Suddenly, after the Coheed song ended, it put on 'Writing on a Wall' and seeing as I did a lot of choral music in my school years, I was immediately intrigued. This was the hardest TDH album for me to get into initially. I brushed it off as nothing more than the B-sides to Act IV. Every album prior, I was able to get into them immediately and they got better and better each time I listened. This one took about 3-4 listens before I was able to appreciate how amazing it is. Now I I consider it one of the best albums in the Act Saga.
This was my intro, and I loved it from the off. Think Light was the first song I heard, then Revival, and that was enough to have me ordering. IV and V (recorded pretty much together I believe) collectively a masterpiece.

As a lot of others have, I have to sincerely thank you as well. I've spent a lot of money with the band between albums, merch, and shows, but haven't been able to purchase this album yet. I don't think Casey would mind, considering we're all fans and not just bums :-) Also, I'm glad you uploaded it as one long piece, because unlike the other Acts, this has lesser "standalone" tracks and really needs to be listened to in its entirety to fully appreciate it's magnitude (Just my personal opinion). It's incredible.
So grateful for you uploading this. I've been looking for this since it was first uploaded (and immediately taken down)... It's hard to say that this is my favorite act, but this is easily one of my favorite albums of all time. So much energy and creativity went into this masterpiece.
mariangoldenville well they kind of. Don't want fame. Tbh. They prefer to be more. Underground as more. Famous bands are more. Profit than actual music. While they do it only for music
Why would you compare this to Coldplay and Oasis? This is more like progressive rock. Prog is one of the best genres of music, because it's open to so much experimentation.
spagetti001 i know this is from a year ago but id like to say this regardless. Just because someone wants a band to be more successful doesn't mean he hates his whole generation.... your acting like hes on of those people that says "oh i wish i was born in another generation" but since hes talking about prog rock and not old rock its different, vastly so. Because hes talking about a band that is legitimately unknown and yet still modern, hes more just wishing that more people could hear this music since i doubt anyone who heard this would hate it.

This is my favorite album now. It used to be Act II because that's when I got into these guys so it had a place in my heart. This one was so good it slowly made it to the top. Which order do I show them to people now?

they only pressed so many copies back when they initially came out. i lost my original cd copies years ago and got lucky on ebay over the past 2 years finding sealed copies of act 1 and 2 but finding act 3 in any format is very hard. i have a sexy collection of sealed vinyl and cds from this band. they have been my favorite band since i started listening to them in 2008
@@WhoaD614 Nice :) Yeah, since my last post, I've manged to find used copies of Acts 1 and 2 on eBay for ~$20 each, but I still can't find Act 3, new or used.
It's funny how The Dear Hunter manages to be progressive and deep and advanced while remaining accessible and still not go on air once. Meanwhile, my otherwise conservative and unaware uncle endlessly enjoyed Act IV for his birthday. We all know this should be way above any of that trash out there. Either they don't want to get noticed, or somebody else doesn't. And don't come at me with other music being easier to grasp. This is less complicated than some really overtly progressive songs out there that had more success. The public is simply being kept from real art, because that's not only hard to make, but addicting.
Dallin Hunter The first time I listened to this, I closed my eyes and just imagined my idea of what the film would look like. I wish I could animate well too. I used to do LEGO stop motion on my other channel: Jedindy. I wish I had the time and money to make a “LEGO The Dear Hunter”. Maybe one day, a scene or a song.
Godamn music, that makes me think in all of the problems in the world, that makes me thought in travelling to oriental east, to join the red cross, to help the families that dies in the war... godamn music
Bless you. I can't get the album right now because I don't have access to a credit card, and it's nice to be able to listen while I try to rectify that issue. I just wish there was a way for you to monetize this for the band without it most likely getting taken down.
Yeah, sorry about that. Equal Vision Records claimed each song individually as opposed to the entire video, thus an ad during most transitions by the looks of it.
Maybe I just like the overall writing in the later works, but it goes Act V, Act IV, Act I, Act II, and Act III. I think Acts IV and V are masterpieces. Act III had some great moments but some of the writing was way too esoteric for me.
tonellojohn I feel this list. V is a mastetpiece, 4 and 1 are also amazing. 2 and 3 are also stellar but 3 dosnt compare to the rest of the acts. V, Color Spectrum, IV, I, II, III and then Migrant
Who am I? Who am I? Just a gambler. Holding aces in the devil's eyes. What is wrong? What's the sin? Where's the answer? Where the hell do I fit in? Or could it be there's just a little demon lost in the debris. And I should idly bide my time until the wager releases me. It can't remain unknown.
