0:01 - Oh hey, there I am! Man, this turned better than I could have imagined! I'm sure Smithy himself would have approved of this cover! He IS made of metal, after all.
Smithy 2 is my favorite song in the game, and you guys definitely did it justice. The only thing I might add is a couple cow bell hits to mimic the hammer at some point, since it's hard for me to hear the song without that effect.
Absolutely loved 'Fight against Smithy', but was never too big on 'Fight Against Smithy, Who Likes Transforming', so when you announced you had this in store for us at some point I was so excited that you'd make me like it and by god did you. The video editing and references scattered throughout this were immense, you can definitely tell Smithy was a big one.
@@imptwins Agreed, I always felt like the two tracks were backwards - the transforming track isn't bad, but it definitely feels like a step down from the Smithy track.
Sorry in advance; contrarian incoming. I'd like to at least try to defend the second theme :P Smithy's first theme was always good, and I wouldn't blame anyone for preferring it, but I think the second is by far my favorite precisely _because_ of the atmosphere. The first theme absolutely fits with the goofy, energetic charm typical of Mario themes (particularly this game's), and it has a regal tinge to it. Comparatively, the second feels more intense. Frantic, even. It sounds _off_ in a way not many other themes really portray, while still capturing the energy a boss theme should be able to do. It doesn't fit in the world of Mario, and neither does Smithy- so his boss theme doesn't sound like it belongs either. He's got to be at least a little insane, and that much is reflected in the theme's odd progressions from section to section- but he's the last of his kind, and he doesn't intend to go down without doing everything he can. Also, the battlefield is literally made of Smithy heads. Take from that what you will. Admittedly, the original feels a little empty after listening to this, but that's probably because Johnny (and the other 2 :)) did _so_ well. idk i like it i guess
I haven't actually finished the game yet so thank you for switching to SNES footage for phase2, I appreciate that you consider occasional slo-mos like me lol edit: LMAO NEVERMIND

I tried my best and would eat shit when he did sword rain and sledge. Couldn't do it. Grinded some more from an old save, thinking I most definitely had it now. Fought smithy, and I finally got him. Barely survived with a few pick me ups left and some syrup, shrooms, and a rock candy. Then I was like wait, why is he angry? Was he not angry? Wait, what foundation is breaking? Wait what? Then we fall. Its the firs time I experienced such a landscape in a game. It was hellish. What the hell am I looking at? Are these his bodies? Its silent. He says hes pissed, hes done. Then he says "come on you puny ants!" and the music kicks in. Holy shit. Intense. Trying to survive every attack. Pick me up after pick me up. Every godamned weapon rain, shape shifting. It was nuts. At the time I had no concept of second forms or anything of the sort. The sheer insanity of the entire thing. Marios left. 1 mushroom, dont die just dont die. 1 rock candy I've been saving the entire game cause I thought it was something special in my time of need. I look at my options and decide, this is it. I have to take the game back tomorrow, its already late and not much time left. Its barely ever at the video store and I barely get to ever rent it. I already knew my save file would probably be erased the next time I did rent it. So, hail mary shot. I select the rock candy and use it.
A highly wanted track AND a collab with two other artists all in one cover?! Damn, us GaMetal fans are eating GOOD today! You guys blew it out of the water in this one, I LOVE how you made it extremely metal but also kept the epic feel of the original at the same time, that is _exactly_ what you want to see in a cover! This is without a doubt one of the best tracks you've ever done, you all did an absolutely INCREDIBLE job on it!!
You absolutely crush Shimomura’s Mario final boss themes. Like, wow, this is clean. Thank you for being a consistent source of covers for the Mario RPGs
LORD HELP ME THIS RULED I mean, it's not enough that the track blows me away, between the overall heaviness, the AWESOME solos from everyone, the distortion of the melody before the incredible transition, the drumming and all the effects on phase 2, the DROP AT 2:28 GIMME A BREAK, THE LEIMOTIF AT 3:57 STOPPPPPPP Yeah, it's NOT ENOUGH that the song overall is incredible, THEN you hit us with this AMAZING editing for the video itself what the HECK MAN HOW DO YOU DO THESE THINGSSSSSSS This whole thing killed the Nutty, i will be consumed by this all day. All three of you did mad justice to these two themes. I especially like how you included details from both the original and the remake versions - especially that extra riff from the remake of Fight Against Smithy, Who Likes Transforming/Battling Smithy's Many Forms, which was my favourite part of the track as it made it feel more like a proper showdown. The video editing is the real highlight, though. Having Ro forged from Smithy's Smelter and Puppet Bowser's hammer transforming Jonny into Richaad was a stroke of genius.
