For sure, not only between comp and casual, but also for survivor and killer main, the vitriol i see from this community towards each one another rivals that of political adversity in America
he deserves it. an anti-social, insecure weirdo put on a pedestal by weird, anti-social teenage boys just like him. some of which are in this comment section
Only very young people seem to think 1v1s are a cringe concept. Imo its because people under 20 think everyone is/should be equal and are more likely to expect validation for free (like when they make unreasonable requests for balance changes despite being new to the game)
@@panthekirb7561 Why not? Is it not more competitive to make it a game of skill instead of luck? (I'm into competitive pokemon where there is a HUGE luck factor, but ultimately both players have access to the exact same tools so it's ok)
loved this video. stopped playing dbd completely with a friend because they got into comp and became literally unbearable when playing. calling everyone bots and shit at the game when... i was the same skill level as everyone else. it felt shit to constantly have my friend shit on me for wanting to just have fun. like, why are you playing with me if you hate that im sooo much worse than you? im here to have fun and play. idc.
Had this same experience with someone on a different game. Became super close friends, let him be a moderator to a discord I own.. soon as he joined the comp scene for that game, he became a gigantic asshole, and has been that way ever since. Kicked him out and never looked back.
Yeah I kinda thought it was overkill for a dude who was obviously just trolling. Even Otz said that he was just looking for a bite and got one. It is funny how they were trying harder against him then if they were in an actual match lmao
Ran into a comp 4man as my main Huntress. It's unbelievable how good these players are. Allowing you to get a free grab just so the PLANNED Dwight (behind a rock) blinds you.... Those 2+ man mindgames are not common so it's so easy to fall for. I normally have no problems destroying the opposition since they kill themselves. I would love to verse them again, had a bad game againts them and let them get to me... WHICH IS RARE AF!!!!! Would love to mori all 4 of those virgins who unexpectedly destroyed my Huntress.
that's just nitpicking tho, he says in general. there will always be moments where u will lose and be upset about it. but since knightlight is not the one who insults the opponent after losing every pub game. thats invalid point of saying oh you say this but you also do this! because u are nitpicking the exception.
@@brxve Brother, he got super upset when the Killer responded in the same manner. Why should I take him seriously if he can dish it out but never take it?
@@robotguy88 slinger game was obviously throwed by team so it wasnt proper match. he lost the match from the start having those teammates. idk whats your point, u play 1v3 bc someone throws ofc u gon be mad
Nobody will care about this, but here's a bit of my experience : 5k hours in the game. Went against "comp" players few times, either on survivor or killer. Most of them where annoying little pricks bagging at every opportunity and bringing the most OP stuff, or sweaty killers tunneling at 5 gens telling you "It's pubs bro nobody cares". Few months back, I went up against Team Eternal with a memey Dredge. Dan tried to take the chase first by bagging, and when he saw I ignored him, he instead decided to play normally and we had some fun. I didn't win because, well, shit perks against a comp team will do that, but I had fun and they told me I was good in egc. On the other hand, a few weeks back, I went against another BIG comp player (that I won't name for obvious reasons) as a surv. The guy was playing Billy, got cooked around 1 pallet because he was certain I would drop it and kept sawing on it, then once he finally got me, he was just sawing around the hook even though nobody was there. From that point, being bored, I decided to meme on him, doing pointy save, plot twisting in his face and everything. He ate a DS, then decided to hump me on the ground before killing me. When I saw who he was, I went to check if he was live, and he indeed was. And let me tell you, I've never seen somebody take the game as seriously as he was. Bro was MALDING over me pointing at him when he was picking up, he went insane when he ate a DS (even tho like... Just let me run around man, and you won't eat it), and he kept on shittalking me the whole match because I was just having fun. So, yeah, egos run wild in that community, and it's not just a "low-tier" comp player issue, as you've shown with KnightLight :)
@@ButtersDBD There's no need to say who it was. I was telling this to bring some light over the hypocrisy of some people in the comp scene, not to shit on anyone. I won't feed any drama over a stupid game, cause it doesn't matter.
gatekeeping a big comp player, although this video calls out (objectively) the biggest comp player trust me, you don't need to gatekeep anyone from the comp community, they're already used to people saying anything about them
7:49 🤯 Very good video. Actually reasonable, level-headed look at comp dbd. Normally discussion of it is very tiring, even as someone with no real stance on it, but this was both informative and interesting. Love the perspective you gave on this, it's definitely changed my mindset a bit.
