I don't think it can be stressed enough that John and Arthur are by all accounts, brothers. They were both taken in young and raised together by Dutch and Hosea. It's why Arthur was mad at John for leaving, but also hellbent on getting him out of the gang to live a fullfilling life. They were genuine brothers and it's easy to understand that John and Arthur had the strongest bond.
Yeah 💯 I can see why he seemed mad about John in chapter 1 and 2 especially Abigail asking Arthur to rescue John in prologue and Abigail knew how hurt Arthur is inside still about John leaving the gang. ❤😢😢I know rdr1 came out in 2010 I feel if they remake the game they properly would add more dialogues for John talking about Arthur ❤❤❤
He was also mad at John for leaving bc Arthur once had a family of his own, and it wasn’t his own choice to lose his family. So he doesn’t want John to ruin the opportunity he never really had.
Another huge thing Charles contributes is that he actually buries Arthur and Mrs Grimshaw on a beautiful hill and sees them off properly. Charles was always the most selfless out of all of them and while John was Arthur's brother, Charles was by far his best friend. He was also one of the few that Arthur could stand to open up about his illness to toward the end.
I found their conversation about Arthurs impending death so wholesome. When they go to save Eagle Flies and Charles says that knowing your going to die is a gift in a way. And that he should try to right his wrongs before he passes.
A few issues with a Charles game is they’ll ether have to try to work around the honor system for Charles or get rid of it since he doesn’t seem like a heartless monster who kills people. Also what would his game even be about? His back story seems the only logical answer as I doubt anything special could or did happen in Canada during the early 1900s, idk much about history but I don’t know if Canada got involved with WW1.
@@GDKF0238 they verbally called him racial slurs but he didn’t even care, the reason he killed them was cuz they were poachers. He’s absolutely a chad. I too recently found out people didn’t like him 💀 I thought he was one the characters who were impossible to hate.
I agree with the Micah ranking because he was designed for everyone to hate him and even his own actor said he hated himself, he is such a well-written character
Uncle is extremely underrated as a character and actually one of my favorite gang members. If you spend time in camp and listen to him talk it becomes pretty clear the happy drunk thing is just an act and he had a really traumatic childhood. Also, he confronts both Micah and Dutch on their bullshit. I love Uncle. Dude is also just straight up hilarious.
I love uncle aswell he's my favorite parasite no wait ringworms my favorite parasite he's my secound favorite parasite crap I lied ringworm then rats with the plauge then him
Molly was a lazy swine but given where she was from before the gang it's easy to understand, she only joined out of love for Dutch and he used and abused her until she was murdered as a direct result of his coldness towards her.
What I like about javier in chapter 6 is when everyone was pointing guns at John and Arthur, he aimed his up in the sky showing that he didn't want to shoot
It's even better when you consider that scene was performance capture, I remember somewhere the actor saying how he didn't believe Javier would actually turn on Arthur
You actually can find out what happens to Trelawny. As John, while wondering Saint Denis, you can come across one of the, what I like to call, Interaction Blips (the little white dot that indicates an interaction). If you approach it, you are lead to the doorstep of an apartment, and if you listen, you can hear Trelawny speaking to his wife and talk to him a little.
I felt bad for Karen, she went off the deep end after Sean's death with an increasingly worse drinking habit and it seems like no one gave an effort to help her, only for her to be implied dead from her drinking habit in an offhand dialogue.
She could be alive. That would be a huge plot twist. I think I’ve seen a video showing dialogue between two men at the saloon talking about a blonde woman. Even though there’s no evidence to support it, I still would think that it would be cool to see her.
i also like Sadie because it's believed that she was aware that Arthur was ill and looked out for him in the last missions of chapter 6 plus i like Sadie because she's such a good character throughout the game and i get a laugh out of her when she reads out Pearson's letter in the first mission of chapter 3
Yeah she is my favorite overall. Charles and Arthur are right there, but the thing I like about her is that she cleaned herself up and used the pain and anguish to help the gang while as mentioned avenging her husband’s death. She was wild yes, but you cant say she never got the job done. She was loyal to the end to Arthur and the Marstons.
The main problem with Sadie though is that she gets a happy ending when literally nobody else from the main gang does (Besides Charles who was morally the best). Pretty much everyone else dies violently but Sadie, whose entire arc the main game was about revenge, literally “a fools game”, gets to ride off into the sunset for some reason.
My theory on Micah's rat-ness: I don't think he was working for the Pinkertons at first. I think he was working with the O'Driscolls. The frequency of Micah missions involving sudden O'Driscoll encounters is just too high to ignore. Note: I don't think Micah was loyal to the O'Driscolls. I think he played both gangs against each other for his own personal benefit. When the Feds and Pinkertons break up the O'Driscolls, they pick up any desperate member they can as an asset to use against other gangs, and that includes Micah Bell.
