Real men cry to So Many Roads
Billy Strings is the best living singer/songwriter/player/performer in the world right now
RIP James Casey. Your light will continue to shine through the music.
i will forever live in envy of all the folks who got to attend this show
Forever grateful
I like to think Jerry found his road. Billy playing a beautiful tribute gives me hope.
Rest in peace James Casey
Good lord, what a performance. James Casey was all soul. RIP, I hope you're out there somewhere.
James and Billy hopped right into that band and basically took it over 😂❤
The music never stops!!!!
Rest in peace James💚
Rest in Peace James. This blessed tune just got lifted even higher.
Truly one of the great ones. He and Billy played two nights at Red Rocks, only knowing half the songs. They made that fact their inside joke and killed it all weekend. James was a special talent (RIP)
I was in a complete puddle after this! Stellar cover. Jerry is smiling.
True that
I also have WAP after watching this. Thanks, fellas
lol so grateful i dknt hat to explain things like this eva 💜💜💜
i don’t know if others actually experience
the full access to al that i know we vibe strong enough to make smiles and blushyness lol but this i like this best so far
@@CreatrixxxINK so far since what? Jerry? I’d have to disagree tommy alone with jrad has way more soul than this does this is still good but the best idk either way all love fam ❤️
Can we give the sax player a big hug? AWESOME 😍😍😍😍😍
Adds spice for sure..#jerryproud
He's excellent in the Trey Anastasio Band, sings backup, too.
Sooo good.
He was great as were all of them. Billy sang this so well.
James Casey!!!
First time I've seen this played live since Jerry's passing. Brought me to absolute tears sanding there at Red Rocks. An incredibly beautiful, soulful vocal. so well done. THANK YOU!!
What a wonderful thing that must have been. 🙏
I woulda done the same. I was alive and too young for jerry. I did see them as the other ones in 2001 and the dead in 2002 w bob dylan
And this is my favorite, billy does so much better than mayer and he aint even part of dead and slow lol
I can totally understand that…I wasn’t there at B.S and wish I was. Must’ve been so cool, Strings does have it. I’m going to NY Pier 17 in June so that should be cool. But yeah the last GD/JG SMR 95 brings me to tears 😭 every time. Billy Strings has it. My years were 81-95 w GD … these days I like going to PL&F more so than D&C … it’s that thing I can’t explain but if you were there you probably get it. I still go to D&C but it’s not the same. (Sorry but I just cannot look at JM..he bothers the shit out of me and D&C just seems too commercialized now and idk it doesn’t feel the same …but that’s just me)
😁😁😁😁😁
RIP, James Casey. What a man, what a performance ❤
Jerry and Hunter are smoking a doobie and watching this with a huge smile somewhere out there
Please Lawd Please Lawd, let us get a Billy² & The Kids full tour in 2022!
For the 24 thumbs down….you obviously need to get over yourself….YES others are aloud to sing a Jerry song. This is one of the BEST covers of this song out there.
Idiots. Do they think that Jerry is in heaven thinking " How dare that anyone should play my last song" Contrare, Billy Strings was the future and the future is HERE! Awesome version and you can see in his face the respect he has. While I'm at it, ty John Mayer, very much.❤
Um, yeah, I wasn’t ready for that. Wow. Really made me miss the big man.
I type this with happy tears in my eyes. This was awesome! Anyone else overcome with emotion ?
Yep
Me too!
Crying as I read your comments! So…yup “overcome” for sure! :)
Completely.
Yes
That one guy wiping his tears away at 3:55 during the sax solo is me lol. It’s involuntary, you like the sounds they make and water starts shooting out of your eyes 😂😂
I'm wiping em away right now just on the RUclips. Real men cry during So Many Roads!
@@mtthffmn we got a so many roads during JRAD last weekend and holy shit was it tear inducing
Dude fuck yeah man! He just passed away😢 such a good sax player nfa
@@JAYREZ1ONATORRIP James Casey ❤️🤙
Worthy of coming back again & again & again.
& I do ✌️🏴
I write this every single time, but JAMES CASEY, GOD FUCKING DAMN!!!!! Always enjoy this, even through the tears...they're happier tears these days though - RIP JAMES
Forever James Casey you are in my prayers. So much talent.
Robert Hunter got the lyrics that make me feel things and stuff.
Hunter lyrics have been sang in my head and felt in my heart since ‘92 more than any other slinger of words that have shed light in my life like he has. Listening for three decades now and I’m still amazed. Add Garcia and well you got yourself something rare and special, eternal even. Love knowing that today someone will find his lyrics and stories with Jerry painting to his words and become inspired and hungry for more of what they just heard.
