The biggest drawback of this show is the expository dialogue. That random exposition bro who told Zuko and Iroh about Zhao was hilariously bad 😂. I think this episode needed a stronger flaw for Sokka. His need to win the approval of his father and doubting himself isn’t good enough. Watching Sokka overcome his hangups, show humility, and ask Suki for help was a much stronger watch than Suki already being so interested in Sokka. I agree. Plus some bad acting here and there, but they are young and new. I think they did a good job over all tho. I like most of the actors. The action and visuals are great too.
That’s my main problem plus the so-so acting from many people not just the kids. I don’t care about how different it is from the cartoon, it’s not supposed to be the same, but the dialogue and acting made it reallyyyyy tough to watch at some points imo. Also how everyone always looks so clean like they’re putting on fresh clean clothes every 10 minutes.
@@Lost.in.Missouri Nah. In the animated series, it was an effective use of a quick montage that showed word of mouth that spread from one villager from the island to a fisherman then to a merchant then back to one of Zuko’s men then to Zuko on his ship. Much more natural. Here it was some random dude coming out of nowhere to tell them everything they needed to know as soon as they needed to know it. Much clunkier.
The misogyny isn't primarily for the development of Sokka. In the cartoon it was for the women in the show to show that women CAN do things like be a warrior. Without it in the live action it's one less character development trait for Katara, Suki or Azula. That was a very important lesson for boys, and amazing representation for girls.
Especially watching Sokka swallow his pride and ask Suki for help in learning how to be a better fighter. He even wears the Kyoshi makeup and armor to show how committed he is to learning. It was a great lesson.
*Roku:* Remember when i took over Aang's body and scared the Fire Nation soldiers out of their minds? No? Never mind then. *Kyoshi:* lol kick rocks Roku I'm the mentor figure now *Korra:* lol, she's just catching bodies *Yangchen:* Kyoshi, you can't just do everything! You need to let Aang have some agency! *Kuruk:* Yangchen, I don't think she hears you now *Wan:* and Aang learns nothing from this, but it was a cool moment, so who cares, right?
34:40 considering Fire Nation Dogma and general culture AND Athe fact that Zuko grew up around Azula are we really surprised he had 0 chill fighting Katara 😅
I really don't like how Roku isn't the first Avatar Aang connects with. Like, that's kinda the whole point. Roku was the previous Avatar and thus he's Aang's spiritual mentor. Meanwhile, the Avatar needs to be better trained in order to connect with his other past lives. Likewise, in the context of the Last Airbender, Roku is a MUCH more important character to Kiyoshi. It kinda seems like that they're rushing to get the fan favorite character out of the way in the event there's no season 2.
I've never watched the original show, but this series made sense all the way through. Most people only complain about what's not in it, which is something that can only upset someone with prior knowledge of events. An example would be people who read a book complaining about missing details in a movie adaptation. That's why it's always best to start with the shortest form of media and go up. Usually movie < series < book.
Interesting to note, both shows have about 8 hours of runtime for season 1 and both cover the same major plot points in that time, technically the animation is shorter because of the number of times it plays the intro and end credits. It's not about the runtime, it's about the execution.
They completely removed Aang's first fire bender master, who happens to also be Zhao's old master,he also happens to be an important character from an important group that later plays an important role during the comet's return in the last episodes, not only that,Aang bending fire this early has rammifications to his character that are meaningful and carry a lot of weight all the way up to the last season,so for everyone who actually watched the source material this LA has a ton of flaws in characters or in this exmaple, the lack of them, theres a big difference between skipping some little details and completely ignoring plot relevant characters and events.
Aaaaah. That’s a nice interpretation of that line indeed. I sensed some indignation there as well, which fits because Zuko is training for three years for this fight and Aang doesn’t even give him the honor.
At first I was a little put off because his version of Zhao is a bit different... but after watching the entire season, I have to say I love the way he's done it.
I like this more, it was wholesome. He wasn't an asshole. He needed help with training and she was awkward around him but a badass. End with a kiss. Cute and nice.
Right before watching this episode, I watched a few episodes of Blue Eyes Samurai. When I heard Sokka tell Suki she needed to wear a bell, I started dying of laughter. Cuz I had just heard the same line from Mizu about Ringo 🤣
It was implied that they had spent about two days together, the whole 48 hours comment, Sokka and Suki just trained and fought together, they were in a life and death situation. All of that makes people bond together faster than usual. Besides in our everyday reality people hook up in less time in clubs. 😂
@ootv In the live action he didn't run away...he went to do some thinking. in the OG he ran away. So Kyoshi's speech doesn't make since in this version since he again...didn't run away.
if u guys didnt notice this was Kyoshi's advice to Aang during the lion turtle ride it was weird hearing it now than in book 4. You'll notice this more later in the next episodes.
