It will be so worth it... my childhood cat has been slowly but surely losing weight (my mom and younger siblings have been working with the vet to manage his weight). Now he is finally a healthy weight, and even though he is a senior, he is more playful and energetic than he's been in years! He is so happy and comfortable now. I will say, depending on Max's age, he may get loose skin. Just like in humans, the skin can have a hard time adapting to significant weight loss and it may not shrink with him. My childhood cat has extra skin. It doesn't bother him, just be mindful when grooming.
Thank you for adopting Max. He's a handsome boi and looks well cared for now. It's difficult to get cats to lose weight in a healthy manner-you're doing a great job! I had to do something similar with/for one of my cats. She lived a long time. I miss her every day. Give Max a tummy scritch for me.

This cat cleared the five stages of grief in regards to the dryer. Seeing him with his face squished into the corner, radiating pure resignation, made me giggle.

So incredibly cool to see how his entire body language changes depending on mood. Before the bath, he looked "normal". And he even wanted some belly scratching/rubs. yep plus the fact baths stress out cats and it isn't recommend you give your cat one because they can wash themselves unless its for medical reasons. for example your cat has no Toung and us uncapable to groom themselves then that's when you step in and give them baths and stuff.
@@ambertherainwing4761the problem with that is when they're senior cats and can't clean themselves that well you have to introduce them to baths. It's much better to introduce baths at a young age rather when they're 90 in cat years.
yeah i didnt understand that part. my family had a cat for almost 20 years and at times my father would just wet him with relatively cold water during hot summers where the cat would be visibly hot, strecthing on glass and stuff like that. and he would always dry relatively quickly. he first would just do a motion where half of the water would be thrown out, and then would lick himself almost dry. then quickly dry to completely. so 1. dont understand bathing unless for very specific reasons 2. dont understasnd drying, the cat of course is super stressed after that she can barely eat something because her nervous system is in distress@@ambertherainwing4761
he wasnt mad he was scared. why do people always think cats are angry when theyre not. its very clear how theyre feeling with their body language. fear and anger look very different, and its not like how dogs show it.
I got an elderly fat cat from the rescue. He weighed 25 lbs. We loved having Randolph. Moat loving and sweetest cat. He was with us for only 3 months and is still missed.
@@Stardust_Vega Randolph loved to lay on the AC vent and hog all the AC for the room. You would walk into a sweltering room to find Randolph happily sunning himself with the AC blowing on his belly. We put fans onto the vents to stop this.
Aww he looks like my old cat Mickey, I adopted him at 9 years old, he was 26lbs. Got him down to about 16 after strict diet and exercise/play. He used to protest outside my bedroom door for crunchies at night and would sit on my face in the morning to wake me up for breakfast. He miraculously made it to 16. I loved him so much.
My Liam got up to around 22 lbs. But he is really long and tall so even his vet didn't think he looked fat at all. Of course, when he was diagnosed as a diabetic, we worked on getting his weight down. In February when he had dental surgery he was done to 18 lbs 9 oz. He was able to stop insulin about 7 months after he was diagnosed.
We had a 20 lbs cat. He wasn't fat, he was just so dang long and tall. He was FOOD MOTIVATED to the max. He figured out that he would get fed at 5pm when my dad came home from work. So at 4pm, he'd cry at me, and cry and cry, so I'd fed him. An hour later, he'd cry and cry and cry to my dad, as if I'd starved him. My dad told me I really needed to start feeding him earlier. I suddenly realized how long this had been going on and I just stared at this cat. Clever boy....
My roommate's chunky orange tabby (he is also long and tall - but he is carrying a little too much, despite her best efforts with him) will do something similar. Knowing cats are like this, when I feed him in the afternoon I'll tell my roommate when she gets home "Don't believe his lies."
My cat did that also except he did that to everyone in the house. Heck even my when my grandparents would visit he would go to my grandma and act like we didn't feed him.
@@QuantumWaltz my chunky orange tabby does the exact same thing 😂 He’ll even change his meows every once in a while when you can finally tune out the sound of the previous one
Oh my god, I died at that ending, lol. The haughty way he tried to deny what you clearly knew he wanted, then bopped his mouth with the food until he begrudgingly took a nibble was just perfect 😅
Also got a rescue cat (many years ago, he's an ol fifteen or so year old gremlin now haha) and he really liked belly-rubs. Might be somethin' that's more common with 'em. Wanting extra love to make up for missing out.
