Dragon Ball Dissection: The Ultimate Decisive Battle for Earth

- Dragon Ball Dissection December continues with the third Dragon Ball Z movie, which proves that trees are more deadly to forests than forest fires, and that you can be a character in this series for years and still get upstaged by a cute pet dragon.

Here’s a funny fun fact. In FUNimation’s in house redub of this movie from 2006, they changed the line about the effect of the artificial moon that Tullece destroys lasting longer on Gohan. In the dub, Tullece doesn’t destroy the artificial moon, but rather creates a semiopaque cloud around it after he forces Gohan to transform so he won’t follow suit, so they at least addressed the discrepancy of Gohan seemingly staying transformed without the moon being there.
With as lazily produced and generic as that dub of the film was, the fact that FUNimation addressed that bit of Saiyan transformation lore better than Toei did says something, especially when you consider that the line wasn’t even in their original dub of the film that aired as three episodes. For every thousand issues with the FUNimation dub in its earlier days, there was at least one win.
" Poor Dolt "
Man how I've missed hearing you say that again
Turles was Goku Black before it was cool
When did it ever get cool?
Goku Black is just some idiot in Goku's body, just like Ginyu was. So Ginyu was Goku black before it was cool.
@@spambamkeija634 Since when Goku Black its cool?

Smh
Turles is definitely underrated.
The thing that I really dislike about this movie is it really drives home this point: You ain't Saiyan, you ain't shit. This movie has all of the core Dragon Team members, however, they do nothing but get their asses kicked while Goku takes on all the bad guys by himself and kicks their asses. That is literally how the canon series will play out as Saiyans will dominate the story. So, why keep the Earthling Dragon Team members around to do nothing but be furniture in the background? You can't even say Dragon Ball has an ensemble cast because that would imply all the characters make themselves useful.
Yeah you can even back then they rather focus more on Saiyans first and have the Earthlings take a back seat.
And not even all the saiyans are useful, just goku and vegeta
I can see Yamcha and even Kuririn losing with the opponents they had, but Tenshinhan couldn’t beat those two little nutsacks with HELP? Hell, Piccolo couldn’t have gotten more to do? Maybe he and Ten could’ve teamed up on Tullece while Goku dealt with the mooks. Barring the two nutsacks, because they look and sound like losers, and they at least should’ve been defeated.
Here’s my vision of the fight. Most ends except Tenshinhan’s go pretty much the same way it was said to in the original TV edit of the film’s Ocean dub, when it was split into three episodes and added to FUNi’s original run of the series. Tenshinhan and Chaozu go up against Raisin and Lakasei, and just like in the film, Chaozu leads Raisin away and gets beaten, leaving Tenshinhan to defeat Lakasei.
Meanwhile, Kuririn goes up against Amond, gives him a good fight, but ultimately fails and is beaten as well.
Yamcha easily loses against Cacao after his Sokidan has no effect, and he is saved by Goku, who has to go up against Daizu and Cacao at once, and finds a match in the both of them combined and enjoys the fight as per his character flaw from the Saiyan arc, omitting Kaio-Ken for this reason.
Everything in the movie goes similarly, except Goku doesn’t completely erase Cacao and Daizu with a single blast before going up against Oozaru Gohan. Rather, due to Raisin and Lakasei both being defeated (Raisin would’ve been completely defeated by Gohan in my version), Goku would have to go up against Amond, Daizu, and Cacao all at once after Amond dumps Kuririn in front of him, and he tries to keep from losing it and making an irrational decision due to his newfound hate for Tullece-which stems from hurting Gohan-by fighting them with pure martial arts. However, he struggles and is almost defeated, and he eventually just drops the gloves and uses Kaio-Ken, gradually beating them instead of easily.
Meanwhile, Tenshinhan and Piccolo are teaming up on Tullece, and they nearly beat him with the various assassination techniques they both possess, which injure and weaken Tullece and put him on a level that requires him to eat a fruit to surpass Goku later.