But that wouldn't be necessary for Micah colm and Dutch always fight over scores or whatever so spending time making both of them fight eachother wouldn't work and since Micah is always with Dutch colm would of shot him on sight
@@zmpjacksoncomics2077 I think micah was more worried about Arthur at that point. He wanted Arthur's spot in the gang and he himself couldn't kill him because, well I doubt he even could take a healthy Arthur, but also because the gang would out and kill him. If he sold Arthur to Colm I'm sure the deal would be no shooting each other while they get the jump on Arthur who's position Micah leaked.
That makes the art of him a lot more interesting than. The way he points the guns both sides could be a metaphor for how he's playing against both sides
Charles is pretty much the one guy who never second-guessed Arthur a single time. Every single time Arthur looks for help doing a mission, Charles is always immediately saying “I’m going with you.” The only time I ever saw Charles kill someone out of anger was during an optional hunting trip where he went into outrage upon finding out two men had been slaughtering buffalo for no good reason and leaving the meat to rot. His ultimate respect for animals, Mother Nature, and Native Americans above all else (an arc that was really needed considering the period in US history that RDR2 is set) really just makes him a flawless person in my eyes. And his appearance in the epilogue to assist John does him a big favor as well.
I absolutely agree with your theory about Micah. So he was responsible for the deaths of Jenny, Davey, Mac, Hosea, Lenny, Molly, Cain, Susan, Arthur, Joe, Cleet, himself, Bill, Javier, Dutch, John and Uncle.
I feel like Molly figured out something fishy was going on with Micah when she was talking to Arthur in chapter 3 before Uncle interrupted their conversation.
Lenny had the potential to become a legendary gunslinger himself. He was smart, willing to learn, very mature for his young age, had great work ethics and was extremely loyal.
I love Micah because he’s a terrible person, but doesn’t seem cartoonishly evil. He only kills if it benefits them, always has motivations, and while those motivations are bad most of the time, he still doesn’t kill just for fun
Bro that’s just not true, he murdered a dog and also literally murdered a small child, that’s why Cleet was banished from Micah’s presence, cause he tried to stop Micah from murdering a child
I think Mary-Beth really deserves a higher ranking. Even if she doesn’t make that many appearances, she is responsible for perhaps the most wholesome moment in the whole game (yes, more wholesome than hugging Mickey). During the gang’s overnight party that’s thrown upon the successful rescue of Sean, Dutch turns on some classical music and begins dancing with Molly. If you go over to watch them, Mary-Beth approaches you and asks to dance with you. That couple of minutes after hitting “Accept” where Arthur and Mary-Beth sway in the moonlight alongside Dutch and Molly was just so beautiful it almost brought me to tears. I would replay the whole game just to experience it again.
@@NaraNom he doesn't steal money but he steals stuff like a rings, jewels and pocket watches, you don't notice unless you're paying attention to what inventory you have
That is a W list. I'd maybe put kieran a bit higher, and miss grimshaw too. She sided with Arthur in the last mission of Arthur's story, and that was really great of her. She didn't have much screen time, but that one choice proofs she was loyal to Arthur more than anyone. Her death was so quick and random, she deserved a bit better
I don't know why, but this video made me cry, thinking about the whole game, and the characters and their personalities. The loss and the love in the game was just so heartbreaking but most of it went by too fast to really sink in until you really sat and thought about it.
The thing is that for me, Sadie is top 5 at the bottom of the list. Sadie spent the whole game trying to avenge her husband and she avanged him. The thing is, the point of the game (the themes, all of that) is that “Revenge is a fools game” or something like that, Sadie got her revenge and proceeded to ride into the sun in the epilogue. It’s just felt weird why rockstar did only one character that is a total opposite of the main theme of the game.
She had her life ripped apart and only wanted revenge on the people who did it to her. She was the only member of the gang I remember who wasn't "bad" just to be bad. Everyone else's motivation was just to be rich. Sadie wasn't concerned with that. She just wanted to right the wrongs done to her. I think her surviving makes sense.
But didn't Sadie describe herself as "a monster"? It's not like she got off scott free. She's ruined in a sense, completely different from what she was probably like before. You can die/change in more ways than just physically.
@@Frredster so that lets her take what she pleases, kill whom she pleases and hang the rest of us? who made her the messiah to these lost souls on the internet she has led so horribly astray?
Something my dad brought up after playing this game was how Arthur gave Tilly all of his money to give to John and Abigail, but no matter how much money Arthur has, John and Abigail always end up on the cheap little farm in the middle of nowhere, and he's convinced that Tilly ran off with the money and her marrying the dentist is just her lying about how she got all fancy.
@@admilzAbigail mentioned how she was tired of how they had to keep relocating so maybe they had another Blackwater moment where they had to run and leave their money behind.