Honestly at first i didn't like this album all that much. But now. It's really starting to grow on me. I do want them. To release a non story album next instead of act 6 to raise hype for the conclusion of our story
I didn't really -listen- to it hardcore until after I read a synopsis of the story online. I think this album is actually both the climax and resolution of the story.
The color spectrum was pretty good although a few eps like blue indigo and white weren't appealing to me. I still prefer migrant thoe especially the bonus songs
Will someone put up a track list of song names with hyperlinks to the time stamps for each track? Pleaseeee I haven’t been able to buy this yet :[ but I intend to. I love TDH so much!! I’m immediately falling in love with this Act. I have all up them up to Act IV and somehow Act V snuck right by me and I didn’t find out about it until a week or two ago.
I'm not sure if it's the same woman that does the vocals in Act I. But I believe I read that the voices of The Moon/Awake were done by both Casey's mother and wife. Which is such a nice touch because I've always felt this was Hunter basically admitting to the Fiance/Wife character that he can't really give her the love she wishes to have from him, on top of reminiscing about a lot of things, including his days in The Lake with his mother.
I can't tell for the life of me what time signatures are used in Gloria. I know it starts in 6/8 and the chorus is in 4/4 but the verses are throwing me off. If anyone knows or figures out, help me out!
LUCAS CURTIS could be wrong, but it sounds like 6/8 all the way through with exception of the chorus to me. It's a little tough to hear in the verses through the creative work on the snare drum.
Prog Pop. Song based prog. Long form songs. Non formulaic music. Everything in all styles at once. Open your ears and your mind. Classical music performed by a rock band. Etc. if you like it it is the music with a magic that a name would stain. (Thanks PG)
Just a question: Is the Dear Hunter a Christian band? I've been a fan for a long time and I've noticed how much religious material has been added over time.
Auggie I think religion has a big role in the dear hunter story. What is a search for true love also includes questions of faith and of truth, how we suffer through life, mistakes and regret, growth, and anger. Possibly the character (or band member) was raised into religion and was very bitter about it as we go through the story.
Quite the opposite, actually. To my knowledge, Casey is agnostic, and whether or not he's had any personal experience with religion, it seems that any music he writes about it is to criticize it. I don't think he is a fan of organized religion, but the consideration of an afterlife is a common theme in his music I think (No God, A Beginning, Wait).
I remember Casey saying he was a Catholic to a Christian music website back when Act III was released. My guess is that he either changed and became agnostic or he keeps his beliefs to himself unless it is time to write lyrics. Either way, the story doesn't have anything religious in it other than The Pimp and The Priest despite the religious themes.
Brenden Patch But still, i dont like every time i want to hear a certain song: come here, check the time stamp and try to get it right... IN MOBILE ONLY. And in my country, the videos in the topic are blocked, sooo....
Ordinarily, I would. But doing it this way is a lot more convenient for me to make as it doesn't require having to edit the image length throughout each video. It also make the transitions a bit better. (Even though there are some mistakes in the transitions in this video). It seems better for the video itself, too, so if it gets taken down or flagged, it's much easier to re-upload.
it's funny because i was critical of the band at first...i found it to be pretentious..and i had to listen to acts 2 and 3 a few times to really get the feel of it... same for 4 and 5 really. now personally, i still love 2 the best..and this one, act 5, is fine....but i get with the styling that it is tough to like it ALL, even if you love the band.
Manny Been a fsn since 06. Act V is their best hands down. Next to Color spectrum, I like then act 1 alot. 2 3 and 4 are all on thr same level for me of good.
Dick Trickle honestly their first 3 albums were better if I had to say. The "classics" I like to say and then 4-6 wpild. Be more of the "new age" stuff. Although this album took the styles from all acts mainly 1 and 4 I really have noticed which is really cool how they put a lot in. Nostalgia I'm act 1
Out of possible interest I'm new to the band and listening to V for the first time with some focus. IV for me by far has been the best of the albums, I just keep on playing it over and over. I to III just hasn't captured my interest quite as much. But I will keep on listening to all the albums with intent.

NFR CheeZe I appreciate it! :D
Considering the individual videos of act 5 have all been taken down (?) This is beautiful.