as a new pet groomer i would _love_ to get a kitty like Max in on our shops cat days lol. even at his most angry Max is an absolute saint compared to literally every cat i've worked on so far. also, i've been watching your videos for quite some time now and you're the biggest reason i started pursuing pet grooming to start with. i'm so glad i did it, nearly a full month in and it's best first job i could ever have asked for, thank you Vanessa! ❤
Lol, I wonder if when he loses weight this cat will still just be bigger than others. some cats are just made big. My vet has a big orange cat that lives in the office and it is like 18 pounds but the vet says he is actually only a couple pounds overweight rn! he is just a little lion naturally lol
My top moments of the video:- 1- when she was surprised and showed genuine confusion at why and how the cat let her touch it's belly. 2- The revenge of the cat on the hair dryer with one legendary swipe of his paw. 3- when he was mad at the end 😂
Oh man, Max reminds me so much of one of my previous cats, Stanley. The chungy stature, the belly rubs, the 'I'm not cool with any of what's happening to me but actually doing anything about it would be too much work' attitude. Stanley-man loved his belly rubs...gosh I miss my grumpy ol' man cat.
What a cute baby. My own kitty, Nugget, was born on the streets but she's such a sweetheart. Head rubbies, chin skritchies, and belly pats until my hand falls off lol. She's also a little mischief maker and Queen of the top of the fridge 😅
Well to be fair, he's not on the "Oh lawd he's comin'!" end of the chart! He's adorable and looks really cuddlesome ❤ Top marks to the new owners for taking on such a challenge. I'm sure they're going to be 100% successful and he'll become absolutely purr-fect!
He's such a gentle and well manored cat! His meows very super pretty, and he actually tried to communicate with you instead of having a fit 😂 No doubt he has become a wonderful addition to his new family!
I have a big boy too! He is slowly losing weight and the only way we can tell is that he is becoming more active, he doesn't really look smaller. At his last vet visit, while he was exploring the room, he laid down for the vet and showed her his belly for belly rubs. We were all blown away. Max kind of reminds me of him.
From bad owners to good owners. No one should let their cat get this big. I am so happy that whoever adopted him is taking care of his health and coat. I loved this video, you are so kind and sweet to all animals you encounter! I wish there were more people like you in the world.
It's not always a bad owner. A neighbor of mine once had undiagnosed short term memory loss, she just thought she was ditzy. Her cat gained 16 lbs in it's first year. She would literally forget she had fed him 2 hrs earlier and her was happy to be a glutton.
There are also other factors. Spayed male cats are known to be likely to get fat super fast. I used to have a big, outdoor cat, super active, the only time he lost weight was at 15 when he was dying and wouldn't ingest food anymore. He was also a race of cats that tends to get fat easily (used to be breeded for their fur centuries ago). I now have two cats that are on the slim side despite having the same diet. (Maybe catfood got better over time too)
I don't want to hear anything about cats being overweight have bad owners I had 2 cats that were way overweight one lived to 19 and the other 21 and I currently have a 25 pound cat who's 17 And there is so many factors to why they could be that big not just a bad owner
Overall I think Max handled the whole process well. 👏 I'm always amazed seeing cats getting bathed. Years ago I bathed 2 of my cats (they'd rolled in something stinky). The part persian just sat there unphased (she liked a belly rub too). The tabby tried to kill me.
10,4 kilograms! He's a hefty chonk. Hope he'll get to his target weigh without problems! It warms my heart when people adopt pets with troubles so they can help them 💜 We got our family dog when he was two ears old. He was shaped like a thick, short sausage... Since my family has a farm, he had a nice large fenced yard around the house, and along with daily walks everyone threw him the ball when they walked past or through the yard. He loved the exercise and slimmed down quite fast! He's now nine years old, and we have to tell him to stop running at times, especially during summer. He's in a good shape and luckily doesn't have any problems with his joints or hips. (A friendly reminder that trying to lose weight too fast can be even harder for their joints than just the strain of the extra weight. Be patient, and ask a vet for advise if you're unsure.) It truly saddens me to see overweight animals. They are meant to be active! It's not normal for them to stop after a few steps because they are already out of breath and it's uncomfortable or even painful to move with such much extra weight.
@@n7quantum472 she said using it for toe bean massages. for some cats, their little toe pads on the bottoms of their feet (which are not covered in fur but thick skin) actually benefit from applying extra lotion and moisture. don't want their cute little toes to get dry and crack, which can cause problems.