I'm with you on the ending. I've played through it 6 times now, and every time I always help John, and have high honor. I can't bring myself to get any other ending. It just doesn't feel right.
like the way this youtuber explains arthurs arc just seems black and white.... wow just another standard redemption story compared to something like low honor
well low honor to high honor certainly works for the story... i did this exact thing for my 1st playthrough but after I did a whole low honor playthrough, certain scenes and the last ride to the gangs hideout work so well for the low honor version that majority of high honor players agree that the low honor last ride version is the best because of the tone, scenery and quotes plus with playing low honor and still helping rains fall is so fucking good because you really need to try and maintain a balance for you not to go overboard with high honor and to maintain that, you'd kill bounty hunters (including the dogs because I feel like arthur wouldn't give a shit about killing dogs after his own died especially since he has voicelines for killing dogs as well as horses) and bystanders who threaten you for whatever the reasons is.... Arthur can still achieve redemption by doing these things that I mentioned to maintain low honor.... look at kratos or dante from the divine comedy game adaptation.... both kratos and dante are sick bastards who achieve redemption (at least for dante in the end since kratos' is a bit too complicated for kratos achieving redemption in his younger ghost of sparta days) but the methods that they use are still morally grey with dante in admist of his redemption r3pes cleopatra as the final killing blow because shes a sex demon now this isn't to say that arthur could r3pe someone in his path for redemption because no that's not possible but the concept of doing fucked up things like with arthur killing a bounty hunter dog, killing horses and killing bystanders can still bring redemption to arthur at that stage of his life.... its the same thing with Altair from AC1 where his whole mission in that game is to redeem himself through killing 9 templar targets because he was a bad person at the start of the game yet altair still kills ppl ruthlessly after he interrogates someone whos involved with a templar that he's hunting even though he could be innocent yet altair still kills him because he doesn't want to leave loose ends yet he's on a path to redemption through killing 9 templars
rockstar definitely makes some of the best depictions of how humanity works and they perfected it in manhunt and when i see someone glorifying arthur as a good person and how ppl felt like a close friend just died... it rubs me the wrong way because arthur isn't supposed to be like that and certainly rockstar didn't entirely intend to do that for arthur especially with how rockstar introduced him in the 2nd trailer of RDR2 where that trailer is supposed to be the introduction of Arthur Morgan
plus I don't understand why ppl don't get that the honor system isn't like a morality system from something like inFAMOUS but its simply made for how honorable arthur is and not how good or bad he is.... Arthur is still a bad person with whatever his honor level is
We shouldnt forget about what Charles says about Strauss in the epilogue. He said the Pinkertons tortured him but he didnt say a word until he got killed. That shows his loyalty and i dont think he is a hateable character at all. Sure he is no angel, not even a good person but where is the love for our austrian friend?
@@lukefitton7329 half the gang members murder and rob people. Strauss just lends money to people who he knows wont be able to pay him back so the gang makes profit is not an evil thing in this world
Agreed he was just like the rest in fact more outside the circle but still contributed with the gang even if he like he didn’t belong. In addition he kept his mouth closed after being kicked embarrassingly in front on everyone. This moment even made me hate Arthur thinking he could judge wrongs in gang of outlaws😂 like this is the point
I love Charles for his temper, like when he throws Micah to the ground for his racism in a fit of rage, or when he starts getting quite mad with Eagle Flies for not listening to his father.
i mean they’re poachers. they were being racist and killing those bison (which are very important to charles) for no reason. he had a reason to be mad.
Micah didn't inadvertently start the events of the original game. There was a reason the Pinkertons were right there after the finale events - Micah was always the rat and he never stopped being the rat. The Pinkertons were using him to get to Dutch just like they eventually used John.
I wish Lenny got more action in rdr2. I first got hooked to Lenny when Arthur and him went to the valentine saloon and got super drunk, which shows Arthur and Lenny bond. I always looked forward doing missions with him and his personality and friendship with Arthur really makes me happy. Him getting shot during the robbery truly got me sad…
I think is is actually a very agreeable list. Man when I first played RDR2, the first thing that popped into my head was Sadie was gonna be arthurs love interest. I feel like they shared good chemistry. And I swear if you go with Sadie to hanging dog, there only one bed...
Strauss was hardly the worst character. He was very helpful on the riverboat gambling mission and he was just doing his job helping the gang get money his own way. Everyone else in the gang murdered and robbed but Strauss kept it clean.
Exactly, the group, especially Arthur actually enabled him to do his thing. Then Arthur turned on him when he was feeling guilty. That's the only part of Arthur's story I didn't like.