I just realized the album cover has a man upside down in the tree. Interesting.
Almost as good as Act IV, really catchy songs I like the "blue grass" parts, they're a nice addition and fit really well with the whole album.
I wish I had heard of these guys sooner. I've bought this album, but the earlier ones are next to impossible to find on CD for a reasonable price.
they only pressed so many copies back when they initially came out. i lost my original cd copies years ago and got lucky on ebay over the past 2 years finding sealed copies of act 1 and 2 but finding act 3 in any format is very hard. i have a sexy collection of sealed vinyl and cds from this band. they have been my favorite band since i started listening to them in 2008
@@WhoaD614 Nice :) Yeah, since my last post, I've manged to find used copies of Acts 1 and 2 on eBay for ~$20 each, but I still can't find Act 3, new or used.
Saw them open for Coheed April 27 GAIBSIV tour. So good
Ian Prescott aaaaaaa I was there!! Such a good performance from both of them
Did I just find another Coheed fan?
@@theadancrimson845 The Dear Hunter is FAR superior to Coheed
One person's opinion does not make fact
god The March is so goddamn fucking epic
It's funny how The Dear Hunter manages to be progressive and deep and advanced while remaining accessible and still not go on air once. Meanwhile, my otherwise conservative and unaware uncle endlessly enjoyed Act IV for his birthday. We all know this should be way above any of that trash out there. Either they don't want to get noticed, or somebody else doesn't. And don't come at me with other music being easier to grasp. This is less complicated than some really overtly progressive songs out there that had more success. The public is simply being kept from real art, because that's not only hard to make, but addicting.
All is As All Should Be!
I know exactly how I would turn this album into a short film, time it to the music, and tell the story lyric for lyric. If only I could animate.
Regress sounds like a mix of Genesis and Danny Elfman lol
Bless you. I can't get the album right now because I don't have access to a credit card, and it's nice to be able to listen while I try to rectify that issue.
I just wish there was a way for you to monetize this for the band without it most likely getting taken down.
I know exactly how you're feeling.
gloria makes me want to fall in love, I absoluletly adore this song
This....Shit.....is.....soooo....goooooodddd.....
CASEYYYY
I've come to this video multiple times and never gotten hit by those ads. bummer.
Yeah, sorry about that. Equal Vision Records claimed each song individually as opposed to the entire video, thus an ad during most transitions by the looks of it.
It's all good man.. im here again listening to it, for what it's worth. :D
getting to the end of the set is the worst... but its also the best!! because you can do it all over again!!
Hate the sinner never hate the sin!
Bravissimi!!!!
I love this band you all should check out the band he was with before dear hunter the receiving and of sirens he was good with them too
Anyone think there's ever going to be an act 6?
Yes, but Act VI will be the last album in the story. I imagine he will be releasing more albums, but they just won't be part of the Acts.
This is brilliant!
I listened to Act II again and I'd put it before Act I now. There's some really amazing moments in there.
Act III is my favorite😬
damn this is fire #100
strawberry girl fire is actually #12
17:52 is my favourite part (who am i)
Who am I? Who am I? Just a gambler. Holding aces in the devil's eyes. What is wrong? What's the sin? Where's the answer? Where the hell do I fit in? Or could it be there's just a little demon lost in the debris. And I should idly bide my time until the wager releases me. It can't remain unknown.
Can dear hunter just tour with circa survive already? It would be the greatest.
comeatme scrublordimripped Throw Coheed in there and baby you got a stew going!
TPR626 yesssssssss! super-tour
comeatme scrublordimripped I know they've gone on tour with Coheed and Circa separately a tour with all three would be sick
They already have. I was fortunate enough to be there. 👍🏼
comeatme scrublordimripped
Obviously you’re a Game Grumps fan as well! I was lucky enough to see TDH and C&C late last year
Honestly at first i didn't like this album all that much. But now. It's really starting to grow on me. I do want them. To release a non story album next instead of act 6 to raise hype for the conclusion of our story
Plus i really enjoyed migrant a lot. And i would like to see what they can do
I didn't really -listen- to it hardcore until after I read a synopsis of the story online. I think this album is actually both the climax and resolution of the story.
Boy howdy are you in for a treat when you hear The Color Spectrum
The color spectrum was pretty good although a few eps like blue indigo and white weren't appealing to me. I still prefer migrant thoe especially the bonus songs
act 6 isn't going to be a record, as casey said in a letter when he announced act 5, and in a number of interviews
I just wanna know the female back voice in the first song. It sort of sounds his mom from act1?
