I am 60 years old and I did 18 hours of gardening over three days, pulling out 220kg of vines. May 9 to 11 The next day it took me an hour to get out of bed. Saw a chiropractor May 12 and this morning May 13 I got out of bed no problem, an hour later I was totally stiff and sore to move,
Found your video May 13 and wow I got instant relief after five minutes. Thank you so much from Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦

Thanks for the video , very helpful . I was outside trying to finish up some siding and was on a ladder .my lower back locked up with horrible spasms, I had to crawl all the way around the house to get in .I thought I was going to lay outside until my wife came home from work .your stretches are helping slowly , I cant thank you enough for posting this video . I am a very fit man 6ft. 5 inches 230 pounds and for me to have to crawl all the way to the front of this house sucked bad .I could not stand at all , sorry I'm talking to much .

Seated extension exercise worked like a magic. I'm not at the point where I can't move yet. But I have had back spasms before, so I know that any wrong move could put me in that position. I did the exercise in about 10 minutes and felt the softening immediately. Thank you.

I had a car accident 5 yrs ago and since then when I get a bad cold with congestion that puts me in bed for a week or Covid like this last time, I end up with back spasms once I recover. They are so bad I cannot get out of bed with out my hiking poles. It takes me 5 minutes to get up and down the stairs. These simple techniques have helped. I was coming to similar conclusions with the breathing but the exercises helped a lot. Thank you

Started miving and massage on day 3 (today). Decided to look up videos for lower back pain/ spasms and came across yours.
I will be doing these exercises. Thanks for the confirmation of my instinct to rest and ice first. Thanks for this video.

I m facing back spasms and which don't let me have a sit in the normal chair position. And i found the problem when i was carrying a 20kg luggage with all one hand straight like we hold dumbbell set in gym. And otherside i was holding my 2 years old neice. And after that day it all begun. And today, it's been 7 days i was ignoring it but now i can't wait to deal it. Thank for your videos. I m following you. Hope this will kill my pain on the left side of my waist.

I got cramps because of my bad sleeping habits. I kept my body in the right side the whole night after a big day and the next day, I got cramps in the left waist. Well my kid daughter slept behind my back. So she unknowingly put me in a bit tight position and I got the spasm. I guess now you'll understand the situation.
The third exercise that you showed is actually my favourite in normal times. But it backfired in this time. My pain worsen. If I lay down in the same position that got me the cramps, I actually don't feel much pain so when I go to sleep, in go to that position without my knowledge and make it worse. It became tiresome to do things, so I feel like laying down every now and then. It's so tempting to lay down a bit.
Tell me about sleeping position and if I should do something else.
Ok the third one is bridge exercise.

First time in my entire life to experience extremely unbearable pain yesterday April 20th. I was standing front of a mirror just after a quick shower, when one sharp pain on my lower back shocked me, I couldn’t take a single step, every little movement will hurt, good is that my phone was beside me so I called my husband to come home immediately, after 15 minutes I’m still in the same place not moving, I sat on the bed and I cried because my lower back hurt that it can’t support my upper body. Until we decided to call an ambulance because I can’t walk to the car. Now it still hurt but better than yesterday. Btw I just had c section delivery a month ago that makes me really scared because my surgery is still healing.

I have had back spasms for more than 50 years and obviously I tried everything. I found that heat actually helps and I used to use ice packs which I stopped because the recover.y could be up to a month or more and complete agony. Heat patches, hot water bottles covered of course , is a much more effective way of treating my muscle spasms in my back and I have crossed off the list ice. So I don’t agree with your findings suggesting ice. I think if you have an injury this can be useful but not for my type of muscle spasms. What I want to know is what causes it and how it can be prevented as the pain sends me through the roof when they are in crisis and it is disabling as I can not move.

Thanks, Bob, Great information. Would you say if you have a disc bulges your chances is higher to get a back spasm? Thanks

    • @bobthephysio
      @bobthephysio  3 года назад

Not necessary because of the disc bulges, but it might be more common because of the way that you over protect your back. What I mean is in many cases, my clients are avoiding some movements and afraid to bend or lift or do anything to challenge their back and that makes them to become over protective and get a spasm with a minimal movement of activity. Does that make sense? Bob

@@bobthephysio I am in this boat right now. I tried a bit of yoga, but the slightest twinge feel of the muscles starting to tighten just puts me off trying to strengthen the back again. I was doing some exercises fine, then a few days later the same exercises twinged my back. It’s so hard to get anyway. I will try these initially and again try to build.

I had a muscle tear in lower back 2 n half months before, I did MRI. I got to know I have a disc bulge too. I took bed rest for 1 month and took physiotherapy 10 sessions. Now I have very bad leg cramps ( left) and hip line pain ( left side) . This hip pain ( waist line) and leg cramps driving me so badly :( I'm kinda depressed.
I'm just following your video and doing extension excercise and breathing excercise at home.
      My MRI report says :
      1) L5 -s1 shallow broad based centric disc protrusion, causing minimal thecal compression.
      2) L4- 5 disc annular bulge, also causing minimal thecal compression.
Please give me solution for left leg cramps and hip joint pain( at hip line left side)
I'll be waiting for your reply

So about 4 days ago my left side started hurting. IF I move a certain way or jolt it hurts and I tighten up and then it hurts way worse. Is this what you are considering a spasm? I was thinking kidneys but I'm have no other pains and it Def feels like it's in the muscle.

thank you for this video. i've been getting reoccurring low back spasm...march 1, 2021, may 9, 2021, november 15, 2021, and january 23, 2022 for NO reason! i have learned, like you said, the CNS has turned up the volume. i found your video in november, and have been doing well. the pain has persisted, but at a very low level, and i have maintained my activity level (mainly walking 30 minutes 6 days/week, and 30 minutes of resistance training on the total gym. my question...since it's not an injury, not acute, is using heat, very light self-massage, and walking/total gym okay to continue??? i was confused by your HARM protocol since another PT i found on YT who has similar recommendations to yours, does recommend heat and light self-massage. thank you again.

Thank you for your kind words. I’ve made the new video that uploaded last week that will answer your questions. Please watch my last video : ) in regards to harm protocol, it will only use in acute phase. In your case you have had this issue for a while. My suggestion is to gradually increase your daily activities and progress your routine. Your back Is Strong structure and the only way to improve it is with using it :) 💪 Bob

I went to see chiropractor and was advised to apply ice pack for 10mins at the lower back twice a day for 10mins to reduce pain. Pain comes on and off which starts from buttock and radiates down the leg pinching my nerves whereby my leg feels weak and fatigue. Not doing any rehab program except some exercises like forearm plank, glute bridge and side planks and fast walking to sweat it out.

I experience discomfort when doing high impact lower body exercises eg jumping, deadlift, running, leg press, burpee, etc. Off and on whilst standing too long the legs feel fatigue with nerve pinching effect from butt. When I sneeze I can also feel an impact on lower back too.

    HELLO BOB:
I am a Classical Pilates Person and use the Method to keep myself Fit. More recently I have started to get involuntary muscles spasms in the right side
of my back, it affects the lower rib cage area; mid back and between my scapula and spine. It manifests itself as a sudden grabbing feeling, that can cause both sides of the posterior ribs to pull in towards each other and after a few seconds releases. NOT SURE WHAT EXERCISES TO DO THAT WILL RELEASE THE MUSCLES AND HEAL THEM? It is not like chronic or acute back pain, simply involuntary sudden muscle contractions - gripping. Have you come across this and how to effectively fix it through movement? MY FINGERS ARE CROSSED BOB!
