You are a fantastic teacher/instructor I would love to see you on a weekly PBS series.
Wow. You're a great teacher (and a little funny). Thanks for the lesson. 👍
Bullseye. One of the most useful video on landscape painting ever.
You are right and a beautiful landscape
Awesome. So weird. I’m working on a painting that I needed a transparent mountain. Found you!! Thank you
Me too!
I love your passion when you explain things is so beautiful to watch. Thank you! Good night from Brazil!
You are right and a beautiful landscape
Wonderful! This answered my question about highlights on the distant mountains.
This video is exactly what I want to know about contrast, dept and how to use that colour mixing.. Thanks Kevin. This video really gave me a understanding and clear concept.
Atmospheric water vapor is diffusing the distant mountain clarity, and reduces the contrast.
Your explanations make a lot of sense.
I absolutely love your style & paintings. The explanations & brush strokes are so easy to follow. Just one request please try to do more acrylic lessons. Learning a lot from these videos! Thank you!
Wow! This is the video I've been looking for! Thanks for listening to my comment!
It all makes sense… I’m subscribing - Thank You Kevin!
Great info, and given in a way that's easy to remember.👍
May I ask if you could do the same for distance trees? This was so informative and helpful. Thank you.
You explain things so well and it’s a joy to watch you paint! 😄
This had some very useful tips, ty.
Thanks oh wise sage of the oily bristles..
That was some great video instructions my friend..
This is great. I learned much here. I'm so glad I discovered your channel this morning.
Please use acralic more.you, your arts and everything beautiful .very nice natural views
The reason blue is the color of distance has to do with the spectrum of light. Blue/purple light travels the farthest, so it is the prominent color that shows up at a distance.
This is the first of your videos that I have seen. I like your style of painting and your kind demeanor. I shall return for more videos.
Thank you .
Could we apply these notices on trees
Stunning yet precise demonstration of the "creation of distance" illusion through right colour, correct amount of contrast and just as needed sharpness. Wonderful! Thanks buddy.
Hey do you struggle sometimes with your painting? 🤔
Man how do you get your highlights to NOT blend with the underneath??
*Nice Tutorial-very informative* 👍
however the biggest challenge would be balancing background with foreground to comple the illusion of panoramic 3d view, Hope we see your next video with the mountains in background and running stream in forgound.👍
Can you also share how to make transparency with acrylics
Add water or glazing media perhaps?
Muchas gracias por explicar tan bien la técnica. Estaba necesitando esta lección. Saludos desde un muy muy lejano y montañoso Chile.
Learning a lot from your videos great job, 2 things I'm struggling with as a complete beginner is mixing the colours and knowing how much detail to use for background, mid and foreground, lots to learn but you inspire me to keep trying
This is deceptively difficult. Just can't get the paint colours right
Can you also paint with acrylic? Your tipps in oil does not allways work in acrylic. You are a fantastic artist I love all your paintings, you make it look so easy. Take care 😃🇸🇪 /Kristina
Can you fix the sharp Mt on the right after it is dry? Is it worth it?
I really like the painting you draw .These videos are really helpful ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️I'm also an artist and these paintings are my inspiration.....lots of love to you
Oh YAY!! I was needing this lesson. Thanks, Kevin.
Once again Simple isnt always "simple" to do haha
I promise it really is about the practice,. You get better by doing the best you can as often as you can, & you improve. When there’s something I’m having trouble with, I’ll do the best I can, then choose another subject to paint that has the same thing that challenged me in the last one, so I get more practice at it. A lot of it is muscle memory. That’s another quality you improve so thatbyou don’t have to think so much about it, & can paint quicker & with more confidence like Kevin does... but also imagine how long he’s been painting landscapes. You’ll get there😉
It's all in Tonal values.
If this is not made a priority nothing else works.
Can I apply this to acrylic painting
My favorite artist! Thank you for this video! I hope someday I could paint like you ☺
Very useful, thanks. Could you do a similar video on trees: how to paint a background forest, middle-ground group of trees and a foreground tree on top of each other so that they don't merge and are beautiful?
Kevin has done that in many of his paintings already
@@elbaz860 Yes, he has. He has also painted distant mountains many times, but viewers still find the above video, with its detailed and specific description and demonstration, useful; and might find a similar tree video equally useful. I know I would, as I still have problems with trees.
I have learned more from this short video than I have watching other longer ones.. bob ross and Kevin here... one thing I do have trouble with is the amount of paint I'm using and mixing the precise colour,,but hey I've only just started week ago...
Wonderful landscape tutorial, your explanation and lessons are so hellpful..🖼👍🎨
❤ thank you Master
Thanks for showing my Painting in this video. 4th one is mine 😂
Also pushing that mountain so far away lesson. Lesson learned 👍
Thank you so much Kevin.
Swapneel From India.
Me: **starts the video** "Ok this picture on the right looks nice in distance."
Kevin: "So, this is wrong, let me show you even better way."
Hi, what is clear gel?
This is called atmospheric perspective, and is the same for art, film and real world. Depth of field means the area in focus relative to the foreground and background being out of focus in photography. So the title should be 3 Secrets To Creating ATMOSPHERIC PERSPECTIVE In A Painting!
hi, how do you create DEPTH when painting a moonlight? you have black mountains, black sky and the moon..... thank you
Simple but not easy
That's oil paint, isn't it? The way they stayed wet so long that you could blend them
Yes, it is. The medium is actually in his channel name though.
