Great stuff Briana. It definately is something I resonate with as I'm currently doing parts work with an IFS therapist, working on inner child healing and more. I get the same image out of this exercise, which is a baby left in a crib shared and waiting for his mother to be there. DIscomfort is located from the sternum and down to the root chakra area. My mother wasn't there on a consistant basis. The work to get in touch with this child with my protector parts allowance has been a process.
Reading Richard Schwartzs book "You are the one you've been waiting for" is helping too as well as yoga, EMDR, NADA acupuncture, EFT tapping, mindfulness and meditation all in combination.
Not healing this inner child wound has deeply influenced my ability to attract and interact romatically as I subconciously tried to make them mother me. Although that does make me feel safer, I want to create enough self leadership that I can date person as an equal.
Keep up making such a beautiful difference with your work!

Can you expand on the protector parts? I can relate and have a hard time connecting with myself.

Thank you and I absolutely relate with a mother who was in her addiction and own trauma responses. A father that was absent and then gone by 7 years old. I find I am looking for a caregiver to fill those empty and distorted parts that are seeking to be filled by the outside. I am on the same path doing the work and putting into practice. The book is a great resource and thank you.

@@xiebabe01 Protector parts are essentially sub-personalities we have and are created to protect us against pain and, discomfort and thing and feelings we associate (subconciously as dangerous or risky). These parts become more active when they sense those dangers and will use trick to numb or distract you from feelings those feelings or subjecting yourself to "dangerous" situations.
The protectors, even though their intentions are good, will disable you from conencting to your vulnerable parts and wounds - as long as they don't trust it's safe to do so. That's why most people need help to let them bypass the "doors" into your wounded parts. Those parts did not get their needs met and/or were hurt in the past. Their healing requires you to get in contact with them. By then you'll understand their needs as a parrent to them and become more "self led". That also enables your to access many emotions that were previously "frozen". Most of those feelings tend to be raw and you will most likely feel more alive, energetic and happy as a result of that process.

Thank you as a person who need visual assistance and verbal this was so helpful for me. I find myself in dissociation much of the time and have to work on coming back to my body and the moment.

IDK, one time my intuition told me that I needed to flee ASAP to distance myself from the guys that emerged suddenly from around the corner of our gated and abandoned courtyard. I sprinted to the exit and pushed through the heavy gate and ran up the street, heart pounding but safe distance. The next morning, I found out that they had these guys on camera stealing multiple cars from the garage downstairs.

I use to be able to tell the difference between my intuition ( properly known as your gut brain ) and anxiety. But after severe post separation abuse I can’t tell the difference any longer.

This stuff gets so complicated. Too complicated. I want a transfer letter from the ex and a psychological evaluation in order to date me. Period.