KnightLight feeds his own ego on public matches by challenging players there to 1v1 him and when they refuse he trash talk them. he does that because my man get shit on by other comp dbd players like in few days back bro didn't make it past round one in a 1v1 tourney
My old man brain still refuses to take the idea of comp DBD seriously... but my old man heart can totally empathize with a group of people just wanting to play more of the game they love in a different way.
Do you believe in the idea of high-level players? That's essentially the comp community - people with 10k+ hours playing the game to near perfection (or throwing, trolling, etc).
problem is that they're not people who just wanna play the game differently. They're mostly people who lost their life in the game and have to brag about all the time in pubs. Basically losers
it BLEW MY MIND when i saw that momoseventh did not think he was "sweaty" because he was only sweating 95% and not 100% lmao, it is absolutely ridiculous...
Sorry that i was not more clear: i am referring to the statement he made in his yt video following this loss. That was not said in the heat of the moment after the loss but well later
@@leandro8936 I mean that's the ego though, you think you're unbeatable because you're literally the playing the best or one of the best sweaty killers in the game and you realistically should lose eventually lol.
Hens, in his second reaction video, wisely commented that he hopes Knight Light will reflect on his behaviour. KL clearly does not care. I have never watched his content before, but merely 10 min into a recent Twitch stream, KL caught himself making negative comments and laughed at how this game might end up on the next Killa Whale video. I am glad Killa Whale struck a nerve and is currently living rent free in KL's head, but I doubt this was enough to change his behaviour. Which is extremely unfortunate. I have always rooted for team Eternal, but that was before realising there is toxic behaviour lurking in the shadows. Lee Greasy, bless his hyper-active-golden-retriever heart, made a comment he will never participate in the comp scene again due to negative behaviour behind the scenes. He did not mention any names or elaborate, but clearly, there is an issue with some major comp players representing the comp scene. Sad.
As a person that was in comp dbd from 2019-2023 (last summer) this was really well done and put together overall. Many times you said something that I was so spot on. I did drop it due to how over the top comp going now. I like it when it was a fun small on the side thing that no one knew about. Think around 2020 (Hexy BOTB) I played in was the one tourn that change it all. From playing in Dead By ESports before it folded and a bit of DBDLeague when it was new. Just like how small focus it was back then. The more popular streamers in early DBD days were casual fun while now it's more competitive ones. it's not a bad thing it's just more are going to tell the viewers those strategies and it just gets more and more bigger to the point where public lobbies feel more like chaos scrims than anything else. (yes on the devs to fix stuff) Obviously MMR was more of a focus but comp definitely made the competitive optimal efficient gameplay more popular. DBD just not the fun party game as what got me into it in 2017. After hitting 15K hours, not sure how much longer I can keep going. But great edited video summing up all good amount of stuff about it and things people have to deal with.
Comp playstyle is the absolute worst. As a killer main, I don't agree with how the killer "win". Don't agree with camping/tunneling out the 1st player (you have to at this level of DBD) I find no fun in rushing as fast as possible to take 1 survivor out. It's BORING to watch. To a majority, the playstyle is LAME. So alot people don't watch it! The survivor playstyle is more fun but also lame. It's not a trial to meme, mess with the killer or enjoy having fun. You must gen rush and pray you don't go down 1st. Will be camped and tunnled out the game bc its a competition. I don't like anything about the idea but some people thrive for a competitive DBD. Hope it never happens!
@@SweetLeavesXbox1 Yes, DBD comp doesn't really exist and shouldn't. It's ugly, boring, annoying and toxic. These "comp" players are delusional addicted people that often don't even enjoy the actual game and its gimmick and silly feature and basically only want to win and get upset/bothered if they don't, and they don't realize they aren't enjoying THE GAME anymore, they mainly only enjoy winning and are sticking to DBD because it's their comfort and it's hard to leave something after so many hours, but still, delusional and wrong. I agree with your statement.
