@RUclips. I hope you're looking after these guys. They are best!
Bring disk-like button back
Anyone know where the clutch slave bleed nipple is on one of these?
The independent motor trade is in safe hands with professionals like Josh who have the passion and enthusiasm for work of quality like that. Well done. What a nightmare of a job, manufacturers and design engineers need to be aware of what it takes to do repairs like this. All credit to Josh for saving the car. 👍🏼
This design of timing an engine is so bad and so overly complicated and expensive, that it must have been designed that way on purpose, so as to make more profit for the dealers.
Once it leaves JLR or whatever they call themselves these days and it’s out of warranty they couldn’t care less how difficult it is to repair!
Yep designed to hopefully be good through the warranty period and then cost the absolute most in labour and parts afterwards.
These videos are a helpful lesson in cars to avoid!
@@paulcharlton4788 I am sure you are right. Question is will you be buying one. Not I for sure.
How awesome was Josh for filming the job
That's a lot of work to swop those chains
Well done
Fantastic video. Josh is an amazing mechanic, a total professional who does not cut corners. It's great that he took the time to film this for the channel. Look forward to the full version 👍
Josh knows his stuff ! 👍
Have you ever seen so many positive comments! What a true professional Josh is and what a natural in front of the camera. Nice to find someone with the same work ethos as you guys to contribute to the channel. Top work all round.
Yep, he has a job for life for sure.
I`m an ex mechanic, & having watched Josh in action, I wouldn't hesitate to use or recommend JR, absolutely top notch! Not only did he do the work needed, he also did preventative work to maximise the cars lifespan, which is exactly the kind of mechanic you want! Brilliant work Josh! #rated! 😎👌
Josh is an absolute diamond for taking time to film that for you/us. Really appreciated.
That was a terrific video. Great work Josh.
We have to tip our hats to Josh and say a massive thank you, what a mega team player, anyone, like myself that doesn’t understand why garage bills are what they are can surely now understand exactly what we are paying for, a real eye opener for me. Rob & Chris you have a real friend there and that’s all to do with you and how you both conduct yourselves and this channel, just brilliant, well done again guys it’s really impressive. This was a really great, educational and interesting episode, thanks as always. Dave.
Agreed.
A video of this nature is worth a million words from the kids behind the service desk.
Cars are way too complex these days, asking for trouble.
Luckily people like Josh exist to put things right.
Whan an horrendous design that timing gear is though?
It's on the wrong end of the engine for a start!
Completely agree - unbelievable!
Русский
Always great when the guys you work with in the industry are happy to record also! Some mutual respect right there, and cracking content!
Who wouldn’t want to take their vehicle to this workshop?? Immaculate workshop and equipment and tools and Josh looking incredibly smart also.. Josh is obviously a very talented mechanic and he has made a fantastic video for all of us to enjoy. Well done 👍👍
Excellent job by Josh not only fixing the car, which seems like a lot of work, but also filming and explaining it all. No wonder he is so busy, he clearly knows his stuff.
Just goes to show, some jobs have to be left to the pros. No way you could attempt this at home on your drive or even a garage.
Really well done, and thanks Josh.
I think this is one of the best video's you've ever done. Josh is such a talented bloke and to show the whole process step by step as he worked on your car is absolutely brilliant! The quality of those original tensioners is absolutely appalling and JLR should be replacing timing chains or written off engines engine's free of charge. The other question was would a JLR dealer have taken the time to remove all the debris from the sump in the way that Josh did? I seriously doubt it.......
Completely agree, no problem if you take a job to him and he'll have a job for life as long as JLR manufacture engines like this one. Absolute disgrace. Great until 5 past warranty.
Just what harm do you think a plastic guide would have done?