Tullece is still fast enough to blitz Ten and knock him out, and Piccolo is caught off his guard by this, vulnerable to a furious kiai from Tullece that blasts him into the upper atmosphere.
Piccolo tries to join in against Goku and Tullece’s fight after Tullece eats a fruit, but without Kaio-Ken or the Genki-Dama, he’s basically fodder by now.
There. A revised plot format that’s based on a clear dichotomy of power and who can endure longer than the others. The only way I can accept those two little fuck nuggets being stronger than Tenshinhan of all people is if they ate fruit, which they did not.
I hate Piccolo was used here, dude didn't even touched anyone.
As bad as some of these movies are seeing the z fighters interact and just be friends is always nice seeing how we don’t get that in the show enough
So it's Hire, not Higher. I learned stuff.
Man, say what you will about the dub (and there is a lot to say) but at least the title they gave the movies could let you know what each movie was if you didn't have every movie memorized.
Gun to my head I don't think I could remember which movie this was going by the japanese title
I never noticed Tullece had the same eye design as Gokuu (and Gohan, Kuririn, etc.) behind that scouter of his. I just assumed it was closed like Bardock and most other characters in DB. So that's neat. :)
Maybe tree of might is on a different timeline where piccolo didn't die, and they ressurected Yamcha, tenshinhan, and chaozu after a year, so Yamcha trained with Kaio for a year. I know that's a huge stretch, but that's my bs explanation. And yes, masako nozawa is hands down the best goku and kills it.
hrhnicholasable i agree. the movies seem to operate on a alternate universe premise if you want to make sense of it(i know they didnt put that much thought on it but still)
a good example is movie 5 opening with roshi stating that goku defeated frieza and returned to earth but considering theres no three year mention or that ssj form isnt usable until goku is beaten down to death it seems to have some differences happening than the db frieza events had happen
One issue though: King Piccolo had already killed Chiaotzu just before regaining his youth, and Shenron can only grant a wish once, so Chiaotzu couldn't be revived
@@Den-pw3jtToriyama himself seems to see the movies as seperate dimensions
"I take the movies as “stories in a different dimension from the main story of the comic”. I’m entirely just an audience member for them."
One thing I especially like is how you tell us exactly what was going on in the manga and the TV series at the times the movies were being released. I never knew the movies made the themes that the series would eventually adopt. I always thought it was the other way around, though knowing that now, it makes sense. I mostly remember a few themes in the Boujack movie that made me think 'this makes no sense, this music didn't show up til the Buu arc, whaaaat?'
Phenomenal video! I absolutely agree with you with the slice of life type of stuff being the strong point with these movies, that´s why I really like the first half of this movie.
Yamcha the wolf woah dude This is the third dragon ball z video I've seen you on.lol
Haha, I watch a lot of dragon ball related youtubers.
Love the bits of the Dragon Ball crew just being people. Honestly I think I've enjoyed most of the filler episodes of Super than the main ones for that very reason.

I was wondering if you were going to talk about Goku's boots and you did not disappoint me.
I'm not sure why Toei didn't make Turles Goku's cousin/twin brother (he would be way more popular if he was), it's not like they have a problem with doing stuff like this *cough* Cooler *cough*
You are extremely overlooked. You should seriously have way more subs, I love your content yo!
This is my favorite DBZ movie. I'm probably biased since I saw it when I was a kid back in the 90's, but the fights, the character design, and the setting really do it for me.
I can see your gripe for Turles creating the artificial moon to transform Gohan into the Great Ape and then destroying hes own artificial moon to not transform himself. I personally wasn't sure that destroying artificial moon was possible. I mean if Goku could just destroy the artificial moon then why he din't do that in his battle against Great Ape Vegeta?
Can definitely tell Lance would never ever want anything to do with a real life Blooma 😂
Why would anybody? She's a raging bitch until Super
You deserve all of the views! DBD is out-of-this-world class good!
Yay turles is my favorite movie villain.thx for working so hard on these dissections
It's so interesting watching what becomes the DBZ Movie formula start getting more and more obvious until they don't even bother justifying it anymore. Other characters getting beaten up by the minions which Goku effortlessly takes out, the plot bending over backwards to try and give Gohan something important to do whilst still having him needed to be saved by Piccolo, and an inexplicable ending where not even the characters understand what happened.