@@skiry_7207Agreed, I had no idea they were scummy in pubs to bleed people out and during event no less. I love the events, gives me more reason to chill with survivors. Being in snowmen to high five them and throwing snowballs. Sure I love winning. But what I adore the most is when im playing to kill the survivors, a rando does something completely cute that charms me into letting em go
Fantastic video! As someone who got into the comp scene over the last year, all of the “lore” you have to learn about other comp players and teams is extremely overwhelming 😭 the amount of drama is insane
Throwing my two cents in here: Comp DbD is pub IDV matches. I wish I was joking. The only difference between IDV and DbD for competitive reasoning is DbD has randomness in the maps, while IDV has extremely limited randomness, down to just player and "Cipher" spawning locations. Their casual scene, tunnel city. Throw pallets early to slow down the Hunter, ECT. But, that game has a well defined win condition. How many survivors escape? 3+, survivors win. 2 is draw, less is loss. Sure it means the ruleset is the same as comp DbD, but the defined win condition and IDV making it core to gameplay means if you're the one tunneled out, it's not nearly as bad, you get rewarded for it
I think Identity V's competitive scene works really well. That game started as a DBD knockoff but the way the survivors work, a killer usually HAS to camp and tunnel if they even want a chance of winning in a competitive environment, and survivors have so many more tools to deal with those strategies due to the different survivors having different skills and stats similar to killers. It also uses a talent tree system instead of the perk and addon system DBD has, as well as not being able to choose items to bring in. Instead that is determined by the survivor you select. That allows for much greater variety in what the survivor side can do. If anyone thinks good survivors in DBD are scary, imagine survivors that can literally send you flying into walls to stun you like Wesker can do, or that can yoink other survivors from your hands at a distance. It also helps that IDV has an actual ranked mode you can play at certain times of day. I really wish DBD had something like that, but it would require a lot of reworking of the current system to really allow for. They've kind of put themselves into a corner as far as competitive games go, since the way DBD works is just antithetical to a competitive environment. I think they COULD make it better, but I don't think they will. It's taken them this long to come up with a 2v8 mode, something that's been in IDV for years. I really enjoy DBD, so I really hope it gets better.
I wouldn't call IDV as a knockoff, because it's both NetEase and BHVR working on it before they made another dev team for DBDM. But yeah, IDV is a lot better balance wise because you don't have so much combination of things you need to think about but rather every character is their own specific sets of skills.
@@RenShinomiya121 Did BHVR actually work on it? My understanding was that they just gave NetEase their approval on it. I know they both worked together on the DBD mobile version, since BHVR couldn’t manage it on their own
@@GuyN0ir they actually worked on the initial game design and concepts before giving full control to NetEase's devteam, since they're also working on another game at that moment (Deathgarden)
I got into IDV because a friend wanted to play with someone to make casuals bearable (bad games with someone to laugh about your embarrassing death with is far more fun) and from just playing both casually IDV just had that feeling of "I see how this would better lend itself to competitive play".
Very well put together video, as someone who's involved in the competitive dbd side of things, its nice to gain perspective of people who are looking in from the outside. I do believe some players can drive newcomers away, but overall the experience is really great and I wish more people would give it a chance. I hope to bring a more accepting and upbeat environment with my involvement, I can only try to inspire others to do the same ☺
i dont have any issues with comp dbd, i think its cool when people love a game and are into it and make their thing. its just silly to me when people act like its *actually* something you should take seriously on a competitive level when the game is so binary in a lot of ways and has so much intrinsic rng and you need a million artifical rules to even approach a playable state. i dont belittle anyone for doing this, its fun and you should use your time however you enjoy but also when people go like RESPECT MY COMP ACHIEVEMENTS its like lmao... I think the latter is partially cause dbd isnt as mechanically skill intensive as like a shooter or a moba and so a lot of general shitters can be good at dbd. there's really good "gamers" in the comp scene still like Knightlight for example but a lot are also giga bad at a lot of pvp games and I think being good at dbd goes to their head.
Honestly BHVR themselves might have introduced this problem when introducing mmr. Turned the game from a fun party game to this teenager with an identity crisis
I feel like a most of the issues addressed are less about Comp itself but moreso about the community as a whole. The community already suffers a lot with an "Us VS Them" mentality and I think it extends to looking at Comp itself, "youre either Pubs player or Comp player" is insanely close to the "youre either a Survivor main or Killer main" we see a lot going around, it's just ever so slightly different to create the illusion that it is its own thing.
13:00 I've gone against KL a few times as survivor, when I check his stream its always the same, he's complaining about how me or my team mates should be doing XYZ and "why is he doing that bro bro bro bro bro bro bro do the yen bro bro bro bro bro " when me and the homies are literally having a good time, talking about life stuff, vacation plans, not talking about the game at all. The "we dont ego over pubs" is a total lie and honestly quite pathetic if he truly believes that, they all have massive egos, obviously, as that is the driving factor that led them to join comp in the first place, it comes from the simple feeling of "im too good to play pubs now". His whole section in your video is the perfect example of why comp DBD is clowned on, because for 99% of the playerbase, they come across as egotistical teenagers, and nobody likes either of those but themselves. However, I do know some really cool peeps in comp DBD that i play and have fun with doing 1v1s and such, its not all bad.