Well it that's your attitude you shouldn't be within a hundred yards of a set of spanners! Firstly it's called taking pride in your work and secondly bits of tensioner can easily get smashed up by a spinning crankshaft and sucked into the filter of the oil pick up pipe from the pump and blocking it @@byteme9718
Great to see an expert at work, and very well vloged too. A workshop full of vehicles with the same problem is another story.... Nice one Rob 👍
JLR workshop would say "never seen that happen before"
Yeah- don’t buy a jaguar landrover 😢
Let's just hope that engineers like Josh are here to stay. This has been one of the best videos you've put out so far in terms of explanations and footage from a third party. Have to say I was sad to see it end. Great work keeping another vehicle on the road. That guide had been a guide too long! Cheers for all the videos guys.
I don't profess to be a mechanic in any sense of the word - but that was really impressive to see and now I appreciate the original issue and how Josh fixed it - 100% more like this Chris & Rob - much appreciated for sharing.
Josh knows his stuff no wonder he's always busy.
Rob & Chris you made an extremely wise decision getting Josh & Co to sort the timing chain out with all the other issues Josh has identified!! Real can of worms.
That Jag with 31k need a new chain - what the ***!!?? Great to see someone who is very experienced doing the job, making it look very easy: I know it isn't!! 👌👌
Guys I watched this video and I was spellbound ! So refreshing to see a young talented guy like Josh fit this timing chain explaining evrything as he went along. Thanks for showing us this we are very priviledged to have witnessed it
This channel is amazing, to see how these guys repair these vehicles. Wow, I still to this day have to write where the wires go when changing a plug. Well done Josh.
A really fascinating video, loved it. Josh is a real pro mechanic and a great presenter. It's brilliant when expert knowledge saves another vehicle. :)
Robb you where so lucky driving to Josh. What a pleasure Josh you done a great job well done good to see like minded tradesmen doing there job so well. Great video
John
That needed a certificate rating, what a nightmare to change a timing chain. If it was a bulletproof design that never usually needed work, it would be uncomfortable, but it does not appear to be anything like bulletproof. Total fanfare to Josh for demonstrating his skill, and knowledge and bring the horror package to life so clearly. You could see the honesty, skill and dedication he brought to what was a challenging couple of issues, the job, and filming the job, a great result on both scores. No wonder his set-up is the go-to place for such work.
Timing chains have been a nightmare ever since their reintroduction. Pissy little single roller chains and poor quality plastic guides are a recipe for failure and that's before burying them at the wrong end of the engine.
Good job on letting Josh sort the timing chain. It was a treat to watch him tackle it and the commentary was top notch. Deffo a future RUclips star!
Safe to say, I think we all wish we had a josh working on our cars. Top job once again..👌
Tell you what, he made it look SO easy, the sign of a good mechanic.
We need more of Josh the guy a natural
Afternoon Rob and Chris. That guy is an absolute top mechanic Josh certainly knows his stuff.
Well, how awesome was that to watch ? Something I'll never do myself, but thanks to you guys and Josh for showing us something we'd never normally see unless we were actually at a garage watching over the mechanic's shoulder. Excellent !
Wow Josh is really patient and really customer service oriented I can only imagine the labor costs on this one, nice video Rob and Chris.
What a mechanic Josh is, so good to see someone who knows his trade. Excellent video thanks Josh
SRUK What a diamond Josh is contributing his time and effort filming the whole process. What a talented bunch of lads. Also Brucie bonus that the timing chain is all it needs. Great result all round.
What an involved job! Loved the way Josh explained the job step by step, very informative.
Fantastic vid. Fascinating to see such a knowledgeable guy talk through his area of expertise.
Josh is a legend, he knows what he's doing alright, and massive props to him for filming it. Cheers Rob and Chris for another excellent video.
What a great video! That was such a nice thing of Josh to do in taking the time to show us all a big part of the process. It was very interesting, and again, SRUK is very fortunate to have that engine come out the way it did. Rob, you and Chris got the day off!
Excellent video. Josh really should start his own channel.
He doesn’t have time 👍
Josh is a genius in his trade, you guys lucky to have him. Great video!!
