Billy is in my opinion one of the very best musicians EVER he does it all but most of all he can feel the music and people. He can sing like nobodies business. He can play that guitar. He can move the crowd. He's chill as fuck. I never gave a crap about hollywood, most musicians or professional athletes but Billy is my hero. This kids got it. I am blown away.
you mean strings and not kreutsman?
He is the one.
Am i the only one who would love to see Billy Strings along with Derek trucks?
Nope
Best shows I have ever seen possibly
Energy was insane!!
I like to survey the employees at RR. This was hands down voted favorite show of 2021.
Red rocks is a magical place to see a show.
RIP James Casey :( This was truely one of my favorite moments of his on stage. Such a great musician, I'm going to miss seeing him at TAB shows and making special appearances. He was a true one.
Billy Strings, Billy & The Kids rock like the Dead, take notes Dead & Co.
I am pleased to see the 75 year old Billy playing with this amount of energy. He's been my favorite drummer for 40 years, and by watching D & C videos I could not tell that he was capable of this level of enthusiasm.
Don't know how anyone can be enthusiastic trying to play at the tempo Bob wants to play. And he still plays half the show looking confused and lost.
Kreutzman has always been a criminally under-appreciated drummer outside Dead cognoscenti. My opinion: the Dead were never better than when BK was holding it down by himself back there.
Love Billy K since 1977 but dig that Billy Strings with those Jerry riffs and licks! Close your eyes, Billy’s going to take you home! Thank you Billy K and young loving Billy Strings. My heart ♥️ swells.
@@adammuzzy2578 the only one confused here is you!
I am so glad to see young players like Billy Strings, Marcus King, Molly Tuttle, Taz and Kingfish Ingram in their different styles and approach, all exp prodigies being true to the.music, not playing the pop game and it make me glad to know this Americana , for want of a better word is in good hands for decades to come
^
I'm a 62 year old Deadhead and I'm a huge fan of all the players that you just mentioned. Add Gary Clark Jr to that list and I'd say the future is in very inspired and capable hands. ⚡❤️
Don't forget the amazing Holly Bowling! 😀
@@mrjonthehat I was focusing on guitar players under age 30, but I'll add Sierra Hull on mandolin and Nora Brown on banjo
ive seen them all live, and they are all fucking righteous in their own right. BS def has that Jerry vibe, Marcus has the ABB vibe, and Kingfish has that Buddy Guy vibe. Rock and Blues isnt dead is being born again!
Billy Strings is so unique because of his shared roots with Jerry in bluegrass. I think BS is gonna blossom and grow into a even bigger presence in the evolution of GD music. A true signpost to new space !!!
BS does GD music the way GD wish they could.. I like to thank the dead for writing some wonderful songs for Billy.. timing is a little backwards but they're all space cadets anyway..
I read in an interview that he got turned on to Garcia's bluegrass work first, which then led to the Dead, which is the opposite case for 99.999% of other guitarists out there.
here's hoping he stays healthy and sober
We stated hes got some magic
0oh yes.. it's gonna be glorious ❤💙❤ know that
I love how they make a song that is probably 50 years old sound fresh. I'm telling you....this the THE Dead Band!!!
Wrong!!! This is an excellent imitation of the Dead. Only thing new is they transition into something other than I Know You Rider. This is fantastic!!! Jerry is smiling for sure!
@@davidcunningham2984 >> I agree 👍 >> not The actual dead band, nothing will ever replace Jerry and the original members. I just like this band better than Dead & Co. Imo Dead and co. Has that sleepy vibe to it with mainly old geezers in the audience (like myself lol) . The Billy & the Kids version of playing Dead tunes has a lot more energy and creativity imo which I personally would prefer seeing live. To each his own. I like how Billy charged $25 a ticket a red rocks. How much would Dead & Co. Cost there? $50, $75, $100?? I'm not sure, but with John Mayer in the Band it's more about the money than the music imo. John is a sellout. The Dead never sold out with commercials in 60 years, but didn't take John long to capitalize off his Dead connection.
Billy Kreutzmann has to be the most underrated drummer of all time. People have been shaking their bones for 60 years to his rhythms,he is 75 and still plays at a very high level. He's doing a lot better than Biden who is the same age. Billy 2024
At least as good as Art Blakey…Bill is one of the all time greats for sure.
