Okay but literally in the museum you can see a line in the floor that describes the evolution of living beings and you can clearly see that the villagers are just animals that have evolved into a more intelligent beings alongside humans.
Besides, you can constantly see more humans all across the game, in your island, in other islands... Humans are just another species that live in the Animal Crossing world

In New Leaf, it's possible for grumpy characters to ask you what animal they'd be if they were an animal. Thing is, if you answer them with what animal they are, they're quick to point out that they already are that. So. There ya go.

@@Callo_2823 Could be another part of the delusion, or they could have an infestation that they don't have the means to properly combat, as the ranges for flea birthrates number anywhere from 100 to multiple 1000s depending on the breed over the course of a single flea mother's life. And yes, that's just 1, now imagine having 10+.

I think an even better example of the character haveing some kind of out of body experience is the dream islands. You can literally travel around other people's islands without actually being there
They do comment on your look! And its funny how in Wild World on the DS Lite there was an axolotl as a shrink that would come to town every now and then and teach you to express emotions. Even in Horizons the Islanders teach you how to express certain emotions. I’ve always had a suspicion that our character is living with a certain mental illness.

A few things, in the older animal crossing games you can’t just customize your character in a mirror, what about if you play multiplayer, obviously that other player character will be another human, some villagers have dialogue if you wear the animal costume associated with them where they comment that you’re dressed like them for example if you talk to kiki while wearing a cat costume

He'd also have me read his smutty fanfiction in the library whenever class got out early. A year after I dropped out, my calendar alarm went off and it said "sonso's birthday." The demon wolf boy had somehow put his birthday in my phone without me knowing.

Well, there is literally a family tree in the museum that explains that the villagers are more "evolved" forms of our normal animals, or that at least they split somewhere in the tree from the "normal animals". There is even the fossil of a primate before the spot where your villager can pose. Basically they see less-evolved animals the same as we humans see monkeys.

This was an awsome theory and loved to hear it! Games are a great means of escape and are going to be the aid to help teach children. Like for me growing up learning came from movies or books. Now as games start to be more prominent I wouldn't be surprised that in the future games have hidden lessons not just for theory channels like MatPat's but for future generations to learn about the world.

Thank you!! As soon as he mentioned the owl I thought he was going to talk about the evolution in the game that's clearly seen in the Museum. Off the wall theories are fun but this theory is easily dismissed.

I always figured it was just a case of branched evolution - one branch in each of the species that exist as a sapient species diverged from the main lines ages ago, and evolved similarly to humans from that point on. The realistic animals still exist because they took a different path, one that paralleled our animals' evolutionary paths precisely.
The final room of the fossil museum tells as much in a beautifully subtle manner. All of the lines on the floor that represent the paths life took end in a line up of silhouettes of the villagers, with an empty spot for the player, showing that they evolved along side them.

I am late to this video, but recently i started playing a game called 'Night In The Woods' and i feel the theory applies to that game too. Our character, Mae is a 20 yr old young adult and she is a cat. Throughout the game we see, other cats. Some are like our character which walks on 2 legs but some others are like....normal cats. They walk on all 4s and behave like a cat. We also see racoons, some of which are like our character, smart and walk only on 2 feet, but some others we see are like normal racoons. In the game there is a part in which we watch television but the characters on screen are talking gibberish with only the names being somewhat understandable. This happens throughout the game. Another point, about the stress. The ENTIRE plot of the game is based on the stresses of being an adult, and our character has recently dropped out of college and is now facing issues regarding family, friends, jobs and housing. I feel that this all could have been the cause of clinical lycanthropy, just like in Animal Crossing. And that's my theory. Well I'm sure you will not be able to see this lol.
They also comment on out of season face paint after a few talks, "you making a new statement" only occurs when you wear the paint...
