which is machined into the block . In the GMC trucks you have to cut holes in the firewall to get the pushrods out and that what the GM service bulletin recommended . These things suck . This engines fine with only measly 755 hours but anything in the diesel industry is going to be fine with that little of hours .

@@dave0z96 of course you did and they were Dave...but then YOU don't like anything....you failed to mention the firewall issue was only the first two years of truck and then they put in access panels...but hey...that 'fact' would discount your opinion would it? Open deck design may have been an issue to a point, but there are lots of these things out there that weren't over loaded and or lugged around ...and they do a decent job and are pretty miserly on fuel.
But of course...you got your Old Guy opinion based on shit for facts....and you gonna keep it an spread it around like a whore w/the clap.