Billy might be the greatest guitarist on planet
Have you heard Matteo Mancuso?
you misspelled Jack Pearson
Jay Mascis
Kreutzman emerges as the most interesting Dead derivative going with the assembly of this band. True badass.
I wasn’t sure if that was him or not? Is he part of their band?
@@Mark-kq6ch , dude , that is billy. Of billy and the kids. Lol. Featuring billy strings.
Totally agree. Better than Dead and Co, although I like them too, but this band is just incredible in every way. Takes the Dead vibe to another level. Always loved Billy K. He's the human locomotive. Never gotten the acclaim he deserves.
@@Mark-kq6ch there in his band
@@jimmydean6467 ,dude , what? I'm talking about Bill Kreutzman, the person referenced in the original comment. Lol.
Billy really owns these songs the way Jerry did ! Been waiting 26 years for a guitarist playing with a dead member to do it !
I’m with ya. I knew this guy was the right fit when I stumbled upon him two or three years ago. Watching him play acoustic was so reminiscent of Jerry. I’m hoping he likes it so much he stays with it. This is the real deal.
tough shoes to fill. he does that!
Godd it kills me i ain’t there. Love bill and billy
Me too....tickets sold out in minutes. 😭
How did I not know about this?
Strings just energizes all musicians to there maximum level
The sax player looked like he was smiling the whole time! All of them just zoned into oblivion. Love it😍😍😍😍😍
me too, both "smiling" and "zoned " peace :-)
That’s no sax player. That’s James Casey. The most talented musician on stage.
He just passed away this week :( RIP James Casey
@@ReadIcculus93where did you hear that?
@hughmichaels3238 James Casey is in a band called Trey Anastasio Band, with the front man from Phish.
Trey and the other band mates put out a heartfelt message about the loss of James Casey.
He passed from complications due to cancer :(
This is wonderful. Hats off to Old Bill and Young Billy.
Just got in. Hey, is that Kreutzman on drums? And who's the bald guy? Isn't BS palying lead with the tatted arms?
A little help goes a long Way fom Home. Peace sister. **Ä**
Not Fade Away.
@@stefanschleps8758 and also hats off to baldo Tommy! dude can shred AND sing.
Opened first night with China Cat and closed second night with I Know You Rider!! That’s rad!! Bringin that 🔥🔥💀⚡️🔥🔥!
Not only was is great, I haven’t seen musicians having so much fun in a long time
Yes! Having fun. That is the key after you learn how to play music.
billy and mickey are by far the best 2 tandem drummers in the world. their body of work surpasses all. their solos alone were worth going to the shows. no surprise he kicks it still.
These guys were definitely in sync and having fun- sounding amazing ! nice to see the The 2 Billy’s playing together- Billy Strings is amazing- heard him mostly in blue grass - terrific guitarist - no surprise to see him tearing it up on the dead tunes - the rest of the kids are also amazing - this is Billy K’s project look at him smiling up there - very cool! Thank you much a great show!
Billy Stings will go down in history as a guitar God! One of the absolute best of all time!
Yeah him AND Buckethead
Great stuff! Billy and Billy, perfect together. Now I'd be thrilled if Billy Strings did some shows with Phil and Friends.
I see Jerry smiling down upon us!!
Much love!
Wow. For the first time -perhaps ever- I listend to this and thought: these fantastic musicians are playing a great version of a Dead song, instead of thinking: Oh, not a bad cover of a Dead song. This is new, fresh, alive, with a tip of the hat to the roots but otherwise looking ahead. Fantastic.
You don't cover Dead songs, you let them cover you.
Thank you for keeping the music alive Billy and The Kids!!!!!!!! Forever family, forever grateful!!!
Damn this is good Billy Strings is awesome
Don't know where I've been, but I just stumbled across Billy Strings a couple of days ago and haven't listened to anything else! What a great bunch of musicians! They remind me so much of the Dead!
Waking up to good music makes all the difference how the day plays out!💖🎶🎇🌻
The best living guitarist in the world
Thunder!
Love this band please tour
Billy Strings is touring. That's what matters 👍
Was at both shows up front next to the sound board. Was truly AMAZING!!! Best live music for me since Jerry left. I can't stop watching these vids! Having seen the GD 50+ times since '81, this was by far the best since
🙏😎⚡🤸♀️
I love the sax! ❤
Very nice.
