2 years later and this is still incredible. That Billy solo in Mississippi 1/2 Step gives me an overwhelming feeling of freedom and victory.
When Weir inevitably retires, it would be awesome for Billy Strings to take his place. Strings, Mayer, Otiel, Chimenti - "the road goes on forever, and the party never ends".
My man James Casey killin it on sax !!
RIP James Casey
That's Billy , experienced you guys the first time when I was 19. I am now 75 ,we are growing old together.
Yeah, I started tearing up about that. Not sad but, wow, time has flown.
Me at 17 and now 66. I enjoy the new treatments of the old songs. Different but still good.
Long May You Dance Buddy Paul.
@@nealhitchcock3519 Alright i am 51 and you guys are making my feel old, o wait dam i am old ,were the hell did it all go.
I just turned 59 yesterday.... growing old with the boys!
Wow - just unbelievable how they capture the spirit of the Dead. That drummer is OK - I hope he makes something of himself
Definately shows he has a taste of talent... 🤣😛😅
🤣
i am beginning to want to see Billy Strings with Dead and Co instead of John Mayer
J R Dont sweat it Man , i just heard he all but has it locked up as the new drummer for Nickelback . he ll be allrite . .
@@peterbetts858 Whew - I hate to see talent go unrecognized
Damn sax man got chops!!!!!!
Killin it 🔥
Noticing the most replayed sections are all the Billy Strings parts. He’s so great.
Yeah Boy. That absolutely SMOKED!
The addition of the Sax was the best thing I've heard in a minute or two.
James is Awesome!!

Decade or 3. Spring 1990 sax city
Yeah, love that sexy sax!
This is awesome, 50 years of listening to Jerry and the dead. Never gets old for me. 😀 Nice job everyone.
Oh, this is just so goddamn good!
...across the Rio Grandio....
sigh. I'm a happy old man right now.
Rip James! You’re a legend! God bless you Man U killed this set
2023 & I’m still wishing I could of been there
Nice Backyard Bill
☠️😉☠️
Who knew this would become two amazing nights of music at the Red Rocks. Anyone ever thought that would happen! Billy hope you had a birthday for the ages.
Seems like I have never seen Billy K smile this much ever, bless his heart.
Personally, every time I hear Bill Kreutzmann play the drums the notion quickly comes to mind that the biggest reason I love Bill’s drumming is because his style is just so “Kreutzmann-y”… I mean seriously, his Kreutzmannship has always been on just a whole ‘nother level!
Billy K was 25 the first time I saw him perform. Wow time flies.
Fillmore, Winterland, Greek... miraculous times never again to be seen. Late '60's, early '70's, greatest Dead era ever; esp. that year with both Pig & Keith...
Now, Billy S. is older than K was back in the heyday... And now everybody sez Billy S. looks like a kid...LOL!!!
Get it while you can...but if it's really great there may be cover bands, and some may take it even furthur.
These Dudes are just havin TOO MUCH FUN!!! 😂
Take this thing on the road, please. The songs are very good and would only get better.
Billy sounding like Derek Trucks here with that Les Paul. And I love it ❤️
And he's throwing back to Duane as well. Deal is so intense.
Billy the Kid is killing that Les Paul !! So great to see him a Gibson !! Sound of Band is knocking my socks off !!
Think it's a strat....
@@mikeagent6616Definitely a Les Paul
When Jerry died, you said you just wanted to find a way to keep playing, well man you did it!!! We’ve been together so many times and it does the heart good to see the vigor in you , happy bday in my home state!!!
@@bcpiet60 lol Made me smile :) "like wise would be a little grumpier "old" man"
then" cracking shots off the Red Rocks of Morrison Colorado in 1979 - my mind was deconstructed and reconstructed " smiled again must have been at the same shows:) skipped 9th grade to hitch hike from the western slope for my first show at red rocks:) yes a true lifetime groove in my soul and one foot always tappiin :) Peace Brother. Hearing Billy Strings sing gives me chills . What a talent ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I just heard him for the first time at least I know of like 24 hours ago just over 24 hours in 3:00 in the morning last night funny stuff but God music is music is love that's for sure God bless you
ARE WE EVEN REALLY LIVING? I CAN LISTEN TO THIS EVERY DAY
The Billy's are killing it!!
The Les Paul has the sweetest sound of any guitar ever. Fight me.
Billy The ONE DRUMmeR Strikes Again ! This is the third Billy Birthday party ive Been To ! Happy Birthday Billy !
This is the fresh take that we didn’t know we needed. Solid.
