One of the best and informative tutorials on RUclips, honestly back in high school I had to sit through almost half a year of my teacher explaining all these tools (for photoshop) but you covered it all in half an hour! Good work and keep it up!
To me, this is probably the best and most thorough analysis of this program. It is well organized and easy to comprehend. This is truly a god send thank you soooo much.
Watching this just conirms to me that Clip Studio is basically in it's features a very cool combo between SAI and Photoshop. Because a lot of the features praised here aren't new if you've mostly used SAI instead of Photoshop. But SAI just lacks a lot of editing/non-drawing specific tools which is why I'm trying to switch to Clip Studio over time and with some practice and getting used to. Thanks for making these videos about the basics!
THIS TUTORIAL IS EPIC! Everything is so clear! Thanks so much for this I'm new to digital art and I just bought Clip Studio . I find it quite complicated and very daunting to learn. But this is so helpful! Definitely subscribing :D
this tutorial was amazing and so helpful. i am brand new at clip studio. i bought it 2 days ago, messed with it yesterday, and found i was looking for ways to speed up my workflow. im sure ill be coming back to this video for some finer details but i feel 10x more confident after watching this once! thank you so much
Screw all these people who expect a university degree in CSP from a 35 minute video. Great job Reuben, lots of valuable tips for zero cost, it helped me 👍
This is the most comprehensive help video on clip studio I have found. I learned more from this video than i can fit into my memory. i will definitely be bookmarking this and watching it every time I need to remember just a few of the features you demonstrated. Even leaving room for viewers like me to combine features. This was extremely well made, thank you.
I was lost and nearly gave it up for Affinity after 5 days learning how to for beginners from clip studio by a Japanese instructor. I''ve learned more with you in an hour. You've saved the day. Thanks!
This was SOOOOO helpful. After 17+ years using photoshop only for illustration and painting I'm making the switch and this video sealed the deal for me. Thanks!
Man, thanks for taking the time to put this together. I recently started to make the transition from painting primarily in Photoshop to Clip Studio and your tutorial is one of the best introductions to a new piece of software I've ever come across. You're saving people from countless hours of confusing trial and error. Thanks again! Love your work as well!
Thank you so much! Glad it was helpful. Feel free to let me know if there are any other Photoshop/Clip Studio crossover topics that you come across that can still use some attention.
I just started drawing digitally after 4 years of drawing on paper and I swear this is the most complex software I've seen. I kinda miss the smells of marker and sounds of pencil scrapes but damn I wanna get good at this! Thanks for the guide!
I was a little jealous as I was watching your guide while drawing my own picture, you outlined the whole picture meanwhile I could barely get the pen to act right lol.
Thank you so much for making time for these tutorials. I recently purchased CSP for personal projects but as any new beginner, feels uneasy on using it without knowing its full potential. As someone who knows how to use Photoshop prior, your videos are by far the best ones on teaching beginners. Thank you!
I find your video to be very informative and easy to understand. To let you know, I'm also a Clip Studio Paint user too, and I find it to be way better than GIMP and Seashore, since both of them lack certain features. Anyways, I subscribed to your channel and I'll be looking forward to seeing more of your helpful videos!
Thank you so much for this video! I'm new to CSP and have only been working digitally for a couple of years. Been a traditional artist for years though. I was finding CSP's similarity to Photoshop to be aa huge barrier to get over. Too many options at times, and none of them intuitive. You're video has been incredibly helpful.
I never new how to properly use CSP and my artwork shows that. So now I'm going and doing research on how to properly use it. This video is already giving me ideas on things I need to correct. ♥
Hiya! I'm just starting with a new Wacom Tablet with Clip Studio Paint Pro. I found your video easy to understand even with youngsters like me, and was found very helpful in the ways to do digital art on the tablet. I subscribed and look forward to other videos!
Just purchased your package with this video. I've been playing around with CSP for a couple days and your instruction really helps. I did fail at getting my custom brush to paint in different colors so I stopped there and will try again as apparently I missed something!
At first, Manga studio got me confused ansd it made me think i wasted mu money, but i found this and explained everything i needed to know. You got yourself a like.
I’ve been using photoshop and illustrator for years, and only decided to get clip studio today, I came across your video and found it so helpful 💕 thank you for the awesome and informative upload 😊
just bought the program, was having massive issues with photoshop not doing what i wanted it to do, this looks like something that suits my needs way more! your intro is very easy to understand and easy to follow, i did have to google a bit to find out more about the windows short cuts but thats not a big deal. awesome!
Great! I feel the same way... battling Photoshop's tools, which are unparalleled for photo editing, but not built for painting. I'll remember about the including windows shortcuts for my next series... thanks!
