In our shop,we don’t weld because the metal is thin from rust, we panel bond these arches instead because glue won’t rust .( it’s about same as j b weld) then filler over n prime n paint. (Fusor panel bond 30 mins) will last a lifetime.
I have the same issue just at the bottom of the piece there, but when I painted it and removed the paint there’s this big line along where the tape was. Do I have to paint the entire part just like in the video rather than just a section ?
@@infantry237 I know someone who had this same repair done by a body shop a few years ago. Just cleaned up the rust and paint $1900. Two or three years later rust was back. Thanks for watching.
@@rahulajayan5546 Yearly oil treatment will help slow it down. But this is actually a manufacturer design flaw. Same as why the rear fenders rot out on the 3rd gen dodge pickups.
@@swc-diygarage yes....my escape has got yearly krown treatment since new. And should be the reason why it's still holding up, but the wheel arches, rear tail gate has started to show surface rust.
Thank you this is helpful with under what all needs to be done for my escape .

You should check out our Escape quarters to fix this rust. They're made out of aircraft composites and easier to install.

You can back mask the lip on the fender or the body line above or below the gas door and do a blend. I did a video on blending into a body line.

What makes this design so prone to rusting out?
Insufficient drainage between the inner and outer fender. Moisture and road dirt get trapped and rot it from the inside out.
@@swc-diygarage Is there any way to prevent it?