Well put!
I knew! But had no idea it would be this group. Wow!
Billy always delivers my brother 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Speak for yourself. I knew we needed it.
Just we needed !....!!! Way to go Billy the K ! - All the best for the next 75 !!!
The drummer kicking up time, again and again, my my the energy alone is something to admire!
This is so cool. So proud to play the drums. Forever young and grateful
I really love this line-up/project. It's so beautiful and that lead singer (his band is great) just works. Of course Strings is such a boss. Kreuztman forever. And that sax. ripping.
Lead singer is Tom Hamilton. He is one of my favorite musicians out there right now. Also leads JRAD.
@@jesseschurmann1956 Dude I got JRAD tix burning a hole in my pocket from August 2020!
tom hamilton cannot sing. he sure as hell doesnt sound like jerry. if he were in a d singing competition hed be out first round. Terrible voice
@@uncledeadhead3674 I'm pretty sure this wasn't a Jerry Garcia impersonator /stunt double contest... but for the love of all things grateful... enjoy with a open mind and leave the hate behind. No one will ever sound or play like Jerry ever again but that's ok and is what makes him special.
@@billsneedjills6675 uncledickhead is more like it.
Happy Birthday Bill... from south Kona.. excellent sound mix..
But shitty camerawork.
Man... I hope they release this to download. They sound phenomenal.
I think Bill's book was the best of all the members I've read so far. He dishes a little dirt just to spice it up and tells some good stories. The kidds are also one of the better post Jerry bands. Jam on Bill the drummer.
Haven't read the others' books but Bill's was wildly entertaining.
@@tommywalzer9051 I just finished Phil's for the first time and highly recommend it to anyone here reading this! Searching for the Sound
Livin with the dead is the best one eventhough they all try to say its not true. Im partial to the PLQ but this is pretty good too
@@tommywalzer9051 Phi's book is a must read too
@@sneakonproductionz I might check that one out, thanks.
Hey Billy your drumming sounds great!
Love that B.S. on Les Paul and great vocals.Who is that great guitar/vocal w/ the shiny head and beard? Also Happy birthday 🎂 greatful drummer, and do you like doing Gibbs on NCIS? Healy thanks
Bruh. What kind of atmosphere is this? What well networked rich person arranged to have this at their house w 20 people onlooking??
What an incredible scene!
I believe that this is Billy Kreutzmann’s home in Hawaii.
@@jeffgaumond4250 oh ok…that’s awesome and I guess that makes sense
Love and digital hugs Billy! You’re looking great, hope you feel blissed out man! Rock on!
love that Jack-A-Roe...spot on
Wow the break & jam at the end of Mississippi, damn y’all I can’t front, that was a tear-jerker for me. The front man absolutely RIPS this to shreds. Just DAMN. The sax really adds a lot too!!
What a banging’ “Don’t let your deal go down”! Everybody just killing it. And I love hearing Strings on the electric✌️💚💡
Billy is versatile, he can play anything, with anyone at anytime! I don't like him at all do I , lol. He is absolutely my favorite guitarist of all time. I'm 57. Experienced 💚
Jerry was a bluegrass player early on, so it goes on :)
cheryl williams I thought you were talking about Kreutzmann , the same can be said about him .

They need this band to play Red Rocks 80th year anniversary this summer!
I’m hearing rumors of a Colorado show ...
@@woodywills1904 you're talking Billy, right? Cuz I'm seeing Fiddlers...
NICE CALL!! I’ll be there 7/12/21 for my first Red Rocks show!!! First Billy show. Second time seeing Strings ta boot. This lineup is sick! It’ll be THE concert if Summer ‘21!!
@@pharphromphinished me too bro can't fucking wait
@@pharphromphinished the worst dead and co show will be better than anything billy strings has ever or will ever do.
Billy's guitar solo on Deal FREAKIN RIPS 👌🏼
Everything and everyone on Deal FEAKING RIPS. (And String's singing on Jack Arooo is gorgeous.)
Happy 75' Billy!
HAPPY B Day!!
This is super tasty !!! So great that Bill is still playing and clearly loving it !!!
I can listen to this over n over n over.....
It's probably hard for Billy S. not to hit a few bluegrass notes, just out of pure habit. But he is hanging right in there ! So proud and happy for him😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Billy Strings can do anything he wants
I mean, so did Jerry.
It’s incredible how reserved he played. It’s gotta be hard to switch from super fast picking to carefully laying out notes > building up with the band. His tone felt like Duane Allman playing lead with The Dead.