I've been using Clip Studio for about a year now and I didn't know about half of these features. Thank you so much, I look forward to trying them out!!
Thank you! And yes, this is one of the primary reasons I think CSP is worth looking into.... it is a familiar workflow. Keeps things easy to manage when switching between apps.
Very well-structured tutorial, and its helped me a lot trying out CSP for the first time tonight. I'm someone who's very familiar with photoshop, and you did a great job answering some of the immediate questions I had, as well as ones I was likely going to run into within the next day or so. EDIT: I just watched you transform multiple layers at once, and I nearly screamed out loud with joy. All my wildest dreams!
Ha! That's hilarious. Yes, it's a wonderful thing. There are still a couple of Photoshop methods I'd like for Celsys to implement still: the polygonal lasso tool behavior should allow for the temporary conversion to the freeform lasso tool when a modifier key is pressed, and the shift key should constrain lines to horizontal/vertical axis (not sure why they didn't implement that). but it really is an amazing piece of illustration software at an affordable price point. Glad the tutorial was helpful. Thanks!
I bought it yesterday and liked it right out of the download. What attracted me was the vector side. Didn’t want to start bad habit I decided to get educated. All in after minute 33:00! Are you kidding me?
Because of this tutorial, i feel like getting this!! The lines look so sharp and defined, and the color looks good too, something I want out of software like this. Thanks x3
SUPER HELPFUL. i recently got this software for my ugee1920b and was completely overwhelmed. i still drew anyways but i knew if was really inefficient and not using the tools to as well as they are capable. Thank You!!!!!
This video is amazing! I've been drawing with CSP for a little while now and I always thought I was super slow but you helped me greatly by showing me all the neat options and shortcuts. I really hope you'll do more tutorials on Clip Studio Paint because this totally saved my life! I love it! THANKS!
Wow, this helped me a lot! I recently installed Clip Studio Paint and all of the features/customizable options seemed overwhelming to me, but you made it very easy to understand. Thank you so much! I just created my first brush thanks to your tutorial -- I would never have figured out that I had the option to do so. Thanks again, and keep up the great work! :)
Reuben, thank you so much for the tutorial clip. This is by far the best Clip Studio (any other digital painting) tutorial video on youtube I have watched. I have been searching to get just the basic help and there were not many really. Even Clip Studio clips were not helpful at all. Clip Studio should pay you for doing their job!! Thanks again....
I found this very helpful thank you very much! There's so much in Clip Studio that a newbie like myself can find it overwhelming. All the points in this video help drill down to the items we want to change so we can get easily started with drawing rather than trying to learn everything first. Thank you again.
It is such a great program. Thanks for the tutorial. I got the EX version off of amazon for only $99 and loved it ever since. Your a great artist man. Keep up the great work. :3
Wow!!!!! I used wo to work with Easy Paint Tool Sai, but the other day saw that CSP had a 60% discount so I decided to give it a try. It does feel more comfortable to work with and your video just made me love it even more, I didn´t know you could do such things with CSP. It´s similar to PS but wow.... I´m amazed.
Just downloaded this last night (now I have Sai AND this lol) so I'm watching and re-watching tutorial videos on how to use it effectively and easily. Even learning how to do small simple animations XD
thank you for this detailed tutorial! i got really overwhelmed when I first opened clip studio paint, but your tutorials really helped me to understand the basics of the application!
Ha!! That's hilarious. I obviously have a hard time working and talking... I use this brush all the time to block in silhouettes and sketch out large broad shapes. Helps me get some randomness I wouldn't have otherwise included. Great awkward edit callout.
Thank you for the tutorial! I am a SAI user, and I thought Clip Studio Paint would be a fun program to use too, but it looked so complicated before I saw the video. God, everything is so clear now!
This was so detailed and helpful, and I appreciate that you took time to show us exactly what you where pressing and clear explanations of what everything does! I would've felt way out of my depth figuring out how to make custom brushes, but now I want to play around with it :)
Thank you so much! I've been trying to figure out this program on my own and...it's been taking a while. I'm used to working in Photoshop. So it takes forever to finish a piece. With your tips I'm my workflow will be much faster :)
This comment if for my own personal use. I am time stamping important moments so I can come back later. 11:05 Mapping Brushes and tools, Opacity is a little before 14:10 mapping flip horizontal to F 17:30 straight lines 18:38 talking about making features visible on all brushes if need be 18:47 adjusting brush textures 20:00 chalk brush changes 22:00 making brushes 28:00 importing multiple brushes/things I'm stopping for now becasue my CSP is unable to take in new material. I've been trying to import things for days and it just doesn't even respond. I've never been able to import anything and I've tried hundreds of tutorials.
