Thanks for a well detailed video. It's Saturday Nov, 9th and I just completed this repair, this video was an excellent guide. One thing to add, on the 2011 Elantra, there's a steel plate that runs along the knee plate under the steering column, there wasn't an airbag to deal with. That steel plate has to come out, and anyone attempting this should consider wearing mechanics gloves, as there's a lot to get cut on. I did sustain some cuts on my hands, but that's part of the job I guess. This video saved me about $900 in repairs at the shop. Thanks again for a well put together video.
I did it! I was a bit intimidated by the eleven electrical connections, with their hidden tabs and secret unlocking codes, but I got them all disconnected and then moved on to the steering shaft. Heavy. It's not 25 lbs, but you've gotta get under it to maneuver that tab into place and get the bolt across the holes. Thank you Ratchets and Wrenches, for the excellent video. I saved myself $450 tonight, and the steering is quiet and smooth once again!
Love your tutorials. Very thorough. I used one of your old video's to do the timing belt on a 2.4ltr Mitsubishi. I had no surprises. you left nothing out. Thankyou!
Aha. That's the clunck in my steering wheel of my European Ceed year 2009. Thank you for the tip. I thought it was mechanical problem ball joints, but those are okay. Information for other followers, CEED is the sister car of the Hyundai i30, shares a lot of the same technique. I miss my easy Civic 😂
I have a '95 Hyundai, paid $250, less then $1500 delivered from Phoenix to New York 15 years ago, great simple economical reliable car. The new ones have engine probs... mine has 165k
I bought a 2010 accent for a grand in the summer of 2021. Cleaned it up, changed the timing belt and sold it in may 2022 for $2200 plus a 2003 Buick Century with 80,000 miles. I was gonna flip the buick but it's so nice after fixing the a/c it's now my daily driver. I loved the accent but I barely fit thru the door, otherwise I'd of kept it.
Great info!...I have a 2013 Elantra and this clunking problem started at around 60k miles. I found out Hyundai issued an "unknown" TSB about the steering clunk and they extended the warranty for this particular problem for ten years. Took my Elantra to the dealership for the repair last year and they tried to charge me for the repair. I had to show them the TSB and they did the repair in-warranty. At this time, if you have a 2013-2016 Elantra with the steering clunk sound, you should still be able to get the repair done at the dealership in-warranty.
merci beaucoup pour votre vidéo, j'ai réussi à réparer ma hyndai i30, j'avais un peu peur avec tous les connecticts à débrancher mais, il y a pas trop de risque de se tromper au remontage
I received a recall notice from Kia for the steering motor and related components. The warranty is extended out to 15 years and 150,000 miles for this. Is this the same issue?
I'm so glad that you didn't list the 2016 Kia Sorento. my EPS steering (when stationary) makes an abrupt noise with headlights flickering when trying to get out of parallel parking spot where I need to move the steering wheel all the way to the right.. Very odd behavior. It slips and doesn't let me turn it all the way to the right. Again, Im not even moving or slightly moving and I turn hard-right to give me the maximum turning radius and BAM, it skips and headlights go out then back on. Any ideas? thanks so much, you are awesome!
I had to do that on a Right hand drive Santa Fe, exactly the same but that Pivot Bolt wasn't so easy to get out, had to remove the brake and accelerator pedals. There was also some module in the way which could not be removed but I had to pivot it out of the way. Three tries and many cut knuckles later but I got it right.
hi, i have a similar problem but im not sure if it is the same that you show on video. Does this makes noise when going through bumps on the road? mine sounds a lot when going through bumps and holes on the street. Car is a kia rio/picanto 2014. Really nice and informative video, thank you
What an awful job that was to do. Hate those kind jobs. I find it easiest to just remove the seat out of the car, only 4 bolts and a connector or two usually. Really helps to have enough room without boiling your blood 🤣 Glad you got it done though friend 💕👍
Amazing the manufacturers don't make it out of a more resilient material considering what it takes to get to it. Good thing they saved those 4 cents and passed huge labour costs on to their customers.
@@jozuba Doesn’t matter where it comes from someone is still cheaping out and there is someone approving it. I think most people would be happy paying a few more dollars up front than having to get their steering column ripped out.
Is this the same issue with hyundai accent, where if you are travel slowly in uneven road the steering joint feels shaky. Sounds like coins bumping each other? Thank you
AUSTRALIA / AUSTRALIANS Honestly, unless you're very capable just get a mechanic to do this. With the RHS steering conversion they didn't swap the side the carriage bolt for the column pivot from right to left, so you can't access that bolt unless you move the fuse box out of the way, and even then a bracket for the brake pedal framework is completely in the way making it difficult to extract the bolt and next to impossible to get it back in. This is a two man job, you'll want someone manipulating the column whilst another person tries to get the bolt back in, there's absolutely no room to see let alone work. Ask me how I know.
@@willallen7757 The only "jap crap" I can think of are Nissans with their CVT transmissions and Subarus with their head gasket problems (at least on the older models).
I did this on a Kia cerato/Forte and made a video as well... I can tell you for sure it's not a fun job... Unfortunately it's unavoidable... You will eventually replace the coupler
Do you know what the frh for this job is? I see these all the time and send to the dealer cause there’s nothing on Mitchell for it. Would love to attempt it. Thank you

Does it also make this sound when hitting bumps in the road? Would that be another issue?

These newer Kia's and newer Hyundai's with GDI technology are not reliable, so always stick to the older models when possible.
