That's great. The first foreign country to export should be Britain, get them hooked and brand it as "Bilaiti Mahua" when sold in Britain and a certain portion of the profit should go the tribal welfare.
My caste people in uttar pradesh do make mahua alcohol in village .mahua and indian rice alcohol should be mainstream. But we all know non resident indians do collect raw materials from underprivileged but hardly pay them properly. We have already seen that how indian perfumery oils go to france and Italy and get sell in high prices but Indians from india always remain underpaid.
Mahua was important for every rural household, in up and bihar, it was one of the main sweetening ingredient in different recipes which is now replaced by sugar.....
Adivasis of Gujarat used to make gud out of sweet mahua flowers. They also used to make cooking oil out of mahua seeds. Whole industry was destroyed after mahua trees were chopped of !
Not Urak but Feni has gone global. There are many local breweries in Goa who produce it. Most often people confuse Urak with Feni. Mahua liquor should have gone global long time ago.
We used to eat it inAP when we were children it is sweet and it has something in it which makes you eat more despite not so tasty and little bit bitter in taste . There is saying even lord Ram eat them when he visited Shabari amma in Bhadrachalam forest.
Superb. Has anyone tried these bottled ones? Coming from Nagpur, Vidarbha, always heard of mahua but always afraid as it is crudely made and it was hard to get good quality brew. Will definitely try to find a bottle next time I'm in India.
Mahua I've tried tribal parts of Jagdalpur Chattisgarh and Malkangiri Odisha. There must be some way of SOP for monetising it through mass spirit production, so it can booster for tribal welfare. Can't believe Odisha is stll captioned as Orissa by renowned channel while the speaker pronounced correctly. 3:323:323:32
I don't know if you said it to mock the traditionalists / right wingers but "Som Ras" is not alchoholic drink, the alchoholic drink is called "Soma" which is made from "Som Ras" by fermenting it. "Som Ras" is just the Juice extracted from "Som Tree" leaves. And yeah IT IS a great idea to start promoting "Soma" and all other kinds of Indian traditional Indigenous alchoholic beverages into the market, Just like what Japan did with "Sake". Kashmir has it's own wine making traditions since ancient times and many other regions also has it too. So yeah IT IS a great business idea / area and should be approached with utter seriousness.
After impleme ntation of prohibition Gujarat government chopped down lots of mahua trees! Adivasis used to sell it and there was big market in Gujarat! Cooking oil industry also suffered!
Indian government will banned anything that is Indian, especially in liquors. Just see the case of toddy in south India. It is much more tastier than many foreign liquors and is made from palms native to the country. But it is banned in Tamilnadu.
I have always wanted to try mahua liquor but could not find it. I have heard people say that pure mahua liquor ( diluted adequately) tastes great. Tribals rights should be protected. I don't want large companies/ MNCs , run by indians or others , to exploit tribals.
I once consumed it ...trust me it was awesome as long as flavour and smell is concerned... It has the capability to become one of the best in the world... But the process of making was dangerous...
I think MP is promoting it as heritage liquor or something. Somebody brought me a bottle of mahua from their heritage shop and its crap. I couldn't finish one sip.
It's good but the indian youth should drink in a controlled way without destroying their lives which the enemies of Bharat want. Better export them as also commented by others here.
BTW, note that Scotch is from Scotland and not England, so the English are still drinking foreign drink when drinking Scotch (keeping the difference between UK & England in mind). On a similar note, I hope the tribals of these states have a council who has trademarked the name "Mahua" so that they are the legitimate owners of the brand and get royalty for it's use besides consumption.
* All efforts must be made to ensure that tribals are involved in the process and benefit economically, without exploitation. * Mahua must be made, aged and sold in India and abroad as Indian brands to have substantial value addition. * Mahua flowers must not be exported create foreign brands. We must have Indian brands promoting it as Heritage liquor.
The government and banks should help tribal people to set up their business to produce mahuha uplift their lives community with tax rebates for tribal people
i think this less harmful for people because its natural but limitless everything is harmful for people maintain hygiene and make this product for everyone if is not harmful for body then definitely people should encourage this startup i am not fever of drinking but if anything less harmful for people then who want drink they drink but yes people should know the limits always health is very important for everyone
And now it is no later sacred but has now been profaned by mass production. Cheapened and sold to those who have no clue about its origins. The losers are the tribals whose livelihood depended on the hand collection of mahua and other forest produce. There goes the face of development!
It is not a tribal thing, upper caste asked the tribal people to make it for them, it's a matter of shame for MP to only give rights to ST..racist towards brahmins always

Superbly said.
After drinking this, people will act like "Mahua" Moitra ? 🤣
Need to drink 200 litres for that 😂

In bihar also it's called mahua..my mother said that she and her sister used to collect mahua flowers and then it was used to make liquor...

Scotch Whisky is Desi Daaru of UK
Indians should drink Indian Desi
Now Britain will change from scotch whiskey to Mahua just like chicken Tikka masala is the favorite dish
I hope that it will be served on air India to promote it more

What about the decreasing number of mahua trees?
You have a large Indian diaspora overseas that loves everything India and alcohol is part of their culture. It’s all about market.
Great very good taste.
Here in Bengal we have also indigenous "Mohua"
We have Mahuya Liquor. Is is possible to make Mahuya Wine? Like wine made from Rhododendron fllower.
Fruits or seeds of mahua flower called Doliya is used to make cooking oil!
Good to see our indigenous culture and product is coming our mainstream

If hygienically distilled it is a good alcoholic beverage
It is avilable even in Nepal also and drinking since as I know by my childhood

In the past local liquor consumption killed people by intoxication. That's why we have regulations for making and supply of liquor.

The British and the subsequent Indian governments did 5he same to cannabis.