Thanks for the index! Sorry to hear you're having trouble importing brushes? I haven't had a problem with either Windows or Mac versions. Maybe try deleting the program and reinstalling?
Yeah, I'm going to try again today with an unzip program to see if that helps. Quick question for you since you seem experienced. How possible is it for me to replicate Kuvshinov-Ilya, RossDraws and RandoWis's styles in CSP? Those are the artists that inspired me to start drawing.
Definitely susbscribe to their Patreon feeds and sign up for their process videos. The methods are exactly the same in Clip Studio, but you'll benefit from a better brush engine, a more customizeable interface and a more lightweight program than Photoshop is.
Thanks, I appreciate the words. It's going to cost a lot of money however to sub to all of their patreons since a lot of 2 of the 3 are $5 a week or $5 per art piece. They are great at monetizing their art and I give them a lot of respect for that. But I'm not made of money haha. As a side note, I have almost 8 years of photoshop experience but I can't afford the monthly fee of the new CC so I had to switch to CSP since it's just one payment. Pretty bummed but maybe when I learn the program more I'll grow to like it. Haven't found a way to "color dodge" yet. I've asked around and it seems that color editing like that is pretty photoshop exclusive
Understood. But remember that you have to invest something if you are serious about learning this craft! The prices they are asking for are very reasonable and much much cheaper than traditional art schools! Decide how much you can afford to invest, and then subscribe for that amount of weeks. You wont regret it! On the Color Dodge issue, CSP does have it. See this screenshot: www.dropbox.com/s/eq5eeczkenxx2ff/Color%20dodge%20Clip%20Studio.png?dl=0 It also has a blending mode that Photoshop does not have and that I think does an even more amazing job: Add(Glow). It's awesome for adding light effects. I think Ross Tran would love it if he knew about it... ha! Photoshop still remains the must-have photo editor for serious photographers due to it's advanced color correction and RAW format tools, but CSP has all the needed functionality and power for illustration, for a fraction of the cost. I use both regularly and can appreciate both of their strengths. But if you can only afford one, CSP can get you to all the places Photoshop can in the illustration field. Keep working hard at it!
Thanks so much for this video! I'm just getting back into drawing again from years of other things that life throws at a person and wanted to use an outlet of stress relief I hadn't used in a long time. I'm new to advanced digital art and drawing like this program and your tips really helped me get over some hurdles. Thank you again!
So glad you've found something to dive into! You are right, life has too much stress and we need activities that help us unwind. I'm a firm believer that we were created to create... best wishes on your art journey!
Thanks for an awesome video! Been working in CSP for some time, pretty long actually, but have never bothered about details. But thanks to you and this awesome video I'll make my CSP much more personal. Keep it up!
I just got a Huion H610 Pro, and I clicked onto your video with it! xD Can't wait to get started! Nice tutorial, very instructive. Earned yourself a like!
I've been using Photoshop for well over a decade. I've been very interested in moving some of my practice over to Clip Studio but just haven't had the time to slog through what, where and how the related tools and operations might be and how they function. This tutorial is fantastic. Very clear, easy to follow, and you really hit the fundamentals of what I needed to understand to start transitioning what I do (and how I do it) from Ps to Clips Studio. Plus, you've also given me a helpful leg up on how to make my own modifications and customizations, both with shortcuts and brush creation. Thank you so much!
That was great but halfway through you illustrate making a straight line with apparently your paintbrush setting? How the heck do you draw a straight line without first choosing the figure sub tool? Btw this is a good video and thank you.
Thanks man, just go my first wacom tablet and looked around and this by far the easiest of all softwares. I got a lot to learn but thanks for the easy setup.
Just wondering... If I buy CSP and install it on 1 computer, can I transfer the license onto another if I don't use that computer anymore? Or would I need to buy a new one?
I believe you are allowed to use the key two times. screen cap your key and number. contact clipstudio if you loose it or need to transfer. remember the email you registered/bought clipstudio with and wait 2-3 days for contact support.
I tried the multiple layer editing. It's a great feature! Thanks for this video. Just a small heads up: transforming multiple layers doesn't work if text-layers are included. You'll end up transforming everything but the text. To solve this problem: make sure you have the right text ;) and then rasterize the text-layers through the layer-menu. Transformation imminent!
Are you using a desktop or laptop for this? If so, are you using a stylus, mouse or keyboard? I have a MacBook laptop. Also, can doing digital art make traditional 2D painting any better? Has anyone's painting (real not digital) improved after using this?
