Thank you for this. How do you know which color represents which altitude. And is there a way to export the 3D mesh so that people without this software can view it. Thanks again
When I import the images into Pix4D, it automatically extracts the geolocation but I presume you could also obtain it manually from the images by using the EXIF file you mentioned. I do not believe it comes from the flight logs.
Wow, that was a very quick response. Thanks mate. Hope I can share my experience too. Our company just bought P3 pro and Inspire. While I myself have been using fixed wing drone for quite sometime. :)
I have never tried making a 3D model of only a building but I would recommend that you manually fly your drone around the building while taking pictures and then import them into Pix4D.
Thanks for the timely response. I have one other issue, I flew it today and the drone flew the mission perfectly except for that it didn't take any images. Flew the path great though. any idea on how to correct this?
nice video but when you import the images is possible to read de gps coordinates of the site you took pictures of... I would not show such information just in case...
Why am I getting failed process ? it says no block computed, no calibrated cameras. Can I test the software by images weren't taken by drone? Aby thoughts will be appreciated it.
Hi, If I understand correctly you are trying to use images from a normal camera in Pix4d in which case it will not work because in order to compute the 3d model, a geographical location is needed as far as I know. Hope this answers your question.
+WorkshopScience thanks for your quick reply. Yes you are right I used my camera which provides X, Y and Z values. In fact I didn't use a drone to capture them. My question is am I receiving this error because I didn't use a drone even though my images have geographical info?
I have never personally tried using anything other than a drone in Pix4d but I assume that the drone also gives the angle and direction in which the camera was pointing so perhaps that may be what you are missing although I may be completely wrong about this. Maybe you are taking the photos in too small of an area so the GPS is not precise enough to position the images accurately? I also found this article on the pix4d website that might help: support.pix4d.com/hc/en-us/articles/204542375-Error-e0046-Processing-failed-Cannot-compute-the-average-ground-sampling-distance-GSD#gsc.tab=0
May I interject, you can check whether Pix4D knows the camera calibration of the sensor you used, if not, then there is now posibility that the software can process your data even if you have geographical location. I think you can see that after you import the pictures.
would I be able to manually fly the route, taking pictures as I go and then upload them into the computer software without using the app on my phone. not sure I trust their automatic system
usually flying manually results in poor image quality. It takes much longer and is very hard to keep the lines steady and you need to manually take pictures every x seconds, which is difficult. I highly recommend using an automated system. Pix4d is pretty reputable, but you should try DroneDeploy too, if you are using a DJI Phantom. If you are using a 3D robotics system, you could use mission planner for automated mapping.
I am not entirely sure as to how precise it is but in my testing it was +-50cm. This will of course also depend on what height you took the pictures at
Is there a place you can upload the OBJ file so people can view? I'm looking into doing this for real estate and would like to have it on the website I have the house listing on.
You can download the trial version of Pix4D and it comes with a demo model that you can export to OBJ. This model is more complete then mine so it will be better suited for you. Hope this helps.
This app works with all Phantom series drones, Matrice 100 and Bepop 2. You could take pictures manually without using an app. App just helps you to overlap the images properly and stay within the boundaries.
Hello, I have a phantom 4 and I'm using the pix4d discovery in processing the photos I get uncalibrated camera in 3 photos and regular rest, Sustain me.
Hello I have not personally encountered such an issue but I would recommend that you try increasing your image overlap or fly the same route again to combine both runs and remove the uncalibrated images. Hope this helps!
I cannot remember for sure right now however I believe that you will need internet connection initially and then the map of the surrounding area will be downloaded which means you can then go offline
Where do you live that you can fly over houses like that with out breaking the law. in Canada the law limits our flight near people and buildings... unless you file a flight plan with the federal government. Oh and sorry, Great tutorial!!! very well done. I can't wait to get a drone :(
"Ultimate tutorial" *Doesn't explain what the arrows do in the camera mode because you personally don't use it* *Says the options should be left alone and doesn't explain what they do*
Hello I am sorry I missed out on some of the info. The arrows in the camera view tilt the camera, similarly to the DJI GO app, the camera tilt setting is useful when mapping sides of tall buildings and the overlap can be adjusted if you are getting gaps in your mesh. Hopefully this answers some of your questions.
Thank you for making such an easy to understand and straight to the point video.
right? if it was another incompetent youtuber this video would ve been 20 mins long filled with garbage info lmao
Nice Tutorial!! Well done ;)
+Pix4D Thanks!
How precise is the height map?
Simply explained. Thanks for the effort, man!
I love your video and explanation it was no BS straight to the point thanks
im pretty sure the "camera mode" is for real time monitoring of the images as the mission is underway ..
Thank you for this. How do you know which color represents which altitude. And is there a way to export the 3D mesh so that people without this software can view it. Thanks again
one of the best pix4d tutorial. Thanks!
Thanks for such precise tutorial.
Hi
In this project wich camera did you used?
Kind regard
Wahidi
Looks cool dude!!
so simple..yet so clear..Thumbs up..
Good and clear video!!! Do you use The paid version of the software?
+Bert Steenburgen Thanks! I used the trial software
May I know how you obtain the geolocation of the images, is it from exif files or you downloaded the flight logs?
Thanks! Kudos!

