  • India has surpassed China as the world’s most populous country.
Driven by states like Bihar, the country's population is forecast to continue growing.
With Bihar’s fertility rate much higher than the national average, authorities are using a raft of family planning measures, including incentives for sterilisations, which critics say places the burden unfairly on women.
Home to more than 120 million people, competition for jobs is tougher than ever as the state struggles to curb its high unemployment rate.
101 East investigates attempts to control India’s population growth and the challenges of finding work in the world’s most populous country.

Parents using their children as pension plans is selfish and unfair. They're not your property just because you gave birth to them. They did not have a choice in the matter.

swthane saying that children did not have a choice in the matter, is an inane thing to say. What child would have made some other choice than to come alive and be born?
And what about all the people who somehow expect corrupt governments to provide their pension plans? What of the saying that "blood is thicker than water"? Isn't security in one's own family or in having many children, possibly more reliable than trusting in the economy and government?
I figure if you want old-age-security, you have far more security in having 10 children than in having 1. 10 children is a large range of possibilities, that at least one of your children will be in a good position to take you into their home, when or if you become old or disabled, and do it willingly and be glad to do it. Having only 1 child is a huge burden on the children. So this 1 child is responsible for 2 parents and 4 grandparents? Is that even realistic?

India ,s Biggest Mistake - Over population
    Indian Population -1.4 billion .
This is over population by 700 million .
I read a report that in 70 years ,India increase its population by 1 billion .
When you are poor n weak ,why have many children !
No money ,resources ,how to support children
It takes at least 20-25 years to support a child giving education ,Food ,health care ,clothing ,shelter ,money, transportation etc
Indian economy- 3.7 trillion ,how to support 1.4 billion ?
What is the use of Vedic knowledge ,BhagavaguIta ,Scriptures ,Oldest civilization etc .
If U do not have common sense ,foresight ( can forsee ),pragmatism ( what works ) when analysing problems in country .
b- Indian National Ieadership responsible for India,s problems
c- How to provide jobs ,health care ,education ,infrastructure ,housing ,food ,clothing ,transportation ,safety, security etc for millions ?
d- Indian population should have been reduce by 700 million a 100 hundreds ago.?
Why no Indian leader took action to control population growth .

@@airplanedude3103 Correct. I've been online and read the Indian census data going back to 1940, when it was over 300 million. By 1980 it had climbed to over 600 million, and from 1980 until 2011 (when the last census was conducted) it skyrocketed to 1.3 billion. As of this year it's now climbed to 1.4 billion and is predicted to reach 1.7 billion by the middle of this century! So, the population literally doubled TWICE in the space of half a century, that's simply unsustainable and is the root cause of so many of India's current and future problems! I felt so bad for the guy whose mother was scolding him, thinking that he was goofing off in school. You could see how stressed out he was. We have a similar problem to a lesser extent in the US. Everyone claims to be hiring, but so few qualified people are getting hired either because they are too over-qualified and companies don't want to pay higher wages, or because employers have wildly unrealistic expectations that don't match up with the salaries they offer. It's causing rising unemployment and under-employment rates that are contributing to younger generations no longer having disposable incomes. A lot of younger people will get scolded by older generations who no longer understand how the economy works and get frustrated that their children and grandchildren aren't leading the same lives that they did decades ago.

I went to India in 1995 from Denmark. At that time there were 830 million indians. Now, 28 years later there are 1.3 billion people. That's almost 500 million more people in 28 years. THAT IS A LOT!
Soon, that will be not only a problem for India. Honestly, I feel sorry for the indians. They are humans too, that would love some peace and quiet sometimes. But they can never have it it India.

sadly people need to bear consequences - many people have poor because they have too many kids. When women in Europe worry and save to get first cild late, in other parts of world women do not worry that much and end with 4 and 5 kids. It requires some reflection and thinking. In many societies - some old person had to die, to make space for new person.