I think how the show handles the waterbending scroll makes a lot of sense because the tribe would have scrolls and artifacts even if the benders have killed or captured. Katara not being allowed to know about them or learn from them to protect her from being found out also makes sense. It also makes the good bye even more powerful because instead of sleeping bags it’s her heritage and her bending. Also with her leaving the northern tribe because of the sexist traditions she’s giving Katara the tools to fight that she wouldn’t have in the north
People please he's sang not Jun tao lmao. Jackie even specifically says his name is sang from hong kong, and he himself says jun tao is everywhere on first appearance
I noticed how the messaging has shifted towards Might makes Right re: the avatar rather than engaging with the idea from the animation of: that kind of power is dangerous and must be treated with care, and careless destruction is the philosophy of the fire nation, not the avatar. The temptation for spectacle in live action is too tempting for them ig
I enjoy the speed running to a degree I think some things would be strange or even boring to spend a lot of time on. Because it isn’t a goofy cartoon it would feel weird to spend like 15 minutes on say Sokka writing haikus or have Aang have a fanbase or surf on those giant koi fish things and get attacked by that monster. Not that those things couldn’t work it would either need to be a quick hint to that scene or spend a significant amount of time on them for it to not be confusing to those who aren’t aware.
Definitely. Would be outright strange indeed and make watchers feel like why spend so much time on this and not on characters I don’t know enough about.
my dad watched this w/o having seen the OG. he loved it, firstly. but on the suki note, he just saw it as a typical movie/show “inevitable” semi-rushed romance. those are p common, tho more so in movies than tv lol. he liked suki and sokka a lot tho in general
I never cared much about suki, I liked her but never but much thought to her, however this actress is incredible , she has such stable acting in the ensemble that it pulled me in her scenes tbh and chemistry is definitely there
Its very hard to like the live action version, because of how much I loved the original when I watched it when it first came out even the directors didn't want to have part in the live action because they knew they would change parts of it and I was afraid of that as well. I get what you mean by liking certain parts but its not the same feeling as the original and I don't even know how its going to end because they put episodes together and also changed a lot of the characters developments. Zuko to me is my favorite character because of how much he acts like the animated series Zuko. At first Sakka bothered me a little and Aang wasn't as child like in the beginning maybe because it feels like we are skipping a lot. But I saw Sakka during this episode then the first. I just know this is more politically correct in some ways. And I am sure you will see it too. I am trying to look at it from a new lens but its hard because of how long we waited for this live action. And I heard if this doesn't do well they won't make a second season or third, which would suck, but this I don't know if this is what I wanted in a live action?
Been following you guys since game of thrones, love your reactions......but marketa 🙌 I see the pin, its our responsibility as human beings to always raise our voices for whats right....keep up the good work

Didn’t that actually happen in the show? Like Zuko found Aang once because word had got back to him from a random person at the port?
@@Lost.in.Missouri
Nah.
@@Lost.in.MissouriYea. I didn't mind the random dude. It's actually hilariously accurate to the animation.
Deaf fan here keep making closed caption I love this channel
The misogyny isn't primarily for the development of Sokka. In the cartoon it was for the women in the show to show that women CAN do things like be a warrior. Without it in the live action it's one less character development trait for Katara, Suki or Azula. That was a very important lesson for boys, and amazing representation for girls.
Especially watching Sokka swallow his pride and ask Suki for help in learning how to be a better fighter. He even wears the Kyoshi makeup and armor to show how committed he is to learning. It was a great lesson.
you could not be more wrong.
from ep 1, sokka said women cant fight.
It’s definitely still there though, it’s just more subtle which makes sense when you are aiming for an older audience.
@@QueenOfTheZombieApocalypseno it's just gone. The director himself said he removed the sexism of sokka. It's not subtle.
Having seen the whole season, it’s still there for Katara to overcome. It’s just not from sokka.
*Roku:* Remember when i took over Aang's body and scared the Fire Nation soldiers out of their minds? No? Never mind then.
*Kyoshi:* lol kick rocks Roku I'm the mentor figure now
*Korra:* lol, she's just catching bodies
*Yangchen:* Kyoshi, you can't just do everything! You need to let Aang have some agency!
*Kuruk:* Yangchen, I don't think she hears you now
*Wan:* and Aang learns nothing from this, but it was a cool moment, so who cares, right?