Personally, this movie is a bit of a slog for me. The characters fighting forest fires is probably the least interesting thing you could do, and while Tullece's concept sets him apart from other DBZ movie villains, they don't focus enough on it for it to really stand out because of it.
MozillaVulpix saint seiya movies have the same formula
9:52- King Kai: We used it to drain planets of evil people of its vital essence to fuel the ones with the good people; but then the Gods of Destruction found out about this and told us not to use it...because it made their jobs irrelevant and our Supreme superiors didn't like us indulging in destruction.
Goku: What's a Destroyer and a Supreme-
King Kai: Go kick your evil copy's ass!
Goku: I feel like I'm going to do this again in 3 decades from now...against another me in black, but he's a green meanie fallen angel that has pink hair, and is defeated by a blue baby.
King Kai: That sounds very far fetched.
Honestly that sounds VERY Dragon Ball
I wouldn't be surprised if they retconned it in Xenoverse to be something Beerus had made so he can be even lazier and get to eat
I really wonder what you're going to say about movie 4 "Suupaa Saiya-jin Son Gokuu." It was release on March 9, 1991, after Goku launched his 20x Kaio-ken in the manga and when Piccolo showed up to fight Freeza in the anime. That's important because Goku is supposed to turn into a Super Saiyan in this movie, but the makers of the movie didn't know what a super saiyan looked like yet.
Also it's important to note that the villains of the movie are called "mazoku" like Piccolo Daimao and Garlic Junior and their related characters. In fact, One of Slug's henchmen, "Dorodabo" says (to Piccolo, just before Piccolo finishes him off) "Wait, you're a mazoku too..." which you could use to reinforce a point you made before that just because Piccolo has been retconned into an alien doesn't mean he was never a demon. Also, Funimation's dub pronounces "Gyoshu" as "guy-oh-shu" instead of "g'yo-shu."
I'm surprised you didn't mention that Goku never bothered to eat the fruit from the tree. Every time I watch the movie it's like an elephant in the room. Not saying he should have but I'm surprised you didn't comment on it.
You know... I honestly don't know if I ever thought about it before!
@@MistareFusion 😮 well I'm glad I mentioned it
Turles didn't want to turn into a giant ape because he knew he couldn't control his actions if he did. Just like Goku.
He knew if Gohan got out of line he could manage to cut Gohan's tail off and bring him back to normal.
That's not so much his point. How the hell does Gohan remain transformed when the moon was destroyed? It makes no sense.
@@spartanq7781 that part didn't bother me either. Just looked like he blasted clouds around it or something so that it wouldn't make him transform. But whoever looked at it and got affected would stay in that state until the ball was completely destroyed.
Yamcha is a poor dolt thats why I pair him with Launch she needs some love too.
If there was one movie concept I would make canon, it would be the Tree of Might. I could see Beerus using it to both destroy a planet and have something to eat later.
Another great video Lance! While this movie isn't my top favorite (it's up there though), Tullace is actually my favorite villain in the entire series. I just like the fact that he's suppose to be a what-if version of Goku who never hit his head. I do enjoy seeing both of them argue with each other using their different philosophical viewpoints that each of them have cultivated from their life experiences and both believe what they are doing is right and natural.
Man, I just love your content! I've been watching your stuff since Red Ribbon and I can't express how much joy your vids give me. You're the only person who's videos show up in my subscriber feed that I instantly click on. I love you man. Keep being you and MERRY Christmas!
It's funny how most renditions of Tullece's theme weren't officially released, and the one variant that was is in the cue that went unused in the movie (during the action scene with Goku taking on his henchmen while Piccolo tries to take him down).
And Dragon Ball Dissection December continues with the Decisive Battle for the Entire Earth. And we're so close to Christmas. This makes me want to watch Team Four Star's Christmas Tree of Might
It seems you missed the aspect of Tullece's hair that he basically has two 'horns' from how two of the spikes curve in one direction.
