Why? Plugin Alliance already has a great version. I was literally with Michael Brauer and he was using it on every single track 😂 UAD isn't all the best. Hell, some of the UAD sht is literally identical to what plugin alliance has (mainly bx plugins) but cost 8x more.

Great to see another video like this. This plugin really sounds amazing when it is pushed a little harder, very happy with my purchase a couple of years back
If only people new how good your console is... I have used compressors before but none as easy and intuitive as it is. Many thanks for your great products.

Definitely - each of those compressors have their own tone and response characteristics that will make them sound and behave differently from each other.
Great Video, thanks! I have an unrelated question. I am a brand new member to the UAD platform. I am wondering if I would be able to swap out one plugin for another by any chance? I thought I saw a list of plugins that UA allowed you to exchange somewhere online. Please help!
Thank you so much for this video. I just do voiceovers, so am trying to figure out how I can best apply the Fairchild to make my narration have the added velvety warmth and presence that this plug-in can bring. From what you mentioned, it sounds like the 660 would be best? Also, as I explore the settings in the 660, I found "Vocal Light Compression" as an option but don't know if that is the best one for my use. My question... could you please recommend what you think would be the best starting settings for spoken vocals/narration (and I can adjust from there)? Thank you in advance for any suggestions 🙏
You can use either. Start with the Vocal Light Compression preset, but then raise the SC filter to around 10-11 o'clock. This will make the comp less sensitive to low end and allow for smoother compression overall. And don't be afraid to turn up the Input Gain, this drives your signal into the model more and can result in pleasing saturation and tone enhancements. Hope this helps.
@@UniversalAudio oddly enough, I did everything you said, but started from the Rap vocal setting instead, with a few adjustments for my own voice, mic, and low speaking volume. I keep the processing effect light, but I think it is subtly noticeable and adds presence. Thanks again!
These units (and the plugin) are often used in Mastering chains for their beautiful color and tone and for controlling dynamics, but if you mean for the final, end of chain peak/brickwall limiter, no, it does not serve that function. You'll still want your digital limiter at the end of the chain.
When I use lat/vert mode, with Sidechain and controls unlinked, the input gains are still controlling the left and right channels, not just the mid and side. You can actually hear it doing that in this video. Is this normal? From what I understood it was supposed to be true mid side processing.
You should look at RMS level, not volume level. If compressed signal has the same RMS level as uncompressed signal, it will be perceived as louder at same volume. To correctly see this you have to gain stage signal, at around -18 RMS before it goes into emulation plug-ins.
Yes, the legacy can be thought of as "lite" versions since they do not have the end to end modeling that contains all the nonlinearities of the original hardware.
Bought apollo solo but it has been useless coz I cant use more than 2 or 3 plugin before DSP overload occur .lately been feeling like a waste of money on the solo..I hope this helps someone planning on buying solo thunderbolt
I don’t think the solo was meant to be used for mixing. I see it more for a mobile recording where you can use Unison while recording, but not really for using the plugins in your session, cuz yeah, not much DSP. I have a twin and I have to be very strategic with what plugins I use in my session. That’s the beauty of UAD now going native tho.
Sell it. I sold my Apollo Twin x Quad (and all the plugins). I then repurchased most of them from the original developers and no longer need to have an Apollo connected, or iLock, or internet... and I bought them for like half the price I sold my UA licences for. Add the cash I got for the Apollo and I made out like a bandit. Enjoying running as many as I want (no longer choked with Apollo DSP) and with the freedom of working anywhere with just my laptop.
@@UniversalAudio I don't understand. I've only used plugins which allow me to select an input trigger source from my channels. Is there any video example?

My number one question is not how good it sounds, or if I can afford it, or how to use it. The only thing that would make me hesitate to pull the trigger on one of these is how much CPU and RAM does it consume. I'm running Logic on a small MacBook. if this plug in is a resource hog, I'm concerned about it slowing everything down or crashing. Nobody is mentioning what the computers requirements are to run this thing.

It adjusts the bias current balance of the circuit. Check out the manual for more details.