Amazing..loved the way you highlighted on the mountains subtly..
Great video. Really easy to grasp.
So basically what's happening is atmospheric perspectivel right? A shift in the spectrum? Where in the further you move away reds and yellows fade and blues become more predominant at the background.
I observed this after looking at countless Thomas Kinkade paintings. His backgrounds of mountains, trees, and even distant waterfalls are usually very soft and pale. You just gave words and explanation to my observations that make it make sense!
You are right and a beautiful landscape
God willing, artist, God make you more progress and prosperity in all your work, artist. 👍👍👍🌷🌷🇪🇬🇪🇬
Hi! Can you specify which red, yellow and blue you are using? Thank you! This is my first video with you and I love it! Thank you!
Thanks a lot , I've been learning more from every video tutorial you share.
Another great demo-Kevin💖💛💚💙
Hii sir...iam from india.......iam big fan off you..you are great artist and inspiration for me..i see your all videos in RUclips ..thanku for the video sir..🙂..sir iam waiting for your message..so plz reply...
thank you...excelent class .YOU ARE THE BEST
I also don't know whether he comment you made about seeing the sky between the background and yourself is "scientifically correct" but, I can "see" what you're sayin' it's like. LOL ! Thank you for sharing this technique with us.
What kind of paint do you use? Where do you buy your supplies? Ex canvases, paint, brushes
Thanks,
Cassie
This is soo helpful
I enjoy watching your video
I know this video is a couple years old, but yes, your explanation of "seeing the sky" is scientifically accurate - if you think about how the answer to the question "why is the sky blue" is that the blue light is reflected by the atmosphere while the other colors are absorbed, what you're seeing between you and the mountain is the exact same reflection process at the same wavelength!
Also, the painting on the right hand side would be perfect for something like the eastern Sierra Nevada in California, where there's just these massively tall mountains looming so close to you that it feels like they literally take up more than half the sky on one side of the landscape.
Très belle représentation, c est super.!😀❤❤
Thanks so much. I learned a lot. 👏❤️
If I use acrylic could it be the same result at the end?
It would be a different technique because of the dry times. For acrylic I would try "Dry brush Blending" for most of the mountain. That would get you softer edges and a more misty look.
Very in depth and descriptive video. Sure it will help me and countless others in their paintings. Nicely done..
I'd asked you this on a different video of yours. But, I don't know if you've seen it yet. Sometime ago, you had sent me the email so I could order a CD by your brother who plays the guitar intro to your videos. Could you please let me know again what the site is? I'd like to order his CD, soon. I appreciate your help with this.
I think about it in terms of how our eyes work optically. The farther things are, we see less detail and color- things get fuzzy. The closer things are to our eyes, the more we see color, detail and the sharpness of what we are seeing
Bom dia, Kevin. Você parece muito com Van Gogh. Não corte a orelha, caso fique triste com alguém.
As a pro Disney Fine Artist, I'd love to see a video of how you arrive at how much detail you deside to put in any particular object. How much is to much and how do you balance that detail back to front so as to not overwork a scene and how yo control the viewers eye. Painters from the Renaissance Era were quite good at it. Great lesson Kevin, you're an exceptional teacher.
When I paint , when i think about detail, I go by a rule, the more detailed something is, the more accurate it needs to be. And normally anything more detailed are the things closet to you up in the fore front. For example, if I do a refection of a tree in water, if its a pond int he back ground, I just need to put in the general colors reflected into the water, no exact shapes like the tree itself, if I were to make the reflection like a mirror image with a lot of detail, it would immediately pull the reflection close up to the forefront, and it wouldnt look right.
Great tutorial Kevin. I really like how you did the mountain peaks. Thank you for sharing!
Hi Kevin! Thank you so much for all your great videos! I am new at painting. Have been drawing my whole life but haven't done much painting, so your videos really helps!
I am using acrylic paints, 'cause I like the fact that they dry fast.
I would love if you please, pretty please, could make a video of painting northern lights using acrylics, 'cause I'm really struggling with getting it to look right.
Always amazing tutorial Kevin
Amazing painting...really beautiful landscape....learned a lot about oil painting and techniques....Stay blessed Stay connected
you really threw me when you said anybody can paint the mountains? Lol :) Noooo!
I love your teachings, thanks for sharing.
How would you go about doing a winding river that narrows off ? Is it best to sort of turn the angle of the brush as I go ? I’m pretty stuck on the piece I’m working on
And your calm hushed tone, almost like you're filming these episodes either the back of someone's house or business without
Was struggling with this technique and you explained in a way that made sense to me. Thank you so much for giving me my confidence back! I absolutely am obsessed with your work. They are all so beautiful
Kevin, thank you for making this video. You explain it very well and I'm going to find this very helpful in my oil painting adventures.

Awesome demo Kevin! Thank you so much
Excellent demo. Thank you.
Thank you! Been needing this skill -knowledge to use.
Kevin, love your channel/videos. I was wondering if you could make a video explaining how to highlight clouds. I understand how to make clouds, but highlighting them is another story. Especially say, clouds that wrap around like in a semi-circle. Maybe its just me, but I cant grasp the highlight part of "good" clouds.
Check out his many videos first, you'll find your answer