This 😂😂😂 it's so true and so friggin cute 😂
I love how he stretches his leg to help Vanessa get to those hard to reach areas. He's showing so much trust in her.
This cat is MAGICAL. He is respectful, calm, and most of the time doesn't go absolutely CRAZY like most cats do. He's a good boi :)
I love how you told the cat, "Stay." 😂
"I'm a cat! I don't know what that word means!"
@milkandcereal same. They know the word stop and no but sometimes dont care to listen.
"I don't take orders from my staff!"
@milkandcereal My cat is smart AF! he can catch sit, roll over, lie down, give me paw & play dead when i point fingerguns at him.. he also is an escape artist😅
an climbs Too Much😩an i’m fairly certain he has been hunting the squirrels in our area..😪
cuz there used to be a jolly family of squirrels and chipmunks which devoured seeds/nuts from our bird feeder.. now there’s only 1 chunky boy left when they used to be like 3-4….😳 he’s gotten into fights with skunks & opossums so now we keep him inside.. The 1 thing he refuses to do is walk on a leash tho unfortunately..
@milkandcereal yeah ultimately cats are intelligent and can learn commands, people usually just dont try to teach them
So incredibly cool to see how his entire body language changes depending on mood. Before the bath, he looked "normal". And he even wanted some belly scratching/rubs. After getting dried, I could see how he was more or less in a defensive stance continuously, tail curled right up beside the body and *that facial expression*. And no more belly rubs. He was clearly so pissed, that he denied treats only further showed just *how* mad he was.
yep plus the fact baths stress out cats and it isn't recommend you give your cat one because they can wash themselves unless its for medical reasons. for example your cat has no Toung and us uncapable to groom themselves then that's when you step in and give them baths and stuff.
@@pradyum1851 ok that actually makes sense thank you for telling me something i didnt know!
he wasnt mad he was scared. why do people always think cats are angry when theyre not. its very clear how theyre feeling with their body language. fear and anger look very different, and its not like how dogs show it.
I love the fact that at some point he just gave up against the wind blower 😂😂😂
I got an elderly fat cat from the rescue. He weighed 25 lbs. We loved having Randolph. Moat loving and sweetest cat. He was with us for only 3 months and is still missed.
You gave him a wonderful three months ❤
Condolences ❤️❤️❤️
Aww Randolph 🥺
@@Stardust_Vega Randolph loved to lay on the AC vent and hog all the AC for the room. You would walk into a sweltering room to find Randolph happily sunning himself with the AC blowing on his belly.
We put fans onto the vents to stop this.
@@intorainbowzOG 😂😂😂
Aww he looks like my old cat Mickey, I adopted him at 9 years old, he was 26lbs. Got him down to about 16 after strict diet and exercise/play. He used to protest outside my bedroom door for crunchies at night and would sit on my face in the morning to wake me up for breakfast. He miraculously made it to 16. I loved him so much.
Me as a cat
May He Rest In Peace 💚
😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️
What a chonk little baby ❤❤❤ the posture of total indignation in the happy hoodie 😂 I’m in love
Wait a second, he doesn't do agilty the normal way but does climb cupboards and open fridges...how has nobody tried to Kung Fu Panda train him????
My Liam got up to around 22 lbs. But he is really long and tall so even his vet didn't think he looked fat at all. Of course, when he was diagnosed as a diabetic, we worked on getting his weight down. In February when he had dental surgery he was done to 18 lbs 9 oz. He was able to stop insulin about 7 months after he was diagnosed.
Maine coon?

He’s a treasure! I’m glad he’s with new owners who are safely bringing his weight down to a healthy level.
He was the goodest of chonky boyz! Even that paw swipe was fairly polite lol. Love you Max!
What a ferocious counter attack! I'm glad you survived, Ness.
Love how modest he was. This cat has intelligence and charm.
I love how you meow back at them, it's what I always feel the urge to do as well and I don't know why. It's such a perfectly imitated meow too
I will say, it's hard to be a cat that's been given up and wasn't properly cared for. Hopes for many good years with his new owners....
Has the cat given up, or was he spoiled by the previous owner?
@CAP198462: he was given up, as in he was surrendered to the animal shelter, not that he’s personally given up.
@@CAP198462 being spoiled isn't being fat. You can pamper your cat. Letting them get that big is harming.
@@derbagger22 i wouldn’t have suggested that if I hadn’t known people who had cats that they fed treats constantly.
He's already lost 5Ilbs , according to the new owners who adopted him & posted further up. Hopefully he's going to have a fabulous life now.
Aww ... It's not your fault, Max! Good on your people for adopting. You have a very expressive face!
What a precious guy. And hopefully soon he will be a precious ‘lil’ guy
This is the most well behaved cat being bathed I have ever seen. He's such a sweetheart and there's so much of him.

That cat is so heavy, he doesn’t chase mice, they get caught in his gravitational field.
2:12 Keeps that up he's either going to break a leg or drop ten pounds.
Oh my god, I died at that ending, lol. The haughty way he tried to deny what you clearly knew he wanted, then bopped his mouth with the food until he begrudgingly took a nibble was just perfect 😅
“The circumference of a Ferris wheel”! I just cracked up. What a great description, and what a nice-natured cat. 🇨🇦💕
poor Max, he was such a good boy. Didnt deserve all that slander. Hes just a little chonk
This 23 lb furball made me laugh the entire time 😂 Especially the "I can't say no to a treat" bite and hateful look 😂
Meatball, you mean.