You have to keep in mind that he's a content creator, no one would watch his streams if he didn't say anything during the matches, or just talked off topic, people love engagement, stuff that they can joke about in the moment and laugh about, his remarks are never crossing the line and I think most of the time they are just funny, after all it's just a video game
This persons own experiences don't extend to all of us but i can say with confidence that this is something he does often with other players. One piece of evidence i hold onto was during the mft meta it was a constant spew of shit talking and personal insults from him during win streaks on trapper. If this is your content, that's fine. But, It's objectively not a great look for one of the best comp players to be speaking like that towards randoms on the internet, sets a really bad air of negativity for possible interested pub players or even new viewers
I dont even understand why you think they have 'better than pub player' mentaility just because they are in comp. They think they are simply better than pub player because they have UP TO 10K hours which is much more than avg joe like you. If you hate him being infatuated with your 'I am not taking this srsly so don't criticize me!' play so much, then just don't watch him? The fact that you took the time to write such a lengthy complain just prove his criticism hit you where it hurts(being bad)
dude killawhale i love the content you make on dbd. I haven't found any content at all that feels as relatable, unique, and as real as yours is in the dbd community.
lmao i can't imagine a full blown esport stadium for dead by daylight with 1 PC for the killer on one side and 4 PCs for the survivor on the other side and the spectators watching them looping over and over again, truly peak esport right there, fuck counter strike or any other competitive shooter, dbd is where it's at
I think it's a subjective argument though, because I'd much rather watch something like DBD, WoW Arena, Souls PvP, etc. than MOBAs or people corner camping on Dust2.
@@brad1426I mean I don’t even watch pro cs but cs takes a million times more skill in all aspects. People sitting in corners in cs… 60% of the dbd players in a match are holding left click most the game in dbd isnt very entertaining
Rather sit in a corner with a gun vs sitting by a hook and waiting for someone to save or not... Comp sucks in every aspect. Competition between all the mega virgins gen rushing and killers getting off to standing in 1 spot by a hook. I rather download Fortnight for the 1st time ever and play that crap. Anything than comp 💩
I really like how you opened with “I want to”. As an all encompassing reason to not make fun of people for harmless hobbies. I just hate seeing how many people genuinely look down on different sports or interests. It’s less that they make fun of it or think it’s strange, but more that they treat the popular things as some sort of natural law. Like basketball is woven into the laws of physics. Yea obviously competitive shoe tying is never going to be as skillful or physically demanding as football. But that doesn’t give you the green light to dehumanize someone. And I’m a super vanilla dude, I like the basic things. Whatever’s popular I’m usually into, but that doesn’t make me “superior” to others lmao.
huge part of this problem is that in other games, to be a "pro" player you have to get signed to a team owned by an organization and they have standards. to be a dbd pro, just say you're a pro.
you're the best, KW. well worth the wait I have kidded on the concept of comp DBD in the past because I'm a boomer but I can't argue with "they think it's fun"
The one time I VSd KnightLight in pubs we had a good laugh about it, but I am not surprised that he has an ego, he is very young and one of the best players, both are breeding grounds for having an ego the size of mars, but my experience with him has been positive, but it was also just one match.
I really respect Hens for how he’s been able to represent comp dbd in a positive light. Like he manages to take the game seriously enough to improve and learn, but still keeps this silly and whimsical attitude to the game’s failings that makes comp dbd stuff way more accessible and fun for newer or less experienced players. Of course that’s only from what I see on his RUclips, I don’t know him much outside of that, so maybe I’m wrong. But I at least appreciate the example he sets on his platform. Your videos are some of the best stuff in the dbd community. It feels like a natural supplement to otz and hens more statistic-based analysis of the game, where you offer a more philosophical analysis of behavior and social structure. I’m using much bigger words than I probably need to, but all that to say: I really admire your calm and understanding perspective on a highly polarized community. It’s so impressive how you can humanize people on both sides of a conflict, while still being funny and honest. It’s genuinely changed how I approach video games in general, and it’s led to so many more connections and friends rather than angry post-game lobbies. This is what I stick around for, even now when I don’t touch dbd.
Nice Video. The only thing I find a bit missleading us showing whispy camp as an example for comp beeing only camping ( which it isnt). Explaining that he had a 4 hook wincon and this is why he played this way would have gone a long way.
I don't think context matters there: the point of that section was that new viewers will often come to a comp stream and see camping, they don't care if there is a reason for it or not. I don't think comp is "only camping" at all, but I don't see how anyone could say there isn't still a lot of it, regardless of why it's happening.
