I feel my episode coming on; light headed, unable to focus my eyes, weakness and draggy. I have had weight loss surgery, but no GP has ever explained this so clearly . Thank you Dr. Hodges.
So far this is the best explanation not only of the symptoms but also manageability which is what I have been searching for. I have had hypoglycemia for years but a few days ago my doctor told me that the symptoms I am experiencing is Dumping syndrome. My pet peeve with this is that I feel extremely tired after eating and then I automatically go lie down and I find myself just sleeping for the whole day and I can't stop myself from sleeping I just have to sleep it off.
This video helped so much, thank you!! I just learned I have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and saw this is common within the EDS commmunity and I have being going to doctor for so long and they always say I am ok, and never really helped me... I did noticed sugar and dairies make me worso, and felt a bit better after stop eatting them... but carbs, I always tried to eat whole rice, wheat, sugar, is like it is not as bad with the refined versions, but I guess I have to let go of carbs... thank you!
I never had any gastric surgery, any surgery whatsoever on my stomach but I started having these symptoms a year ago. Since then it's gotten worse. I have to limit sugars to my cheat days, after some chocolate, pop and pizza yikes the sweating starts, the grumble and then the run to the bathroom. It's really cleaned up my diet going through this. I've had to stick to meat, real butter, cheese, vegetables and sprouted bread and have smaller meals more often to make sure that sugar spike doesn't happen. Thank you doc, this is the best explanation I've heard.
I don't have glucose issues with dumping syndrome, nor have I had gastric bypass surgery. I have however had serious Gerd before symptoms started. There's really not that much info on this issue. Any new research findings are desperately needed.
OMGosh! Thank you SO much Dr Hodges! I've had this for YEARS! I have not had any stomach surgeries but my Type II diabetes is not well controlled (working on it with new endocrinologist now) and I believe there may be nerve damage from that to my pyloric valve possibly. My diabetes was only diagnosed a year ago. I have not had nutritional counseling. I live in a very remote place where medical care is hard to get, so maybe that's why. I can't wait to make your suggested dietary adjustments! I have been misdiagnosed many many times and told I have a lifelong disease that is going to degenerate to the point I will be bedridden. Not true!! Gastric dumping syndrome is actually GOOD news for me! I'm so excited. LOL So, again, thank you very very much! Happy New Year!
Hi Charlotte thankyou for covering this soon as I have a meal not long I soon need to go immediately after a few hours or so. what medication could help stop this? pls let me know many thanks x
How is it that I can eat certain carbs or sugars at times and be completely ok, but other times I won't and will experience this syndrome? Just curious.
Help! We have been trying to figure out what is wrong with my daughter for her entire 16 years of life. We’ve seen a gastroenterologist and a rheumatologist and doctor after doctor. She has every single one of these symptoms when she eats… She also has ARFID AND HAS A VERY LIMITED NUMBER OF FOODS THAT SHE CAN EAT. SO WHEN SHE EATS, SHE FEELS HORRIBLE. BUT EVERYTHING THAT I’M READING SO FAR IS CONNECTED TO GASTRIC SURGERIES. SHE’S NEVER HAD THAT… CAN YOU LEAD ME IN THE DIRECTION OF FINDING MORE INFORMATION ABOUT PEOPLE WHO MIGHT BE EXPERIENCING THIS WHO’VE NEVER HAD SURGERY BEFORE?
May I recommend that she gets tested for MTHFR. Please find a functional Medine Dr. If you go through your insurance, you will be in a system that wants to draw all the value that they have written down on their contract potentially causing more harm. My problems started when the gastroenterologist made a biopsy of my stomach lining.

Why would someone have these symptoms but have not had surgery? I’ve had these episodes all my life…never had gastric bypass surgery.
Well said!!!

I have the worst effect if I eat syrup on a pancake or waffle.
Also if I eat too much fat. Had a bad experience with pimento cheese!
