My guess is because this cable has to be compatible with many headphones (900 PRO X, 700 PRO X, 770 PRO X, 1770 PRO, 1990 PRO). If you tune the DSP to perfectly fit one headphone, it might screw up the tuning for all the other headphones that this cable is compatible with. Yes it's the Harmon target. It basically wants to sound like you're in the studio with the live music. So it boost the bass to compensate for room gain, then it's flat neutral with a dash of upper mids and upper trebs.
Okay no. Measurements are compensated to DF not because that's the target but because DF is the correct sound field for use condition of headphones (being worn on the head). Yes and yes 😊 at least with other beyerdynamic XLR headphones, haven't tried other brands phones with this cord. Sounds good but the connection got a little wonky after a year or so. That said, I do like the way some other usbc dacs sound better than this one but the convenience is there

My God, calm down. The sound signature doesn't suit you and now Beyerdynamic should change it and make it sound like many other headphones? Have you ever listened to classical music with them? There's a reason why there are different manufacturers and sound signatures...so that everyone can find something that suits them. Beyer's headphones have been used in thousands of studios around the world for decades, but of course they're all amateurs and have no idea🙄 Btw: There are plenty of music lovers who just like this Beyer sound signature.
@october65-h6e you'd be surprised how erroneous your statement is. You don't need to have a professional portfolio to have a studio and most studio have the exact opposite. It's funny how you people admit most music is poorly recorded yet cant to make the link that most studio people have absolutely no idea. It's shows in their work.
I remember testing a few headphones in a music store over a decade ago... and the Beyerdynamic had that high treble, and that alone made my purchase decision (to not buy one, even the the store clerk suggested them) Maybe they're meant for people who can't tell when the higher frequencies are high due to age / hearing loss ?
Actually their overemphasized treble is per design since its meant for studio usage rather than music enjoyment. The problem is not the treble alone it's more the peaks what makes these pretty awful. But yea everyone out there really wants you to sell a Beyer no matter what. Worst thing is that nearly everyone here on YT praise the DT 990 Pro so much but the reality is this thing has such a massive treble peak you'll get deaf after a while lol - V shape at its best.
I'm gonna be honest, every time a company releases a dac amp cable product and they don't let you tune it with an app I question how much they actually care about / use the product. Like saying "USB C" on the packaging is their only end goal.
They just keep sticking to their "mount beyer" signature no matter what. My DT 880 also becomes "usable" when applying EQ but man, I wonder if they are all deaf since those peaks can be so piercing sharp it burns out your retina lol

Not certain, it could just be the output impedance of the amp or a design flaw. Either way it's more of a detriment to the headphones performance.
speaking of diffuse field, int the past Beyerdynamic DID have some true DF headphones without treble peaks with emotional sound signiture that todays beyer never have(DT911), but they vanished in history.
LIKE! Thanks for posting this video
Now test out Hart Audio's usb-c adaptor and cable with the dt900, or why not the new dt770 pro x limited edition?
I don't think the DAC chip has DSP...
This is actually rlly interesting
Personally, Shure 840-A is one of the better monitoring headphones.
Maybe this could work better with the Beyer DT 770 Pro X that already has too much bass...?
How does this compare to the other stuff thats out there even when they are eq-ed too ?
For example oratory's eq of this vs say somethin like the eq-ed 6xx or Sundara ?
Which would you take ?
Swimming, Damn, and ZUU. Gotta love it
Im still waiting for your Moondrop Aria 2 review
For a headphone channel you could consider to lower the level of your intro tune.
Comment section please help me. I’m looking for the best closed backs under $400. I’ve tried the Focal Elegia (not enough bass for me but otherwise good). The 700 Pro X’s (decent sound, but too much clamping force - I found them uncomfortable). Where do I go from here?
HD 620s are pretty good for that price range. I have them and really enjoy them. In fact, I probably prefer the pre-eq sound to my 560s and modded 8xx
I just want the microphone, whilst still keeping it as aux instead of usb c
Is that a 3 pin xlr, or the 4 pin from the 177X GO?
3 pin mini xlr
@@LyuboA Thanks, that's a shame.
Beyer dynamic taking Moondrop route, interesting
Why trip on their Beyerd treble which happens to be the best thing of all their headphones unlike all overated veiled Senns that keep me grasping for air. Graphs? My ears of my graphs.
Beyers are more vailed because of their upper mid recession which swallows the fundamental harmonics of string instruments. You are simply and provably wrong, sir.
@@enjoshi-godrez8775 lol provably wrong? On the contrary..what strings? That's the main reason why I don't do Senns for the lack lustre when it comes to air and transparency with strings. Might as well be Philips by another name.
@@user-ot6ti9mu3i guitars mainly. Almost all fundamental chords are in that pina rise. They are severely vailed. Only their trailing tones are present, for which they are unnaturally boosted making them sound both grainy and blunted because of the previous recession. Beyers are unbalanced headphones in their relationship between the upper mids and the treble.
@@user-ot6ti9mu3i your opinions on tuning ultimately come down to a lack of education on how our brains interpret transform fuctions in an amplitude graph.
Our evaluation worked out in such a way to develop compulsive disorders very quickly. Esoteric tunings exist because there is a very particular parts of such a presentation that the brain laches onto, then carries you away with it. No matter how awful something is, your brain will learn to cope with it. This is ture for such an unbalanced tuning as most beyers posses.
We all hear and perceive sound differently and for most majority of the ppl (including myself) their famous "beyer peak" is just too much. Yet I have to say that some of the Sennies out there are indeed "overhyped" for their performance.