"Did anyone ever tell you you look like Bill Kreutzman?"
"I am Bill Kreutzman."
I can't get over how good this is. I'm just discovering these guys.
Man does this make my heart feel good!!!all the pain goes out!!!yes.NFA
This song brings me back to "Europe 72", when I first got hooked on the Dead!!! It's the 2.0 , same song same Vibe!!! Job well Done!!!
"Thunder" is a great tune. Saw Mr Strings debut it with his regular group in Louisville just before Memorial Day. These musicians play it with an extra touch that really fits Hunter's lyrics.
Billy is an inspiration ..Move me brightly
just love that there are younger artists with such skill and artistry carrying on the tradition of this great music. Making it their own. Beautiful ! thanks for sharing.
Billy goes from strength to strength musicaly he has got it all .
Great band. Love that they all maintain their own authenticity while whipping up a classic like China Cat, and I love that they went into Thunder (instead of Rider). Also love seeing the older Billy hitting it with the Kids...
First time hearing "Thunder" and I gotta say it works really well with China Cat
dude yes! this is sooooo tight. tight is THE word to use for these guys
Fun fact, they opened the two day stint with China Cat and closed the second show with Rider. Mind blown
Spectacular, in a dismal world
Love the jazz vibe, everything Bill is in, is excellent. These young bucks are spot on!
I think I got a new favourite actually band.
And Thunder is a new, good Song with a great Guitar Riff!
Great Venue here.
Sax player is phenominal!
I've watched this an unhealthy number of times in the last 2 days. Man, do I wish I had been there to see it live! Their performance of "Dear Mr. Fantasy" from the other show is also probably the best rendition I've heard of that song besides the original. Awesome stuff.
Just had this pop up in my feed last night and I too have been watching it at an unhealthy number of times. Good stuff.
Agreed! So good. Dave Mason plays a stellar version at his shows too, better than the original IMHO.
It was incredible being there man, both night .. insain to say the least! Absolutely the best thing I have ever seen, and I have seen a ton of red rocks shows. As well as incarnations of dead music and this was absolutely special.
Check out the one with Clapton win wood and trucks
Kreutzman with all these young musicians emerges as he was the leader of the band....they can go on for hours....Beautiful.
one of the headiest things we’ve seen as of late,
I saw Billy Strings last night at a venue south of Syracuse, N.Y.
Exceptional talent.
Awesome! I Never saw him yet I was hoping to soon in Pgh Aug 11th but not sure I'm going to make it?
I broke my collarbone last weekend at my friends mountain camp in WV a plastic chair broke on me by the fire pit used my shoulder to hit the ground of rocks Lol So I'm not to mobile and in pain Ughhh
Yes. Apple Country in Lafayette. Great show. Doc Watson and Garcia, joined and reincarnated
Billy Strings kills it again 👍. Guitar and vocals.
just awesome. Can't wait to hear Billy at Grey Fox this July. And Donna the Buffalo. Been out of this scene for 40years and working on me chops. Music is UNIVERSAL.
I like Billy's approach to Jerry's playing
what a treat to see Billy just going to town Love it.
Wow thunder is such a awesome tune
Great! Music moving into a new direction. Feels and sounds fresh. That is what is needed so bad in music these days. And once again Billy Strings is shaking it down!
Billy looks so proud man, I'm so happy to see this
WOW... and the music continues
All the comments here are so spot on and articulately written. Well said….everyone!
Very cool; must keep watch for them on tour.
These cats really swing! The torch lives!
Kreutzman is truly a badass on the drums when it’s just him. He slaps that damn snare like a boss. Don’t get me wrong I love the loosely goosey lope of Billy and Mickey. That Billy snap though.
Nah man, they rythm devils. Think it sounds good now? Invite his twin...
Always enjoyed 72-74 the most for that reason. More freewheeling.
@@robcedar960 YES!
Billy Kreutzmann deserves a lot of credit for putting this "electric" band together .. maybe my #1 live band right now to see next tour (along with Pearl Jam) ... road trip !
Such a beautiful thing to behold! The Dead just get older and more wonderful.
loving the first two rows of the audience, proper
actually now that I see the rest of the crowd, count the entire audience!
billy strings is a once in a generation talent in the vein of Stevie ray Vaughan. each outing better than the last...truly a phenomenon. he can tear off any of the deads's rollicking numbers and it's every bit as good as the original. and i always did like the kreutzman drumbeat WAY more than the mickey stuff.
