I want to commend you sir for such a great detailed video thats crystal clear and so are your instructions, I have watched hundreds if not thousands of repair videos and I have to say this is in the TOP 5! Great job and keep up the great vids. Thanks
This video is very well made. And the best part is you show how to put it all back together and didn't cop out and just say "to reverse the process" like a lot of these videos say. Putting it all back together is the most difficult part. Before watching whole video I figured I was just going to have to skip backward through it to see how to put it all back together. Thanks for the video.
Without you're video, The Great detail of you're work & video. I would of paid $800 to a Shop, Instead I found you're video and decided I was going to do it myself. Bought the coupler for $ 15 bucks and took me couple hours to do it myself. Now my car has no problem with the clucking of the sterring wheel. Thank you sir & and great Video 👍
This video was very nicely done. It gave me the confidence to do this job myself. Kia wanted $600 to fix it. I bought the $5 rubber ninja star from Kia and a friend and I took about 4 hours from start to finish. Some clips are hard to remove. Once the steering column drops down, it's hard work putting it back. It has to line up just right, the bolt in the back was a bear, but we just took our time and wiggled things into place. Thank you again for the great video! (Btw, I used a shop vac to vacuum out all the old rubber bits that were left behind inside the coupler housing. That helped out a lot)
THANK YOU so much for the detailed video! I’m not even anywhere close to even calling myself a DIY mechanic. I can barely hook up jumper cables. Followed your video and paused and rewound a million times, but got the piece replaced and put back together. The 14mm bolt took me the longest. What I finally realized was I had locked the steering wheel adjustment lever which was keeping me from getting the column in the right spot. After I loosed it I was able to shove the bolt through and get it tightened. Thank you again for the detail especially putting it back together!
Brilliant video! Thank you. Not sure how much this job would have cost from a mechanic shop, but thanks to you and a 14.50 rubber part the size of a quarter, I was able to complete the job successfully, in an hour and a half. Brilliant video again. Thank you!
Thank you! This video is one of the most informative how to auto repair videos I've seen on RUclips yet. The camera work is outstanding and the details and helpful hints are very much appreciated. I feel a lot more confident tackling this job having this resource to refer to. I'm sure I'll be replaying it constantly while I do it.
Can’t thank you enough for this video. Bought the part for $6.99 on Amazon, dealership wanted $460! Husband and I tackled this today and good as new. Followed to the letter and it can out fantastic. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Thanks a lot for making this video. I’ve had a knocking noise while turning for a couple years and did my research and this was my problem. Bought the $20 Dorman part from the part store and spent about 3 hours doing it but fortunately it’s all fixed up! That dang bolt was so hard to get in but finally got it.
Absolutely stellar video. Maybe doing this to my 2013 soul painless. Quick suggestion is to pull the front half of the steering column out so I had two smaller parts when reinstalling. Much easier to get the back end up onto the small metal latch in back.
You are 100% right. that box at 6:20 is in the middle. That connector at 8:29, better use the pick tool, not the one you used. I did it. I removed the seat ( WOW, how easy was without it). Recommendation: Remove the from seat and you will thank me 10 time. -- The steering wheel fall in front of me with the Electric motor easy to change the coupler. Mine was intact, easy to remove and put a new one. It was making a little noise, so I replace it because my wife was a little complaining. No code, not engine light on, all came back normal, car drive good. all was perfect. Thank you. Your videos are really good.
Thank you so much for this very detailed video! I really appreciate all the tight shots and the detailed descriptions. You left nothing to guessing. It made what I felt was going to be a two-day job because of time constraints and turned it into a fairly easy morning endeavor. 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks a ton for posting this video! You really helped me out. I couldn't believe how much of a difference that coupler made. It seems like it tightened the whole front end.
Hi! Thank you for the video! I just did this following every step you showed. I did take the driver seat off for better room. However when I connected battery and start the car I have the traction control and airbag lights on. Any advice on that? Once again, thank you!
I'm doing it today. You are 100% right. that box at 6:20 is in the middle, I just removed and now can see better the bolt. pick tool is a 1000% recommended. Nah, that connector at 5:50 not pretty easy at all. I almost break it. You have to do something out of camera, because you corrected then come again to lose it. I think you used the pick tool and push the little black inside and push with finger the other black one in your left hand. -- That connector at 8:29, better use the pick tool, not the one you used. better see your video 10 times. Thumb up for your video and for have a camera in a place so difficult to be working. -- Everything is exactly as my Kia soul 2012 2.0L automatic. I just did half of the job, and tomorrow I do the rest and then coming back for update.
Thanks for a great video! Really appreciated the step by step instructions for both disassembly and reassembly. Took a couple of hours to complete and saved big buck$!
A little advice, the steering wheel will complety detach from the column which makes it so much easier to bolt into place, just don't be like me and spend several hours wondering why the bolt won't tighten down because I forgot to set my ratchet to the correct setting
Amazing video, you saved me a chunk of change and lots of stress trying to figure it out. Recommend help putting the steering wheel back in, but we knocked it out in about 90minutes to 2 hours. Thank you!
I did this step by step and when I put everything back together my power steering is not working at all. Double checked every plug and everything is plugged back in correctly. Any ideas?
At 15:37 min I see you moving the coupler on the electric motor shaft around. I was warned that moving the steering wheel or electric motor around would cause an computer fault due to the fact that the steering wheel is no longer aligned correctly and centered with the steering. Did you move the electric motor around when you were cleaning it?
The motor itself has no affect at all . The only way it would even be possible to affect the alignment would be completely remove the steering column and spin the wheel. (which you would keep it locked) Even at that point it may not affect the steering angle sensor. Usually only happens when removing the steering wheel and the sensor and not removing it properly.
Thanks for the information. I managed to get it fixed thanks to this video. The toughest part was the air bag connector (push the little bar at the front of the connector in until it releases), and lifting the steering column up. Very awkward!
I have not had to do that on any that I have replaced. If this is the case , if you have a scan tool capable to reset this , it is no issue. If not , it would require taking it to a shop to be reset. Thanks for the feedback.
My Mom's maybe starting to mess up it was being tight when I drive it but I think it might be that stupid motor they have on the steering so I wanted to tell you thanks for making this and sharing this is so much appreciated, I've saved this video liked and subscribed Tony T.
No , but if it will make the noise parked while turning , you may be able to raise the hood and have someone listen. This will help pin point the area. Hope this helps.
I'm not sure what is going on, but after finishing the job I started the car and the steering wheel gave a jerk, the P/S light came on and now no P/S. Checked connections and fuses, all ok?
Awesome job on this video…..I didn’t trust myself so my buddy helped plus I could’ve never gotten that steering column back up by myself. I’m so excited I was able to do this watching your video! Thanks and keep them coming!
I would say no , but it may be possible. Most likely shaking at high speeds would be alignment , tire out of balance issue , or some suspension component . Hope this helps.
Hi @dougsmith4525 just wondering if you solved the shaking at high speeds? And if it was indeed the steering coupler that was causing the shaking? Thank you.
I don't think it is urgent , because I actually put this one off for a couple months. The only thing I worried about was damage to the mating gears. Did not appear to be any harm that I could tell. Thanks for watching

Incredible video. Very well detailed and the explanation was on point. Seen a ton of how to videos but this one takes the cake. You saved me a lot of money. Thanks and keep em coming. Just one question, what is the blue stuff you put on the t30s?
It can for a short while. I would try to fix it as soon as you can , just to prevent any possible damage to the motor or column mating gears. Thanks for the feedback.
Is this a common problem with other brands of cars or just kia and hyundai? I hope they redesigned this because this is a bad design if it will keep failing.
