hey Brian, trd pro black4runner 2018 you installed is working well 48x miles last year and counting. I get a lot of compliments on your work. Take care, John Corona, ca.
Wondering if plans can be bought for similar vehicle. Explorer sport 99. Doesn't have back doors but i really like this idea of not taking seats out. Anyhow thanks for idea and I'll check website if I can find link. Thanks again
Really cool setup! Would be interesting to see if you could design the extension in a way so that it can fold into itself and into the the back area. Then the whole system would be self contained in the cargo area and you could just unfold it when you get to your destination.
@@SolidWoodWorx For the extension piece, I would drill some 1/4" holes to not only reduce unnecessary weight but to reduce any condensation under the mattress. Wdyt..?
Question: Do you do commissions? I have my 4Runner that I wanna convert into a camper and I have a few ideas for it, but no clue how to execute them or make it. It's a 1999, so same body as this one here. If you're up in the New England area, then I'd happily drive over and pay you a visit!
I am too tall for the length, I bought the plans and was hoping to alter the design by making the height tall enough to clear the folded down seat to extend it a bit. Is there anything in the design that would largely hinder that alteration?
Wish you could do mine! I just finished my plans for my conversion. Hoping to use your grill drawer idea in there. Looking for a shop to give it a try. Do you put a sheet of wood under those drawers or do they solely sit on the sliders ?
i'm 6'3'' i would seriously consider removing back seats if i could get over 6'3'' of bedspace back there. maybe even make a piece that folds out even further if you move both front seats all the way up until the dash. Completely Maximize full space of the vehicle
@@SolidWoodWorx If you ever come out with anything like that, you have a buyer here. I love sleeping in my 4runner but having more room would be life changing. Let me know!
If you remove the back seat bottoms (only 4 12mm bolts & 5 minutes) you’ll gain about 8 more inches for an approx length of 6’ 3” and I’m guessing Solid Wood Works could make a custom version to use the additional length. Hope this is helpful.
Curious to know... have you ever used HDPE (high density polyethylene) to fabricate your very cool slide-in-boxes and beds? I know HDPE is slightly heavier and slightly more expensive than plywood but HDPE might be more durable long-term and less prone to abrasion, impact damage, UV damage, water staining/damage and mold/mildew growth. Marine Board HDPE PP (HDPE polyolefins) - also known as Star Board - is available in same dimensional sizes as plywood - 0.25" - 1.0" thicknesses and 2'x4', 4'x4', 4'x8' sheets. HDPE cuts and machines very similar to plywood using same woodworking tools. Marine Board HDPE also has a high strength-to-mass rating (specific strength) and is available in a variety of solid colors. More info on Marine Board HDPE here - www.acmeplastics.com/marine-board/marine-board.
Well I’ve looked everywhere, in all my books, on the interred, hell I even asked my wife and she knows everything! I still can’t find the word “acrosst”, what is this word you Americans use, it certainly isn’t in the English dictionaries?
Thanks, I am working on becoming homeless and this will help me a bunch.

Hey john, thats awesome thanks for the comment!
I really enjoy watching your elegant design projects.
Have you ever built a platform like this for a Chevy Equinox?
This is exactly what was looking for, great job.
You are so creative! I can "see" other applications for this "extend-a-bed" feature. Good job!
Would these dimensions work in a second gen 4Runner?

I have built one of those before

@@SolidWoodWorx Do you have a video or plans for that?
Do you special order for 2016 4runner limited?
Selling the plans is a great idea! I'll be looking for a first Gen tundra template 😁
Nice work. Have you ever done this type of bed platform for Honda Pilot 2012?
Curious to see how to manage with the trunk slope...
I have not
Nice build
The base of the middle row that is leaning forward can come out with a 14mm for more storage room
Thats correct but most customers dont want to remove that seat everytime. But i do have some people who do remove that seat!
I'm getting rid of my Decked drawers and gonna build something similar for my Titan.
The bed extension length is 5'-7", what is the width of the bed extension?
What is the height of the this box? Are you still selling plans? Thanks
For the 3rd gen 4runner the height is 7". You can find plans on my website www.solidwoodworx.com
How come you went with the lip on the backside of the box instead of the earlier versions with the long metal L angle piece on the platform? Thanks!
I stopped that metal angle because it was sharp and just didnt need to be there.
How long is the wood fully assembled? From seat back to tailgate?
About 6ft
Can you do the same thing for an FJCruiezer.? Drawer set up with bed
Yes email solidwoodworx@gmail.com
Hi what about nissan armada 2004
So nice. 👍🏼
Nice job
Will this fit a second generation?
No the 2nd generation unfortunately has the gas inlet that protrudes into the cargo area.
Can a person 5"4" sit upright after a mattress is on the platform?
Yes!
Will this plan fit in my 2nd gen 4Runner ?
No
@@SolidWoodWorx do you have plans or know someone with plans for a 2nd gen? Thanks

I’m in Southern California sorry
I have a 2001 GMC Yukon, I’m 6’2”. I like your work on the Tacoma but I also need more head room. What can you do?
Email solidwoodworx@gmail.com
Where does the mattress go when you take up the extension?
In garage
Or, if you're away from home, have a tri-fold mattress that can store behind the middle seats if you need to use the seats.
I am too tall for the length, I bought the plans and was hoping to alter the design by making the height tall enough to clear the folded down seat to extend it a bit. Is there anything in the design that would largely hinder that alteration?
The taller you make the box the shorter in depth from front to back since the seat slants, that would be the biggest problem.
Can u not sleep at an angle
I have a 2005 Lexus. Ideas for that?
Could do the same thing as this, email me solidwoodworx@gmail.com
I’m in Southern California, can you make me one for my 5th Gen?
Email solidwoodworx@gmail.com
Have you ever converted a Jeep Patriot?
Have not
Wish you could do mine! I just finished my plans for my conversion. Hoping to use your grill drawer idea in there. Looking for a shop to give it a try.

Where do u store the bed extension when not in use?
Garage
Do you have anything similar for 5th gen with 3rd row seat? Seems more complicated an arrangement.
My system does not work with the 3rd row seat option sorry!
Where are you located? Have you done a 4th gen? Ballpark how much would you charge for the whole work and just the DIY plan. Thanks.
Yes I have done a 4th gen, go have a look at my website to get the price for the build out. www.solidwoodworx.com
So how much is it to just pick it up? Out the door price?
You can find more info on my website www.solidwoodworx.com
What kind of plywood do you use?
He covers that in a different video
Normally on these a luan which is a lighter weight plywood
Where are you located? And is your website?

Buddy, why doesnt your site sell 4th gen prints ?

Never done one
Nice work mate have you ever done a 2006 Ford Territory 👊🏻🤠👍🏻
No
As long as you're tiny and under 5'6, should be comfy
Maybe I didn't understand. The length of the sleeping area is only 5 ft 7 in?
Yes

Never have no. Its heavier and a lot more expensive a sheet of .75" is like $38 and I see a sheet of .5" is $230 thats quite a difference mate,
@@SolidWoodWorx Roger that. Thanks for the commentary.
rad!