I really loved chapter 3. I waited a long time before progressing. I named my horse after Shaun. He was one of my favorite characters. I wish we saw him throughout the whole game.😢
Putting Dutch so low is absolutely crazy. He’s probably the most well written character in video game history. The only one you could even make an argument for being above him is Arthur. Below them two probably John
The whole list is whacky, because it's a weird combination of how useful they are but also how much he likes them. Inside the camp some characters like pearson and grimshaw are absolutely vital to the camp's success. Sadie has a ton of questionable and impulse driven decisions, she's just up there because she gets a lot of attention near the end.
I think Arthur's illness is an allegory for the slow and painful death of the Wild West. Someone else has probably considered this. I just find it crazy how literally every facet of the story ties back to that theme. The writing of this game truly is absurdly good.
@davidbrow3086 not really if you think about it for more than two seconds. Edit: "That aforementioned slow and steady pace that Red Dead Redemption 2's gameplay and narrative evoke is perhaps the most subtle nod to the Wild West's death. Cowboys and outlaws didn't just disappear over night, rather it was a slow and steady burn that eventually consumed outlaws altogether. The dismantling of Dutch's gang, and even on a more visceral level with Arthur's disease, shows that the death of the Wild West was an always encroaching inevitability." -game rant It's totally a crazy reach, right? I mean, I said I wasn't the first to consider this. I just didn't care to elaborate.
I also have the same list basically, I also put Arthur in 1st place, at the time of his life, 1899 to his death, he has some of the best character development of any character, videogame or not. I actually feel a connection when I go back and play, the really made a masterpiece with this game, I would've actually enjoy it if it was a bit longer, some people wouldn't want it any different but the more the merrier. Excellent video, I just started playing the story for the second time ever since 2018, it's so much different when it's your second time 😊
for the record, molly didn't rat out the gang, she was just drunk and suicidal. when you confront milton he says as much, and makes it clear micah was the only one feeding the pinkertons information.
One thing you missed about Trelawny is that we actually can infer what happens to him. It’s revealed in a secret interaction in Saint Dennis that he has a happy family and several kids, so we can assume that he left to go be with them and got a happy ending. One of the best endings of the entire gang in fact.
Rearranging the top 5, the right way: 5:Sadie Caused too much chaos but wasn’t blind like the rest of the gunslingers 4:Hosea (If he didn’t die early I would put him third) 3:John (If we didnt play with him in the epilogue he’d be 4th 2:Charles 1:Arthur
I feel kinda bad for Molly, she got really screwed over by Dutch. You could say her death was more of a suicide, because she shouted: „Shoot me! SHOOT ME!” Kinda sad
7:19 when you do the very first bounty mission with Arthur. Sheriff Malloy says you don’t catch a sinner with a saint and I think that subliminally explains Micah’s relationship with the pinkertons, Micah himself is a hot-head and a loose cannon
Arthur's story arc is heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. Watching him slowly degrade and become a shell of himself is tough to watch, but seeing his personality develop into someone who just wants to leave the world a better place for the people he cares about before he goes is wonderful. Unfortunately his biggest mistake was believing that he could still save Dutch somehow until it was far too late, there's a real late convo like right before the last mission or so where Grimshaw says she knows Arthur will save Dutch and Arthur says he'll surely try. Dutch was unsaveable long before then though.
Another detail about Jaivier that you forgot to mention is at 6:30 you can see Jaivier isn’t pointing his revolver at John and Arthur because he still sees them as brothers and while he remained loyal to dutch it’s imaginable that he didn’t join the chase sequence in the last mission and slipped away most likely away from the pinkertons
The downfall of Arthur’s character is a lesson in how to masterfully and damn near perfectly write a tragedy. Not only does his character’s downfall contribute very heavily into the story’s themes of how one must be a good person in order to have a good life. Arthur says this himself. One of the best ways that Rockstar uses Arthur’s actions to develop the themes is by blurring the line between metaphorical and literal. When Arthur agrees to help Strauss collect Downes’s debt, he beats Downes relentlessly until Downes coughs blood on him. This blood leads to him contracting TB, which likely weakens him in his final fight against Micah. The tuberculosis which plays a key role in his death is a direct result of Arthur’s violent actions. There is both literal and metaphorical blood on his hands as Downes later dies due to his injuries and illness. And when he gets TB he becomes more charitable and tries to redeem himself. This, however still doesn’t work or cure his disease and no matter how hard he tries he knows he can’t fix everything and the only way he could erase these consequences was by never being such a violent person. That right there is how you write a tragic character
Javier actually points his gun up in the end instead of at Arthur and John just to show he knew what was happening but if he sided with John and Arthur he would have likely been attacked
@@darlingxluxii7977 Technically he dies for nothing either way - John makes it out even if Arthur doesn’t help him and goes back for the money instead.
I love how Javier kept his gun pointing to the sky instead of pointing it at Authur and John, yes he chose Dutch and Micha but he never pointed the weapon in their face..
