I've been wondering if Costume #7 is maybe a reference to Future Connected. Pyra is the Monado Replica EX and Mythra is the World Ender (Melia's new staff). That's the closest match I can think of for Mythra that would connect to the Monado.
It might also be a reference to the Verus Skell in XCX as that one also uses that colorscheme and it would also fit the whole mech referencing theme of the latter alts
"the evil color scheme doesn't make sense for welltall" *incinerates Lahan village* just a prank bro Also I'm pretty sure sakurai did not want to explicitly say "xenogears" to avoid the square enix ninjas
They probably could not do it because it would had been too on the nose. I mean I'm sure Bandai Namco would have approved it as they helped with the development of both Smash Wii U/3DS and Smash Ultimate... but Sakurai probably did not want to use that reference as he may had not played Xenosaga.. who knows Sakurai works in mysterious ways.
The gold and silver skin is a reference to XC3's N and M. With N being the golden consul and having gold armor, and M having silver armor and hair. (probably not, but it's fun to think of it that way.)
Actually, we have a general timeframe for Fighter Pass Vol. 2's finalization. The pass itself was greenlit around the time of E3 2019 according to industry insider Imran, with the actual characters being locked in by November of that year according to Sakurai (mentioned during the Byleth presentation, which was recorded on November 2019).
Yea I mean. Pyra and Mythra can exist without a driver because they're peocessors... so Rex isn't really even a part of the equation? She chooses to stay his blade because (spoiler alert) she loves him, not because she's reliant on his existence like other blades. So he's more of a pretty accessory than anything else. Something that's not necessary, but makes you happy. (That came across weird, I love Rex lots I promise)
Nope, Rex is just a driver so he doesn't really go into the equation. Amalthus (The one who awakened Malos) and Sever (Malos' blade) don't really go into the equation since Malos/Logos is also a Trinity Processor.
I think Pyra’s white and blue alt can refer to Rex’s Overdrive outfit. It looks really similar if you look at the two sprites together, the enhanced Rex spirit and Pyra’s color scheme.
I was thinking the Mythra alt 7 reminds me heavily of Melia (the red highlights tying into her Future Connected weapon). Only reserve I have there is that her hair isn't tinted to match.
7:40 Im pretty sure the blue skin changes mythra's core crystal to a blue on the artwork but im not sure about in-game, while skin 7 changes pyra's to a blue core crystal.
For the sixth costume Mythra’s core crystal is actually a light blue instead of a cyan sea foam kind of thing so they each have two castanets with different colored core crystals
For the metallic colors, ive seen people make connections to klaus and galea. With pyra being klaus and mythra being galea. Its a bit of a stretch with pyra, but galea has silver hair and a white coat, and mythra has silver hair and white clothes. Pyra definitely resembles the conduit a lot more that klaus, but with his connections to the conduit it does still make sense. Edit: I completely forgot about zanza, pyra looks like zanza in this costume. mythra still looks more like galea than meyneth but they are basically the same person so close enough.
Huh I thought Mythra #6 was the Trinity processor colours. She has the colours of all Aegis cores but I agree with the Pyra Omnigear Weltall reference! And #5 is clear as day Weltall. I mostly caught everything else you said except the Coffee and Milk thing.... which would be hilarious. I actually do think it is 100% the Zohar though... maybe Mythra as a Kirchwasser or Proto Omega silver since it does have the Zohar at one point. I didn't think about Albedo hah. Too bad Sakurai will never say cause of legal reasons. Isn't it also strange KOS-MOS wasn't referenced even once? No mii costume, no spirit, no alt colour. It's pretty strange to me since she's the brainchild of Monolith Soft. My hope is that since we got the fighter spirits for Pyra and Mythra with their figurine art that maybe Namco will have asked for KOS-MOS and we could get Tanaka's KOS-MOS art on the figurine box realized in smash as well. However, it would sure feel strange to have two Xeno series in the pass so I guess that wont happen.