I've had CSP for a few months now and I haven't been able to find an answer to this one issue. In the video the lines are shown to have varying thickness throughout (Thicker in the middle and thinner at the ends) and create a smoother image. The pens on mine create the same thickness throughout the line. I'm not sure what the name of this feature is or how to fix it. Does anyone here have any ideas about this?
Go to the Tool Property on one of your pens/brushes and click on the arrow button to the right of Brush Size. (this is the Effects settings) Under 'Input affecting to Brush Size', is Pen Pressure checked? If it isnt, check it and test the brush again. ^^ If Pen Pressure IS checked and the thickness still wont change, then it has something to do with your tablet's own pen pressure.
Hiyo! I recently tried this out too. What I found out was that I had to go in preferences and change the tablet setting to PC Tablet. Try that out and see if it helps.
This was very helpful. I just purchased the full version about an hour ago and after getting so used to Paint Tool Sai it was so foreign to me.. Thank you!
hi im super new to CSP. but my only question is how did you get so fast to select a shape of anysort and then freely resize/rotate them. for me however. i have to select. then click on the "scale up scale down & rotate" button to quick re size any of the parts im messing with. it may be a few buttons short but the time clicking to it really slows me down.
I think you may be referring to hot keys. Hot key, shortcuts and tools that affect how you interact are set in FILE. You can set your tablet with a few side buttons to act as a specific key press, and then have the software interpret a click a certain way. An example is zoom level or rotation. You can have "WASD" set to move the canvas, Q and E to rotate, Z and C to flip vertically and horizontally, and then X to return it to the default perspective.
great video! i'm having trouble setting up the shortcuts for the tablet's pen! i can't find where to modify it. i have clip studio paint pro and windows, does anybody know how to do it?
Thanks! Glad it was helpful. See 7:34 Changing Brush Size (in windows you'll have to find your Wacom System Preferences settings, but then the options should be the same.)

Great vid! As a complete newbie it's really handy having guides like this, especially with the keyboard shortcuts for the brushes.

Absolutely magical.

Very good video. Thumbs up! As a user of Photoshop since version 1.0 and 19 years later everything in Clip Studio is very familiar...

Fantastic intro to Clip Studio. Thank you! I just purchased the full tutorial on Gumroad. Keep up the great work! Cheers
Thanks so much for your support!

24:54 "Looks great! Now we can use this to..." *pauses to think of any scenario in which this brush would be useful*
Ha!! That's hilarious. I obviously have a hard time working and talking... I use this brush all the time to block in silhouettes and sketch out large broad shapes. Helps me get some randomness I wouldn't have otherwise included. Great awkward edit callout.
***** I figured it was just because it's hard to work and talk, yeah. Good video though, it helped a lot
I thought I knew all there was to know about this amazing software, but this tutorial reveals some new work arounds-many thanks Reuben!
Thanks for the good word! Glad it was helpful
once i actually have it installed I'm coming back
Thank you for the tutorial!
I am a SAI user, and I thought Clip Studio Paint would be a fun program to use too, but it looked so complicated before I saw the video. God, everything is so clear now!
Glad it was helpful!
looks away for 2 seconds, HOLY shit is that a freaking dinosaur????
Haha, never look away.
literally only 6 minutes in and i was sold. about to start creating again. thanks b ✊️
glad it got you kickstarted!
Thank you. I learned a lot!
Glad it was helpful!
This was so detailed and helpful, and I appreciate that you took time to show us exactly what you where pressing and clear explanations of what everything does! I would've felt way out of my depth figuring out how to make custom brushes, but now I want to play around with it :)
Can't tell you how valuable this all was. Your efforts are appreciated. Liked and subbed
Thanks for the good word!
Who also got a wacom tablet for christmas?

I got an ipad

the bit at the end that let's you transform the drawing without going through all of the layers is amazing. I may never go back to PS after this.
I know it has saved me so many times...
I just got a small Wacom graphic tablet today, and I have no idea how to work this program lol.
strap in for a ton of fun :-)
good luck
Holy shit my eyes just fell out of my head when I saw the multiple layer transform that is INSANE!!!
*starts drawing a dinosaur from scratch*

Thank you so much! I've been trying to figure out this program on my own and...it's been taking a while. I'm used to working in Photoshop. So it takes forever to finish a piece. With your tips I'm my workflow will be much faster :)
Good to hear! Yeah once you get a few basic down I find that I'm painting much faster in CSP than in PS. Keep on keepin' on...
clip studio basics: *draws entire fucking dinosaur dragon*
well yeah it's a drawing software
@kinzDarell missed the point.
