Great video. When anyone searches to learn a dead tune you'll be the one that ends up teaching them. That, my friend, puts you as part of the Dead story. I dig it. Thanks for doing the work
Your lessons are great, Davvy - thank so much for putting the time into them each week. One specific thing I really appreciate as more of a newbie guitar player is that you show the actual construction of each chord. I'm sure experienced players prob don't even notice but it is so helpful to those of us learning the song and also different positions for various chords at the same time. So many youtube lessons don't have charts, are hard to see quite what's being played (too fast or not close enough), and are just referenced by name as if it's a given that the chord shapes are known. You do a great job explaining them - so thanks for that ! That said - here's a request: some kind of lesson on Scarlet-->Fire (either / both / transition) ideas would be amazing...
Interesting that after 3 years, I’m finally watching this. I didn’t realize after listening to Jack Straw, how many chords are in this song! Bob Weir is a genius!
I have been watch guitar/bass lessons on youtube for like ten years. And I have never until now felt any desire or compulsion to like or comment or generally participate. I stumbled on to You guys last week. and I gotta admit…. I think I’m a fanboy. I watched most of these lessons and I first few podcasts. I might just have to break my patrion cherry. Wier : “..jumps like a Willys in 4wheel drive, what don’t you get?” Hunter: “I get it Bobby, it’s just not a good line.” HILARIOUS
Thanks for the lesson! It does not matter one way or another but I would have suggested that the chorus is the pre chorus and the bridge is the chorus. 😂
Hi Davvy, greetings from Orange County, CA - been playing these incorrectly for quite a while. Thank you sharing the results of what I would guess took quite a while to figure out. .
Dude your the man Davvy. And RUclips totally had you listed with 3.2 M at one point last week after I subscribed. I heard it come up in the chat during one of your live streams.
One of my favorite Dead tunes ..... thanks Davvy ! Really enjoyed listening to you ...... Maybe you could share a little more info on how you solo over the " bridge" ( ha ha ) Pentatonic in ? , Mixolidian in ? , or whatever it is , for us beginners!
Hey thanks. I had for some reason thought Jack Straw was a really tricky tune, but you laid it out all nice and easy. How about Lost Sailor or Weather Report?
I’ve already got the rest of the year planned out, but those two are definitely on the list for the nearish future. Thanks for being a part of the fam, homie.
I love all your licks and soloing over this. There are some other people online who break it into Bobby voicings and then a jerry part but the whole thing with the Dead is a song is a world of its own a place you go to and the exact voicings are not even the point..
@@TobyDavvy haha figured... quick question - I realized I have a copy of logic pro x (got for son few years ago)... I opened and had no idea where to start - Toby or you have suggestions on quickly learning this beast to create backing tracks, etc.? Thanks man.
Nice. I love suspending my E. Scratching my Dead itch all over on a weekly basis, but I've got a Zappa rash coming on, do you have anything to help with that?

This means a lot to me. Thanks CJ. For real.
Just replace "sustained" with "suspended" about 20times in the video, that been said, it's a pretty great lesson.
Yeah, that bugged me, too. Lol
It's great to see and be with people who take their work seriously, without taking themselves too seriously.

Thank you so much for this amazing feedback. You kick ass, Scott. Scarlet > Fire will be happening very soon.
These are the best Grateful Dead tutorials on RUclips. Love your humor.... you crack me up, Davvy.
Agree
Awesome, showing the little licks and fills between chord changes is super helpful. It’s improved how I play songs a ton. Thank you!
Thanks for being part of the fam!

Outstanding! Great mix of song breakdown, theory, & humor; all connecting with Jerry’s emotion. Thank you Davvy!

Spent the last two weeks trying to find a great JS instructional and then this pops. F-yeah! Thanks!!
Glad to be of help, Steve!
Hi Davvy, greetings from Orange County, CA - been playing these incorrectly for quite a while. Thank you sharing the results of what I would guess took quite a while to figure out. .
Nice song selection. Thanks Davvy! I once heard this tune while an eagle was flying above me exactly when bobby sang that line. surreal.
That’s incredible. Crazy how things sync up like that in the best moments.
Thanks Davvy, I love you’re videos. You are one of my favorite RUclipsrs that in courage me to be a better guitar player. Thanks.
Davvy you had me at the Bm to D but that's what my ears heard. Great lesson. Fun teacher. Thank you Bro.
Nice to see and accomplished guitarist with ears.
Best channel on this platform🔥🔥🔥
My dad realy wants me to learn Terrapin Station.... and i will only learn it from Davvy
That’s high praise. We will not let father down.
thank you very much for the lesson, I’m a new subscriber! Chilling here in Novato going to take a bike ride to Olympali this weekend. yeeeeeee
Great lesson, especially for us that use instinct instead of theory.
One of my favorite tunes as well.

Great lesson Davvy
Superbly done, as always, Davvy!
Nice lead! Could you possibly go over the thought process for how you approached your lead? Thanks!
Man these lessons are AWESOME! I laugh my ass off and learn a bunch too. Thanks bro!
I’m stoked that they work. My whole plan is to make you learn while you laugh.

Amazing! Thanks man! Keep em coming!
Super cool lesson, thanks! Was the lead/solo in E mixolydian?
So great, as always. Please keep doing what you do so well!

Man!!! I have an old Aria pro from late 80s. I've never seen another one :)
Hell yeah! I love this guitar. It has served me very well.
Davy: Great stuff. Lessons are Eggsellent!!!!
Thanks, Chase!
Thanks man. Learning so much through this channel and improving the playing big time! No bridge graphic? Lol.
I couldn’t in good conscience use the bridge graphic for a “not a real bridge” bridge. It just didn’t feel right.

So some requests for songs: Picasso moon, Foolish heart, Bucket, Dupree's, Bombs away (I know it is random).
I love all of these! I’ll definitely move a couple up the list
Nice. I love suspending my E. Scratching my Dead itch all over on a weekly basis, but I've got a Zappa rash coming on, do you have anything to help with that?
I’d totally be down to go over some Zappa stuff on the live streams.
solo at end is sweeeet
nice lesson, thanks !
Thanks for being a part of the fam, Todd!
God damn. That’s a lot tougher than I expected. Great great song though.
You got this, dawg. Just crack out on it. Get it down. It’s just repetitionz
I dig the videos. Just a heads up though, that "sus" is short for suspended. You're suspending the chord with the major 4.
Correct. I misspoke. It happens.
@@TobyDavvy fact! Keep on rocking!
So good so fun
Oh hell yeah this one should be awesome!

Aw hell yeah
Thanks!
Hiiii DAVVVVVY missed ya. Let’s roll fam.

Could someone possibly tab the G chord that he plays?

I’m the guy teaching you the lessons. Toby makes other videos on the channel.
Wish these were a little more dumbed down like where do I put me fingers dawg
A bridge is a bridge if you want it to be a bridge
Wise words from a wise man.
Could you do a Gomorrah guitar lesson? That’d be swell.
Gomorrah will be coming soon, my friend!
the first 10 seconds were gold.
I think he means “suspended 4th”, not sustained.
Yeah bro, I’m just a person. I get to misspeak sometimes.

Suspended.

“Suspended”.

Nah, more like El Paso and Mexicali. Those are the other two in the Gay Cowboy Quadrilogy
You can't teach with all those pedals on. Flanger chorus whatever. It sounds nothing like the jack Straw intro.
“I can’t learn with all those pedals on”