The problem with comp anything is that it just brings out the worst type of people. You're not allowed to just play the game anymore, someone has to be in your ear criticizing you. And it's not a "one-sided" problem either. If you're good at the game you're a sweat. If you're bad then you're a shitter. People take things way too fucking seriously, it shouldn't be a crime to be good or bad. If you need to result to insults or intentionally putting other people down because of the of a video game, then you need to spend less time online. Also, what is that hitbox at 8:48 lmfao.
Great vid! I'm already someone who has a solid understanding of comp and its rulesets, and have considered dabbling in it since, while I mostly just play this game to goof off, there are some killers I find myself taking it more seriously on-- but even then I found myself learning a lot while watching! I mainly had no idea things got THIS dicey between comp and casual players, or that there was this much drama and ego in the community, since I don't bother with twitter, or really watch comp players regularly
Thanks for the video. I can see even more clearly now why the DBD esports scene stagnated for so long while the IDV esports scene grew more gradually, steadily and at a higher rate. I always wondered why that was the case and you highlighted issues I wasn't aware off because I don't use twitter nor do I watch comp players outside of tournaments.
Fixing the core problem of tunneling being the optimum way to play b/c of design: No more hook states, just a time pool that slowly ticks down and doesn’t replenish for each survivor (you could Hook the same guy 10 times if they are immediately pulled off). There’s a global hook counter now. After X number of hooks you can mori any survivor you have hooked at least once. It’s just less incentive to tunnel since you can get the same results with any survivor you think you can down. Yeah, you could still tunnel a weak link. But with already existing tunnel protection that could take longer than switching targets. Plus moris would be featured in every match which is fun
Admittedly I find it staggering that BHVR have never truly addressing camping and tunnelling after watching a few comp games but hey, they like feel and 'aesthetic' over gameplay. A killer going after one person constantly until they are dead is very horror movie or whatever but it makes for terrible gameplay. However gameplay to them is secondary, so whatever. Core issue with being on the receiving end of camping and tunnelling and why it's not such an issue in comp is two fold. Firstly in solo, there's really nothing you can do and many players are solo or duo. Even with two, one person taking a hit does little to delay things and the victim is still bleeding and moaning unless they equip multiple perks and can't move fast unless they want to leave scratch marks. The second reason is that in comp a team wins or loses together. If you run the killer for 5 gens whether because you are tunneled or because the killer is not so good, you still 'lose' because you failed to escape. As a team though if you are the only one to die and your team has 3 hook stages, that's generally a pretty good round in comp and very hard for the other team to beat.
Tunneling or camping isn't inherently bad. That's why IDV works and has tournaments on global and national scales. It is everything else around the game that makes for terrible competitive gameplay.
this type of video always reminds me when i went up against a team that i cannot remember the name of for the life of me but their description said "ex #1 comp team" or smth that teabagged me while i was playing bad and i was able to get a 1k and they called be a boring baby killer and i was acc cry laughing because of how hard i got stomped and still got a kill
If you have a decent amount of hours in the game, solo queue just ends up being even more abysmal because of the matchmaking. I have 6k hours over the past 8 years I've been playing, and I still get matched with people that have around 200 hours. If it was better designed to match you with people around your skill level, or even just play time, public games would be a lot less miserable for solo queueing as survivor. It doesn't bug me enough to the point where I seek out a team or anyone to play with, but in those very rare matches where everyone in the lobby is at least aware of the game's mechanics and plays at a decent level, they are so fun to me. Playing against a Nurse is fun when your team isn't full of spectators and booners, and I've always found playing against SWFs pretty fun as killer. Bully squads are more fun to go against that comp players, I will say. Never played comp, probably never will, but I definitely get the appeal and wouldn't knock anyone for it. Game is garbage, but it's fun garbage.
I think people, myself included, take it way too seriously. It sucks to say, but you should have no expectations when playing with randoms, especially in a no voice comm and asymmetric environment. Games that are "perfectly" balanced still have problems with matchmaking because its near impossible to actually understand how good someone is at any given time. And if you can't really deal with that, then the game really isn't for you. And plus, like the dude said, most people want to play casually. You "actually playing" makes the experience probably way worse for them then it does you, they are probably going up against these insane killers that they shouldn't even be matched with. You just have to realize that a game with only 1 "game mode" is gonna be rough no matter what. Look at fortnite, game has about 36 different queues just for the battle royale. And I wouldn't knock anyone for trying comp, I was thinking about doing comp for some other games. But to be so egotistical for a unbalanced party game is pathetic.