@@biscobarry1783 I too was impressed with Billy's patience and maturity. He didn't overplay and made lots of room for the other musicians
Jerry always got from the flat 3rd to major 3rd, Jerry always doing bluegrass
That bass player has it down perfectly
Happy hippie birthday Bill !!!
Yes! A great performance from paradise!
IMHO this is the best and most high energy. post Jerry line up. Totally smokes & a bit unexpected to me at least.
Suddenly Billy is my best ….while looking for GD sound ..he will be the king of GD present generation..respect others who brought us here toDay …..52 years of enjoying ..life changing ..
That guitar tone is killer
Billy strings does a very good 70's Weir style rhythm guitar. I'm loving it! Also very interesting him on electric.
Billy Strings does a very good every kind of guitar - it's pretty damn mind blowing.
His genius on acoustic just doesn't transfer to the electric, yet anyway but he's so damn young and he's always focused on acoustic so there ya go...he has to know this as just look at the difference between Billy's solo in half step and then Tom...night and day...but I can't wait to hear him progress...acoustic and electric are two different beasts.
@@BrandonPetrucci He played electric previously - he was in metal and rock bands as a teenager. Also, when he goes "electric" on his acoustic during his more recent solo shows (which is to say with his band) he's used a ton of effects that he didn't use here. He's sounded better at those shows and they have more than a few times veered into full on tripped out Grateful Dead territory. But I 100% agree with you that his playing didn't fully translate during this first show. At least not during the portions we saw so far. I've watched a lot of Billy playing in the last couple years and although still certainly quite good, this was not his best stuff.
@@dumbstupid5065 If you ever watch videos where he's a guest, like he is in this series, he [almost] never tries to upstage the other players.... It's a respect thing..... The Sunday vid, where they were all sitting around jamming in the lounge, he did cut loose a little bit...... One of these days, i'd like to see him and the fellas tackle Voodoo Child....on electric, of course.... I think that's the Gold Standard of electric geeetar godliness.... There will never be another Hendrix or SRV, but methinks BMFS is very capable of being in the same orbit as them..... Tho, he'd have to substitute that LP with a Strat!
He reminds me of Richard Thompson in that you become so accustomed to his amazing picking on acoustic that you get floored on what a shredder he becomes whenever he does pick up an electric guitar
Tom Hamilton is really, really good on the guitar. I had heard a lot about Billy Strings, and nothing about Tom. I am very impressed.
JRAD?
Pure Fire 🔥 ....!!!
Thanks 😊 🙏...
This is smokin! Awesome to see all of you together!!!! Everyone looking and sounding great!!! Cheers!!!
god dammmmmmm!!!!!!! awesome sound!! HBD Billy!
Who knew 50 yrs later this music would still be carried on and with Santana to boot.
What a wonderful memory, wish they did this again!
Holy Toledo!!! Billy Strings!
I've been following Billy Stings for a while before this show. Red Rocks really shined a light on his star.
What a gem of a live recording. Tom Hamilton, Casey, and the Billy’s really capture that tone and feeling. Incredible!
What a long strange trip it's been! Happy 75th and keep Truckin' Billy!! Cheers\=/\=/
Lead singer has a great voice!
Happy Birthday Billy! This is the best I've ever heard or seen you play the drums man. Like goddamn you're on fire!

Best Dead cover band ever? Wonder where they found that old drummer dude?
Stu Allens' (?)
😜
I wonder? lol
Hes got pedigree , he was in the Warlocks . .
Hardly.
Love of music spirit and don't forget heck a fun
Strings completely understands Garcia. 22:32 proves it
He is a learner and picks the best models to learn from.
Whoa, this was 🔥🔥🔥! Happy Birthday Billy! ✌️✌️✌️
Rest in Power James Casey.
I've always believed that if you took a knife to the Dead and began whittling, you'd be down to Jerry and Billy before it wasn't the Dead any more. Happy birthday Billy!!!
Interesting theory. I guess you need drums but I always thought it would have been Jerry and Phil. They were the backbone I felt. And neither being involved in the current incarnation is tough. Either way, this is a great show 👍🏼
@@bidotube I can hear that. And it is a great show. 👍🏼
Let's not get carried away....
idk man, its not the Dead without Phil bombs and Bobbys punching rhythm either.
@@blobweird123 Yup!
Some of my friends never went again after Pig died.
Ok. I'm impressed. Was recommended to watch this stream from a friend but I'd never got into any post Dead or JGB but this is good. Except that it's interrupted so violently by loud advertisements.