I actually really like Trelawny, I think he had some of the most fun missions and I like how he’s one of the few ‘members’ of the gang that managed to escape and live a normal life
Sean should get his own DLC, or a DLC where you make your own gang. Recruiting people by doing their missions, upgrading camp, getting people to donate, donating to the camp, ect.
I agree mostly, I'd have put Micah uü higher though. After all, he is a character that grows to become the main antagonist and turning-point of an entire gang. And yes, Hosea was the heart and the brain of the entire gang and if he hadn't died, had been more clear with Dutch, then the gang wouldn't have collapsed. I think Hosea would've seen through Micah sooner rather than later. And Hosea would also likely have had the guts to tell Dutch to get rid of that snake.
Well Gordon, a perfect choice great video good work assessment from all characters, Personally I loved Arthur Morgan, first time I played the game and my buddy Arthur dies I cried a lot, that is the impact Arthur Morgan has on the player, I could not have believed that RockStar games could produce a video game with so much love and understanding, finally like the sane minded folk who have played this game Mica Bell is so despicable Rockstar knows what impact Mica Bell would have on the players, the last thing I thought RockStar games missed was that Arthur Morgan has been with the gang for 20 years Mica Bell 6 months the respect value was always missing towards Arthur Morgan from Mica Bell.
I agree with your list. But with micah. He didn't work with the pinkertons until he got back from guarma. When you save abligail milltin says that they got a hold on micah bell and micah bell talked alot. So he was the real reason of dutches down fall. Micah had to say the right things to dutch and get into him witch worked. By the end of the store with author morgan. Dutch believed author oh what he was sayimg but he didn't want to side with him because He knew if he did he would have died. So he had no choice to side with micah. Also when micah says author has been dead a long time dutch remembers him and realized that now he can get his revenge so he shoots micah. This is just my thiery. If you like it let me know.
trewalny is def top 10 characters, i loved that man no way u put him so low, he had so many good plans and despite his leaving and coming back he always had something for the gang
Its crazy how this games makes you feel like youre into it, and how you can actually feel and know what goes through arthur minds literally just by the way the things happen and how the characters develop, i remember my first playthrough in this masterpiece, and since im such a completionist, i really wanted to do everything before finishing the game, and to do so i had to rob 5 trains without dying, i simply COULD NOT do it, by the fact that i knew arthur didn't wanted to do it, felt how hard the way he seeked redemption of everything he had done for the past 20-25 years and only had a couple of weeks to redeem himself, can't deny with you that Arthur is one greatest videogame protagonist of all time
It’s commonly known that Arthur and Sadie were originally meant to be shipped. But it was changed for the better. No doubt they were made for each other, at the same time their missions portray them like siblings. It wouldn’t feel right with Sadie falling in love with Arthur soon after her husband’s death and the O’Driscolls still being on her kill list. I can only imagine they would ship if Arthur survived Chapter 6. But storywise, it’s better they didn’t.
I like how you pointed out Micah is somewhat likable in the first couple of chapters because I agree he’s obviously a bad person but his wild personality and ruthless nature make him somewhat enjoyable on missions if you lean towards villains I think the main thing that makes me like Micah is despite the fact he is completely unredeemable and seems to be a completely bottomless evil I like the fact rockstar didn’t make him a sniveling coward like Colm or Bronte he will kill you and face death head on
I think John honestly should’ve been number 1. I love Arthur, but I think John had the best development. Not only do we get the story of his beginning, but we also learn so much more about him as we find out that he tried to leave the gang and better his life beforehand. And if we’re being honest, I think he taught Arthur a few things as well, like learning how to forgive and be a family man. He’s also not as brutal as Arthur is. He will do anything to protect his wife and son and don’t even get me started on the events of RDR1, as we see him rescuing and helping multiple people, his family dynamic and his tragic, undeserving and untimely death which was also a sacrifice to save his family.
I agree Micah was a nogoodnik from the start if not a Pinkerton plant then a rival gang..I like the comment above suggesting him being an odriscol. Well made list I would put Micah probably in the top 5. I can’t think of many antagonists I’ve come across in this game or others (any genre really) that had me detest an individual character.
In chapter 6 when the stand off between Dutch/the most of the gang and Arthur and John you can see Javier not pointing his revolver at Arthur an John. I think he was just scared of what Dutch would’ve done to them if he did help.
She gets Aturo killed, sets up John's demise, and forces a dying man to raid a gang hideout. She's just a female Micah. Who's only liked because she hates the same people we do.
I recently finished RDR2 for the first time, and when Arthur died, I was absolutely sobbing. Once the epilogue started, I went outside and looked at the stars, wondering if Arthur really deserved it. When he died, it felt like I had lost my best friend.