I'm not sure if it's the same woman that does the vocals in Act I. But I believe I read that the voices of The Moon/Awake were done by both Casey's mother and wife. Which is such a nice touch because I've always felt this was Hunter basically admitting to the Fiance/Wife character that he can't really give her the love she wishes to have from him, on top of reminiscing about a lot of things, including his days in The Lake with his mother.
LOVE!!!!!!
It's a little tough to hear in the verses through the creative work on the snare drum.
nheard0 Yeah I realized it's definitely in 6/8 and not 3/4 but I believe there a few measures of 5/8 before the chorus.
LUCAS CURTIS it's still 6/8 before the chorus, the drums just do a weird skip to 4/4 feel momentarily
YOU FUCKING ROCK!!!
But how can I get my hands on acts I , II and III on CDs
I think the first 6 tracks are perfect could be 1 song aswell
So good
Who is singing at the beginning of "The Haves Have Naught"?
Gavin Castleton!
Thank you!
I knew it was Gavin, but I've always wished it was Alex, so that it was a duet between brothers.
Rory Giambalvo Casey's brother is Nick Crescenzo the drummer, not Alex
Benjamin Parsons ....I knew that...why did I say Alex....my bad.
amazing
This is really reminiscent of Dream Theater, and I have to say it is AMAZING!
Axaruz it sounds nothing like DT.
is there a version of this without the gaps in between songs
thankyoouuuuu
urwelcomeeeeeee
Que buen video jaja saludos a todos
una obra maestra, hace un año, ahora y por siempre...
DID THE HEAVENS EVER SPIT OUT THE CRAP WHEN THE WINTER FOLDS?! (I don't know the exact lyrics)
The Needless Gamer Why not take a moment to find the correct lyric instead of the footnote?
What do we call this genre?
progressive rock, art rock, indie rock.
Pat Sweeney thx pat

+Trico the pimp and the priest is the antagonist of the whole story..,
anyone have a download link? i don´t have money so i can´t buy any album
Martha Alv. Download the BitLord client, a VPN, and search for “(album name) torrent” in google. You’re welcome.
All the ads kinda ruin the experience
My friend just introduced me to this. Could someone list song names and times please?
Added it into the description. Enjoy! I hope the times are right. It took a little bit to set up.
DearHunterFan15 thank you!
I appreciate that you did this, but midrolls between each song? Kinda breaks the immersion man.
BrokaCola That would be the fault of Copyright holders not mine. Sorry.
@@DearHunterFan15 Ah I see, sorry bout that.
Did a female join The Dear Hunter?
If so, i approve.
It's his fiance helping with the vocals I believe
Does this record give anyone else Silverchair "Diorama/Young Modern" Vibes at all???
Tuna In The Brine! yes, but i hear it more in Act IV. Casey is fan of that album (Diorama), he even work with the same orchestra
I want the tree as a tattoo
This band kind of reminds me of Ghost, except a little bit more talented
Need this in more "Progressive Death Metal" :o
Persefone might be for you, check out Spiritual Migration, solid LP.
Bruh, upload a solo version of each song! Risk it
So we can all suffer insidious loading times during what should be fluid transitions?
Brenden Patch Well, looking it like that...
Brenden Patch But still, i dont like every time i want to hear a certain song: come here, check the time stamp and try to get it right... IN MOBILE ONLY. And in my country, the videos in the topic are blocked, sooo....
That's pretty lame. Lucky for me, I don't listen to songs.
I liked Act 2 and 3 the most. Can't seem to like the rest.
They're all slightly different styles, so I can understand that. It took me a while to like Act IV after Act III.
it's funny because i was critical of the band at first...i found it to be pretentious..and i had to listen to acts 2 and 3 a few times to really get the feel of it... same for 4 and 5 really. now personally, i still love 2 the best..and this one, act 5, is fine....but i get with the styling that it is tough to like it ALL, even if you love the band.
Act V is probably my favorite, but I'm sure that's because I just got into this band back in September, so Act V is the first album I listened to.
Manny Been a fsn since 06. Act V is their best hands down. Next to Color spectrum, I like then act 1 alot. 2 3 and 4 are all on thr same level for me of good.
42:23
can't dig it
It's not for everyone :-)
And I should add how grateful I am that the albums have been uploaded 😀
