  • e-Pedal is Nissan's name for their one-pedal driving system. But it's not on every EV so most people have never experienced it. It's fantastic for stop-start traffic and when you're driving around town. Martyn dives into the details of one-pedal driving and tells us how it works.

Good thing about e-pedal is that the brake LIGHT activates. That's not always the case with "B-mode" or lower regen levels. For the car behind you, this is important to know: you may slow down quite a bit with no warning in B modes, or Regen level 1 or 2.

This is a great series for noobs to EVs Martyn, you're doing a great job with this channel.
Disappointed I didn't bump into you last weekend at Fully Charged Outside, I would have liked to hang out and talk about the podcast and this channel, even offer to help you in some way if I can! I'll catch you next time, hopefully.

Bravo 👏🏻 on your recap. I didn’t know some manufacturers use the friction brake with one pedal. I’d like to compare say a KIA combustion vehicle adaptive cruise that will come to a complete stop and go again as the lead car pulls away with the same exact software programming feature in their EV6. Would the EV6 ever (have to) or always does use the friction brake. It seems everyone should take a moment to learn how it works in their own EV and any new one they hop in to. Nice job explaining the vast possibilities for different manufacturers. 👍🏼

Thanks Gary, it's a actually quite complex once you get into the details. We could have made an hour-long video! One of our team was driving the Peugeot e208 recently, That used a blend of Regen and friction to bring the car to a stop when in adaptive cruise control, and would then move on again.

Nice video. That managed to cover a lot. Incidentally, my ID3 has a version of Nissan's earlier D/B system. So effectively it never achieves the E-pedal mode [ie, no one pedal driving]. I know Martyn was using an ID3 recently and would be interested to have his views on VW's implementation of that system.

Hi...I have a leaf...were di I see the increase in miles or % after using epedal foe at lease 12 miles of driving?

you might not see a noticeable increase in driving range with e-pedal or B mode. It's just a different style of driving. Normal or D mode driving can be just as efficient, but you just use your brake pedal more to slow down. This adds a bit more wear to the brake pads, but can also be good for giving the brakes some "exercise"!
