On a deployment in Iraq currently and I’ve been going deep on these play dead videos. Helping me pass the time and get through it! Thanks Davvy!
Thank you for your service, and best wishes for a safe deployment and return home.☮
We are with you brother.
Phenomenal as always Davvy! Can you do Weather Report Suite-Let it grow?
Yes!
Saw D&C play in chicago this year, space from night 2 got really dark and far out and it felt like everyone was a bit edge during it, there was just such a dark energy to that space (serpent theme that night) and at some point during the beam segment either an electrical component in mickeys rig blew or something of the sort and created a very harsh noice that sent a very strong feeling of anxiety through me and others around, one guy was even yelling no repeatedly and it almost seemed like the whole stadium was in a cloud of confusion, the other members of the band rejoined the stage and began to segway out of space almost cautiously or patiently as if they weren’t quite sure what to make of the vibe either, then dropped into UJB and it felt like everything just was breathing again and as if the band knew where everyone was during space and was here to comfort us and take us with them, i later saw that UJB was hand written onto the set list that was printed, maybe they made that call right there in that moment, anyway i guess that’s just my point of view and maybe not everyone had that, if someone out there was there i hope you leave your point of view whether the same or different✌🏼⚡️🫠
Awesome instruction Davvy thank you! Great point about the 3/4 instead of 4/4 at end of each verse. Also like the Bm7 instead of D in the G - Bm7 - C - D; it does sound better! You da man! Very thoughtful and helpful!
Thanks a lot Davvy, you got me back into playing Guitar with Play Dead. Please do Truckin and Cumberland Blues
I don’t think it’s ‘Am’ in the chorus at “what I want to KNOW”. When he says ‘know’ it’s a ‘D’ to ‘C’. So the chords at the chorus go
‘C’ ‘D’ ‘G’ ‘D’ ‘C’
Woah oh what I want to know
‘G’ ‘D’ ‘G’
How does the song go?
Something I noticed about the jam section is it can be seen as a ii-V-I in C major. FWIW
Thanx Uncle Davvy 👨🏫
Idk why this is bothering me so much but that opening lead line is wrong towards the end, I gotta go to work so I cant explain but give it a listen again. Dont wanna harsh any mellows, I love your stuff brother
the last three notes are a Dmaj triad - A F# D
Sorry it bothers you. Gotta tell you, though, I’m not gunna lose sleep over it. I’m already not a huge fan of the song, so giving you the perfect tab for the album version isn’t super high on my priorities. Especially since Jerry rarely played that line in live versions. He was jammin. I suggest you jam. Love ya.
Fair points all around. Youre absolutely right tho, Jerry jammed it out live, seldom played it note for note. I will do exactly that, thank you for the backing track. Fuego as always @@TobyDavvy
These videos you make are more important than any others on youtube. Keep making the best out there Davvy!
OH HELL YEAH. Wake up mfs ITS PLAY DEAD TIME!
Davvy? He delivers, always. (Thanks for your hard work, bud)
Special Request for Lay Down Sally
Hahahahah I always think of that Farley SNL skit whenever I sing that lyric.....well done sire!
both working man's & american beauty were released in 1970 (july & november) ... and at the time 'uncle' was performed in the opening acoustic set before the new riders .. the tune was the first lyrically epic song and set the tone for the next phase of the dead's evolution and exploration into the americana space of the harry smith anthology ... which loomed large with both hunter & garcia ..
You are the best Davvy! Thanks for everything. Sending love from Spain
At some point, hopefully fairly soon, I'm going to have to book some 1:1 lessons with you. Just love your teaching style, Davvy!

Was just on here the other day and said "bros haven't released in a few days hope it's all good?"
Then this popped up today. Relief.

these tutorials are so dope! keep em coming
Hell YEAH ! finally UJB …
You know, I saw Dead and company over the summer in Noblesville, and the crowd lost all momentum and went kinda cold when they played this song. They were bringing the house down with China Cat Sunflower into I know You Rider and then poof, let all the air out of the balloon. I love this song for more personal and nostalgic reasons having a close family friend named Uncle John, but I was on the side of the crowd here. It just didn’t jive
Which show were u at?
Noblesville, IN. @@August.West420
nooo wayyy, been waiting for this one
Gracias ! Can't wait to dig in !
Davvy! I love you buddy!
Thanks Davvy
There's some 1,2,3 1,2,3,4's in here. In the verse and at the G, C D min jam near the end and at the end, it's tricky at first but once you get that, I don't know if it's in 7/4 or what or just one of 4/4 and one of 3/4 but the best thing to do on some of the parts of this, is like this: 1, 2, 3 / 1,2,3,4 I think that's the best way to count that both for the G C Dmin progression, and the Jerry riff, then you can learn to play them both alternating, back and forth between the riff and the chord progression and stuff.
Edit: also I forgot to mention, the whole reason I mentioned this is because it is really cool once you get it the G C Dmin jam with the 7/4, again you can count it like da da da da dant (that 's the 1, 2, 3) dat daaaaa (that's the 1,2,3,4) roughly, and I wanted to mention because it such a cool thing to play, once you get it, and admittedly it took me a while, but it's like once you get it, i't so cool to play and it's in 7/4 so it feels so good to play, and you just want to keep playing it, maybe because there is no 8, it feels like it wants to keep going or something, and you want to keep playing it. You had to be Jerry to come up with something like this. It's great.
