This video made my day! I have one of these a ‘70 650, it’s never been ridden like this! To see one welded answered a question that I’ve had for 40 years. Brilliant! Thank you!!
Just bought one of these frames from Wasp (Rind Tutt) for my Triumph Metisse 500 that was originally built by Brian Nadin in 1991. Went into the Chells hands then mine had it for five years now, fabulous machine. Here I am in fact at Narbeth West Wales '13 1st and two seconds ha ha.
The Reynolds 531 alloy steel tubing used once on the Rickmans cannot be welded. There are plenty of brazed structures as the TGV wagons, automobile chassis, plane frames etc as a lot of special steel alloys cannot be welded.
@@MrAluminox Reynolds 531 steel tubing is perfectly OK to bronze weld. My double engined Triumph drag bike has Reynolds 531 frame welded in 1969 and is still perfectly OK. I am aware brazing in a furnace usually with sweated lugs is a different process. The Reynolds 531 booklet I still have recommends bronze welding.
I have always liked the 650 Metisse . but being 6.3 foot tall, the bike is small for me to sit on. its a shame they don't make them a little taller. But the guys back then were short.
Stubby Cuts Thanks for the info, is it the oxy line that goes through or the acetylene. I don't do a lot of bronze-welding but may be one day I might try the gas flux, I usually use the tub of flux powder but it does leave a mess on the weld when finished. Ally welding with gas is my forte although I'm a spark by trade! Cheers. Pete.
Sadly they are utter crap build quality. I made the mistake and dropped £15k on one. After a 20 mile (oil covered) ride the bike went to SRM for a survey. The bike had been wired up incorrectly, the frame wasn’t straight, the engine had 60” piston in an 80” bore, the gearbox was cracked and crankcases didn’t match. The hollow breather cam had been replaced by a solid cam so the engine couldn’t breathe, the rear break light had been connected to the brake obis a eve of chain link. The sit on but the eventually for repair up to the standard I should age river it was £10k. Even after all this the bike can’t be registered due to the fact Jerry took the frame numbers out the back of the Rickman book and stamped up new frames! DVLA shut him down yet he still sells them.DVLA has also removed the region dents over 150 of the original limited edition Steve MQueen bikes
Best use of a golf course I've seen so far!
Best soundtrack to a frame build, ever.

Artisan at work, you can appreciate the amount of work involved
WOW! Bloody brilliant! I love to see a golf course being used for something useful! And did I say "WOW", love that MkV - What a bike!
Oh yes, and let's hope a few club members were left apoplectic.
pick the stupid music off I want to hear the motorcycle not the music
a work of art...and that brazing work is incredible
That brazing is phenomenal!
Bud Eakins would be happy to see this
Nickle plated perfection !
That is some beautiful welding...and a iconic bike !
Not welding, brazing with bronze, not brass. The Reynolds 531 alloy steel tubing cannot be welded.
That is some damn pretty welding. The sort you could cut out, frame and hang on the wall
Love it! Classic in every sense of the word! Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Punaise, quel artiste de la soudure... incroyable. BRAVO.
I just went from 6 to noon. Lol glad I stumbled upon this video. Thank you.
I love to weld too...Much respect from Canada and USA..Oh! nice work..
Proper bike, love it.
Pleased to see bronze-welding (brazing) is still being used.
Me too, it is still perfectly acceptable.

Brazing and Bronzewelding are two different processes Pete.

Same here. I've put together 4 bikes sofar with brazing. I wish more people were still keeping this technique alive.
Super nice work..by the way also a super nice music taste 👌
I was so impressed with the quality I displayed my MKIII on the dining room table .
I would park the beauty in the bedroom!
This is bronze welding when a bead is formed on the surface of the joint, brazing uses capillary action to draw the filler into the joint.
Remember Don and Derek Richman at Beenham scrambling, pair of champs in their days !!
love this bikes.
I love welding..Much respect from Canada.
Brazing
American Chopper need to watch this video to see how it's done!
The real deal!
They’re too busy decorating wedding cakes.
Good to see that you've changed the bend in those Mk 5 pipes to upswept.. Will that bend be seen on production bikes?
All oh' dat', and the Lizard King too!.
Is it possible to buy the plans so one can make the frame themselves?
I just fabricated an intake manifold for a 71 Daytona. I should have brazed it instead of welding.
Why no hydraulic clutch?

Lovely brazing. Puts my efforts to shame.
Super !!!
Craftsmanship👍😍🤯
is it your own engine in the desert racer.
I assume you are using a gas flux, or is the rod pre-fluxed?
Correct Pete, gas fed through the line. Makes my job a whole lot easier!

Pete Williams P.S. lovely frames.
Unico errore?....Andare ha cromare un capolavoro di telaio, avrei dato solo un trasparente....
Nice note out of them pipes, lovely bike, just be careful of your bollocks on the barbwire, showing off now.
no wonder they were making there own engines now, those triumph powerplants will ran out some day or the other.
Tune. Bike. 😎
Bloody hell !
The Triumph engine looks better 100%.
