from dragon quest, to dragon ball, dr slump, chrono trigger and more he left an amazing legacy that will be loved and fondly remembered by those across the globe for years to come
any character he designed or took influence on is something you recognize on sight
to be that unmistakably notorious is the sort of fame any human would crave, and just as notoriously, the man was egoless in spite of that

It frustrates me at how little this series is celebrated in the West. Hopefully this entry fixes that. September 4th can't get here fast enough!

I'm a huge JRPG fan. I count Suikoden 2, Persona 4, Grandia, Xenogears, Xenosaga III, maybe even one or two of those Tales games as some of my all time favorite games. However I came into contact with Dragon Quest and even Final Fantasy really late. I liked some of the FF games, but DQ never really clicked for me. Even playing DQ9 in coop with my wife wasn't that enjoyable to me as it was for her and Dragon Quest 8 felt really dated to me. On top of that, I always disliked the aesthetics of Toriama's character style.
BUT! For some reason, I fell in love with the looks of Dragon Quest 11 immediately. And while still feeling classic, the gameplay wasn't stiff at all. It was modernized in the right parts and now I would say, that Dragon Quest 11 is one of the best JRPGs, I've ever played. It even scratches all these classics of my personal favorites. This is such a good game. I absolutely didn't expect it. I bought it for my wife again, but ended up platinuming it immediately after >148 hours.
I'm still debating whether to get this game now... or wait for the Switch version so I can have portability (which I prefer with my RPGs) at the cost of paying more for the game.
I can already tell you which option appeals to me more from a financial standpoint.
I'm waiting for the Switch release, hopefully the Hero being in Smash gets others to buy this game now!
oh question sir :o i so wanna buy DQ11 (actually i play DQB2) . for the episodes of the main serie , can i play 11 before any older , or do i have to play em from 1 to 11 to get the whole story? :o

Bought the game and when I saw this opening it gave me maximum hype for it.
Bought the game some hours ago, and felt the same you described: I feared it would be a simple RPG, but the opening dissipated all initial doubts. I feel relieved now. Back to play!

if you don't already buy it, wait switch version because they add some expansion story related on switch that very probably doesn't come for ps4
Getting the ps4 version is a bad idea, the switch version is only a month away and puts the ps4 version to shame.
The ps4 version has bad music made with trashy midi samples outside this intro movie you just watched. Wait for the Switch version, it's going to be better in so many ways. Its literally called the definitive edition.

I was 4 when I first heard Dragon Warrior I overture on my old NES. 29 years later, watching this beautiful cinematic makes me tear

I can't wait to have DQXI as my first DQ game experience of that wonderful world. Square Enix have not made it easy for me to get into DQ when their advertising of it is literally non existent, so I found out about it way too late. I actually found out about DQ randomly going through the 3DS e-shop 3+ years ago and a friend told me it's huge in Japan but I didn't look into it enough until Switch was brought to existence.
Now with Switch I'm finding hundreds of franchises I have never heard of and cared about but now I want them all! I'm extremely excited to get into DQ through my Switch. I'm hoping DQ: Builder 2 turns out to be what I wanted DQ: Builder 1 to be. I would love to have DQ: Rivals too. The only card game I freaked out about when I saw it. I need that game.

We finally get something from the western version of the game! I can't wait to have this on my Switch. Holy shit, this is the first thing we hear and see anything of it for more than a year or so. I see they went with voice acting. That explains why it's been taking way longer than it should have to be ready for us in the west. I would have been more than fine without the voice acting so we could have gotten it way sooner but at least it's coming.
sadly you will have to wait atleast another year to get it on the switch as the release date is only for the ps4 and pc version.
