@@Altenarian Rick made a video that explains it better, I'll leave a link to it below, but essentially, sixth generation ships refers to a line of ships that originated in Star Trek Online that were made post Star Trek Nemesis. They the next generation of ships where Starfleet had implemented the newest leaps in technology for that era. They were most easily identifiable from their white/black hulls, kind of like the NASA shuttles, while taking a lot of design inspirations from classic vessel designs (i.e., The Sutherland, Reliant, and Pathfinder classes)

In "Encounter At Farpoint," they specifically explain that the holodeck uses patterns to recreate plants and objects (such as the water Wesley fell in, and then tread out in the hallway). In "The Big Goodby," the holodeck seemed to use more unstable matter, at least when simulating humanoids, resulting in the gangsters that stepped out of the holodeck gradually disintegrating. It makes sense that later they changed holodecks to exclusively use force-fields and light projections, since the original version of the holodeck was likely an energy hog (granted, Voyager had dedicated generators for its holodecks) and a maintenance monster. 4:23 As shown, Sickbay is in the VERY bad spot. Sickbay, and any medical facilities, are "shelter sections" in a starship, in virtually ANY franchise, and so should be pretty much buried in the ship were it is easy to defend, tends to have a LOT of ship around it, and hard to hit. In some ships, the Sickbay is centrally located to make reaching escape pods or shuttles easier, good for receiving patients, as well.

From a writing perspective they were probably just too powerful to keep around, but I'd be interested to know a cannon reason they weren't incorporated into ships like the Voyager-A. The only thing I can think of is some technicality concerning the temporal prime directive, but we've seen how often Star Fleet likes to ignore that one. Yes, it looks nothing alike, but the quasi covert mission/scientific capabilities follow a similar vein. This one seems like a ship that would be sent in after Starfleet intelligence has done a sweep of the area and confirms that it's okay to send a proper ship in. It can do science in the area studying, but also can carry secret mission equipment that is disguised in the hull

At the beginning of World War II, along with George Antheil, Lamarr co-invented a radio guidance system for Allied torpedoes that used spread spectrum and frequency hopping technology to defeat the threat of radio jamming by the Axis powers. I think the real difference is that the shows are focusing more on lower ranked characters, not that they weren't always there. Spoilers for season 1 of Disco I guess, but Tilly is a notorious Captain in the mirror universe, and Lorca seems to have surrounded himself with people he knew about. So if you wanna extra layer that might be part of it.

@@thod8820 Yea, sure, like the Discovery writers had deliberately thought about that nuance, and weren't just like "the existing mirror universe episodes feature the same people, so should ours".
Tilly is not the exception, she is the rule. The one new series where it's evident without having to conjure up head-canon that seasoned crew is manning the ship is SNW. Discovery has a bunch of rookies, so does Prodigy.

    • @thod8820

@@dominic.h.3363 I mean I think they use the same character's because that's kinda the whole gimmick with the Mirror Universe and they're gonna use the same cast. The whole reason Michael is on the ship in the first season is because of her mirror self's interactions with Lorca, so I think they probably thought about it at least a little bit.
Also, Strange New Worlds does have an important cadet, Uhura. She's about as impactful as Tilly is in her show. Outside very specific situations none of these shows have low rank folks in charge. Prodigy has Janeway and her bridge crew. Discovery has them giving advice and once has Tilly as Saru's temp XO for training. Strange New Worlds has Uhura being respected but she's not in a leadership role often.
Edit: Lower Decks also has lower ranking folks, but they have a bridge crew too. I think the real difference is just what perspective we're seeing the shows from in these new series more so than a shift in how the structure of the world works.

Side note, we (in universe) know the voyager wasn’t destroyed. We know it becomes a museum ship and was only 7 years old and in great shape when she came home from the delta quadrant because, apparently, it had the absolute best repair crews in starfleet. The intrepid class would’ve still been in service and presumably still in production or at least still in widespread use when the Voyager A was built. So why would she have been retired other than some writer saying they wanted a new ship for their story? Like when they just wanted a new Enterprise for the end of ST:Picard s3.
Really wish production crews would pay attention to that stuff, that was the worst thing Nicolas Myers and Nimoy kept trying to force in ST 2&3 and in 6. Relatively new ships being retired as an analogy to the characters aging which opened the doors for less talented writers and directors to latch onto that idea and spread it out between all iterations of the universe because just wanted a new hero ship in movie or series.

by the time voyager returned to the alpha quadrant and to starfleet it had traveled more lightyears and been involved in more first contacts, and seen more consistent battle then any ship starfleet had ever had -- its retirement was well earned, mind you if you follow the cannon of STO then it was still in some use for a few years after it returned under the command of Tuvok.
I like to believe that starfleet would likely have it on short missions under the command of Tuvok/Chekotay for a few years after Janeway was promoted to admiral while the new Voyager A test bed was being built along side several other test beds based on technology designed and gleaned between the dominion war borg incursions/the artifact and of course the big one being everything voyager brought back from the delta quadrant and the moment the ship could be decommissioned it was as by this time the ship was in dire need of refits and or complete replacement after everything it had been involved during its travels in the delta quadrant also due to its significant accomplishments it was obviously going to be ear marked for museum status immediately.

The Intrepid class was designed to go out for approximately 3 years between overhauls and have access to at least the nearest Spacedock-type station for repairs. Voyager was doing emergency repairs planetside for twice that timespan. That adds up. Quickly. There’s a damn good reason she had a ship (well the Cerritos) as support even on a routine flight to Earth.

    • @nekophht
      @nekophht 10 дней назад +2

It's not the years, it's the mileage. ;)
Voyager spent a significant amount of time away from any sort of support (as others have commented), and with all the tech integrated in over the years, I wouldn't be surprised if they decommissioned her so they could go over every inch of the ship studying it and the effects of extensive time away from starbase support, as well as studying the new tech and so forth onboard.
It makes more sense then a 1km long Odyssey showing up in the mid-2380s (right around when the Synths attacked...) to take over from the Ent-E (mysterious early retirement there... possibly due to that mess at the end of Prodigy S1 somehow?), only to get early retirement itself 15 years later. A planned retirement with apparently no successor in place if they decided to shit on the Titan legacy with the Ent-G.

    Gotta be honest...
If the warp core is in the fore section of the saucer, that would be quite a bad inefficient design.... (-_-)
Even considering the cetacean operation area, they should have put that core in the neck/aft of the ship...
Now, they will have to unnecessarily extend dedicated energy conduits throughout the saucer & neck of the ship making it more vulnerable...

The second season does a LOT canon wise, despite being a kids show. So it's definitely worth a watch if you're into knowing every little Trek detail.
It's probably also the biggest Star Trek time-travel storyline outside of Enterprise (with the Temporal Cold War), Voyager (with Janeway and the Borg) and the whole Kelvin timeline thing.

I think the fact that the doctor was zipping around the ship with his emitter was probably a money decision to not waste the money and doing different CGI for him just for that one kind continuity again it’s for kids.
but clearly he shouldn’t have that. if he’s using the internal system to move around the ship he should have an emitter, he never did that with Voyager.
Also, if they’re saying that the hologram emitters are able to replicate the mobile emitter, then that would mean they should be able to replicate emitter for any hologram that’s why I don’t like the fact that they’re showing him moving and do the ship with the emitter because it adds the implication that the Star fleet can create a imobile emitter