This is an awesome video that will need revisiting several times.
This comment if for my own personal use. I am time stamping important moments so I can come back later.
11:05 Mapping Brushes and tools, Opacity is a little before
14:10 mapping flip horizontal to F
17:30 straight lines
18:38 talking about making features visible on all brushes if need be
18:47 adjusting brush textures
20:00 chalk brush changes
22:00 making brushes
28:00 importing multiple brushes/things
I'm stopping for now becasue my CSP is unable to take in new material.
See this screenshot: www.dropbox.com/s/eq5eeczkenxx2ff/Color%20dodge%20Clip%20Studio.png?dl=0
It also has a blending mode that Photoshop does not have and that I think does an even more amazing job: Add(Glow).
I'm a firm believer that we were created to create... best wishes on your art journey!
you are awesome! thanks
Thanks! Glad it was useful.
Thanks for an awesome video! Been working in CSP for some time, pretty long actually, but have never bothered about details. But thanks to you and this awesome video I'll make my CSP much more personal. Keep it up!
Thanks! Glad it was helpful.
Very helpful !
Thanks! Glad it was helpful!
I just got a Huion H610 Pro, and I clicked onto your video with it! xD Can't wait to get started! Nice tutorial, very instructive. Earned yourself a like!
Thanks! Make sure to subscribe, I have more tutorials coming soon!
15:05 - That's tip explode my head!
It's a great tip! Make sure to check out my updated "Clip Studio Basics 2" tutorial here: ruclips.net/video/WkLrMGpWayw/видео.html
Enjoy your first wacom bro... dive in and get to work!
Just wondering... If I buy CSP and install it on 1 computer, can I transfer the license onto another if I don't use that computer anymore? Or would I need to buy a new one?
Arcaelia I'm wondering the same thing. I already bought the program.
I believe you are allowed to use the key two times. screen cap your key and number. contact clipstudio if you loose it or need to transfer. remember the email you registered/bought clipstudio with and wait 2-3 days for contact support.
ack ur profile picture
I tried the multiple layer editing. It's a great feature! Thanks for this video.
Just a small heads up: transforming multiple layers doesn't work if text-layers are included. You'll end up transforming everything but the text. To solve this problem: make sure you have the right text ;) and then rasterize the text-layers through the layer-menu.
Transformation imminent!
thanks for the tip! i don't do much typesetting in CSP, but good to know for when i do!
Are you using a desktop or laptop for this? If so, are you using a stylus, mouse or keyboard? I have a MacBook laptop. Also, can doing digital art make traditional 2D painting any better? Has anyone's painting (real not digital) improved after using this?
You are the person I've been looking for two years. Thank youuuuu!
haha! Glad to connect! Thanks for the feedback
If Pen Pressure IS checked and the thickness still wont change, then it has something to do with your tablet's own pen pressure.
Hiyo! I recently tried this out too. What I found out was that I had to go in preferences and change the tablet setting to PC Tablet. Try that out and see if it helps.
This was very helpful. I just purchased the full version about an hour ago and after getting so used to Paint Tool Sai it was so foreign to me.. Thank you!
Thanks! Glad it was helpful.
hi im super new to CSP. but my only question is how did you get so fast to select a shape of anysort and then freely resize/rotate them.
for me however. i have to select. then click on the "scale up scale down & rotate" button to quick re size any of the parts im messing with. it may be a few buttons short but the time clicking to it really slows me down.
Very good tutorial. Helped me a lot. Keep a good work.
thanks! glad it was helpful
oh. now I know why most the youtubers have a white interface instead of dark interface without using paint SAI instead .w.
Glad it was helpful!
i've been using csp for about a year and yet there are a few things i did not knew. thank you so much!
You're welcome, glad it was helpful!
great video! i'm having trouble setting up the shortcuts for the tablet's pen! i can't find where to modify it. i have clip studio paint pro and windows, does anybody know how to do it?
Thanks! Glad it was helpful. See 7:34 Changing Brush Size (in windows you'll have to find your Wacom System Preferences settings, but then the options should be the same.)
@@ReubenLara oh thank you!!
Settings marked on your timeline, fantastic. Thank you
Thank you! Glad it was helpful. Make sure to check out the updated Clip Studio Paint Basics 2 video!
I can't see my pens anymore :( can you make a video how to fix it?
Reo Strawberry I'm having the same problem!
Did you solve it? I have the same prob
I can see the lasso tool being very efficient when creating animations
how do i change the shortcut settings for my drawing tablet?
sorry, just got to that part lol
