Thanks for including my Forest of Enchantment Tarot! Cardstock is so subjective. I can't riffle shuffle to save my life, so it doesn't matter much to me, but I know some people are passionate about it. All I ask as a deck creator is that people work with a deck before condemning the cardstock. I've seen some reviews of decks right out of the box that say "I can tell this deck won't hold up very well." The fact is, thinner stock doesn't necessarily mean it's flimsy or cheap -- try it for a while before passing judgment.
I agree cardstock is subjective, for me it's all about if I can shuffle it. I like thinner cardstock because it means I can riffle. I'm pretty hard on my decks and my thinner decks still hold up to the abuse I throw at them lol. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
i totally agree with you! thinner csrdstock is a preference for me, it makes the whole experience so much better. i have decks with such thick cwrdstock that my hands hurt when riffle shuffling 😂 i love your decks cardetock - its just perfect, in my opinion. flexibilbe, easy to work with ❤️
We work with Tarot so similarly - and my shuffling time is my focus time too. I also find that shuffling and cardstock are both part of the sensory experience of working with decks. I really do want to do a VR on this subject at some point!! Such a great tag.
It really is, I love that Casper opened it up not to just what kind of cardstock we like but why it matters to us. I think it's an important part of the discussion that open gets overlooked. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
Dawn Michelle, thank you so much for doing a VR. You're completely spot on -- I don't want to think about shuffling when I'm doing a reading. Bad cardstock tends to have plenty of jumpers; I want a deck that I can reliably shuffle so I know jumpers ARE a sign. I also meant to talk about that at the beginning of my video (because it's arguably the most important) but LOL I only realized I forgot midway through and I really didn't wanna redo my video. I appreciate that you got to that point in the video. I didn't expect some of these decks here!!
I just love listening to shuffling, it just makes my heart happy! I didn't think about that with jumpers, that's a really good point. I think too often creators get caught up in cardstock feel and forget that we need to be able to actually use these decks! Thank you so much for this tag, I think it's actually a really important conversation to have and you gave us an opportunity to do that, and in a fun way!! 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
You shuffle like I do! I riffle shuffle/bridge and then like to end with some overhand (even though I'm not great at it) 🤣. The swooshy sounds is so great. Llewellyn for the win! 👌🏼
Throughout this video, I was wondering how you get along with the Textured Tarot. A gem of a deck but truly, a brick 🧱 and IMPOSSIBLE to riffle shuffle !!!!!
I love the artwork of the Textures Tarot, but yeah it's pretty useless as a working deck. I still pull it out from time to time, but I don't use it near as much as I would if it has some useable cardstock. Such a shame as it's a stunning deck. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
I adore riffle shuffling, but nowadays I seem to have broken the habit and have started to hand-over-hand shuffle most of my decks - especially since many are just too large for my hands. Nothing beats a good riffle though!
Dawn-Michelle, thanks for the thorough review. ♥️ I *do not* riffle shuffle, and can always tell those that do, from the bow/ bend in the cards. Unless they are conscientious about flattening the curve by reverse action some of the time. (As you and Casper do!) Anyway... I'll have to think about my favs... I *do* enjoy the sexy feel of rose petal finishes. ♥️ #staywell everyone.
I have to divide the Trueblack Tarot because it is a thick deck but I love it, the deck has become a very spiritual deck for me and straight to the point. My go to deck is 5 cent Tarot which is so easy to riffle shuffle my go to deck these days
Shuffling is how I judge cardstock too! My hands aren't big enough to even get around a Llewellyn deck comfortably so I corner shuffle everything. This helps on some larger decks that others have trouble shuffling. But if I can't even corner shuffle a deck, then I get cranky lol
Such a helpful and fun video! 💚 Between your modifications and journaling I feel like you know exactly what cardstock and decks are right for you, definitely an important aspect of the tarot reading experience 😄💙✨
I think part of it is that all my first decks were mass market with standard cardstock. Shuffling and usability never crossed my mind back then because I didn't have access to anything that wasn't just standard cardstock meant to be shuffled. Now that I've experienced so many more types, I've realized how much of an important part of my process it is. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
There is just something so satisfying about a good riffle shuffle. Yeah, kinda wish the Moonchild had a bit thinner cardstock, it's a bit of a beast. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
I love the rose petal thick card stock!! I am a hand over hand with an occasional riffle. No bridging here I might take out someone's eye because I cant master it. Thanks for sharing with us
Yes!! I seem to have the same taste in card stock as you, and for the same reasons. The only difference is that my hands are larger (I have long, piano-player fingers, lol), so I can handle the Victorian Romantic or even some slightly larger decks no problem. And I just love the sound of a good riffle, ahhhhh. 😊
I feel like I am generally just bad at shuffling, so I can't blame the cards. But consequently the cards I enjoy working with the most seem to have thicker card stock and are therefore more difficult to shuffle. Card stock doesn't stop me from working with a deck though and I agree, I also love Llewellyn card stock!