That was a fantastic video. - wow!! Congratulations to Josh for his expertise / engineering skills, camera and commentary skills!! What a pain of a job!! But his section by section explanation was unbelievable and such outstanding quality made the whole thing like a Haynes workshop manual. Josh is certainly the man for that job! 👏👏👏👏👏✊👌👍 total respect!
Amazing video and Josh definitely deserves a beer or 2 for that video.
She sounds loads better now and top work and cheers for the video Josh. Take care and can’t wait to see the next one
Note to ones self NEVER BUY ONE OF THESE !!! What a total pile of junk and whoever designed that must have been on something. Well done Josh and boys
Dreadful design , I would always be wondering where and when it would break . Jag. LR quality non existent.
Does this affect both Diesel and Petrol models?
I know others have said what a superb video that was but as a retired motor engineer of 44yrs I have to complement yourselves and Josh on the time taken filming and explaining the process. The design of these modern engines beggers belief with the cheap components and difficulty to repair it must be costing manufacturers a fortune in warranty claims. If your unfortunate to be out of warranty and footing the bill the reputation of the manufacturer is ruined. Thank goodness my cars got a cambelt and it's not running in oil!!!!!
Brilliant video and a great mechanic ! Thanks for putting the time in to film it for us, can't have made the job any easier!
That was fantastic, so interesting and informative. And what a decent guy Josh is to film and explain in such tremendous detail. Thank you, and thank you for sharing.
Hi Rob and Chris, well done Josh, brilliant job, nice to watch someone who knows exactly what he's doing. Completed the job start to finish smoothly and you just knew it would be 100% correct.!! Enjoying one guy's.. Alex.
What a great mechanic a true professional
A great video, big thanks to Josh for taking the thorough time to show us the job, I don't own an evoque and probably never will but great to watch something like that and learn it from a great teacher. That's what I like about youtube it's entertainment, and learning as you go
Great video josh so nice to see a professional a work . Thank you 👍🏻
Well done josh. I am sure the first 19 are the worst to do. Gets better after that I am sure.
Wow one of the best mechanic videos I've seen Josh obviouslly knows his stuff .I liked his explanations regarding the loose cam bolt ,the relative compression test, and the check on the cat via the scope I would definitely use his services if I needed a good mechanic.
Josh is really good. Not only an expert at what he does but very good as an instructor. It's good to see where to find trustworthy and expert professionals. Thanks for this. Excellent work everyone.
Josh knows his stuff !
Very interesting video 📹 as usual fellas 👌 what another great find in josh he is so professional and knowledgeable about his work 👏. I think farming this job out to him was a fantastic idea 💡 saved you fellas a lot of work and agrovation looking forward to the next one on it .stay lucky and healthy 👍 ✨
Great film. Josh really knows his stuff. All that knowledge and experience. Genius !
Great video, shows how involved the job is and how much knowledge and experience is needed to do the job right. Really liked the bit where he laid out all the parts on the bench and explained what goes where.
Never realized that those motors could be so complicated. Great of Josh to show us the inner workings and pass on his tips. Great episode.
Fantastic filming by Josh. Big thanks to him.
Josh is the man totally professional
Fantastic watching Josh at work, and well presented as well, great description on everything he was doing. Wow to my untrained eye, I would say that was a very near miss with the chain tensioner, it was great seeing all the insides of the DPF filter, the knowledge of this man is great.
Excellent video by Josh. He definitely needs to set up a channel doing the mechanical side of things, especially as he's so thorough. It's amazing how such a crucial piece of the engine can have so many fragile parts like those plastic guides. Credit where credits due, these mechanical videos are brilliant 🙂👍🏻
Well done Josh! explanation was fantastic!
The section where Josh changes the timing chains is brilliant. What a knowledgeable guy. LR should talk to guys like him when it comes to Engine Design.
Absolutely fascinating to see how much work is involved with so many tips to avoid screwing it up for yourself; for example do not use power tools to undo the clutch plate etc. To my way of thinking this demonstrates modern engine design with just too many things to go wrong including smaller/thinner and cheaper components that will fail. Classic built to a price. Josh is a superb mechanic with so much knowledge and skill.
