  • Shaolin Luohan Style Qi Gong (Shi San Shi Luohan) is a set of movements that was developed, after contemplating and imitating different forms and expressions of the famous 13 Luohan (Arhat) of Shaolin.
It belongs to the classic repertoire of Qi Gong exercises that are practised in the Shaolin Temple Europe. As presented in this video, the practice emphasises the development of better body coordination and increasing the sensibility of opposing and dynamic forces. Together with the other Qi Gong sets, this routine supports the development of a strong foundation for health and martial purposes.
Speaker - Master Shi Heng Yi
    About Master Shi Heng Yi
Shi Heng Yi belongs to the 35th Generation of Shaolin Masters. He is the headmaster of the Shaolin Temple, where he teaches kung fu martial arts and methods to develop unity of the body and mind.

These are great exercises, albeit taken a bit out of context here. It's much better to do the full sets rather than parts. Check the full set of Ba Duan Jin (8 pieces of brocade) and the 5 Wu Song (loosening exercises). These are all freely available here on RUclips. You find softer versions of the same exercises in other Qi gong schools. But IMO, Shaolin Qi gong is best! It's harder to do, even painful, but the rewards are also much greater.

He is doing the original version of 8 Brocade here as taught by Boddhidarma, the first patriarch of Chan Buddhism in China. Other 8 Brocade are only variation of the original. The slow stretching is needed to facilitate qi flow in the meridian and to dissolve qi blockage.

There are different versions of the 8 Brocade Movement Qigong exercise, but the Shaolin ‘s slow motion gives time for the body meridians to stretch and relax to prevent and resolve energy blockage and pump the qi flow from the meridian to the organs to sustain life. This is most effective in disease prevention and deep healing. 8 Brocade as demonstrated here was the original form first taught by Bodhidharma, the first Chinese Chan Buddhist patriarch to the Shaolin monks in the 5th century.

Yes, but there's still a difference between Tai Chi qi gong and Shaolin Qi gong, in the intention and the execution of the exercises. Shaolin is much harder, pushing the body and the mind to their limits every time you exercise. The benefits of Shaolin are better because of that. To maintain good health, Tai Chi is great. To heal yourself, even serious conditions, Shaolin is the solution. These guys have done nothing else for 1500 years! They know more about the human body, mind, and spirit than all our Western disciplines put together.

Started Shoalin age 7 years old. I have practiced many arts but could not practice when I broke my back !!
27yrs using a 👩‍🦼. I started "baby leg movements" literally I had to learn my body how to move without incredible pain. Eventually I was able to sit up in a chair and began "chair Tai chi" or thinking hands. Shoalin has always been part of my life but it was the philosophy of Nietzsche that gave me the determination to succeed or die trying. Everyone says I must have very good karma because I'm healed ! I was in a special home for sick people basically waiting for the end !
No operations were possible / far too much damage and too much risk to be operated on 😔
I beat the odds ! I can live again because even if everyone else gave up on me? I didn't and now practice Taijiquan daily. Your mind can be incredibly powerful or self destructive !
    You must choose your path

Where's the bit with the hands as displayed on the video picture? Where are the rest of the exercises? Why isn't each exercise as descriptive as the last? How many repetitions are required for each, the last one states 8, is it the same for the first three?
Also, a WARNING! Anyone who hasn't read up on breath control needs to be aware that holding the breath in such a way can damage your lungs. Especially if you breath in too deeply and hold. The most important thing required for safe practise of breath control is DO NOT STRAIN! If you struggle to hold the breath with full lungs, work up to it, just as you would any physical exercise. Weight lifters don't start training by lifting weights they cannot handle. Breath control is the same, DON'T FORCE IT. Why is this very important detail not mentioned?

I am starting to run out of patience with this uploader, and I fear that making an official complaint might be inevitable. That would be a pity because much of the content is fine. I practice QiGong every day, and the benefits are undeniable, but there is no such thing as a "miracle". In another video, sick people are told that they "don't need a doctor" (Potentially dangerous advice) and that by doing this or that "Every cell will be fixed" (Whatever "fixed" means). It is very dishonest and irresponsible nonsense that can bring the legitimate practice of QiGong into disrepute. A QiGong teacher should not be using the sales techniques or the outrageous language of a Snake Oil Scammer.
