This is one of the all-time, genre defining classics now. Right up there with Bukem's "Music", Goldie's "Inner City Life", Roni's "Snapshot"...it's THAT special.
Tears fall out of my eyes involuntary at 6:07 .. its one of those songs you can associate so many memories with.. good or bad. And yet, I also feel better after listening
YES! YES! It's exactly how I feel. Even think of the title of the song. It's like a song for the end of the world or something, like eternity and fighting through extreme difficult situations. Overcoming extreme obstacles.
I randomly woke up in the night with this song in my head a couple of weeks back. I’ve been wracking my brains ever since to try and remember who it was. So glad that I found it again!!!
Remember the "rewinds" in different clubs it was played - think 20 years ago...and still nowadays the goosebumps @ around 1:50...overwhelming, that track 😍
He signed a dollar bill for me 20? years ago. It was all I had for him to sign, and then Hurricane Katrina took it. But I will never forget dancing to High Contrast in the upstairs of the State Palace (New Orleans). ✌️ And I blasted this 24/7 driving around the city.
My 2nd time being totally immersed in the rave scene. It's crazy to think this was 20 years ago, and even crazier to think my 1st time - the greatest time ever, never to be touched - was 30 years ago. Out to all the original ravers....
I'm 36...first rave was 20 years ago @ the Sanctuary, Milton Keynes! From then I was addicted & raved to DnB EveryWeekend all over London...No longer live in London & my heart aches for it ✌💜🎶
I quite clearly recollect the whole atmosphere in the background of the chill out talking to fellow raver friend’s when I used to speak my mind, so many memories and vibrant feelings of the time attending the odd rave. Now I brock out to PsyTrance whenever I get the money available to me.
Stopped listening to dnb the past nearly 20 years and listening to this again now I'm like 'WTF WHY?' This was like our faaave tune back in the day and godDAMN it sounds just as good now as it did then.. that bassline OOOF! Sooo many amazing fuzzy memories tied to this
I remember recording it on a cassette so we could listen it in my friends dads car. Went for our first ride on gravel roads with this tune playing. We were 13 at the time and I still remember the adrenaline rush when playing this track.
I think as the years have gone by people have been losing their passion to create works of art, but now rather do it for the money. Others like High Contrast never cease to amaze me with tunes that form out of a passion from within.
Will never forget the first time I heard this tune being played on BBC One and then listening to it on a proper sound system the weeks after. Still gives me goosebumps to this date.
This track any many like it from Hospital are like time capsules that transport you to a possible future/alternative present where all dreams come true.
Fabio played this as his NYE tune at the Millennium Dome 2000/2001 Will never forget those times , the best of times. Kids nowadays just have no idea how unlucky they are living in 2021
I swear if anyone is wearing a bracelet of shame they prob getting more time outside than I am atm. Walking round and round my garden feels more like a prison excercise yard. And I cant skank out to d'n'b in front of the neighbours!!!
Introduced my GF to High Contrast the past couple of days and she had the same problem just before bed! She couldn't get Kiss Kiss Bang Bang out of her head! (No pun intended...)
DNB ENTHUSIAST That's true. As long as artists like Calibre & Lurch exist, DnB will surivive, it's hard to commercialize a niche genre like what was done with Trance & House.
edward nigma I've often wondered the same. Or thought. Okay. We'll get dubstep in first. Then people would realize how not good enough it was. Then everyone will jump over to the next best thing. Dnb Liquid. Ah well.
+luminusnite +edward nigma Folks, you are describing scenes that got big and died down again around 5-10 years apart. Its says this came out in 2002- although it sounds more like his 2nd album stuff which came out 2004 By the time "Night - benga/coki" came out high contrast was on his third album
Dubstep was never as big as Drum and Bass, not by any stretch of the imagination. Tbh DnB/Jungle at it's peak, you probably wasn't even born at the time?.
p cha dubstep did get bigger then drum n bass in the late 2000’s to early 2010’s, it’s died down a lot, thankfully. I was alive when jungle/drum n bass hit it’s peak, tbh.
That moment when you listen to the whole album, and come back the start........... Seeing..... Double.... Sssssshhhhhh.... Beautiful album, sorry for after the apostrophe......
Still feels ahead of it’s time in 2024. Truly epic. Masterpiece.
pure gold last forever !
This track is 18 years old... and still sounds fresh.
High Contrast, we are not worthy.
It just become adult. No worries, just come back and listen. We still here.
My overall fav drum n bass track... the greatest ever
Great comment, so true.
It was definitely ahead of its time.
crazy I had this on vinyl
I love in the 2003 Essential Mix when he mixes this in. It's almost triumphant. With that spoken sample over the top too. Timeless.