Possibly the best Normies sketch I've seen (and I've seen like 20) so high ISH praise
34:40 considering Fire Nation Dogma and general culture AND Athe fact that Zuko grew up around Azula are we really surprised he had 0 chill fighting Katara 😅
There's food in the village hall... and right here in front of me, too BOW CHICA WOW WOW!!!
Yea I didn’t like it either. But it fun to see but story wise Roku is way more important.
Suraj: Are you sure you’re not a water bender? Because…
Navi: No, stop it
😂😂😂
I've never watched the original show, but this series made sense all the way through. Most people only complain about what's not in it, which is something that can only upset someone with prior knowledge of events. An example would be people who read a book complaining about missing details in a movie adaptation. That's why it's always best to start with the shortest form of media and go up. Usually movie < series < book.
@@SwordTune Yes we get you have an opinion. Feel better?
Interesting to note, both shows have about 8 hours of runtime for season 1 and both cover the same major plot points in that time, technically the animation is shorter because of the number of times it plays the intro and end credits.
It's not about the runtime, it's about the execution.
@@aWhysGuyso if this show improbably gets a second and third season, there would be move live action content out their than the OG? That’s…disturbing.
I definitely agree with that last point
They completely removed Aang's first fire bender master, who happens to also be Zhao's old master,he also happens to be an important character from an important group that later plays an important role during the comet's return in the last episodes, not only that,Aang bending fire this early has rammifications to his character that are meaningful and carry a lot of weight all the way up to the last season,so for everyone who actually watched the source material this LA has a ton of flaws in characters or in this exmaple, the lack of them, theres a big difference between skipping some little details and completely ignoring plot relevant characters and events.
15:54 Suki did a Patrick Swayze with Sokka 😎
I love that Zuko is pissed off because Aang didn't even try to fight him, he just... left.
Aaaaah. That’s a nice interpretation of that line indeed. I sensed some indignation there as well, which fits because Zuko is training for three years for this fight and Aang doesn’t even give him the honor.
16:07 love that joke, Sokka really is a waterbender in this 😂🥵
I think Zhao is one of the best parts. Ken Leung (Miles from LOST) was having the meal of his life chewing up that scenery 😂
At first I was a little put off because his version of Zhao is a bit different... but after watching the entire season, I have to say I love the way he's done it.
Yeah I was surprised by how much I ended up liking his perfeomance. You can tell the dude is having fun. What a petty, sassy bitch 😂
RANA'S REACTION TO KYOSHI IN THE AVATAR STATE IS SO WHOLESOME!!!!!😁😁😁
Yeah! And her moms too, their whole lives and island being in support of her and then finally see her in ‘real life’.
Kyoshi casually bullying everyone 😂😂
Sokka out here being a Back Bender 🤪✌️
Nice
Nah he's still a waterbender. Only when he talks to women😏
I like this more, it was wholesome. He wasn't an asshole.
He needed help with training and she was awkward around him but a badass. End with a kiss. Cute and nice.
PIMENTO IS BACK!!!! glad to have you on, sir
Right before watching this episode, I watched a few episodes of Blue Eyes Samurai. When I heard Sokka tell Suki she needed to wear a bell, I started dying of laughter. Cuz I had just heard the same line from Mizu about Ringo 🤣
The way kyoshi said “a mighty , merciless WARRIOR!” Sounded so cold
Wow, Rana (new fan) is only 12 episodes in, and she's already singing Secret Tunnel, from season 2 episode 2. I guess she got spoiled by the memes xD
They all watched the original together???? Rana was there.
@@chaotic7cam I know. I'm talking about in the skit, where she (her character) says she's only 12 episodes in, but then she sings Secret Tunnel.
It was implied that they had spent about two days together, the whole 48 hours comment, Sokka and Suki just trained and fought together, they were in a life and death situation. All of that makes people bond together faster than usual. Besides in our everyday reality people hook up in less time in clubs. 😂
@10:19 he was Sang from Rush Hour goddammit!
17:33, to all who recognized Tamlyn Tomita, is this moment a lift from "Karate Kid 2"?😊
Why am I closest to the new fan type.. 😂 watched the anime for a decade. Secret Tunnel really hits.. 😆
Sokka and Suki absolutely hit it off.
Loved this episode (-_^ ) Kyoshi gets to kick ass on her island.
36:34 The war isn't Aang's fault...it was Roku's. He could have put an end to it before it started. Ole girl was hot out of pocket.