Thanks you for being honest about this dumpster fire lol these clown take trash game so seriously and get mad when nobody cares about it And lose to some random people
Thats a horrible take, the original comment is not being egotistical whatsoever, they are expressing dbd has a trash mmr system and its 100% true, and it NEEDS to be fixed, its COMPLETELY valid wanting a team of non monkeys and expect a match of fair skill in play, and dbd has long ditched the party game idea ever since they brought out active balance patches which is a trait pretty much only for competitive games. Im not trying to villianize casual/bad players but its SO rough having absolute trash on my teams and the frustration is valid @@peterjonesly
While I'm not personally the biggest fan of comp dbd. I always found the whole "it's so unbalanced and rng heavy" rather odd considering that there are quite sizeable tournaments for card games, whether it be digital or physical ones.
The last part hurt, sadly a thing that comes with comp scenes is social outcasts and lack of a manageable emotional life. Its often not their own faul but its the reason you see a lot of hatefull, ignorant and flat out evil people in online "comp" scenes, from dbd to cod zombies and anything in between. Beeing competitive can be good but these people are not making a good case for it imo. I just wish the developers would do some QoL chapters man...
I ve played against IpiC many times in pubs, solo queue, he always plays "fair" and matches are usually fun even if they end up in 4k or 3k , unlike sweatlord one tricks playing full meta slugging and tunneling like 100k s on the line
As someone who is new to comp, and is creating a competitive team (Moomento Moori) I consider Pubs and comp to be completely different games, and am looking to create a positive change in the competitive scene. Thank you for making this video explaining!!
love love love these glimpses into internet subcultures i had no idea existed. ive never even played DBD, but this video did a great job and laying everything out
Great video with a balanced perspective that highlights the extremes on both sides. I think the interesting thing is that anyone who thinks comp DbD is a joke, but cares enough about the game to comment about it on streams etc. still plays by their own internal rulebook. These are the people who think that doing sweaty things is 'anti-fun' and wishes people wouldn't use perks they believe are anti-fun, but can't seem to take it seriously when people set rules in a custom game which helps isolate skill on both sides. Comp player hypocrisy is in the video, so yeah, they should also understand casual players wanting to use strong builds to win or meme build just to 'see them work'. Reminds me of how some people think about competitive Pokemon in a similar way, making fun of it for being a kid's game only, or low skill/needing rules to work. All of these things can be true and there can still be good content / skillful gameplay if communities do their best to set some ground rules. Nothing wrong with not being into it, but casual and competitive are both valid.
He said that in the video. Comp Players being petty to each other makes it just as laughable. How can anyone takes these guys with their made up rules serious, if they can't even make a general rules set on how to treat other players? 😂
Very very good video speaking out of my own experience it is correct in nearly all points. Ur vids are so good killa whale i appriciate u not being so flashy and fast to judge on things like most players. ( including my self if it comes to killers like skully)
This was a really thoughtful, nuanced take on a highly divisive topic within the community. Naturally, I expect you’ll get flamed straight to hell for that. Either way, thanks for making this one.
im a new player like less than 100 hours im sure, i got really into watching videos of spectators of comp matches, i had no idea the comp scene was this toxic lmao but it makes sense glad to have the info as i continue to improve and find my way in the communtiy :)
when u have so many hours in the game the only thing some players find fun is comp. I dont play comp because i dont have time to scrim all day but i would play it and join a team because of how bored i am of normal dbd
If you want to join comp but are worried about the time come tryout for my team. We scrim for 2 hours a day some amount of times some weeks, which is to say not consistently
I kinda admire the idea of a competitive Dbd, its trying to keep Dbd to its simplest, purest form without the addon/perk interefance. Now, i do think it's a tad bit over the top but so is anything with a lot of passion. Anything that pushes a persons learning experience in their favourite game is A ok in my book, its not hurting anyone and helps them talented enough to get that good, get better.
I remember this tweet it was around the time V1 Blight dude said NA players are bad and pub players are bad. He’s still a joke and he lost to pub players in the Hans guy showcase 😭😭😭
Another banger from my boy, Killa Whale. His takes on the DBD community are always spot on. Dude should get an award for best takes. At this point, he should be running for president of the DBD community.