Nice! Looking forward to more like these. I think Tullece seeing an unassertive Gohan looking at him and saying, "father", motivated him to want to transform him into an ape. He was already in touch with his true Saiyan nature and maybe, didn't feel he needed to transform in order to beat the Z fighters.
Great work as always!
I remember the first time I saw this one. It was the version that was somehow split into two (three? I can't remember) episodes that would air after the original Ocean run which stopped at Goku's fight with Jeice and Burter. It was confusing, some others and myself thought that somehow Cartoon Network skipped a bunch of episodes.
Then I went to the internet and learned. Learned oh so much. That Dragon Ball Z uncensored website you mentioned was a cornerstone in my introduction to the original Japanese Z, and even came across clips of late Freeza saga and Trunks episodes which piqued my interest all the more.
christmas came early!
Thanks for this review. Been waiting for it since you decided to do the films. You're right, after this one the films really start to tread water overall I think get worse.
Ooh, this one brings me back. First DBZ movie I ever saw in a theater.
0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0 the first one I ever saw in theater was resurrection F.i saw it opening night
Son gotenks pielovemorethananthony the first 3 movies released in theaters here in Brazil, I have a vivid memory of seeing that spider probe as a kid.
0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0 in theaters? Wut? U were in Japan at that time?
This was my first DB movie in theaters too! This movie and the first Broly movie where released in theaters in Mexico. :)
Oh yeah! The spider probe! I always though of the spider robot from Jonny Quest every time I saw it. :P
Ramble the fist three movies released in theaters in Brazil.
Solid video here, definitely agreed on the Planet Crushers and wider cast inclusion, wish they'd all be utilized more! Also neat point on Turles design!
Also completely agreed on preferring Goku's original view of himself as an earthling over "I'm Sayian so fighting is all I care about!"
@@vazak11 God I hate what Goku turns into once his heritage overshadows his character.
Wow I can’t believe this movie came out exactly 17 years before my little brother was born! I can’t wait to tell him this. That will make him so happy.
Fantastic video as always! It would be nice to see how you rank all of these movies as well, would you consider doing that?
Hmm. I dunno. I fear there'd be too much of a pile-up of "meh" that would be hard for me to separate. If I ever manage to come up with a discrete list, then maybe I will.
Yeah I understand. Keep up the fantastic quality!
My first DB movie was Deadzone, but I have fond memories of this flick as well. I love the concept behind the Tree of Might, a giant parasitic plant that feeds off a world's life force & produces fruit that can raise the power levels of whoever eats them...That's a great threat for our heroes and an excellent motivation for power hungry villains! Unfortunately, I agree that despite how cool the Crusher Corps look they aren't as interesting as their character bios describe them, & I wish Piccolo & the others had been allowed to beat Turles' minions while Goku handled Turles himself. Also, dunno how the rest of the fandom views him, but I like Icarus, always been a fan of dragons & as a kid I envied Gohan for having one for a pet lol.
BTW Mistare Fusion, what do you think of Turles' mysterious identical appearance to Goku? I know it would have been redundant, but I feel like Turles' resemblance to Goku would have made more sense if they had been related by blood somehow instead of the flimsy "low class saiyans look alike" excuse they gave. He's still an effective villain & I love the Tree of Might concept, I just wish his resemblance to Goku had a better explanation, like he's a clone or Bardok's brother/Goku's uncle or something. While the evil brother thing had been done already, I still would have accepted that explanation as well since before Dragon Ball Minus came along it was generally accepted that saiyans didn't settle down & raise families, they mated only to produce kids & then launched them into space to conquer other planets, so Turles could easily have been another son of Bardok under those circumstances.
I marathoned your entire Db dissection series, great stuff! But I believe from now on your reception for the next movies to come will be alot more negative.
I worry that you might be spoiling us on your beefs with the Cell Saga and beyond.
Though concerning that moment, I'd say that they would've held off on the Dragon Ball anyways if only to keep Vegeta from killing others out of protest. At that point in the series, he was chilling out on Earth but lord knows that they didn't want to piss him off.