I really enjoyed this. Josh is the man! regards and respect-Kenny
That was so enjoyable to watch, well done guys. Thanks very much Josh for putting in the effort to film your work: it was so interesting to see in detail how you did that job and also to to learn a bit about how a modern diesel engine works. I thought engines and cars were tested incredibly thoroughly and it's shocking really that JLR are having this sort of problem.
A Huge Thank you to Rob & Josh on showing us the problems with JLR 4x4's and How the Professional's (Josh & Team) go about getting them sorted & back out on the road again.
Wonderful to watch such skilful people at work. They quietly and confidently know and have a feel for every step of the way. Thanks to all, and it was a joy to see - plus that engine has been given a new lease of life.
How good was that, unbelievable amount of work, well done Josh 👏👏
Unbelievable filming Josh mate. Your the man. I’m very confident if I had the tools I could tackle one of these just off this video alone. Thanks.
I could tackle taking it apart, but putting it back together properly, not so sure!
@@briancleminson6156 😂😂
Echoing the praise for Josh. What crazy amount of work to replace a timing chain such as removing the gearbox. Ive done a few cambelts/chains but having seen this I'd think twice about a modern car. They dont last as they are way too complex meaning people cant afford to fix them as the car ages, so good condition cars go in the crusher.
I have always thought that plastic was the ideal material to make internal engine wearable components from🤣 and thin chains, what a good idea! really glad I left the motor trade behind!! Josh needs paying in Krugerrands for his patience and skill!
Phil
Excellent video chaps, Josh is a diamond what else can I say ❤
I wouldn't waste my money on a Jag that looks like any other car and needs a timing chain at 31 thousand miles. Seriously there are so many better cars to choose from than these things. Too many so called luxury cars today are overpriced and overated and that T chain assembly looks like it wouldnt be out of place on a moped. Good vid though lots of info.
.. and designed by accountants??
@@daveflanagan6510 aren't all of them now unfortunately.
Computer making final decision !
Jags - they dont make 'em like they used to !
I agree to an extent. I mean, a lot of timing belts have a longer service life than that Jag chain. I bet that car has been thrashed during its short life to warrant a new chain so soon. I had an Alfa 1.6 T Spark that required a new belt every 30k miles, but only changed it once in the two years I owned it. Then ended up trading it for a Saab 9-3, with belt change intervals every 90k miles.
I'd be curious to know what the recomnended chain change intervals are on these ingenium engines.
I was always led to believe that chains didn't need changing! How wrong those so called mechanics were who said that!!!
However, most mopeds are only single pot engines, so no where near as elaborate a set up as this. But maybe a Perodua Nippa had a similar set up, albeit with a 3 pot 600cc engine.
Brilliant to see knowledgable people at work, my god things have moved on from my old 3.9 classic range rover, Kudos to JR & Co for taking the time to film all that, and to explain in a manner that novices can understand. Appreciated fellas.
Josh the Ingenium Genius!
Shrewd choice to specialise in these engines. He'll always have plenty of work!
Seriously. A great video.
A master of his craft and a brilliant video and description.
Massive thanks to all involved 😀
Wow! What a great vid! Josh = Legend! What a great job and hat tip that he was willing to take the time to do such an in-depth video too. Cracking content as usual Rob and Chris!
Been looking forward to this one!
Outstanding. Hats off to Josh for such a brilliant, informative video. Will watch every minute of the extended one when released. Can easily see why people go there and JLR recommend them. A proper outfit with skilled mechanics/engineers.
Wow. What a great video! What a fantastic, high quality & professional job by Josh & Co. Honoured that he could also capture it so well and do a sterling job of explaining the processes. What an absolute pro, a true credit to the profession.
Would Josh share in his opinion why these chew the timing chains so badly??