I'm a part of the competitive scene for Vermintide 2. Just as DbD, it's a game that was never intended to be played in any way competitive. (It's literally a cooperative PvE game.) But that didn't stop some excited people from doing so anyway. A lot of the issues I heard in this video are very, very similar to ones I have seen oh so many times in my community as well. There used to be quite the squabble between competitive players and those who played non-competitive Twitch mode (the highest difficulty available in the game without using mods) about who's *really* the better players or who's just too full of themselves, and that likely only really fizzled out due to declining player numbers (aided by the release of Darktide) and the growth of the competitive scene, which somewhat overtook Twitch mode by becoming more commonly known and easier accessible. What was most important however is, that lots of players of the competitive side (also described as the modded community) have often helped in giving every player more resources like guides on how to improve their own game in general, giving light introductions to the modded scene and so on. Any community will deal with issues, bad apples, "ego" and so on. (There have been so many different types of drama I wouldn't even know where to start.) But what's important is for the competitive side to be friendly and welcoming, and for the casual side to understand that the competitive side are really just people who enjoy the game more than almost anybody else and come up with sometimes very creative ways to make the lacking end game content more enjoyable to them (and bump their horns to find out who's better in a friendly manner). (And adding one tiny thing cause I really do feel with the competitive side on this one: I can 100% understand that a competitive player losing to someone using super meta loudouts on the strongest killers is frustrating. It's obvious that the game is not balanced and comp players do their best to counter balance that and aim to play the game in a way that's more fun instead of strictly optimal. So when they lose it may be in situations where they'd have easily won by abusing every broken perk or strategy and they're frustrated or just annoyed at the clear display that the game is simply so imbalanced that skill can not fill the gap and the developers clearly have little interest in fixing it.)
Man I really don't want tunneling and camping to be the only thing happening in pubs. It's so unfun, even if you are "prepared" for it. I play DBD to have fun, not to sweat for a win. Nothing interests me less than "winning". If comp DBD becomes the norm I'll quit the game. No fun to be had there (for me). As long as comp stays the isolated bubble it is everything is fine. I never clowened on comp - I simply don't care for it. People can have fun their way as long as it doesn't absolutely obliterate the fun of others. But problem is that these playstyles bleed through to pubs. Sure I can live with being stomped a few games, but it gets old and unfun pretty fast if it happens like 5 times in a row. Idk how BHVR would fix this short of tunneling being made literally impossible - which would have it's own problems. W video btw. Good points and good examples.
Really well done. I quit comp in my mid 30s once the pandemic ended. You touched on it in the video, but these are mostly kids playing comp, and people tend to forget that. I did and said a lot of dumb shit in my teens and early 20s. I think people should keep that in mind and give a little grace. Doesn't excuse saying truly heinous stuff, but most of us would just roll our eyes and move on if a 15 yr old said something stupid to us IRL. We just tend to forget that when we're online.
DBD has one of the most divisive Us vs Them communities to ever exist.

Nobody will care about this, but here's a bit of my experience :
5k hours in the game.

Throwing my two cents in here:
Comp DbD is pub IDV matches.
Sure it means the ruleset is the same as comp DbD, but the defined win condition and IDV making it core to gameplay means if you're the one tunneled out, it's not nearly as bad, you get rewarded for it
Calling DBD comp an IDV quick match is a compliment but I see your point
I forgot that game existed xD I used to play it with a friend of mine when DBD wasn't as big as it is today.
I got into IDV because a friend wanted to play with someone to make casuals bearable (bad games with someone to laugh about your embarrassing death with is far more fun) and from just playing both casually IDV just had that feeling of "I see how this would better lend itself to competitive play".

i dont have any issues with comp dbd, i think its cool when people love a game and are into it and make their thing. its just silly to me when people act like its *actually* something you should take seriously on a competitive level when the game is so binary in a lot of ways and has so much intrinsic rng and you need a million artifical rules to even approach a playable state. i dont belittle anyone for doing this, its fun and you should use your time however you enjoy but also when people go like RESPECT MY COMP ACHIEVEMENTS its like lmao...
Shut the hell up you losers
I feel like a most of the issues addressed are less about Comp itself but moreso about the community as a whole. The community already suffers a lot with an "Us VS Them" mentality and I think it extends to looking at Comp itself, "youre either Pubs player or Comp player" is insanely close to the "youre either a Survivor main or Killer main" we see a lot going around, it's just ever so slightly different to create the illusion that it is its own thing.

That's not comp player exclusive. Any person playing solo queue and getting trash teammates is gonna think the same "why did he do or didnt do that".

This is what I stick around for, even now when I don’t touch dbd.

Nah I love making little girls like you cry. All u gamers are trash losers and deserve to be treated like trash.
when the skull merchant eternal match happened, I was honestly rooting for the skull merchant
Me too lol. He clearly wasn't taking the game very seriously and was a good sport after
SOMEONE PLS LINK ME THIS ETERNAL COPING AGAINST NURSE!!!!
Ah. So they're fucking Melee players.
And with that I'm away.
I was watching this video and I’m like “So it’s like a younger Melee community?”.
I don't even play normal DBD and I think this is a fantastic breakdown of the comparison between the base game and Comp (Im an unbiased eye)
The DBD scene has literally been growing gradually, and steadily
@@fg-l3565 Yeah. It just took a long ass time.