Id put sadie at the near bottom if not the bottom of that list, poorly written character thats shoved down our throats to make her seem like a badass. A clear definition of a mary sue. And before you think im a person that hate women, i actually liked black belle, now she was a bad ass. But that my opinion.
I can definitely understand that point of view. That's the beauty of these type of lists, everyone has their opinion and it makes for a good discussion
I agree tbh I’d put Grimshaw, Abigail, and MB wayyy higher than Sadie when it comes to being good characters. Hell even Molly has a better story than Sadie.
A thing I absolutely LOVE about red dead 1 is after red dead 2 hearin all that talk about the black water massacre I kind of brushed it off and was it wasn’t that bad but there’s a mission in red dead 1 when that ferry in the black water massacre was fucking capsized like wat happend on that boat it’s so mysterious I love it
Red Dead Redemption 2 is the only game to ever make me cry, and boy did I sob. Everything about Arthur's story and character was just so touching and beautifully tragic. My favorite moments from him are probably the side missions where he helps Mrs Downes and her son. It perfectly demonstrates the kind of man that Arthur became after facing death, abandoning any care for himself for the sake of the people he'd wronged and the people he loved. He truly took the idea to heart that he shouldn't ask for forgiveness, but try to help however he can anyway.
I mean. Arthur is an absolute psychopath, an unhunched lunatic and killing machine, a walking slaughter fest, he has a higher kill count than Genghis Khan and has committed crimes on such a large scale that I don't think any sentence is severe enough and he has committed enough animal abuse to put pita into a damn coma till the next century. If he doesn't deserve a good ending idk who does.
Don't put Strauss at the bottom. He took torture on the chin all the way to death. Didn't talk. Maybe he didn't fit the outlaw ethos, but in his capacity he helped further the gang's interests where he could. And I give Charles the edge over Sadie. He was arguably the most lethal yet strangely the most moral.
I know I'm late but in the last chapter when Dutch tells everyone to pick a side Javier is the only to point his gun in the air, instead of at Arthur and John like everyone else on the opposite side.
Finally someone who sees past the delusion of "Micah bad, Micah villain, therefore bottom of ranking bc bad person=bad character". However, Micah would easily rank in my top 5, personally. Sadie on the other hand is in the bottom 5 for me.
In chapter 3 you can see mrs grimshaw talking to Martha beth telling her if heaven exists and turns out mrs grimshaw had a husband who sadly died maybe that's why she always mad
I don't think it can be stressed enough that John and Arthur are by all accounts, brothers. They were both taken in young and raised together by Dutch and Hosea. It's why Arthur was mad at John for leaving, but also hellbent on getting him out of the gang to live a fullfilling life.
Hoseas death hurt Dutch the most
I wish that bond was shown more in the game
John went to prison rescued by Arthur duch is mad so duch hates John
Another huge thing Charles contributes is that he actually buries Arthur and Mrs Grimshaw on a beautiful hill and sees them off properly. Charles was always the most selfless out of all of them and while John was Arthur's brother, Charles was by far his best friend. He was also one of the few that Arthur could stand to open up about his illness to toward the end.

It also can happen with Arthur
It can happen with Arthur and it also does not have a blip on the map, you just find and hear it or don’t
I felt bad for Karen, she went off the deep end after Sean's death with an increasingly worse drinking habit and it seems like no one gave an effort to help her, only for her to be implied dead from her drinking habit in an offhand dialogue.
What was the offhand dialogue and when did it occur?
I don’t think they had alcohol anonymous (AA) meetings back in 1899
@@Yazzieeee Tilly's letter to John in epilogue
She could be alive. That would be a huge plot twist. I think I’ve seen a video showing dialogue between two men at the saloon talking about a blonde woman. Even though there’s no evidence to support it, I still would think that it would be cool to see her.
@@CrowBandit You can find her grave somewhere.
i also like Sadie because it's believed that she was aware that Arthur was ill and looked out for him in the last missions of chapter 6 plus i like Sadie because she's such a good character throughout the game and i get a laugh out of her when she reads out Pearson's letter in the first mission of chapter 3
@@ArjunB5 maybe she was just that good lol
@@morethanmeetstheeye0 that makes no sense it goes completely against the message and themes of the series
@@ArjunB5 I don’t see why it matters that much
My theory on Micah's rat-ness: I don't think he was working for the Pinkertons at first.
Interesting 🤔 I’m sure we would have seen notes involving Micah communication with Colm or something
He literally kills a fuck ton of them, he literally shot one in the face right after Arthur rescued him from jail.
Charles is pretty much the one guy who never second-guessed Arthur a single time. Every single time Arthur looks for help doing a mission, Charles is always immediately saying “I’m going with you.”
The only time I ever saw Charles kill someone out of anger was during an optional hunting trip where he went into outrage upon finding out two men had been slaughtering buffalo for no good reason and leaving the meat to rot.
