      @@UniversalAudio So the answer is no. It's a straight up no. Ain't got nothing to do with a headroom knob.
      It's funny to me how, one of the most expensive plugin companies who pride them selves on re-creating hardware to softwar, to every component and to the tiniest detail, does not understand that these hardware units were literally made to be worked with TWO HANDS. U see we only have ONE MOUSE.
      Funny how in 2023 you ask for sky high prices while absolutely ingoring the most basic functions of these units.
      Headroom knob has absolutely nothing to do with it.
      Don't worry, I'm getting the new Softube Opto Compressor.
      They actually thought about the workflow, and being instantly able to hear what the compression is doing.
      Instead of having to go back and forth endless amounts of times, just not to get fooled by the loudness.
      (U guys should check it out, might learn sumn)

    • @UniversalAudio
      @UniversalAudio  2 года назад +1

      it's a "tilt" filter in the detection circuit/side chain. It'll make the compressor work harder in reaction to high end vs low end. This is great for compressing things like drum loops that have broadband frequency content.

    what does the HR thing do? sorry for basic question

    • @UniversalAudio
      @UniversalAudio  2 года назад +3

      HR stands for headroom and it allows you to gain stage through the plugin seamlessly in the background making the controls operate in your prefered "sweet spot". So for example, if you want less compression, rather than having to turn down the input, and then turn up the output, you can simply adjust the the HR screw to the left and it'll effectively do both of those things for you.

    Could you use the ae edition with the 'slo' mode on the mix bus? Is that slow enough? Is the Fairchild slow enough? Thanks

    • @UniversalAudio
      @UniversalAudio  Год назад

      Sure!! SLO mode is 10ms attack. The cool thing is, even if it starts to grab a bit, you can always use the Mix knob to let some of the dry sound through. Same with the Fairchild. It's got a fast attack time, but it's so smooth it's all good. And you've got the mix knob as well. Lots of fun stuff to play with!

      6 is the slowest, 400 microseconds. That's the one we use most. Although, with the mix knob, you can really use any of them successfully.

    I’m new to recording. I can def hear how compression adds to the drums etc here. My question is understanding when to add it…..for tracking i assume definitely. But then do you also add it again when you mix? I have to watch some more videos to learn but figured this was a good place to post this question. Thanks

    • @stevea9248
      @stevea9248 Год назад

      I'm 70's-80's old school, so I'll give you my take. There's "limiting" and there's "compressing." Sometimes if you do too much in the recording process, you can't undo in the mix. So for recording, use the 1176 to limit an uncontrolled incoming signal so you don't distort with too much gain...usually around -5db. In the mix you may hear a track go loud and then soft (an inexperienced singer). This is where you can tighten up the dynamic range with compression, bringing the lower volumes up to the middle ground and maintaining a more natural vocal range. Or use as described in the video for punch and sound. Remember, the video uses a pre-recorded track to experiment with.