Well, Tules did said he was also a low class saiyan, and those can't control their saiyan form, so it makes sense for me why he wouldn't want to use the Oozaru form. But the moon thing, yeah, is a problem in the movie.
Funny thing you mention the eyes. For a moment after Gohan stops being a giant ape, Turles makes an expression similar to Black's. It was a cool moment.
I have to say, I couldn't find the original audio movie on the net, so I had to watch the Latin American Dub. Mario Castañeda role as Turles is ok. I like what the english version did to Turles , making his voice more Smug and Snake sounding.
My favorite Dragon Ball movies in no particular order:
Dead Zone
Tree of Might
Curse of the Blood Rubies
I haven't seen any of the others so I don't have opinions on them, hahaha.
🎵 Can you take me hire dragon 🎵
nice vid man!
Lance, you ever gonna look at the DB specials, like Bardock father of goku (even though you've already talked about it with Blackenfist) or Yo Son Goku and his Friends Return?
I saw this film with the big green dub when I was a kid
That explains your poor grammar.
Feeso your sentence was fine... good job
Let that child alone
+Feeso
You saw The Big Green Dub as a kid? How are you still alive? Because from what I've seen of clips from that dub, I don't see how anyone could watch it without dying from laughter.
DemonicRemption They did air on Toonami UK in 2005.
So you pretty much had no choice but to stick to that dub if you wanted to watch the movies at the time.
13:14 I've just rewatched the film after years, and I think it's simply that Gohan absorbs the bruitz waves as Baby, or later Vegeta, does in GT. And therefore, "It will last a little longer".
Jeez dude, you've been post these pretty fast lately, not that I'm complaining, just hope you taking time with these.
He does this every year for December. It's planned.
I thought so, otherwise this video would've felt rushed.
This movie is better as a Christmas special.
Again, another case where it seems the filmmakers were operating with a "They'll all get back home from Namek without anything too wild happening"....basically, if Goku never went SS on Namek, and they all returned to Earth at the end of that arc without any significant time gaps....this movie would be right at home placed there.
Heck, even in a 'Goku turned SS but can only access it in the most extreme circumstances" type of scenario....you could picture this simply occurring on Earth some point after that arc, after Goku comes back. It was clearly TRYING to be forward thinking.
But of course...Toriyama has to throw in things like SS, and Goku staying away from Earth for like 2 years, and him mastering SS and being able to transform at will.
Honestly....it happens so many times with the movies. They are made to take place 'ambiguously after this current arc wraps up' and like clockwork, it is almost as if Toriyama intentionally(or unknowingly) throws in wrenches into his ongoing story that completely nullifies them...like he intentionally was trying to 'disprove' and 'ret-con' the potential existence of the films as he was telling his ongoing story.
The original goku black
Turles walked so Black/Zamazu could run
more like jogged imo
It could be right after Trunks chopped apart Freeza to Reese's Pie-...wait. I think Hire Dragon showed up in the Garlic Jr. Saga. Dammit.
Loved it
Goku was going to kill all the earthlings for repopulation. So earth would be a good choice for a tree being that it was already scouted out by Frezia s forces .
But Tullece even says in dialogue that the only reason earth is a good place for the tree is because Kakarrotto didn't complete his mission.
MistareFusion what do you think of Goku black
I haven't finished watching that storyline yet, so it's too soon to say.
Not sure if it's an audio problem, but you seem to sound a little down. : <
You alright, Lance?
Other than that, good dissection, as always. c:
Hey, Lance. I know you don't like the Funimation dub, but would you agree that the dub has better titles for the movies than the Japanese does?
At the very least they're much, much easier to remember.
Tree of Might and Lord Slug likey aslo take place in a universe where Namek goes well
great video as always!
This movie is really grim. They barely used that chorus in the main show afterwards.
The cooler movies were my first ,then broly, then turles
I wish they let the z fighter get a win at least in the movies
what are you talking about? this is clearly a Christmas movie :)
joking aside, this was my first DBZ movie and it was interesting to hear your take on it
WHY DO YOO PRONOAUZE SAYEN LIK THAT!? HAV U EVUR SEEN DRAGINBUL ZEE? ETS SAYEN! WATSH TEH ANIME!
