Loving these 'bandit unknown' duels. Consistently shows a serious knowledge of your opposition's pro's/con's can be more important than what plane you have... or are up against! (Raptor possibly excluded? 😉)
The raptor is so stupidly good. It’s rare to beat one. I’ve gotten in my fair few fights with them in game, only won 3 times because the raptor pilot got over confident
A properly simulated Raptor is very easy to beat... It is called Time. They are very screwed on operational percentage and apparently have a lot of rust issues as well, coupled with Lockheed's failed strongarming and missing subcontractors for the Raptor, all of these are factors that have set it up for an early retirement. So if they had taken a few pages out of the lawbook for Right to Repair, they could have at least kept them around a bit longer, but more expensive on maintenance.
@@kevinwilliams3804 Provided it makes it to the merge... A platform can be as fancy as it wants, but if it is hard to maintain, get parts for or keep up logistically, it is an useless war machine. There is a reason why the old F-15 will stick around longer than the Raptor despite being a less capable airframe.
Your videos are honestly some of the best out there when it comes to DCS content. Been binge watching all of your videos and the quality of your videos just keep on improving
That's why I love aircraft from the generation of the mirage. Much skill required, high payoff. I don't even play dcs I just love your videos and how you explain dogfighting
@@GrowlingSidewinder Be nice to see you play ball in the good old 29 too. You have certainly honed your mig skills lately. It's not perfect, but certainly a pilot's plane.
Jester walking back to base... Boss: 19 tomcats have been destroyed and 19 pilots have been killed. How come you are the only comes back in perfect health out of all of those missions? Jester: ............... (looks around) ..................... ................... Guess Im just lucky sir!
I think the Mirage is very underrated. In the hands of a skilled pilot it’s a deadly fighter. As you have just amply proven. That being said I don’t know how it is in BVR
Yes, the mirage can be very lethal in dogfight, in BVR it is good, I have tried it, but the 530 super is a missile with very short range in the game, it is also a semi-active radar guided missile, also called FOX-1 , so you have to keep the lock on the target all the time.
Excellent explanation of the offset two circle! Very enlightening, Also thank you for explaining how to counter, that would have been my next question. Keep up the great work.
Might've already been mentioned by someone else - or you might even know anyway - but there's a switch under the HUD that'll give you a shoot cue with the Mirage too. I haven't tried it because I don't get to gun stuff that often, but it can pop up when they're part way down the snake.
This is really interesting, because it is for you first. I laughed with you, not as you usually do when you shoot an adversary down, but when Jester pulled one on him. Love❤️
The Mirage's gunsight has hindsight logic. In an American or Russian plane, you shoot when the pipper is on the target. In the Mirage, you shoot before the pipper reaches the target, and if there's a bullet at the bandit's range when the pipper crosses him, THEN you'll hit. It's great for crossing snapshots, but basically impossible to get a tracking shot unless the other guy really cooperates. The pipper isn't really a sight, it's a range mark on a virtual line of tracers. And people keep saying the Mirage can't do a rate fight, but now it's such a meme that no one even tries to hold corner speed. By the numbers, it will rate about as well as an Eagle or a Flanker. It's not a top-tier rate fighter like the Hornet or Tomcat, but it's not a MiG-21 either UNLESS you yank all your speed away. At 200 knots it really is a total dog; the high-alpha vortex state is a great feature of delta wings, but it's not the only regime they work in. Keep it between 350 and 400 and the other guy will have to really fly correctly to come around the circle on you. The Eagle guys have been learning to think like a Mirage, now the Mirage guys need to take a moment to think like an Eagle. They're not so different.
Jester loaded up his shorts when those rounds whizzed by and ejected. All that extra wind in the cockpit blew Cougar's kneepad papers everywhere. Great stuff GS. You're holding clinics up there.
I would LOVE an “advanced maneuvers” tutorial on establishing the offset two-circle. First time I’ve ever seen it. Your diagram was helpful, as was the tacview but I’d love a mechanical breakdown from the cockpit of setting it up. Would also be curious to see a breakdown of how to counter someone moving into the offset two-circle-if you’re willing to teach us how to kill you, that is. Just got my VR headset on Black Friday, real excited to jump into DCS and IL2 with it!
Man ... you're my hero! I have enthusiastically reviewed almost everything you have done on the topic of DCS in the past month and you really delighted me! I guess because of the shouted movie Top Gun and F-14 which really looks "dark" I intended to buy an F-14 module but I was scared of all that powerful electronics in the cabin so I was hesitant about Mirage 2000 and at the same time afraid that it would not be able to carries with competition, such as e.g. F-14 (I'm not sure about the F-16) but you convinced me that buying a Mirage is a good investment! Thank you for this excellent and instructive video.
I really love these videos where you don't exactly know what you're up against until you see them. That really makes it that much more interesting with those few moments of uncertainty on what to do.
Awesome fight, one of the most impressive, honestly saying. Two things I learned from this video: 1) if you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear a result of a thousand battles, if you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat, if you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle - from Sun Tzu's The Art of War And 2) it is not always principal what airplanes of similar generation you are dogfighting with, it matters who are the pilots on both of them. Than you for the great content, GS!
You actually did it, you madman! If only the Mirage's gun had the dispersion to fill up that entire gun reticle... it still feels more like spray and pray than any sort of precision instrument IMO. Also, thank you for showing how to fight against a *very* superior rate fighter with a Mirage; This was quite different to your usual gameplans, but still very enjoyable and interesting to watch.
Very cool! Not in my budget right now but I intend to have the gear to play soon. Until then I’ll just have to live vicariously through you and your skills Learning a lot can’t wait to play will be watching
That’s about what I was thinking on how to counter a superior rate fighter in a “two circle fight”, then you did it. I must have picked that up from Robert Shaw’s books, 1985 or 1988.
Very nice proof of concept tactics there and well explained in the Tac view recap. By the way, as much as I like the "victory lap" after each kill I would prefer another close up view of the hits, your operatic dirge mourning the imminent death in slow -mo. It's so choice I feel it might be your signature feature on this channel...don't think we are blase to it. Thanks for posting Growly, another fine episode indeed.
@@VisibilityFoggy yeah, I worked F-15’s, with a three year stint on F-4G Wild Weasels in between, for my whole Air Force career. Got to see just about every aircraft, including the MiG-31 and Su-27, up close. Even flew back seat on several occasions.
Late to this one since my cable modem decided to peace out like Jester did in this video. Crappy electrical infrastructure here and brown outs are as common as in Baghdad, Iraq.