He said it in the video the Reason: chains are way thinner nowadays and of course the plastic.tensioners don't help
I can't believe they make the chain guides out of plastic. With the speed that chain moves over the guide, they are BOUND to fail before long, due to the constant heating and cooling, causing the plastic to become brittle. It's madness imo, unless there is a valid reason to make them from plastic.
@@organiccold yes but that goes for most manufactures now, but to see some failing at 30k there has to be something specific to this engine, lack of oil to the chain maybe? Or just poor components
If this video an't worth a thumbs up, i don't know what is. Great content.
Amazing video I hardly noticed the time passing as I was engrossed in what was going on. Josh is very skilled at what he does and explains it brilliantly - facinating to watch. What a complex job a timing chain is on these engines must need hours of labour. The fact that they had three ingenium engines in at the same time and one with only 31K doesn't say much for these engines - JLR really didn't do themselves any favours with this engine it really ought to have been better effort.
You can't badmouth JLR or your comment will be removed 🤣 ask me how I know!
You cannot beat that extensive knowledge. What a joy to watch. Thanks all for filming and editing this video.
He’s a Sound lad 😊good job
Yeah sure josh doesn't wanna tell you how he uses his tool ha ha. Great content you guy's always provide us thanks.
Really reassuring when you watch a professional like Josh at work who KNOWS what he's doing and does it so thoroughly. Can't believe a design that creates so much work to repair maintainance parts that appear to have a life starting at 31k.
keep Josh in your phone book, what a professional.
👌 Awesome 👌 👏 Josh is human encyclopedia. He definitely knows these R.R inside out. What an amazing top man👌👍👏💖.
Josh should definitely have his own channel, love his calmness and detailed explanation and knowledge...👌👍👏 Big thank you to him for taking time to film this video in such little details. I wish he was my mentor when I was trying to learn, I wouldn't have spent most of my time getting coffees and teas and cleaning instead of learning.
I left that apprenticeship after 10 months as I realised the stone doesn't bleed.
Thanks Rob for making this possible and sharing it with us. Can't wait for the full video even if it's hours long. The more the merrier.
The Best video about R.R timing chains out there.
Big thanks to all participants who participated in making this video. I'm about to re-watch it again after leaving this comment. 👌👌👌👍👍👍👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏💝💖✌❤🍀
Somethings never change. On the Ford Granada they fitted a fibre timing gear which used to disintegrate and if the sump was not cleaned out you ended up with a wrecked engine from debris blocking the oil pickup in the sump.
Funny you say that I had the same thing on an old Corsair years ago but wasn't big problem because the local breakers yard had a v4 transit with the same gear cost me a fiver and fitted in an hour when I got home aaaaaah the good old days .
I own a bmw x5 40d msport individual. Took it too a bmw specialist in Manchester, guys were proper welcoming and made me a brew and let me chill in the workshop whilst fixing my car. Since then I will always go back and made them my number one contact
Absolutely amazing video. Josh certainly knows his stuff. He will never be short of work after people see the quality of the work & knowledge he has.
Steve.
Josh and his mate are top notch mechanics and having the equipment they have is essential great video,
Superb filming, work and description. Thanks Josh and thanks Rob.
What a tremendous informative video. Never realised the amount of work to do this job. Thank goodness there are dedicated people like Josh to do this sort of work. His knowledge and professionalism is priceless.
So nice to see how these cars chains gets changed. What a job. Great video and explanations by Josh for the process. Cheers for sharing it.
As a mechanic myself i can tell that Josh is a top mechanic. He will always be busy with these terrible Ingenium engines too
What a brilliant, fascinating and entertaining vid. A real treat watching an expert at work who explained and walked us through it step by step. Full respect Josh 👍👍👍
Ratings to Josh for doing the recording true professional.
Brilliant video from Josh , showing how intricate modern engines are, and also highlighting their fragility! Josh is a credit to his profession, no wonder he is fully booked, and even the JLR dealers use him. Looking forward to the longer video 👍😎