Blocked!
No its the Saiya People so both of you are wrong.
Your all wrong its space warrior
No its the legendary warrior of space
It's saiyajin
What I don't get is why not just make movie versions of stories from the manga? Just make a big budget Raditz fight!
Hahaha, I just realized that your comment about every third Dragon Ball movie having a montage opening also applies to Super: Broly (if you consider BoG and RoF to be Super movies).
They're titled as "Dragon Ball Z" movies and not Super, obviously, since Super had not been created yet. I guess it's more proper to say "of the three modern DB movies." Soon to be four.
Yea, Icarus!
Knowing that the movies draw influence from what’s going on in the series, so it’s too bad that they couldn’t draw influence from Ginyu switching bodies with Goku.
They did in a way though.
Yes, yes, YES
I thought tree of might was kind of just meh, probably because of how it kept on being beaten into my brain via the clips from it that kept playing in "Rock the dragon" and I kind of just got tired of it. Best DBZ movie is probably battle of gods. I like the plot, and it was more plot heavy than fighting heavy, which people actually complained about, but I loved it. It was also a massive revival of the dragon ball fanbase, and it's place in media. It was hyped to hell, and everyone's prediction of what a super Saiyan God would look like was really fun to speculate.
This movie was the first bit of Dragonball I was exposed to, and I didn’t know what it was. I was just waiting for Power Rangers to come on.
(7:34) They're floating
mabe in this movie only yamcha had died in the sayian saga and trained with kaio.........And still didn´t learn the kaio-ken for some reason.
I love this movie but it does get unesesarily silent
Didn't think I would find this channel again after piece of shit mother fucking youtube unsubcribed me against my will. glad you are still doing this
In this timeline, this seem like a squeal to World Strongest. Due to the fact that Goku used Kaiokem x10 tell me it gotta be a good gap supported by the fact that Gohan hairstyle
Also, I forgot to mention that World Strongest seem to take place a few weeks to a month or two since Goku couldn't go sbiv Kaioken x4
if goku ignores being an alien then how come up he is the worthy one to use all those forms? I know it doesn't works like that but you would expect him to be have to except his true self to have the powers that comes from being a saiyan.
i guess turles could not control his oozaru form and thats why he destroyed the powerball moon
Then why does Gohan remain in that form? It is really forced in.
You are one of the few DB fans I know that actually likes the pink dragon.
I don't mind the slice of life stuff. But I hate that all the slice of life parts are completely dominated in all DBZ movies by the stupid dragon and later by the annoying antics of Trunks and Goten.
name of song at the start?
Turles would lose his sense. So he doesn't wanna transform
Well, I did address that in the video. Since he doesn't mind a senseless Gohan banging around his tree, there's really no reason why he should mind if he was the senseless one.
MistareFusion true you did I believe Turles just wanted like a wild lackey. I mean he did ask gohan to join him.
Why was Tullace able to handle a 10x stronger Gohan? That Ki blast shouldn’t have posed a threat, and it should’ve sapped him of his Ki, which actually could’ve tied into needing a piece of fruit.
Because gohan is hella weak in base on comparison with Tullece?
Well didn't Vegeta use the power ball in the exact same way where he transformed and stayed like that even though the ball was gone?
No, he didn't. The ball stayed around long after he was done with it. Gohan even used it later.
MistareFusion Oh true hmm
@@MistareFusionI've just rewatched the film after years, and I think it's just that Gohan absorbs the bruitz waves as Baby, or later Vegeta does in GT. And therefore, "It will last a little longer".
What you said about the bland title of this movie really justifies to me why Funimation changed the movie titles to something more relevant to the movie's plot. The next movie is something called "Super Saiyan Son Goku" which is incredibly vague. I really think the Broly movies should have had titles that acknowledged Broly.
