I have attended so many classes on color theory and this is the first time that I have clearly understood how to add depth. You are an amazing teacher. I am a beginner and this has helped me immensely. Thank you for being awesome,
Artists would say this is the most important lesson to know. Like with a rose. The light and depth of the colors fool the eyes, makes the art appear real. Realistic type art need these hues.
Your teaching is amazing!!! I actually took art classes and teacher taught nothing! "Take a book & paint." That was the teaching! I was looking for a way to make my flat art look dimensional and I found you. Thank you so very much for explaining everything and now I am going to put your teaching into practice. Your head and shoulders above a lot of teachers so God bless you and keep smiling because you're making me smile.❤
Belle, I am smiling big time because of this comment! I can’t tell you how much it blesses me to know that my efforts and creating videos are helping artists like yourself. I will admit, these videos are a lot of work, and what I do on my channel is truly a labor of love. So your feedback is like beautiful, perfume or anointment of healing to my soul. God bless you sweetheart and I pray you keep learning all you need for your artistic endeavors.
Wow , if all art teachers are like you, everyone would know how to paint. You are awesome! You packed the basic concept into one simple video. Amazing!
Thank you so so much. I started watching you to get some tips on soft pastels. Note I can’t stop watching. I have learned so much. Thank you thank you thank you
Your awesome . I'm addicted to painting and it's only been 2 weeks . I feel so much calmer in my everyday life, less anxiety. Painting is a great form of meditation. The way you explained it all was like a eureka moment.
YAY!! Thank you! @yeshonestly4268 Comments like this are part of why I do this. I love inspiring others, especially in their art journey! Thank you for your sweet comment!
awwww...... bless you. You can't know how much comments like yours bless me. Often I'm exhausted after making these videos and your words are like a breath of fresh air.
You are the best teacher EVER! Thanks so much for this brilliant tutorial. It's helping me enormously to understand the way scenic wallpapers and backdrops are composed.
Im an artists and art teacher, in Uk, but find your videos really helpful to consolidate my own ideas and remind me of things we share as artists. Thanks and happy art making xx
Wow so helpful! you have such a clear way of teaching, and I like that you explain the WHYS of the “rules”, it helps me understand much better. I can easily get thrown off if I didn’t understand why things happen, so it’s much appreciated. 😂
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you skipping the jargon and getting right to the point. Finally I am starting to understand. The captions below also really helped. I was really pulling my hair out before I found your video.
GREAT video! The best discussion of creating depth in an art piece. I first learned about this about 40 years ago in a Watercolor magazine article. You’d think that in the intervening decades there would be more good info about creating depth. But to this day in many of the art forums, people show their “flat” art and ask the question: “What’s wrong with my painting?” It could be many things, but most of the time with landscape work it’s simply that they have not followed the rules of creating depth. This is great work. I’ll be posting a link to this video to help folks out. Best, Dan.
Thank you so much, Dan! I am so grateful for that positive comment, and I love being able to share simple techniques that can make such a huge difference in someone’s painting. Bless you and thanks again for such a wonderful comment.
You are an awesome instructor. I am glad I found you channel. This video took away many of my unknowns and frustration. Thank you. Much gratitude for a happy day, today.
I have watched soooo many videos and formal lessons on color theory and this is by far the best and easiest to comprehend. Everything makes sense as you explained it. Before I saw it more as rules of painting but this makes sense. I never ever write comments on RUclips videos but I had to do so here. Great lesson. Thank you
This was the first tutorial of your’s that I have followed . Your instructions were excellent! Easy to follow and you are fun to listen to. I have subscribed to your channel . Looking forward to more of your pastel tutorials, I typically paint with watercolours or acrylics . Cannot wait to try the alcohol washes that you demonstrated in a follow up video.
Thank you so much!! This is very confusing, but you simplified it so much that I feel I do have a better understanding!! Thank you for beginner lessons and details.
I wish you had been my art teacher at school .I might now be able to paint a picture! However, with your clear, inspirational lessons, I think I might be able to do that as I now understand what to do.Thank you so much.X
Love this video, thank you! I'm a self taught pyrography and charcoal artist but have wanted to try soft pastels. This explains and shows how the colours work together.
Dof depth of field came to mind watching this. So the camera analogy was good, but with say a wide angle lens for landscape, having a smaller aperture increases the depth of field. Another term I believe is aerial perspective.
Thank you for sharing this❤ you are an amazing teacher. As an artist, I always wonder why mountains in distance look blue, you clarified that today. Thank you
Sostenes Marquez Thank you so much! I find that artist often forget to break things down in a simplified manner. I also think this would be good for the age groups you mentioned.
I've never tried painting with acrylic before but I think I'm gonna try. I'm going for that LeRoy Neiman style. I don't know how he did it but his stuff is so good.
Thank you Susan as a long term teacher and lecturer albeit not in art but who after retiring took up Oils and WC painting plus a lot study or techniques as well, makes a very nice change to find on here a RUclipsr who know how to teach. As others have said on here very simple, clear and understandable instruction on one of the most basic skills that (also on here) so many artists are not able to put over.
This is the best example I’ve seen on how to create depth! I have a painting I don’t like that I painted for a friend. She loves it but I refuse to give it to her because I don’t love it. Somethings wrong! Well this it! My colors are the same and the sizes of the flowers in my painting are the same. I really hope I can fix it somehow or just do it over for her. Thanks for sharing your talents with us. You are an amazing teacher.
I appreciate that so much!! I hope to see it, if you do!! Come on over and share in the fun on my Patreon page!!!! www.patreon.com/susanjenkins Here, you can receive more content and share your work with likeminded people!! Happy painting, sweetheart!!