SO MANY ROADS, INDEED! REST IN PEACE, JAMES CASEY!!! THANK YOU! GONE WAAAAAY TOO SOON at the age of 40....1983 - August 28, 2023
Billy doesn't just sing this song.......
He *deserves* to sing this song. Someone coming from the counterculture, with more than three times the talent he would need to be accepted by the whole world. Those people are hard to find, and I can't name many...to placate the masses, I'll name Hendrix and Garcia and stop there
Most people don’t realize that he’s an even better singer/writer than player/performer. “Generational talent” doesn’t even start to cut it
probably the only person alive who can do this gorgeous composition the justice it deserves
hahahaha
Needs a few more run through's from the top, but HUGE potential.
River Kelly
Thinking the exact same ✌
haha, it's not that hard bro
Its an underrated masterpiece, and it has that added weight of Jerrys last performance. Any rendition is going to be judged against one of the most powerful moments in GD history.
I cant see any of the other post Jerry frontmen being able to pull this off.
RIP James Casey. Love this rendition. In his honor I guess we should all schedule an exam for that area “Down where the sun don’t shine.”
youre killing me here... one of the greatest songs on earth. ya'll did it. gratitude.
Billy Strings makes you feel this song not listen to it. The last 3 minutes an his run at the end is unreal!
I agree had goosebumps the last 3 minutes. So many roads was the highlight of both nights for me!
He sucks
THIS BAND NEEDS TO TOUR!
Yes they need to come to the central coast CA SLO county we’d I’d love to see you all 💞☮️🤙🏼🤗🥰🥳💃🎶
The world isn’t ready for THAT band to tour. We have only so many faces
Heart of America ❤ ahhhwuuu blow that whistle
The tradition is in very good, elegant hands.
Rest in Peace, James Casey. Such talent, gone too soon.
Billy can break my heart with songs like this. He is so sensitive and honest. LOVE YOU BILLY STRINGS😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
3:10 the exact moment a young security guard found the meaning of life.
Yes!! Haha so awesome
Is he hitting a weed vape there that someone gave him probably ?! Hahaha
At one GD Madison Sqr Garden show, where the taper section transitioned from metal stands to concrete section, an usher is assigned to check tix for access to the floor. The usher takes his glasses out, reads the ticket, and then puts glasses away. By close to start of the show, 3 people stream by for every one ticket checked.
By the end of show, the usher is completely turned around and dancing to the Dead. I elbow my buddy Dan, and we share a silent laugh.
@@mikemm60 Epic!!
Thought the same thing! ✌️
"So Many Roads" is the Grateful Dead's most underrated song (and, of course, my opinion is the most important one).
Sweetest version since Papa's '95

Over 50🔥🔥lol

They still do add that certain bounce we love.
Amen.
Yeah we do!
The end gave me chills. Billy is UNREAL!! ❤️⚡️
Bro exactly the same! Was amazing
RIP James, Fare thee Well!!
The sax fits so well with this tune.
In my mind the legacy of the dead will live on through this prodigy! Amazing!!!!
Bowled me over like a sledgehammer. About time. This kids the real deal.
Brent AND Jerry are both smiling down on this great young artist performing the song beautifully. Thanks Billy Strings, James Casey, Bill Kreutzmann! Magnificent!!
THIS IS THE SOUL THE DEAD NEEDS THESE DAYS
RIP Casey take those sweet Melodies to the great gig in the sky
Billy and the kids are way better than Dead and company especially with Billy Strings playing 👍❤️🙏.
Yes
Facts
It's different! To say it's way better is to say you have a favorite Dead song.
@@ONSLAWTT I actually don’t have a favorite Grateful Dead song . There are just to many that I like so much 👍
@@ONSLAWTT honestly I am just not a fan of John Mayer
what respect from such a young dude
Oh Billy. I lost my dad 2 days ago. It's OK. He was 99. that was NOT a typo. You surely channeled Jerry, but still owned the song and made it your own. Thank you for taking me down this road and easing my soul. This was just what I needed to take me away and fill and replace the deep sadness and pain in my heart with joy. You made this say old man smile today. Thank you!!!
The music lives on. Appreciate it while you live on your borrowed time.
Let's all go see em.
It’s almost like it never stopped 😃
2nd best So many roads I have ever heard
What’s the first?!
@@sarahthrasher7895 10.1.94 q=']
@@coseyebe330 Nah man. 7/9/95. 10/1/94 is good too though
ruclips.net/video/6sFyRQPraJ8/видео.html
JRAD has a couple of great versions too.
I think this song means so much to Dead fans because of the 7/9/95 version. I just get immersed into the lyrics and music of it and appreciate all iterations.