One of the greatest dnb tunes ever Its like I've known it my whole life or heard it in a previous life
This brings me back to high school listening to dnb 24/7 via Bassdrive internet radio on Winamp and loving every minute of it!
Same here bro, big up!
i just realized this is the 1st song on his 1st album. fucking legendary
Finally found it. I was looking so long!!! A true hymn of drum and bass. Thank you HIGH CONTRAST!!!!
One of the most addictive Tracks ever. Them BreakS never tire.👏
Timeless and eternal. Light years ahead of its time. Still beats new release drummers tunes for production to this day. Masterpiece.

Remember in DC (usa) buying this in tower records . 2004 ? 2005? I dunno . Dnb fan for life homie . High contrast is like a Dj premier to me .
I think as the years have gone by people have been losing their passion to create works of art, but now rather do it for the money. Others like High Contrast never cease to amaze me with tunes that form out of a passion from within.
This and LK 'Carolina Carol Bela' are the greatest drum and bass tracks ever in my opinion.
Still f**king outstanding in Summer of 2019. Stone cold classic!!!!!
It's even better in LockDown!

one of the most epic drum and bass tunes ever. nothing else like it
Well constructed classic, have always loved this tune
nearly had so many car smashes cus of this tune wat a banger, out since 2002 mad to think how many
Iconic tune.
This is the track that made me into a DnB head. Unforgettable!
+NesTester2011 Same here. This was the first DnB track that l became obsessed with. Probably prefer the Klute remix though.

Oh yes, RUclips suggestion used to have this on vinyl gave it to my friend as a gift
and everyone i know wonders why i am obsessed with drum and bass
They don't make it like they used to.

DNB ENTHUSIAST That's true. As long as artists like Calibre & Lurch exist, DnB will surivive, it's hard to commercialize a niche genre like what was done with Trance & House.
Trance is still underground brother. House however........
Trance is about as underground as the sun unless you're getting into psytrance and it's deeper complex forms.
I still cant believe dubstep got bigger than drum n bass. with masterfully put together songs like this it just makes you sit back and say "huh?"
edward nigma I've often wondered the same. Or thought. Okay. We'll get dubstep in first. Then people would realize how not good enough it was. Then everyone will jump over to the next best thing. Dnb Liquid. Ah well.

Amazing tune! I listen to this nearly everyday and it still sounds as good as the first time! Gets me movin'!!
High Contrast what a legend!! remember when he was in a bar in cardiff starting out.... well done to the lad.
still a haunting tune after all this time
There is just something about it, isn't there?
yeah many of the God Tier atmosphere DnB tunes have that wistful euphoric yet just a tiny dash of melancholy which is what makes it so emotional
The first time I heard this, I teared up. So beautiful.
how this song doesn't have over a million views i do not understand
it's doing pretty damn well for a dnb song tho
we are the lucky one's
DnB definitely like wine!!!!
Pop music is like soda pop. U just want the excitement of something new... and its bad for you :o
perfection
this along with 'if we ever' are possibly the best drum and bass songs ever made. (in my opinion).
Can't believe I haven't heard this masterpiece before
