    That's not exactly blowby. It's a crankcase vent. They are designed that way and do it when the engines are new. It's negative pressure coming from the crankcase from the bottom side of the pistons. Blowby is compression as well as combustion escaping past worn out rings down into the crankcase

    These things suck trust me I now I used to work as a mechanic at Detroit . It might be good in a genset application where it’s going to run at a steady 1800 rpm plus it’s only got 755 hours which ain’t much . They blow alot of head gaskets, it’s got a horrible open deck block design, when the oil pump goes out the block is junk . They suck in boats and trucks.

    • @davidrockwell4604
      @davidrockwell4604 10 месяцев назад

      Gears should have numbers to match up. Timing the pump more accurately involves a dial indicator measuring plunger travel at a set point. This is not correct, but something like .9mm at 8 degrees btdc.

      Should just need 12v supplied to injection pump. Only two choices to power on pump. Cold start advance or fuel on/off. Next you need power to the starter, along with a ground. Use jumper wire to engage starter.

      Out of a skid like you. I used the s4s to go into a cat 246. It originally had the cat 3034. Turned out to be a lot of work to change engines. Make sure you make a plate to install your rear main bearing cap/side seals. I also found my idler gear had worked the bushing out a bit. Oh, and I found a bent con rod during reassembly because the piston was protruding unevenly out of block. I still have lots of parts if you get into a bind.

    I used to work for U-Haul in their repair shop and in those days, they still had a truck called a "TC". '77-'80 F350 with a 14' box, 330 v8, NP435 and Dana 60 rear end, riding on 8.00-16.5 B.F. Goodrich "Workhorse" tires. In stock form, those engines aren't much for power, but literally indestructible. I remember one came in from a rental shop about 30 miles north and I pulled the plug to change the oil and there was barely a drip coming out of the hole. No rod knock, nothin'. Ran just fine. I checked the log book and it had been 10,000 miles since the last oil change had been logged. I changed the filter, filled it with oil, did some other work on it and sent it out. It was just fine. Amazing vehicles.

    I had one of these in a Super mastiff truckmixer in the 80’s. Did 10 years work, was a bit underpowered so you knew it on the hills. After having pistons and liners by year 4, then an exchange engine, finally gave it up in ‘91. Always ran a bit hot, probably because it was modified (to run the mixer pump) with a hole in the rad which had a small prop bolted to the crankshaft. Such fun!

      I'm not quite understanding what you mean by that but Perkins makes a really good desiel engine. This is a detroit diesel two stroke 4 valves per cylinder super charging is actually part of the intier system. Hence the name Jimmy huffer. Something the old hot rodders used to call the super charger way back when. It's also roller cam operated. Opens all 4 valves every stroke earning it the nick name screaming Jimmy. Perkins came in massy Ferguson tractors one of the reasons there really good tractors in my time red and Grey color. Highway and city departments mostly love them for being tough and their longevity last for ever so to speak. So I'm not quite sure what you're talking about but that's cool both good engines.

    In my humble opinion - every 10 years or idk.. 150k miles.. you should do a complete overhaul on any engine. It's just good practice. I have 220k miles on my Mercedes B200 2005, and it runs like a champ. Currently, starter is on its way out and it needs a new thermostat, but the engine is solid. But I did preventative maintenance.

But when the engine was running right, especially the turbo engine, it was one freak nasty engine that would roll down the highway that never would bog down

  • @Tchristman100

      on diesels its often an injector that has become contaminated.......crud,rust etc. On an GM 2 stroke like this it could just be lash on the camshaft driven rocker to injector tolerance. Either way, not a big deal, easy to fix.

    • @Tchristman100

      @@DRNEGOLICIS Sorry, a clogged injector won't cause a loss of compression and an obvious dead cylinder when cranking. A 6V-53 has an even firing order. You can hear the starter skipping a cylinder on the crank up. But-it's not my engine-do what you want.
