I’m going to work as I’m typing this. As soon as I get home tonight I’m learning this song. This is hands down one of my favorite dead tunes. I always look forward to Thursday’s because of your channel. Keep doing what you’re doing, homie.
this is, undoubtedly, my favorite dead song and I too cannot get over the key change. Gets me every fucking time, from the live recordings to the album. Your break at the end it so fire--definitely stealing some licks
Ever since I heard the M 1/2 Step from 9/3/77 I've loved this song. Saw it many times and played air guitar to it. Covid got me to learn to play and I now have 2 feet (with my retreads) firmly planted in mediocrity. Now I'm breaking this down, because... that's what we do... lol. Thank you. When I hit those notes in a run nicely on my new Gretsch G5220, it's like hitting a nice golf shot. I THINK I CAN DO THIS. Back to breaking it all down...I am now subscribed.
Davey, very well done, thank you. Suggestion. A bit more emphasis on the transitions between the various parts would be helpful. Creating the whole coordinated picture, if just by playing through it one time, would have been more helpful for me, anyway, than your entire solo at the end of the video. Two other things. Appreciate the story about the car wreck. In the area of NJ where I grew up, Rock and Rye was combining a shot of whiskey with a bottle of Rolling Rock Beer!
So awesome man! One of the best Dead songs...you have some major Dead chops...did you geek out in high school or what? Love it man!!! Is that an A major pentatonic Jamal the end with chromatics mixed in or are you switching back and forth between A and D scales? Peace The more I fuck with it I guess it may be A mixo
Thanks, Will! I dropped out of high school at 16 and hitch hiked around the country playing music on the street (originals, folk tunes, bob dylan, the dead, etc..) and I was blessed enough to have a strong friend group of deadheads and psychonauts. I’ve had a lot of experience playing and ingesting this music and the lifestyle over the years. And yes, it’s pentatonic, mixo and chromatic. It’s all three, usually is always all three. Maybe with a little Dorian here and there for spice.
@@tuckertammaro2985 Dude I've been sleepin. Holy shit the post-rio grande crescendo section is a mind melter for sure. I can't even pick one over the other now. Thanks for the suggestion!!
It’s your boy DAVVY! Shams lama ding dong. -Miss. whole step to a new song-I need more - 🚬 oh sherry our love holds on....wait...um yea...day I was born my daddy cried because I looked like the milk man
Yeah. Playin' for his life, right? Lol. I heard an interview with the chick he was in the car with. She talked about the accident & how it changed Jerry. Crazy shit.

As long as we have folks in the fam like you, we will be doing this forever.
That coda or whatever you want to call it really is so beautiful. It’s strange to me that two major chords can have such aching beauty
Thanks!
In the intro, you said 5-4, but tab appears to say 3-4.
This is one of the best Half-Step solos I've ever heard...including the GD. so so so beautiful man.
Man,I've noticed learning a lot of dead tunes go in and out of keys, borrowing chords, sec doms, etc.so creative and fun
When you really think about it, a lot of the stuff they did shouldn’t have worked. But boy, did it.

I love the channel, it's really perfect, it's helped me evolve on guitar, and I think you guys are really cool.
Great job man.
Ps: I used the translator so sorry for the mistakes.
No apology needed! We think you are really cool too!

That was the version that did it for me. It's perfectly executed. That show as a whole is one of my favorites as well.
as a Mississippian this one holds a place near and dear to me ol' heart
hey man, thanks. i cant believe i can finally play this song.
I love your videos man - Good instruction and very entertaining - Thanks!

i’m a little lost on the Am|Am/maj7|Am7 what’s the fretting on that
You’re basically doing a chromatic walk down on the d string from the 7th fret to the 5th fret all while keeping the a/a minor barre shape.
Nice content! cheers from Murfreesboro TN.
love the content brother.
Thanks! This is awesome. Chill vibe
So f*ckin' great. I was just wondering what rock and rye was 🤣 Now I can get on with my life!
cray cray fun & instructive! thanx
5/7/77 y’all are welcome 💛 also great videos my dude love the content
That’s such a good show. Thanks for dropping it!
I'll try 5/7/77 if u try 9/3/77! 🙂 seriously my favorite halfstep
@@michaelmccarthy9088 everyone always points me to 9/3 but I think 5/7 beats it out by a hair

What I gotta do for you to do helps in the way
The 3-4 on the D string in between the 7 on A and 4 to 5 slide on A isn't being played.
Great job man! 🕴👯♀️💆🏼♂️🧖🏿♀️
excellent Thanks!
BE-UE-TEE-FULL F’ing solo,no sh*t closed my eyes and saw Jerry ...creepy cool ,✨🙏✨
What’s the jam in? A major?
Yessir. A major pentatonic with mixolydian
@@TobyDavvy Is that with A mixolydian or do you go to D mixolydian?

Dorks and the dead I’m down lol
Welcome to the family!
🔥Hot AF
You know because most tuners really suck it would be cool if you started your video with a quick tuning to get everyone on the same musical note

Insane story.
Anyone else here just for the comedy and not actually learning the song 😂
That’s the only reason I’m here. Don’t even know what a guitar is.
@@TobyDavvy 🤣 keep it up I like it
Great vid. Too much reverb though.
