Dr. McGill is the legend! I fixed my own Spondylolisthesis and Scoliosis using his protocols and pilates workout. Shout out to Huberman Lab for bringing him on!!
@@Dynamicdiscdesigns haha… I only said it that way because he has certain catchphrases and the way he credits your excellent company whenever he uses one of your models is one of them (also I had never heard the word “biofidelic” until he said it lol)
As someone literally standing at a computer with a heating pad on due to a forward bend injury with an already deteriorated L4, this was so amazingly insightful my mind is blown. Those anatomical demonstrations are invaluable. Thanks so much.
I damaged that same nerve root during childbirth, my leg and foot was numb for 3 months after giving birth. Thanks for showing me exactly how that might have happened to me
I would love to know how to treat upper back pain. I have an l4-l5 fusion and for the most part I don't have pain down there anymore (only when sleeping wrong or when it's cold) but because I can't arch my low back to stand up straight it's causing issues with my posture and pretty bad pain in my thoracic spine between my shoulders.
This is for me! Thank you both 🎉As a ballroom/salsa dancer 💃 I depend on your podcasts to keep me moving and in the best shape and health. The quality of this information is top notch. I’m starting the Big 3.
I actually use his "play shortstop" method when lifting things. I try to emphasize keeping my spine straight because it automatically forces you to use the hips
Fabulous and the truth shall set you free been looking for this help for years suffering from facet joint pain it also eases the fear that build's up with these problems
Huberman's a neurologist and thought the spinal cord ran through the disc? Okay then... In any case, I was assessed in March for my lower back pain from a McGill therapist. There is no magic dust with the McGill method. 6 months of serious discipline following the program. I'm improving after 2.5 years of various modalities, but I say at this rate, I feel I have another year before I get up in the morning with no pain and can return to my normal life so long as I put in the time. For two years I was chasing a solution but I have to say the McGill method is the only one where there is a scientific approach where there's a proper program where you can accelerate based on symptoms. So long as you get assessed because the origin of one's lower back pain differs from person to person and only the assessment can isolate the root cause.
I get exactly the sort of pain he explains at 11:00 when lean back and drop one shoulder back, but what should I do about it then? I have no pain in forward bending.
Avoid over extending. My takeaway from McGills work is to try and maintain lower lumbar stability and get range of motion from hips, shoulders, thoracic spine, not lumbar spine. What you want to avoid is further exacerbating the facet joints so the bone doesn’t spur and there’s the arthritis he described where there’s less space for nerve roots.
I had hoped for more from this interview He seemed to refer to the usual stories and answers from previous episodes. Perhaps 5-10 mins of "new" stuff that would help someone in pain, if they are not already familiar with his material
Hmm...where does this leave those of us with Scoliosis and also back pain? I doubt that I could (or rather, should) do exercises willy nilly with an S curved spine...
It's old theory that extruded part of nucleus pulposus is going to go back inside of the disc. The pressure inside of the disc does not allow that to happen. What can happen is that extruded part of nucleus can get reapsorbed by body following inflamatory response. Discs heal slowly because of lack of blood supply but outer layer of anulus fibrosus has some ability to repair by scar tissue. And discs exchange matter by moving because they are like sponge so when squizzed they release liquid and then absorb it back inside exchanging nutrients. In that way healing of discs can happen, and not by always being stiff and not moving at all. Pain is guiding your movement, and over time when extruded part gets smaller your back nerves become less sensitive and you are pain free
Hello! I'm a Surgical Technologist who specialized in spine surgery for 7 years before moving on to orthopedic/total joints. I also have a low back injury from work that rears it's ugly head every couple years. Pain down the back of the leg, then wraps around front to the top of my foot. I'm 36, ex polevaulter, dancer, volleyball player, but still run (short fast, endurance running not my thing) stay active, work out and doing PT helps. When asked what makes my back feel better I say "not working". People laugh, but I'm totally serious! Outside work I feel great and can do almost anything. At work, (very stressful job) I get flair ups and don't feel my best. Is there something mental going on that I can work on?
I refurbish paver patios, driveways and retaining walls. I got a bulging L5, S1 and the big 3 combined with going to my chiropractor and a steroid pack seems to be working great. Walking a lot too so I don't get stiff...I don't like taking any pills and so far just ibuprofen a couple times. Also previously was following a powerlifting style plan then crashed a motorcycle and broke my femur, humerus, radius and ulna bones which physical therapy and my chiropractor along with creating a pain-loving beast mindset to tap into really makes me think without greed, very few people would be on all these pain pills.
"all in the mind", "snap out of it" ,,,,, bad rehab by PTs who have never heard of McGill... Check out DR craig buhler nasal technique.. Another world class person
McGill the legend! I've been doing the McGill big 3 for a while, it's helped a lot
I have been following Stu Mcgill for years he is the GOAT
No doubt about it. No one is better. No ONE!
Dr. McGill is the legend! I fixed my own Spondylolisthesis and Scoliosis using his protocols and pilates workout. Shout out to Huberman Lab for bringing him on!!
Where did you find his pilates workout please? I also suffer from scoliosis and terrible back pain.
Loved the episode and was so excited that you had Dr. McGill on. His book helped me out many years ago.
Thank you for using our anatomical models. Hopefully, they helped explain some spinal concepts.
He will normally give you full credit for your "biophilic" designs and then throw in the caveat that he has no business interest in your company😂
@@bucksdiaryfan@bucksdiaryfan, we wish he did have a business interest.
They're extremely biofidelic and he uses them in every interview
Of course, no financial or referral implications.

Any help after laminectomy and spine fusion l am still in constant pain 6 months on
He got the memo on the dress code then?
😂😂😂
Real scientist draws no attention to himself - background is black, he needs camo, black it is.

When you wear back you can’t go wrong.

Both of you are the best!!! We cannot thank you enough!!!
Excellent. The detailed and moveable model makes it so much more instructive!
Glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful!
Ive been doing the big three exercises for a year and they’re so helpful
This is immensely helpful alongside reading Back Mechanic right now as I go through an intense back pain episode/injury, thank you both 🙏🏼
Hope you find relief in your pain. Keep it up!
¡Hola Profe!Fascinating!Props help a lot with understanding structure of our back. Thank You for all Your hard work and care for all of us

Dr andrew huberman is actually a god gifted child. Who makes us easily understand scientific stuff. Never thought I would love science

Great video.. thanks for sharing. Is there a rehabilitative movement for when the disc has less than 60% of its height?
This video is helpful. I wanted to see full video but it became private. Any idea when it will be public again ?
Is the Mac gill 3 any good after screws and rod surgery s1 L5 L4 fusion

He’s not a neurologist he’s a neuroscientist but yes he should know some anatomy😊