amazing explanation
Will the app works for any drone?
Nice. but May i ask you one question? i want to upload by using Arcmap. do u know which tool to use ?
Thanks before hand
I have never used Arcmap myself but I know you can export your mesh as a .ply or .laz or .las or .xyz file if that helps you.
how to export?
Here you go: ruclips.net/video/Fihmlhj1pKQ/видео.html
may i ask you one more? i want to create 3d building, how should i do with drone? and i used to do but the building is not good.
I have never tried making a 3D model of only a building but I would recommend that you manually fly your drone around the building while taking pictures and then import them into Pix4D.
So what was the point? To generate a 3D model, a georeferenced orthophoto set, contours, a printable 3D model or what?
mate this is insane
like I am so impressed!
Nice tutorial! What screenrecorder are you using, such good image :)
Nvidia shadowplay at 1080p
Hi, do you have a crack for pix4D Mapper. i don't have money enough for this software. Thanks !
How good is the Z quality on the pointcloud?
Was this on the Phantom 3 Standard? Can I still rely on the "Return to home" Feature if the drone loses connection with the transmitter?
No, a phantom 3 Professional was used. In my experience RTH worked fine but still, I would not recommend flying that far if you can avoid it.
Thanks for the timely response. I have one other issue, I flew it today and the drone flew the mission perfectly except for that it didn't take any images. Flew the path great though. any idea on how to correct this?
I have never had such an issue myself, perhaps it is losing connection to the transmitter?
Can you please help why my minutes show as 24173 minutes for a 39x70 m space and altitude 50 m. I am using a mavic 2 pro.
Thank you
Can the drone be used dji mini 3 Pro?
Thanks very helpful ❤️
Great video, thanks! :)
wow had no idea drone software was so advanced nowdays
Oooh..
Look up LSD-SLAM :D

Will this work with mavic air 2?
Have you tried or can do a shoot with Mavic Pro? To see how results looks like? Thanks.
I personally have not tried however I would also be interested in the results!
Others drone such as bayangtoys x21 it is available or must be dji phantom?
You would have to check the Pix4D website for that although in the past, I believe it was only for the DJI phantom models.
does this work on any phantom drone
Is there a way to simulate the sun to see whrere the shadows will be on the roofs of the houses?
Does this process work with the phantom 3 standard?
Yes
great video!!
Although we use drones ourselves, I'm always wondering if it wouldn't have been a lot easier to hire a manned aircraft for a day. What your thoughts?
does the Phantom automatically take the pictures?
Yes, The Pix4D application takes them
Thanks!

Hello, What model of drone phantom is?
It’s the Phantom 3 pro
Why do I have only free flight mossions? Spark
Very Good! I am Brasileiro, I want to do here in Brazil!
can you tell me how accurate it is if i need to measure some points in the 3D mapping?
I am not entirely sure as to how precise it is but in my testing it was +-50cm. This will of course also depend on what height you took the pictures at
Raef Z depends also how much GCP do will take from the area, for increase accuracy .
If you are using ebee plus, you don't required GCP too, we can get 5 cm accuracy without GCP.

I meant do you know of a place that I can upload mine to so people can view?
Sorry for the misunderstanding, I am not aware of such a place but I recommend that you contact Pix4D directly, they might know
maybe try sketchfab.
does it upload to airdata?
Hi! this program can be installed on Xiro Xplorer v drone?
no, this app only works with DJI phantoms, as far as i know.

so the app also works on a Phantom 2 vision+?

Do l need cellular service on my ipad, or will this work with cached maps?

como puedo exportar un 3D mapping a google earth?
Execellent
how a person who does not have the app will see the pictures?
Does it work with phantom 3se ?
Também gostaria de Saber... é o mesmo modelo do meu.
how much does this cost?
..too much for hobby users :(
thanks gan
nice tutorial
Hi Please can I use your footage
Hello, please email support@workshopscience.com with your intentions and we will figure something out
very nice
I am interested in making a review video
does it work with bebop 2?
I do not know, you will have to check with Pix4D about that
I’m using DatuFly
how can mapping be useful, can someone enlighten me
thank you !!!
+Marc FAUVE Happy to help :)
can run Pix4d in window 7?
Yes we can run this, we are using nearly 4 years

It's the ultimate video to get a person started.