"I've never seen a cat roll over for belly rubs" you clearly haven't met my kitty 😂 that boy LOVES belly rubs. He falls asleep to em!
My cats also love belly rubs, but only from me. They would never let a stranger touch them.
Mine greets me at the door with rollies and won't let me come in until I scritch her belly
Also got a rescue cat (many years ago, he's an ol fifteen or so year old gremlin now haha) and he really liked belly-rubs. Might be somethin' that's more common with 'em. Wanting extra love to make up for missing out.
One of my boys adores having his belly brushed. He sees a brush in someone's hand and immediately rolls over.
@@mikethetowns maybe! Mine were/are all rescues and love their belly rubs
That is the most polite and tolerant cat I have seen in my life. Look at this fine gentleman, so floof
as a new pet groomer i would _love_ to get a kitty like Max in on our shops cat days lol. even at his most angry Max is an absolute saint compared to literally every cat i've worked on so far.
also, i've been watching your videos for quite some time now and you're the biggest reason i started pursuing pet grooming to start with. i'm so glad i did it, nearly a full month in and it's best first job i could ever have asked for, thank you Vanessa! ❤
omg this is so cool, it's awesome she's inspiring pet groomers and teaching them! this is hard work, good luck and take care of yourself!
What a hecking chonker! An absolute unit! I wish his new owners good fortune as they help this handsome man become healthier boy
I was just about to compliment him for his calmness, but then blow dryer took place😭. Cute kitty
Hoping him the best on his weight loss journey
Lol, I wonder if when he loses weight this cat will still just be bigger than others. some cats are just made big. My vet has a big orange cat that lives in the office and it is like 18 pounds but the vet says he is actually only a couple pounds overweight rn! he is just a little lion naturally lol
Max seems like such a tolerant cat, didn't look as if his kitty timer was even ticking.
Bruh my cat acts like a dog I'll walk up to her and she rolls over and starts purring wanting infinite belly rubs
My top moments of the video:-
1- when she was surprised and showed genuine confusion at why and how the cat let her touch it's belly.
It is the owners who need shaming!
His weight is from the previous owners, his owners now immediately put him on a diet when they got him.
2:26 OHHH THAT FACEE 🥺

What a cute baby. My own kitty, Nugget, was born on the streets but she's such a sweetheart. Head rubbies, chin skritchies, and belly pats until my hand falls off lol. She's also a little mischief maker and Queen of the top of the fridge 😅
Oh my gosh, why do I watch these at work? His head flips at 1:56 has me dyyying right now... 🤣🤣🤣

That’s how my cat built
His lil face pushed up against the rage cage! 🥺 what a beautiful boy, and lucky to have a wonderful new family!
What a sweetie! The way he snubbed you at the end was hilarious. I wish him the best on his weight loss journey!
*takes treat* "I will take this, but I'm very offended by it"
From bad owners to good owners.
(Maybe catfood got better over time too)
I don't want to hear anything about cats being overweight have bad owners I had 2 cats that were way overweight one lived to 19 and the other 21 and I currently have a 25 pound cat who's 17
And there is so many factors to why they could be that big not just a bad owner
If you overfeed them, that makes you a bad owner. Time to face the music. @@hallsrelief2791

I love how Vanessa is like the friendly neighbor you could trust help with your plants and pets when you leave for a vacation-

Overall I think Max handled the whole process well. 👏 I'm always amazed seeing cats getting bathed. Years ago I bathed 2 of my cats (they'd rolled in something stinky). The part persian just sat there unphased (she liked a belly rub too). The tabby tried to kill me.
My Persian tortie tried to murder me for daring to put her in water to kill her fleas -the collar wasn't doing enough
My cat doesn't like them and always tries to scape but the mortar sin to try to towel dry him, it hiss and even imitated an angry bull once
My tabby would wails an cry but he kept getting dirty.
What gorgeous markings! I'm so glad he's in good care with his new family! You can do it, Max!
Imagine getting adopted because your previous family just couldn’t care less just to be called fat and shamed for being round. What a wild life.
10,4 kilograms! He's a hefty chonk. Hope he'll get to his target weigh without problems! It warms my heart when people adopt pets with troubles so they can help them 💜
We got our family dog when he was two ears old.
Be patient, and ask a vet for advise if you're unsure.)
It truly saddens me to see overweight animals. They are meant to be active! It's not normal for them to stop after a few steps because they are already out of breath and it's uncomfortable or even painful to move with such much extra weight.
Vanessa: cat needs to lose weight!
Also Vanessa: *gives him treats*
I love him! ❤

You used lotion to pet your cat? Bit weird ngl.
was the lotion for medical reasons or????
@@n7quantum472 she said using it for toe bean massages. for some cats, their little toe pads on the bottoms of their feet (which are not covered in fur but thick skin) actually benefit from applying extra lotion and moisture. don't want their cute little toes to get dry and crack, which can cause problems.