Even Smithy himself approves of this fantastic remaster, I was listening to your old SMRPG medley the other day while playing Mario Kart Tour & I thought, "Will Smithy's themes ever get the remaster treatment?" After I ate something, I checked my notifications on my phone & see this. This remastered version is a great improvement & I can't wait to see more eventually being added. You, Ro & RichaadEB crushed it! Requests: This is Booster Tower (Super Mario RPG) And My Name is Booster! A remix so good not only was it a collab, but the knight and even the old Jonny had to reappear to lend a hand, fedora and all. This was awesome to listen to, and with a Megaman Zero remix up next, I can’t wait to see what February brings. Here’s my requests (list rework still in progress): 1. Shooting Star (Megaman Starforce 1-3) 2. The Collision of Thunderstorms (Azure Striker Gunvolt) 3. Battle! Zero Lab (Pokémon Scarlet and Violet)
When I finally played SMRPG through the Remake, I was fully blown away by both of these themes. I think I like Smithy's first theme more, but both are pretty sick! And this remix does both of them Justice, absolutely stunning work, as always!
This is one of the most phenomenal GaMetal remixes I've ever listened to in the decade that I've been around, it totally beats your 2012 version and the SMRPG Remake one. The opera in the first phase is a great addition to intensify things and those timed zoom ins on Smithy were cool. Second phase had some inspiration from the remake of course, but more notably I can't get over that genius editing with Bowser transforming the guitarists on screen which resulted in the return of Fedora Jonny!! I got very nostalgic seeing the fedora and suit after all these years.
OMG YESSSS! I was needing a rock cover of Smithy's last battle theme, and we got not only that but also a remix for the first one 🤌 ...and on top of that, I got goosebumps with 5:18 this song... this game, man...
Holy CRAP, I am UNWELL over this cover. STRAIGHT FIRE! You guys did an absolutely KILLER job on this, gonna be looping it for weeks! GREAT WORK! (Those original solos tho... wipes forehead)
Aw hell yeah, always loved Smithy's two themes for how unique and strange they sounded, and this turns them into absolute bangers while still keeping the rhymical and structural oddities and overall tense atmosphere. The keyboard breakdowns in the second half accompanied by those guitar licks are absolutely amazing too Also sick ass shirts
Awesome collaboration, and I love the transition between the SNES and Switch Versions of both games! The hammer change to each person playing instruments was a nice touch too.

Absolutely killer remix! You guys were wailing like Smithy was about to destroy the world. Love that you included both versions of Super Mario RPG just to represent how how much this rocked. Big shoutout to Richaad too!
I absolutely love that intimidating sledge entrance they had for Smithy in the remake. That was an incredible touch. Also, we need Gravity Circuit remixes now! Deletion Duel FTW!
"This tank needs no engine to move. It's powered by my will." I've been waiting for this one, loved this theme as a kid!! Requesting a cover on the final boss theme of the Spongebob movie video game!
Honestly speechless, you absolutely outdid yourself with this one. I think I found my new obsession after consuming your Wario Deluxe cover to an unhealthy degree these weeks. Wonderful stuff, big kudos to Ro Panuganti and RichaadEB as well!
I just finally got around to beating Smithy in the remake earlier today (I know it's not that long of a game, just been way to busy for the last couple of months.) This is perfect timing and an awesome version.
Finally, after more than a decade... naming my Internet handle after an old Mario villain comes back to bite me. Reading the posts and comments on this one is a bit confusing... But much more importantly than that, the song itself is fire (as always), and the GaMetal cover is even better (as always)! A trio of great guitarists, clever edits, Puppet Bowser... 12 outta 10, loved every second.
Someone call the fire department! Cuz this absolutely transformative remix brings the heat straight from Smithy's forge directly to your ears!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so glad you covered this, especially the second part of the boss fight, which is severely underrated in my opinion. Nice seeing Ro Panuganti and RichaadEB too!