He wanted to see the downfall of the gang 😭
Bro killed the camp dog 😭😭😭
not for Arthur as Arthur was already sick he would have died anyways
you forgot yourself
@@Revix_DBH I already wrote it.
He killed a dog bro
Me when I cap for no reason
Bro that’s just not true, he murdered a dog and also literally murdered a small child, that’s why Cleet was banished from Micah’s presence, cause he tried to stop Micah from murdering a child
How about killing his friends for some guns or needlessly killing his cell mate
@@gottiesttyrant5528 He was an O'DRISCOLL

Thank you for your comment. RDR2 is a beautiful game
I think Micah had ulterior motive to turn on the gang earlier too. Mostly because he has Dutch's wanted poster in his camp outside Strawberry.
It was a very old poster though, which only has a $500 reward.
Arthur's bounty is $5k so surely Dutch's bounty is higher than Arthur's.
@@imlivingunderyourbed7845wait a sec... Micah could've been out to destroy the gang so he could claim all the bounty money...
Jack got his revenge for his father in the end and didnt get punish for that.

I'm with you on the ending. I've played through it 6 times now, and every time I always help John, and have high honor. I can't bring myself to get any other ending. It just doesn't feel right.
oh ffs... i give up with the rdr2 community... its all the same and a never ending cycle
like the way this youtuber explains arthurs arc just seems black and white.... wow just another standard redemption story compared to something like low honor
well low honor to high honor certainly works for the story... i did this exact thing for my 1st playthrough but after I did a whole low honor playthrough, certain scenes and the last ride to the gangs hideout work so well for the low honor version that majority of high honor players agree that the low honor last ride version is the best because of the tone, scenery and quotes plus with playing low honor and still helping rains fall is so fucking good because you really need to try and maintain a balance for you not to go overboard with high honor and to maintain that, you'd kill bounty hunters (including the dogs because I feel like arthur wouldn't give a shit about killing dogs after his own died especially since he has voicelines for killing dogs as well as horses) and bystanders who threaten you for whatever the reasons is....
Arthur is still a bad person with whatever his honor level is
I love how sadie goes from doing nothing in the first chapters to an absolute badass
The thing is sadie was fueld by revenge which goes against the story entirely. Kinda boring as that's all she is as a character as well
We shouldnt forget about what Charles says about Strauss in the epilogue. He said the Pinkertons tortured him but he didnt say a word until he got killed. That shows his loyalty and i dont think he is a hateable character at all. Sure he is no angel, not even a good person but where is the love for our austrian friend?
True and as much as I understand Arthur’s decision to kick him out, people like Micah who was in the group made Strauss look like a saint.

In addition he kept his mouth closed after being kicked embarrassingly in front on everyone. This moment even made me hate Arthur thinking he could judge wrongs in gang of outlaws😂 like this is the point

The mfs who killed a couple of bisons:
I love Charles for his temper, like when he throws Micah to the ground for his racism in a fit of rage, or when he starts getting quite mad with Eagle Flies for not listening to his father.
😂
i mean they’re poachers. they were being racist and killing those bison (which are very important to charles) for no reason. he had a reason to be mad.
Same, I even told myself that Lenny was my favorite character
I think is is actually a very agreeable list. Man when I first played RDR2, the first thing that popped into my head was Sadie was gonna be arthurs love interest. I feel like they shared good chemistry. And I swear if you go with Sadie to hanging dog, there only one bed...
Lol omg yes 😂😂😂❤
I heard she was gonna be, but actual love interest was Eliza and Mary linton 💯💕🌸
Nah they got more of a sibling relationship - reminds me a lot of my relationship with my male friends
Strauss was hardly the worst character. He was very helpful on the riverboat gambling mission and he was just doing his job helping the gang get money his own way.
Everyone else in the gang murdered and robbed but Strauss kept it clean.
Facts, he ruined lives but the gang took lives
Exactly, the group, especially Arthur actually enabled him to do his thing. Then Arthur turned on him when he was feeling guilty. That's the only part of Arthur's story I didn't like.
@@ironicly__iconic you’re not wrong. when arthur kicks strauss out i feel like it’s more from arthur’s own guilt and regret.

Too true! I think we can all agree that the worst spot goes to Micah!
I really loved chapter 3. I waited a long time before progressing. I named my horse after Shaun. He was one of my favorite characters. I wish we saw him throughout the whole game.😢
Putting micah so high on the list isnt a bad choice at all, he's a great character and does what he's supposed to do very well
Putting Dutch so low is absolutely crazy.
As much as I agree, he's also a dick and a manipulative control freak, but yes written very well.

I think Arthur's illness is an allegory for the slow and painful death of the Wild West. Someone else has probably considered this. I just find it crazy how literally every facet of the story ties back to that theme. The writing of this game truly is absurdly good.