Fixing the core problem of tunneling being the optimum way to play b/c of design:
No more hook states, just a time pool that slowly ticks down and doesn’t replenish for each survivor (you could Hook the same guy 10 times if they are immediately pulled off).
@@peterjonesly go off queen 💅
Thanks you for being honest about this dumpster fire lol these clown take trash game so seriously and get mad when nobody cares about it
And lose to some random people
Thats a horrible take, the original comment is not being egotistical whatsoever, they are expressing dbd has a trash mmr system and its 100% true, and it NEEDS to be fixed, its COMPLETELY valid wanting a team of non monkeys and expect a match of fair skill in play, and dbd has long ditched the party game idea ever since they brought out active balance patches which is a trait pretty much only for competitive games.
18:29 fr tho zeb and tru3 2vs8 would be insane
5:09 I love that you have featured spitz incident here 🤭
good to know that knightlight is a toddler that really lends me some perspective
Ive always wondered why dbd's competitive scene was not as big as idv's, certainly an eye opener video lol
Eggsize 19:37 the checkspot goat bro
Even the casual game of DBD is seen as a joke that shouldn't be played, nevermind the competitive side lmao
love love love these glimpses into internet subcultures i had no idea existed. ive never even played DBD, but this video did a great job and laying everything out
Oh man. Some Jimmie getting rustled with this one.
11:13, The 4 man team that beat momo were a comp team sniping, they were NOT random pub players bro 😂
my dude he says this in the video
He said that in the video. Comp Players being petty to each other makes it just as laughable. How can anyone takes these guys with their made up rules serious, if they can't even make a general rules set on how to treat other players? 😂
Interesting video. I haven’t even seen comp DBD, but you made it sound interesting.
very well made vid bro
Very very good video speaking out of my own experience it is correct in nearly all points. Ur vids are so good killa whale i appriciate u not being so flashy and fast to judge on things like most players. ( including my self if it comes to killers like skully)
6:54 that looks like it'd be hilarious to watch.

I want to see the full vod 🤣
This was a really thoughtful, nuanced take on a highly divisive topic within the community. Naturally, I expect you’ll get flamed straight to hell for that.
Either way, thanks for making this one.
As a DBDL caster, comp killer, and regular player for ohtofu’s comp scene, this was a comprehensive and fair look at comp!
im a new player like less than 100 hours im sure, i got really into watching videos of spectators of comp matches, i had no idea the comp scene was this toxic lmao but it makes sense glad to have the info as i continue to improve and find my way in the communtiy :)
when u have so many hours in the game the only thing some players find fun is comp. I dont play comp because i dont have time to scrim all day but i would play it and join a team because of how bored i am of normal dbd
If you want to join comp but are worried about the time come tryout for my team. We scrim for 2 hours a day some amount of times some weeks, which is to say not consistently
Just play a different game at that point homie. DbD isn’t the only game on the planet. That’s what I did when the game became boring.
Just add a ranked mode, devs.
Oh no, you opened the doors of kindergarten and now all the kids are gonna flock in screaming and crying
1:08 hey that’s me!!!
I remember this tweet it was around the time V1 Blight dude said NA players are bad and pub players are bad. He’s still a joke and he lost to pub players in the Hans guy showcase 😭😭😭
Dbd skill ceiling is so low that this game cannot be taken seriosly compared to other games like CSGO, OW2 or Fortnite.
this is the worst take i have seen this decade
@ Prove me wrong.
0:05 Resume everything + thanks for show us KnightLight being nothing more than a guy who bark a lot
Another banger from my boy, Killa Whale. His takes on the DBD community are always spot on. Dude should get an award for best takes. At this point, he should be running for president of the DBD community.
well said & very entertaining. i enjoy watching comp but the ego wars are difficult to look at.
Loved this video. So well put together! You have a new subscriber.
This is probably one of the best video summarising everything about compDBD. Thanks for being unbiased KW
He literally opened the video claiming he planned to mock the scene. In what world is that unbiased
LOL "Thanks for being unbiased" you say to an extremely biased video......man some of you people are ignorant af.
@@fg-l3565clearly haven't watched the video lol
@@fg-l3565 They mock themselves enough with their general attitude. He even defended their way to play the game. It's about how they behave
Comp dbd is the saddest thing ive ever heard of.
I've never played comp, but after watching this, I'll stick to pub. Great video, man. I learned a lot, and the editing was on point.
what a banger
My friend, I’m so glad you made this video. Content creators showing the comp community, I’ve been waiting for this moment for years!!
Great video))