Since you mentioned voice acting, I think it's a shame that the English dub didn't use Sean Schmmel as Turles (that's what Tullece is called in the dub). That being said, I don't think I need to tell you about how I feel about "Tullece" having the same voice that never grew up that Goku does. Imagine if Hulk Hogan had the voice of a 5-year-old. I think that you've just watched the series in Japanese for so long that you've gotten used to it. For me, it's just one of the things that's weird about Japan that I laugh at. This movie might have the greatest number of English dubs of anything Dragon Ball. First, there's the Ocean dub that edited this movie into three episodes of the regular series (this one used Shuki Levy's re-scoring, the only Z movie to do so). The second was the uncut pioneer re-dub, which used most of the same voice actors except the one for Goku, and used the original BGM. Then there's the Funimation in-house re-dub that used the more familiar voice actors that are used today; it used an alternate BGM composed by Nathan Johnson (but then when the remastered version was released, it had the "English with Japanese music" track). Then, outside the US, there's the infamous "Big Green Dub" which is notoriously bad. And finally, the Speedy dub, which sounds like what TV tropes calls "Asians Spekee Engrish;" the actors all have thick accents and it's hilarious how "Saiyan" is called "sigh-uh-peepo." They are also infamous for calling planets "stars;" this is because the Japanese language apparently doesn't differentiate between a big ball of gas and a smaller ball of rock orbiting the ball of gas (they use the word "hoshi" or "sei" for both). Since you don't talk about the English dub, that's why I do in the comments.
Then there's the music. Amazingly, Funimation kept "CHA-LA-HEAD-CHA-LA" in the opening on their "English with Japanese music" track (they still replace it with their own movie theme most of the time, even on that track). There was no music that really was special on this movie, in the original or re-scoring except the one that you called attention to (the one you used in the opening of this video). Funimation also kept the original Japanese opening credits in the remastered version (most of the remastered releases have English credits and titles ONLY). For the ending credits, they put the video in a corner of the screen and showed their credits in the black area.
Now one thing I've been wondering, why do you use the 4:3 DVD singles for the movies, when they were theatrically released in widescreen? is it just because you like to see Japanese text? I don't really see value in having credits and titles in a language I can't read.
Personally I enjoyed lord slug over tree of might.
I also have so much nostalgia for this film. It's the first film I ever remember seeing. I believe I saw the ocean dub when it aired on _Toonami._ I don't think I saw early Funi dub works.
The idea of a tree with fruit that gives you strength is one of my favourite premises ever. But it's NEVER used again in Dragon Ball, nor in any work of fiction I've ever watched lol. I like the Idea of the Tree. I also just love the aesthetic of a Giant magical/mystical tree. This is why _Lucario & the Mystery of Mew_ is one of my favourite pokemon films.
If I could have one premise brought to Dragon Ball 'canon' it would be the Tree of Might and Turles. I still stand that Turles is the definitive 'Evil Goku' archetype, and I thought/wish Goku Black was going to be that. I did not like what Goku Black ended up being.
What is the name of that intro music?
I've seen it referred to as "A Sign of Hope."
Ok thanks. Nice series by the way.
Is it just me or is Kid Gohan here among his buffest ever?
Look at the scenes where he is saving the Forest.
His arms are so big!
0:33
Icarus is probably my least favourite character of all time
I always thought it was confusing and weird how Tullece looked exactly like Goku, and the lame, half-assed explanation they try and give for it was just absolutely stupid.
#SubvertingExpectations
I hate the title lol. its the most generic thing ever. Wasn't Goku vs king Piccolo an ultimate decisive battle? Wasn't Goku vs Raditz? Wasn't Goku vs Vegeta? this film clearly takes place after those battles, but has nowhere near their gravitas. even Goku vs Wheelo was more dramatic and long.
>Pointing out the plothole of the energy ball by using Blutz waves which hadn't been invented yet and in fact was invented by GT
>"What kind of god would use this tree, I mean Beerus wasn't a thing yet"
..............dood
Bruits Waves were introduced in The Saiyan Arc, though.
....I don't remember that from any of the three dubs but I guess that's my fault.