Crazy reach
@davidbrow3086 not really if you think about it for more than two seconds.
Edit: "That aforementioned slow and steady pace that Red Dead Redemption 2's gameplay and narrative evoke is perhaps the most subtle nod to the Wild West's death. Cowboys and outlaws didn't just disappear over night, rather it was a slow and steady burn that eventually consumed outlaws altogether. The dismantling of Dutch's gang, and even on a more visceral level with Arthur's disease, shows that the death of the Wild West was an always encroaching inevitability." -game rant
It's totally a crazy reach, right?
I just started playing the Game. Man RDR2 is a masterpiece.
That was the perfect ranking
I think Micah and Dutch must be a bit higher for their effect on the story
Sadie’s too high honestly she isn’t top 5

I slightly preferred Sean to Lenny as far as the younger characters go but they were both awesome and likeable.
One thing you missed about Trelawny is that we actually can infer what happens to him. It’s revealed in a secret interaction in Saint Dennis that he has a happy family and several kids, so we can assume that he left to go be with them and got a happy ending. One of the best endings of the entire gang in fact.
The chelonian music really helps this video and I don’t know why
Rearranging the top 5, the right way:
5:Sadie Caused too much chaos but wasn’t blind like the rest of the gunslingers
4:Hosea (If he didn’t die early I would put him third)
3:John (If we didnt play with him in the epilogue he’d be 4th
2:Charles
1:Arthur
I feel kinda bad for Molly, she got really screwed over by Dutch.
You could say her death was more of a suicide, because she shouted: „Shoot me! SHOOT ME!”
Kinda sad
Sadie is also inadvertently responsible for the events of rdr1
As without her digging to find Micah, John would’ve likely never been out to get him
Another detail about Jaivier that you forgot to mention is at 6:30 you can see Jaivier isn’t pointing his revolver at John and Arthur because he still sees them as brothers and while he remained loyal to dutch it’s imaginable that he didn’t join the chase sequence in the last mission and slipped away most likely away from the pinkertons
He aimed at Arthur when the screen cuts back to him a few seconds later
Another detail u missed is he aimed his gun back at Arthur
If my memory is correct he's also the one that points out that the Pinkertons are on the way, maybe he was trying to break up the standoff?
I have Dutch at 1. His character is masterfully written

I like how you pointed out Micah is somewhat likable in the first couple of chapters because I agree he’s obviously a bad person but his wild personality and ruthless nature make him somewhat enjoyable on missions if you lean towards villains
I think the main thing that makes me like Micah is despite the fact he is completely unredeemable and seems to be a completely bottomless evil I like the fact rockstar didn’t make him a sniveling coward like Colm or Bronte he will kill you and face death head on
I think John honestly should’ve been number 1.
So true about micah.
Fuck micah
@@ReklessStandard so you want to start an argument?
The emotional connection with Arthur is insane. That virtual character made me cry.
Am I the only person that actually like Strauss?
In chapter 6 when the stand off between Dutch/the most of the gang and Arthur and John you can see Javier not pointing his revolver at Arthur an John. I think he was just scared of what Dutch would’ve done to them if he did help.
Sadie deserves to be in the top 3 since she proof to the other members that Girls Can also be apart of something big
She gets Aturo killed, sets up John's demise, and forces a dying man to raid a gang hideout. She's just a female Micah. Who's only liked because she hates the same people we do.
Woah, someone not just mindlessly hating on Sadie? Well that’s a happy surprise
Hosea reminds me so much of my grandpa he is wise and wanted all of us to be successful he’s a big influence on me
Why isn't Micah at the bottom of the list
Because he is a well written villain.
@@dutchvanderlinde44I disagree he’s very one dimensional imo. Dutch is written way better. Hell even Ross is written better.
@@cocob0l0 it’s because micah was able to infiltrate and collapse the vander linde gang from the inside by manipulating the leader.
Black Belle was a badass.. but he said the ranking was also based on their contribution to the story. She played a very minor role in the story..
I agree tbh I’d put Grimshaw, Abigail, and MB wayyy higher than Sadie when it comes to being good characters. Hell even Molly has a better story than Sadie.
@@kappa_oasisoh yea for sure i got that, i was just trying to make a point.
Gordon, you forgot that dutch spoke spanish
The Chelonia music in the back go’s so hard
I’m glad this man put some respect of Sean’s name
I have to admit that is a great list
Thank you!
I have just started the chapter 3 and then thid video got recommended to me , ohh boy after seeing the character 's death my heart feels kinda heavy .
In chapter 3 you can see mrs grimshaw talking to Martha beth telling her if heaven exists and turns out mrs grimshaw had a husband who sadly died maybe that's why she always mad