Man, I don't know how to refer to Pneuma any more. I'd ordinarily keep using the spoiler-avoidance name but given that everyone who plays Smash now knows her by her real name I fear that that might even be more spoilery. I guess calling her Pneuma in a Smash context and the spoiler-avoidance name in a Xenoblade context might be best? Also, I was originally Team Poppi but after mulling it over for a week or so I definitely think the purple skin is Weltall. The colour scheme matches up way more closely, and we all know Sakurai's usually pretty darn careful with his alt skin colour schemes.
I believe alt 6 was just a reference to Rex's master driver outfit since its all just basically white with blue and green highlights. Tho idk where the red would have come from could be just smash wanting it to pop more. Also sad there technically isn't a kos-mos alt, would have loved having that nod in there but guess this is as close as well get unless there saving her for later in the pass but heavily doubt it.
I think for the 6th palette, Pyra is the Xenogears while Mythra is Deus (with the black leggings potentially just trying to make a difference between the two and make it clear one is the antagonistic one) Edit: I got another one, this time for the 8th palette: what if, while Pyra is the Zohar from Xenosaga, Mythra was meant to ressemble XC2's equivalent of it known as the Conduit? The varying shades of grey could be trying to emphasize the greens of her core crystal through contrast while still referencing how bright the Conduit seems to be shining in its appearance, and the black leggings are just leftover from default, leaving the greens being kept as is to complete the look.
I remember thinking the black alt was a reference to Malos, but then I realised if they were gonna reference Malos, they'd probavly use something closer to the Carbon Mythra DLC costume.
I think for #7, Pyra is supposed to represent the Monado 1/2, and Mythra is supposed to represent Zanza's Monado. All the colours are there, and Zanza's Monado is basically the unsealed version of that Monado, and it goes with the theme of Mythra being the unsealed version of Pyra.
That Pyra costume that you said was bothering you has some resemblance to the Pneuma-like costume that you mentioned earlier that is in Xenoblade 2 just minus the mint green hair.
so a thing that is weird with the gormotti hoody pyra uses in xc2is that the ears are the wrong way. gormotti have the ears looking to the sides, but the hoody has the hears looking to the front.
I think that Alt 5 is referenced after Persona 5/P5 Strikers, and I think this because at the same day Pyra and Mythra were released, people who bought P5 Strikers(Which I believe launched on the same day as Pythra) got a spirit from P5 Strikers.
Honestly the alts are the only thing I was disappointed with about Pyra and Mythra. I was really hoping that we'd get alts that referenced their other party members in XC2 similar to how shulks alts reference his. They could keep the pneuma alt, color swap alt, and add in alts for all of the XC2 party members and still have an extra alt left to do whatever they want with. I personally would have preferred that a lot more than "colors that pop" and silver and gold.

Well i believe in xenogears there are more than one Weltall. You have Fei's Weltall, his transformed Weltall-ID that is the true form of it. You also have Graph's or-Weltall an might be the original weltall that fei's is based from that actually reminds me of the evil costumes. Also you could say that Pyra's design is for Fei's Weltall, while Mythra's is for Graph's Or-weltall. I actually this the Second to last costume change for Pyra might be Weltall-ID as it has mostly a red design, with some gold on the armor, but also it produces several blue energy wings that are quite close to the blue color too. Also the sixth I think it was costume for Mythra has a similar color scheme to Esmeralda an her gear Crescens, or even Elle really in color scheme.

Okay, I've already beaten XBC2 and its DLC... Who is "Catalyst"?
@Alex Freeman-Day Ah right, forgot about that nickname. The color scheme didn't jump out to me as that.
I wish one of pyra's alternate outfits was the gormotti hoodie she wore to not stand out it would have been cute
Also Mythra in a yellow/white gormotti hoodie would be awesome.
tbh the darkish purple outfits did remind me of Malos at first