I've been listening to Billy doing bluegrass for years. I first heard this I swear I thought it was Jerry. Most don't know Jerry started out playing blue grass here in NC too. Billy can play any syringed instrument, but his mastery of the electric guitar leaves me speecless
He sounds so good singing this song
Hasn't been sung like that since 7/9/95
😓
This is my favorite Dead "cover band" of all since Jerry passed
Absolutely incredible. I’m 24 and just recently got into the dead after seeing D&C this past September. I’m absolutely obsessed at this point, and so many roads has become one of my favorites. I really like John Mayer in D&C, but I can’t imagine he could rock this song as good as Billy Strings does right here. Jerry will and never could be replaced, but Strings and Mayer are doing a great job carrying on the tradition. I’d love to see Strings on stage with D&C sometime
John I'd great with D&C and I am happy to have been able to see them but Billy plays this so well and puts a whole new spin on so many grateful dead songs. Makes me so happy
I still predict that Billy will join the group part-time when Bobby hangs up his rhythm guitar 💯
Keep exploring, started in 3rd grade thanks to old sisters around 1986!!!
Wasn’t trying to shed a couple tears to start my weekend but here I am. So heavy. 🤘
😢
Probably the best show I have ever seen
Billy was born 8 months after the first time I saw Jerry sing this tune at Oak Co. I can even remember what I was doing the day he was born, visiting my brother back East, just a few days before I turned 31. Music is timeless and ageless, Billy's gift is a blessing to us all.
Saxophone solo came brought forth from a beautiful dream. I cried... repeatedly. Sorry.
Listened again for the countless time on my way to work today. Chills from head to toe. Amazing rendition. Billy is super special!
The music is in great hands. I can’t even imagine how proud Billy K must have been during this performance.
BIG chills watching this. The solos are so reminiscent of Jerry.
The last 2 minutes are nothing short of cosmic.
I was there that first night hearing this and it was TRULY AMAZING. I had Goosebumps and Joyful Tears on my cheeks listening to this. We all could feel Jerry Smiling Down on Us. So Many Roads and So many more to come, so sweet.
Rest easy James Casey. Dang.
This group has the "Dead magic" that I haven't felt since Jerry died. Incredible!
Billy on the jerry ballads is outstanding. Gives me hope for the future
Heart Beat of America cap on, He's the real DEAL!
I cant stop watching these clips! Smiles and tears, this is where its at! Hoping they do a few shows a year. The road goes on forever!
Billy's seamless transition from lead to rhythm is top notch
Damn that was beautiful
And on Billy’s Grandpas jailhouse built guitar at that. Jerry is happy.
Lol I’m the guy walking down the stairs in the avs shirt when they zoom in on that girl dancing.
I was watching this today and was like “WOAH ITS ME!”
Ouch....this hurts so good
❤⚡💙
Ok, they teleported the Branford in to the mix. Love it!!! Thank you Billy Strings.
I was there!!! One of my favorite Dead tunes of all time too!! Billy did a stellar job covering those vocals and guitar parts!
An immensely satisfying version.
If you arent in a puddle by the time Billy really starts hitting that shit around 7:15, we are not cut from the same cloth
Thank You
He was born with his talents he is amazing
Something in my eyes Joy in my soul Facing the Sun with a Smile Smile Smile ! Long Live Jerry
Magical. Moving. Touched my soul.
Every cover they do is pure gold
These cool heads are great!!!!!!! Thank You for posting this excellent performance.
My first roads was 95 and the imagination is brought to me now it is a song to myself get up from my battles and keep moving forward
Full body goosebumps
Okay so after listening (for the 1st time) & after 5x I have to say this is spectacular. Eat your hearts out D&C & JRAD as THIS is how its done. Well done Billy✌💯✌
I had chills from head to toe when they played this. At Red Rocks to boot. So beautiful.
Wow! Just wow. Thank you!
greatest billy vocals holy tish!
Dude. That crescendo heart on the sleeve final 2 minutes. Thank you Billy strings and thank you Billy and the kids. This was so good.
I’ve seen a lot people dissing th, I think he’s a great singer and his harmonies r fuckin amazing here!
From 6:28 to the end is insane, Billy's fucking crushing it
My friend was trying to make conversation and we both stopped mid-sentence at that part… it GRIPPED your attention in an indescribable way
Love added sax to Jerry’s and Robert Hunter song. Thanks
Thanks Billy and the Boyz!
So many roads Billy and like Jerry, you ease MY soul. I love you Billy strings Do you stop at nothing? My heart beats from my rib cage
Only one to take us home to red rocks.
So special to hear that prison guitar wailing through Red Rocks!❤️❤️❤️
Dead covers don’t get much better than that 😊🥲