Other than the difference in genres, there many similarities between Billy and Stevie. Billy is the best I've heard since SRV!
This was amazing and I’m crying watching this again probably shouldn’t have eaten so much acid maybe I’d remember how amazing this really was
Passing the torch. Love it!
Cant stop watching these clips! Damn straight I will be there when they play again
Billy K sounds great. The tempos in D&C are obviously not his fault..
I thought the same thing after those first shows in Hawaii. I still like D&C but this lineup jams much harder imo.
I’m pretty sure it’s Bobby who prefers to play them that way. Apparently according to Trey, during rehearsal for the Fare The Well shows Phil kept encouraging Trey to play faster and Bobby kept telling him to slow down.
Bk is a perfectly timed machine... he's always there, right on time
You can listen through hundreds of old Dead shows and Bill's always there keeping things in line wherever the music goes. He's still got it.
@@maxw.midgett4975 not a popukar opinion in Deadheadland but Weir is the weakest link.
Hell yeah! Fg rocking so good to hear live music again.
This Thunder Burns 🔥!
Hot as it gets!
Just getting myself psyched for tonight's show at the Saenger in New Orleans!
Gets my seal of approval
The Kidz! High steppin’ into town...
There are no more replacements. It ended in 1995 . Let it rest. Enjoy cover bands and RUclips.
Saw this band in small venue in DC years ago... likely the best show I ever remember going to... figured it would be good but I was astonished how amazing it was
This is what I wished Dead and Company was, instead of what they are
these cats are havin' a blast , bs man oh man , took to that e-lectrick , dig dig digging' it
Billy still has that New Orleans- Reggae skank to his groove. So good and so hard to imitate!
This entire show was 🔥🔥🔥
I JUST got back from Denver...if only I stayed one more day
Womp womp womp
Glad to hear them doing a Billy (Strings) song (Thunder) too! It helps get into a groove when the artist sitting in can feel at home. I think it fits right in there...
Lyrics to that by Robert Hunter. A New Dead song? Yeah by me
@@ambassadorportal Wow! I didn't know that! Even better!!!
@@ambassadorportal Lyrics by Robert Hunter, music by William Apostol (a.k.a Billy Strings).
I'm new to the party...and I have to say that's the weirdest/best place I've ever seen a drummer put his hihats. Looks super relaxed!
He has one in the regular spot, but also has the one to the right of the snare that just stays in the closed position. Cool idea though.
Man it's wild that every once in awhile some one comes along spiritual baby🎉
I’m all Goosebumpy!😇
This is Excellent! I was there when Thunder debuted in KY!
Sounds awesome! Just add some Phil and it would blast off into space.
Great work Billy strings. You all rock very cool from Patti C
Was at this show, It was amazing. Much better than the camera captures.
Was there both nights. Agreed! Best live music in decades! Mon was better for me & I think was the better show. Wind & sprinkles on Tues affected the band & the overall experience even though great setlists both nights. So Many Roads on Mon!!!
God i hope this lineup keeps generating more "thunder" !!!! Hot shit man 💥🎶🔥🧡👌🏽🤘🏼🤙🏼
Enjoy the day and the music
Billy strings is on fire he might as well take John Mayer spot
He said himself mayer is too talented to be replaced, but he's still at the beginning of his career he's doing great man
I love his band and I hope he stays right where he is at.
Fact is, John Mayer couldn’t take Billy’s spot lol
Remember dead and co plays to bobs pace. John fills that space nicely. Billy thrives off the energy. It just wouldn't work. No need to hate on either. They are both incredible players!
@@highlonesome-coloradobluegrass Fuckin' A. Their chemistry is pretty epic...considering this lineup has been together for only a few years.... While this Billy K band sounds pretty good, BBR&J's harmonizing is so good, it's like blood harmonizing.... Hoping the current lineup stays together for a very long, long time.... Now, if they could just get Mailander to join permanently, that would be awesome.
How could you not love this!
They are on fire!
Im 66, grew up in New Haven, CT,... at 20 I moved to San Diego. Seen the GD many times... Never in my city.
This band really cooks !
When you zoom in so close you can see how much greens billy has left in his bowl while he shreds his orange amp, you know your gettin a good shot
Good eye brother