Can you get this cable separately and use it with other xlr headphones?
Yes and yes 😊 at least with other beyerdynamic XLR headphones, haven't tried other brands phones with this cord. Sounds good but the connection got a little wonky after a year or so. That said, I do like the way some other usbc dacs sound better than this one but the convenience is there
Yes indeed as long as they have the same internal wiring.
bro , this one is made for akg k702
That cable is made for gamers, its quite popular for gaming.
"Beyerdynamic having a hot treble? I haven't noticed" - average audiophile that is over 55 yr old
i listened to my sons pair and decided to pass on them myself due to the harsh upper end. you're 100% right this was a huge miss on their part. it makes one wonder who is setting these tunings thinks they know better than the consumer about what sounds good. a lot of that going around. if their stockholders knew how much lost potential revenue exists by allowing this person to tune their product there would probably be some changes made. companies like this don't listen to the industry, they think they are the industry.
My God, calm down. The sound signature doesn't suit you and now Beyerdynamic should change it and make it sound like many other headphones?
Have you ever listened to classical music with them?
There's a reason why there are different manufacturers and sound signatures...so that everyone can find something that suits them.
Beyer's headphones have been used in thousands of studios around the world for decades, but of course they're all amateurs and have no idea🙄
Btw: There are plenty of music lovers who just like this Beyer sound signature.
@@october65-h6e you statment is objectively fallacious and we have the proof.
Excellent video. Always interesting!
The tinnitus joke was funny.
most usb-c dont work, those that do will not work for long...
Yeah because that sells more than including eq
ciao nati
Suddenly cables matter?
No, dacs and amps matter, which are built into this cable.
Especially when they have built in dsp
Can the Anglophones please stop mispronouncing "Beyer?" It rhymes with "higher," not "mayor."
Mount Beyer is so high you can skiing on it :D
Beyerdynamic just refuse to listen, I really wonder why, I have several models, and they all sound great after EQ.
They just keep sticking to their "mount beyer" signature no matter what. My DT 880 also becomes "usable" when applying EQ but man, I wonder if they are all deaf since those peaks can be so piercing sharp it burns out your retina lol
@@Officer94 Oh yes, it's always the others with bad ears and inability, but of course it's never your fault. Why did you choose the DT 880 in the first place if you can only use it with EQing? It seems to me that you chose the wrong headphones for yourself and now you want to blame Beyer for it.
But that's what happens when you listen with your retina...haha.
Elderly Germans applying practical low cost solutions? Heresy.
And Im sure Beyer folks are elderly given the treble.
Funny enough their HP should have a age rating system similar to games. Ages 55 and up xD
Great review as always, Beyerdynamic I feel like doesn’t understand the western market preferences imho. Just saying..!
No, it's actually the opposite. Germany loves esoteric tunings like this because audiophiles are proportionally far older and come from a time when such preferences weren't challenged. Make no mistake, Germany loves the HD820 and beyer headphones because young people aren't audiophiles like they are so prolifically in the states and especially in Asia.
The tuning really isn’t that much above the Harman target, maybe a 2-3dB at 6khz but the rest is very close, and most open headphones have bass like this. In your other reviews you praise headphones with massive dips and deviations from Harman like HD6xx which has WAY less bass, or ZMF/Audeze which have 10dB dips in the ear gain and treble. I know it’s cool to hate Beyerdnamic now for some reason, but this is just sad. DMS you really are the worst reviewer on here.
yeah he really on beyerdynamic's dxck
@Pennacle816 This is the most fallacious argument I've ever seen. "Massive dips" bring up the hd650. This headphone is 10 to 13 db above harman.
You are a pathological liar.
Measurements are one thing, personal opinions are another pair of shoes... Or cans? Yea I think cansSSs is the better word here.
900x over 300r and 880 600ohm?
Depends on the person honestly. I do find the 900x more comfy and a bit more balanced but the 300r has better bass and the 880 sounds more detailed.
just don't buy beyerdynamic. it's that shrimple.
yeah 900 pro x is a more all-rounder
DT 880 (no matter if 250 or 600Ohm) is just not worth it these days IMO.
Finally, the good beyer
Why... But... Why : MONEY, Greed, ...buy the next version, they promised is better 😂😂😂😂
You get a like just for that tinnitus joke. Now I'll watch the rest.
beyer is irrelevant and headed toward ultrasone territory - make you wonder if the 2 companies were made for money laundering cause no one who knows anything about headphones would buy one. i used to be one of those people and have around 6 of them, the shame is unbearable
Exactly, anyone who knows anything. But audiophiles are the minority here, casuals are the demographic. Beyerdynamic have made themselves a household name at the point.
@@neudels4896 Casuals are not the demographic, content creators and music producers are.
@@solidkeys yet, in reality, they are. No component professional would ever use a beyer, and there are A LOT of unprofessional content creators and producers. More than there are ones with actual portfolios.
@@enjoshi-godrez8775 then let me be an incompetent guy i guess. You enjoy your stuff, i enjoy my stuff. I have never had a problem with Beyers tuning, and have adequately compared the set i use to others in the price range. If Personal preference is ignorance for you, so be it
@@solidkeys your argument is flat out false. Don't try and crawl back from this using "just my opinion" diatribe. That's not what you said. You proclaimed because of the people who use it, that's why it sounds like that. The people you chose like produces is a mistruth.
audeze maxwell for music production Eq
You know what would be awesome for any cable with a built in dac/amp like this, the ability for users to upload their own eq profile via a text file.
