I was reviewing this video with my notes from when it was first posted, and I realized why (IMO) Davvy's lessons are so cherished in the community. They are the perfect balance of simplification and challenge. Let's face it, if you can bang out Lick #1 & Lick #2 in proper time without interrupting the flow of this song... you are probably at least a decent, functional intermediate (unless this is all your practice for 3 weeks). However, even a progressing beginner can get the FM's and a walkdown or two with a little practice. I think for the most part, Davvy is showing us "how he plays it," at least in general terms, and that makes it a very rewarding experience. If you can walk away from even one of these lessons thinking "I can't believe I am playing this at this level", it makes you feel like maybe someday we can get somewhere close to the level of Davvy's playing. For me, that is all the hope and motivation I need to keep playing.. Davvy deserves a sincere thank you from all of us for these treasures....
Finally. Been waiting on this one for a while. Thanks guys
I’ve always thought of the song as a three verse song with no chorus. Kinda an AABA thing. This is good stuff. I transcribed this years ago and then did Bob’s parts a few years back. I’ve been trying to convince a band or another guitarist (for an acoustic duo version) to learn it ever since. My Jerry part is played pretty differently, but I’m positive yours is more accurate now that I’ve been able to see video of Jerry playing it. I only saw him play it twice live (my first show in ‘83 and my last show ‘95). I’ve got a recording of me playing both parts (no video) on RUclips I think. You may have finally inspired me to play it more accurately. 😂
In 1990 I went to Indiana to Deer Creek to see the Dead and 10 minutes before they came on for the second set, a dude next to em yelled out "Help Slip Frank" and sure as heck that is what they did. How he knew, I do not know.
SoNar 🐉☀️⛈️🌈🍄🎨🎙️
My mom and dad were both at that show and they didn’t meet each other until 1994
I don’t think he knew, I think they heard him…
That was the first show I actually got in to. Ahhh Deer Creek. Good times.
You did it! You said you would roll out Help/Slip/Franklin in December and you were good to your word. I'm dropping $ to you as I promised! Thank you. Why can't you put it in our tiny little brains i.e. The Matrix!
Thank you! That helps a lot!

This is gold! Very entertaining also
Some of the best Dead tutorials on the net. Thanks
I'm a guitar beginner and I only learned the licks, the chords are still hard for me and seem impossible lol thank you so much for this lesson, Help On The Way/Slipknot! Is one of my favorites songs ever and someday I will learned it, this lesson is gold! Thx again!!
Been trying to learn this for the longest time but never could find a video from someone who could easily translate. Thank you!!!
Happy to help.
alright, come across one issue, its the Dm called out during the verses in Lick 3. playing that chord alongside live versions, I think its actually a Dm7b5. This provides that slight "jazzy" sound that the band has when landing on that chord.
I agree! The Dm sounded a little weird to me. Good looking out!
@@noahduvarney8159if you wanna see the actually correct chords, look at weeping willow video, this one is still good but is lacking in a few spots....still great vid tho for someone that don't wanna play harder chord patterns.
Thank you! Standing on the moon lesson would be great
Thanks
Sure appreciate all the video lessons. Smile smile smile
Patron saint of wooks. Blessed day to you sir
HOLY SHIT ITS HERE
You’re a Really Good Guy Davy
Davvy! I just got home from work, saw this video, looked at my dog and I swear she said "F! He won’t pay attention to me for a month now!". Thanks for the Xmas present buddy!
Enjoyed laughing, learning and eating some mushrooms! Thank you!
dude, I watch, I learn, I laugh, and I love it. Peace homie
Awesome❤
The Crockett Rocket as they call him! Thanks man
I'm starting on the big three! put out a video telling us your story homie!
All B.S. aside, you are one good teacher
Could you please do the weather report suite
Dude this is the strangest thing. Well maybe not the strangest, but pretty synchronicitous. Just started working on this one two days ago, which doesn’t seem that weird in and of itself, but it’s the first song of its caliber that I’ve ever attempted, and it’s the warmups and chromatic runs from the Golden Road that inspired me to try. I’m making it too. Thanks for the help. Assalamu Alaikum, brother.
Whip crack!!🎉
9/24/76, William & Mary
10/1/76, Indy

Gracias, Davvy ! ! !
nice what pedal to use on the solo
Can you play hurts me too next
that intro! LOL!
HOLY SHIT !!
Thanks for the tip!
Alright boys I need some assistance. I noticed John plays this a different way live. It’s the same key right? Is he just outlining the f# on the second fret?
Correct.
What’s your fav live help on the way? I think mines gotta be Oakland 76 from dicks picks 33. Jerry sounds soooo good on the solo. Have a great weekend brutha !
I'm choking on the splinters
Hi! Don’t mean to be criticizing this lesson, it’s really good, but are we sure it’s Dm7 in the verses? I always heard a Bb7 there. Thanks!
Hey, if that’s what sounds and feels right to you, go for it!
@@TobyDavvy Love your channel. Respectfully, there is a correct answer to what the chords are in the chorus. It's Bb>Ab>Ab(flat5). You can see Jerry fingers it this way. No way there is a Gm in the chorus.
thanks for this - look forward to the fist blasting of slipknot
Btw - you ever do any one off private lessons?
what a way to open the video 😂
anyone here got slipknot rhythm chords down?
The lesson next week is Slipknot. It’ll have everything you need, homie.
I’m sure his lesson next week will be more accurate and detailed. But I did this play through for a band mate years ago. Maybe it’ll help.

@@kendrickjim23 awesome stuff Jim! Whenever I play it, I get to right when your video cut out. I’m really curious what really goes on during the jams. Hopefully this video next week addresses some of that!
Where the funk is everyone!!!!
40 likes? i apologize rant over.
Killer….
I have always had a hard time with this song.
Sorry bro, that is one butt ugly guitar. Reminds me of a pair of tighty whities.
Do you do JamKazam? I would love to play rhythm for/with you.