Johnny, I want to thank you so much for all of your awesome jams! Super Mario RPG was such a big part of my childhood and I'm so happy to see your passion for the series! I love how your passion reawakens my own nostalgia and helps to share this series with newcomers. Excellent guest solos by RoPanuganti and RichaadEB as well. I hope one day to be able to help others and share in that passion as you have. I'm also a huge fan of the Zero series, so I can't wait to hear the what melody you will rock out on next!
YOOO Ro and Rich comin' in big as always. Really cool playing with the scale from Ro and Rich is actually gonna start melting strings one of these days. The idea of going through different forms in the song was really cool, especially the way you mixed the lead in and out. And FUCK, lmao, absolute blast from the past seeing you with the trilby and blue guitar. I really have been watchin' you a long time... AND a MMZ track next, FUCK yeag
this is, one of the BEST covers that you guys ever made, seriously. i would like to se more megaman covers! any of them, classic, x, zero, battle network! :D

More Mario RPG covers will always be welcome as far as I'm concerned. You went a bit harder with this one than usual, it feels like, and I'm here for it. Also... I know that silhouette well. You have my attention, good sir.
Well done, loved the tune and a memorable one at that. I remember this fight (Original version, not the remake one) mainly because I never reached it until 13 years after trying the game for the first time. Was one hell of a memorable moment upon Smithy's defeat that day. Context for those that care: Super Mario RPG was my very first video game ever, but being around the age of 5 I was not very good at all lol. Anyways, game was lost, but 13 years later I found the game again as well as the console via a game store called "Play N Trade" and after purchasing them, I went home that day and started working on finishing the journey that started it all for me. So one can perhaps imagine how it felt to finally finish said journey. One for the memory books for sure.
Oh my god, YES!!!!!!! I’ve wanted you to cover this for YEARS! When you were making all the Mario RPG covers for the remake, I was actually really disappointed this wasn’t one of them (though getting Culex instead was a fair trade). But then here you are, pulling this absolute BANGER out of nowhere! This is easily one of my favorite songs you’ve ever done, thank you so much!
I recently finished the remake. It was my first time playing the game, and honestly mostly only did it because of GaMetal and TerminalMontage referencing it so much. Would I say it’s high up in my list of RPG’s? Honestly, not really. Combat mostly felt like spamming strongest moves, and the story felt lacking outside of Mallow and Geno. …but I’d still say it was $60 well spent. It made me laugh quite a few times, half the bosses were really fun, and the soundtrack… the rest of the game may not have been on par with other RPG’s I’ve played, but the soundtrack absolutely was. Thanks for the encouragement to play it, and I happily look forward to any future covers on this channel.
"A fight with Smithy" was always one i liked, but i rarely liked covers of "Who likes Transforming" and you managed to nail it perfectly! You've become ace at those live-phase transitions in your covers! 🔨 Praying for eventual cover of cap'n boom's theme from Bomberman island touch 🙏
4:04 ...wait, so GaMetal and RichaadEB are the _same person?!_ Requesting Ark Mall from Astral Chain...but in the meantime, I will *take* a new MMZ remix, thank you!
You went stupid hard on this theme. I hear everything from Paul Gilbert, Michael Romeo, to John Petrucci. Love that nasty whole tone runs on the second theme.
Man, Super mario rpg is such a good game with such a hammering soundtrack that has so many bangers. Would love to see a cloud kingdom cover next for the next SMRPG song!

When you can we need docaty mountain railroad too, so few people ever remix that song for any reason. Whats better is there IS such a thing as an electric banjo to help complete the feel for the song.
If I can afford it, severely in debt, I would pay you a bunch. This was such an awesome theme to listen to while I was on the treadmill for 15 miles on 2/3/24 and 7 miles 2/6/24. Thanks for the motivation through your awesome interpretations of video game music! Keep it up bro!❤

11. Ekoroshia (Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair)
12. Battle! Zero Lab (Pokemon Scarlet & Violet)
13. Unexpectancy (Pizza Tower)
14. World Tournament Theme (Dragon Ball Fusions)
15. Bust a Move! (Ginga Force)
Absolutely killer remix! You guys were wailing like Smithy was about to destroy the world. Love that you included both versions of Super Mario RPG just to represent how how much this rocked. Big shoutout to Richaad too!
I actually spit out my drink when I saw this in my notifications. It was totally worth it XD
I absolutely love that intimidating sledge entrance they had for Smithy in the remake. That was an incredible touch.