It doesn't stop me either, especially if I really love a deck... But there is just something magical about being able to riffle shuffle a deck. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
I like Lewellyn cardstock too! They shuffle so beautifully. There are so many indie decks I'd love to have, but I just don't use decks that I can't easily riffle shuffle so I just say no. But it definitely causes some FOMO to combat and hold strong on that.
I know exactly what you mean, I've passed on several indie decks because they were so thick. I make an exception for a few because I love them, but Llewellyn really is one of my favorites overall. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
I just shuffle wide sides for decks that are huge or to stiff 😅 i have to come with r some tricks to shuffle because I do not trim my decks. the only one that actually hurts shuffling is the wild unknown archetypes ⭕ ugh is love-hate kind of relationship. Thanks for sharing your personal experience with decks👍🏽
All I want in life is for my decks to be manageable in size and have pro playing cards stock (bendy with a core), that’s all lol I’m definitely more forgiving with personal decks, but for working decks you gotta be able to shuffle! Faves: Baba Studios stock, Pagan Otherworlds (despite the size), SKT, US Games standard, and yes, Lewellyn. Least faves: Connected and Free Oracle, Modern Witch, and A Yogic Path. I can even deal with the size on Work Your Light and Starseed because the stock is nice and I can shuffle them sideways (Ethony style), but the Yogic Path is just “why?!” 😂
I do love the Pagan Otherworlds deck too and almost put it in here but the size on that one makes it a bit hard for me to shuffle. Great cardstock tho! 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
Not only do I riffle shuffle, I'm finally trying to learn how to bridge. The sound of some cards when overhand shuffled is really great, but is rarely as satisfying for me as a good riffle.
Love your videos! Love nice cardstock. Makes or breaks any tarot deck for me. It's a shame that quite a few tarot decks don't do the art justice. I find a lot of mass marketed decks, like most of Lo Scarabeo, need to up their production quality. AGM are among my favorite cardstock and quality for mass produced decks. Indie decks take the reign. Baba Studios card stock is sumptuous and I like a lot of U.S. Games. I love glossy for certain decks, but a nice satin finish feels luxurious lol. I can handle my decks all day long; the sound they make, the feel, the smell....lol.
What do you think of linen finish? Like the one in the Carnival at the End of the World (I know you have that one bc the edging you did is etched in my mind, so so beautiful). It's one of my favs 💕
I do really like linen cardstock too, just most of them that I have on linen are larger cards. I do really like the Carnival and the Pagan Otherworlds cardstock too. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
I agree with The Naked Heart Tarot...perfect cardstock!!!! I felt TWU mass market was a bit sticky and needed breaking in. I’m not a snob...I can handle anything that isn’t paper thin.
It's actually on my list to trim too, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. That white border on the back is going!! I was thinking about doing that one as mod with me sometime this fall. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️

@@DawnMichelleTarot Like most US Games decks its a bit stiff but for some reason it shuffles like a dream. I have the borderless edition. I'm prob gonna make a VR in a few days, if I do I'll include it so you can see :D
I am so envious of people who can riffle shuffle and bridge their cards. As soon as I try this my deck goes flying across the room. Does not look very cool when doing a reading so I just stick to good old fashion hand-over-hand shuffle.

Really? Because it's long and narrow I've found it's one of my best shufflers for riffle shuffling!
Yeah I've had cardstock ruin a deck for me before too. I don't have the DM, what's the cardstock like? 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
@@DawnMichelleTarot Like most US Games decks its a bit stiff but for some reason it shuffles like a dream. I have the borderless edition. I'm prob gonna make a VR in a few days, if I do I'll include it so you can see :D
Awesome, that will be fun!
I am so envious of people who can riffle shuffle and bridge their cards. As soon as I try this my deck goes flying across the room. Does not look very cool when doing a reading so I just stick to good old fashion hand-over-hand shuffle.
It takes some practice for sure. I learned when I was a kid, we were big card game players in my house growing up. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️
It takes practice. Start with a old beaten up small poker deck and go from there. Again, not all tarot decks can or do shuffle properly!
Thank you, I will try that.💕