They missed a lot od key important details I feel
That’s true, but who knows there might not have been any war if Aang didn’t run away from his responsibilities as well.
But thats Kyoshi. She would absolutely blame him for running away.
@ootv In the live action he didn't run away...he went to do some thinking. in the OG he ran away. So Kyoshi's speech doesn't make since in this version since he again...didn't run away.
@@youngrootvaang wasn’t even a fully developed avatar if the fire nation attacked like they did he would’ve died as well.
I’ve been going around just watching reaction videos! Has any one noticed how she just bends water out of thin air 🥹
Woahhhhhhh I started watching you guys when you reacted to Avatar animation and today we are here it's been so long hahah
if u guys didnt notice this was Kyoshi's advice to Aang during the lion turtle ride it was weird hearing it now than in book 4.
Definitely. Better than the original if i dare say so. Also a nice emotional touch for gran gran.
People please he's sang not Jun tao lmao. Jackie even specifically says his name is sang from hong kong, and he himself says jun tao is everywhere on first appearance
Love the Korra artwork wall spotted in the skit. ❤❤❤
I love this skit and I love this episode it's so good
I noticed how the messaging has shifted towards Might makes Right re: the avatar rather than engaging with the idea from the animation of: that kind of power is dangerous and must be treated with care, and careless destruction is the philosophy of the fire nation, not the avatar. The temptation for spectacle in live action is too tempting for them ig
Loved getting so much Kyoshi!
I like that delivery on "he ran!"
Why?
Loved the skit 😂😂. I am definitely the first one though 😂
10:20 juntao🤣 he killed it in rush hour and in this
I enjoy the speed running to a degree I think some things would be strange or even boring to spend a lot of time on.
Nonsense, fleshing out the main character’s personality isn’t boring or waste of time. All you get is expository dialogue
Definitely. Would be outright strange indeed and make watchers feel like why spend so much time on this and not on characters I don’t know enough about.
Warriors come out and playyyy!!!
Damn I was not expecting the Warriors movie reference in the beginning haha! That was great😂.
Did nobody realise that was kumiko from karate kid and cobra Kai playing Suki mom
"the water's on fire! The water's on fire" 😂
my dad watched this w/o having seen the OG. he loved it, firstly. but on the suki note, he just saw it as a typical movie/show “inevitable” semi-rushed romance. those are p common, tho more so in movies than tv lol. he liked suki and sokka a lot tho in general
that opening skit was AMAZING. gonna have to fight the Korra Hater though.
Right behind you buddy!
Nah man, I wanted to love Korra, I really did, but the Legend of Korra is almost unwatchable

One of the things I really enjoyed in this episode was the in tandem-fighting between _Kyoshi_ and _Sokka_ aganst the fire nation warriors.
The kyoshi scene would be good in theaters
“Damn Suki Finee… Fuckk” same spidey same 🤣🤣🤣
I enjoyed the opening skit! This kind of is the mega fan base.
One does not simply approach Kyoshi Island and threaten its people with death and destruction, without incurring the wrath of Kyoshi herself.
OK guys I get you're late to the party so here's a non-spoiler heads up: bring tissues to episode 6 because trust me, it really hits in the feels.
sokka not wearing the kyoshi warrior outfit & makeup is such a missed opportunity 😭
I never cared much about suki, I liked her but never but much thought to her, however this actress is incredible , she has such stable acting in the ensemble that it pulled me in her scenes tbh and chemistry is definitely there
Chris' impersonation of a complete a-hole in the opening skit was a little too accurate 😂 some people are too angry to lampoon
Loving these reactions!
Lowkey I feel like if you close your eyes and listen to the voices it feels like you’re watching the animated show at times
there probably wont be much but i really wanna see people reacting to the cartoon for the first time after watching this
Its very hard to like the live action version, because of how much I loved the original when I watched it when it first came out even the directors didn't want to have part in the live action because they knew they would change parts of it and I was afraid of that as well.
I agree with you.
The Cabbage Merchant doesn't show up till Omashu in the cartoon
Suraj's character might be the most real human I've ever seen on film.
Been following you guys since game of thrones, love your reactions......but marketa 🙌 I see the pin, its our responsibility as human beings to always raise our voices for whats right....keep up the good work
Is there a Kyoshi book ? For just having one episode in the cartoon she sure is popular but holy shit here she was badass asf! I really love the visuals of this and the actors are doing pretty good
Yes there is a book and you have to read it
God, the intro had me in stitches. 😆
The intro skit is gold
actress of suki is absolutely gorgeous 😳