Also, we need Gravity Circuit remixes now! Deletion Duel FTW!
"This tank needs no engine to move. It's powered by my will."
I've been waiting for this one, loved this theme as a kid!!
Requesting a cover on the final boss theme of the Spongebob movie video game!
Easily one of the best remakes of an old game tune I've ever heard. I've been gaming on the snes since age 4 (1993) also sir. Respect.
YES! I have been waiting for this one for a long time. This has got to be the best rendition on this song out there!
Loving the appearance of Classic Jonny. Nice work y'all!
How is no one commenting on Bowser turning Jonny into OG blue and black Jonny from back in the day!! (4:45) That was AMAZING just as this whole video!
Oh my god thank you this was always my favorite part of the smrpg medley!
I feel like Smithy's first form is this proud confident march, where his minions are cheering him on.
And then he gets mad for the 2nd phase.
I've never... in my years on RUclips... NEVER favorited something so quickly
Nobody:
Smithy .1 seconds upon starting the fight: *SLEDGE*
I love the transformation sequences you did for "Who Likes Transforming" and Ro being "forged" for his part. Nice touches!
Be careful what you wish for.. lest Mega Man 2 on the Gameboy appears..
The sneak at the end confirmed a Mega Man Zero track, so you getting your wish.
@@edgarlozada3858Crash, Neo Arcadia, Enemy Hall, Fake, Yggdrasill, Omega, Departure, Esperanto... and more :)
@@edgarlozada3858Since it’s artwork of Zero from Zero 2 specifically, I hope it’s either Departure, Awakening Will, Supreme Ruler, Power Bom or Flash Back!
LETS GOOOOOO I've been waiting for you to cover this one lol. Epic asf!!
BTW i caught my request comment flashing through the beginning of the intro, thanks so much for featuring it if even only for a fraction of a second lmao xD!
Don't get so worked up! Think of your blood pressure!
Wow... Not one but THREE of my favorite videogame musicians in one collab for one of the greatest videogames of all time! Awesome!!
More Mario RPG covers will always be welcome as far as I'm concerned. You went a bit harder with this one than usual, it feels like, and I'm here for it. Also... I know that silhouette well. You have my attention, good sir.
FUCKING YES!!!! I always thought of the first half of the smithy theme as the highlight of the medley!!!
That transition between themes was so smooth! What a slapper you made, Mr. GaMetal!
But I suppose that's standaaaard~!
I was shocked when I had more trouble with smithy than culex he really dropped the hammer hard but bot nearly as hard as your sick beats
Sick arrangement and awesome editing for the guest spots!
This sure was a trip through memory lane, wasn't expecting to see old Jonny too.
Amazing cover as always! :D
"A fight with Smithy" was always one i liked, but i rarely liked covers of "Who likes Transforming" and you managed to nail it perfectly! You've become ace at those live-phase transitions in your covers! 🔨
Praying for eventual cover of cap'n boom's theme from Bomberman island touch
🙏
4:04 ...wait, so GaMetal and RichaadEB are the _same person?!_
Requesting Ark Mall from Astral Chain...but in the meantime, I will *take* a new MMZ remix, thank you!
That was amazing!!!!
AND ZERO IS NEXT CAN'T WAIT!!!
You're always pulling out my favorites!
Badass! 🤘Well worth the wait!!
I audibly exclaimed "HOLY FUCK" at the opening. You blew this one outta the water man.
You went stupid hard on this theme. I hear everything from Paul Gilbert, Michael Romeo, to John Petrucci. Love that nasty whole tone runs on the second theme.
I love this, so much nostalgia.
I love the cover and I love the transfomations with bowser's hammer
All of you rules 🤟
Awesome! I've waited years for Smithy to get the banging tune he always deserved!
HE BROUGHT THE HAT BACK OH MY GOD
*WOOOOOOOOO! YEAH BABY! THAT'S WHAT WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!*
*WOOOOOO!*
YOU DID IT MY GAMETAL RPG BOSS COLLECTION IS COMPLETE! LOVE YOU MAN
This is intense and awesome!
You're going down my wishlist right now or what 👌👌👌 nailed it Johny
This has always been one of my favorite final boss themes in all of gaming. What a treat this is! Thanks for making so many awesome Mario RPG remixes!
