I've been following Billy Strings for a little bit, and know he's a great musician and acoustic player. But I have to say, I did not expect him to be able to show up with a Les Paul and shred Dead tunes like this. Really glad there's someone close to my age to continue carrying on the legacy.
He also plays banjo and mandolin. That how he got his nickname when young.he could pick up anything with strings and play

Bill is a master of his craft, truly one of greatest and most under appreciated rock drummers of all time. He kicked the tempo up at 7:15 just to see if the boys could keep up.

I agree there are great players now but they not 'better' than their predessors at best they might be different but wouldn't even have a genre to ply their trade in were it not the earlier bands. So cut the ill-informed BS and just be glad that something which all musicians have done since the invention of the first instrument is now appreciated by the public at large.

They really got "something" here. Great sound. Great tempo. I'm blown away by the chemistry of Hamilton-Strings & Co. The sax really puts them over the top.

I remember back in the old days when I used to see the Grateful Dead tour of the Midwest 73 and 74 around that era Billy held the band together all by himself, he didn’t need Mickey and neither did the band… Billy is one of the greatest rock drummers ever
I saw them with Pig Pen and no Micky.. that was a nice time…
The shade on the praying mantis micky is unreal, John Densmore and Micky tie for best drummer imo
I didn't see them until 77 at Raceway Park Englishtown, NJ with New Riders and Marshall Tucker BUT I wish I would have seen Pigpen!!! seen them at least 115 times afterwards

Who knew who Billy strings was such a great electric player.? Reminds me of Bromberg, great flat picker and kicks ass on electric guitar too. Jorma and Jerry were also True acoustic/electric maestros. It’s two different worlds and few can pull it off.

Lots of people knew. He was into Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, etc. and played in a metal band when he was a kid.

This is the first and only time it's been played. Robert Hunter wrote the words. Billy wrote the music, and then they all learned how to play it together!!!!!!
@Dustin Miller this is the first time it's been played this way. BK3 with scott murawski did it different and back in 2010 or earlier. Same lyrics, just....different...both really good versions.
