- This Drill Press Table with Dust Collection is one of those projects I've been wanting to build for a couple of years now. Well I finally got around to it. Don't know why I waited as it's a pretty easy project to build!
It is packed with many great features that include dust collection tunnel incorporated in the fence, T-Tracts to secure and move the fence as well as offering hold down clamp locations and a removable table insert.

I may have to build one just like it. Including the walnut plug! I love it!
Thanks for the great video. Really good idea on the dust collection.
Thank you and thanks for watching 👍
The dust collection idea on this fence is great - very clever. Thank you for posting this.
You’re welcome and thanks for watching!👍
Using a jigsaw to me is a necessary evil. But the way you used chisels to clean up the insert is brilliant. Can't wait to try it out.
Yep, works great! Hope it works well for you too👍 Thanks for watching 👍
Very helpful and informative, also thank you for keeping it simple
You’re welcome and thanks for watching 👍
Great work John. I love the idea. I will be using your idea to make a similar one for my press. Thanks for the video. Subscribed!
The angled path for dust collection is very clever. My current fence has great dust collection - but because it connects at the center, I often have to remove the fence completely - and the dust collection - to be able to reach where I need to drill.
Thank you and thanks for watching 👍
Enjoyed your video. Great information and editing. I liked the pace of the video with some fast motion and no annoying music. I’m going to add your dust collection idea to my fence.
Nice build - I know that I'm late to the party, but a suggestion for anyone building this - when it comes to gluing up the top and bottom sheets, put the glue on the top, that way you avoid getting it in the area of the insert.
Ya, I was careful not to get close and had guide lines to go by. But that’s still a great idea 👍 Thanks for sharing and watching 👍
That’s such an awesome shop project. This just got added to my future builds for when I get a big boy press back in the states. Love the dust collection.
Ya man, As I said in the video, I'm super happy to finally have this. Can't believe I waited this long to make it! How much longer till you're back in the states?
I like the offset sacrificial square - use all four quadrants before replacing.
What about stop blocks on fence for repeatable holes?
For the threaded inserts, you could have made the holes with a drill press. Guaranteed straight and with a depth stop.
As for the walnut plug, you can now call the table “Cindy Crawford”.
Very true and love that name! Thanks for watching!
Nice, simple & easy to make table... exactly what I'm looking for my bench top drill press. All I need to do is adjust its size to match. Tx!
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching!
Just what I was looking for! You motivated me!
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Looks great John! Having a bit of dust collection on the drill press would be so nice!
Thanks Grant 👍 Ya, I’m super happy to have it now. Now I just need to get around to running dust collection along the walls to each tool. The list is never ending!😬😆
Fantastic design!
Thank you very much!
If you make a half circle shape (think arched doorway maybe) out of the walls of a clear plastic cup or clear plastic packaging and figure out your own way to attach to the fence it can create a cyclone effect and catch almost all the chips for bigger bits like forstners. Not hard to sweep the chips at the end but this saves you some work for the cost of a few more seconds of setup. And as woodworkers we should be used to spending time setting things up, right? Great fence DC design!
Sweet build!
Thank you!
Looks good John!
Thanks Jim👍 Let me know if and when you want that sanding storage 👍
Very clever, sir. It never dawned on me but I dont recall seeing anyone make a dust collection for a drill press. Well done, sir
Ya, there's a few others out there. Not sure anyone has the same tunnel design or not. Either way, it works and happy to finally have it!
Thank you for your great video and all the links to buy the supplies.
You’re welcome and thanks for watching!
Nice, neat and practical. Easy to built without requiring specialist equipment. Thanks :-)
No problem and thanks for watching!
With some mods this can be used as a bandsaw table too, very nice and thanks.
how many golks went to the end to see the finished product without watching the entire video.....
Veryy good
Thank you!
Very nice. I’m going to borrow a couple ideas from this, notably the dust collection in the fence.
Thank you! And go for it!
Don't you love that sliding Incra Rule? I love mine.
Yep, sure do👍 Use it all the time!
Great drill press table and fence. Love the dust collection. I was wondering where go got the dado insert from??
Thank you! I just added the link into the description👍
Yes, I am currently using the stupid stock table and it annoys the $* outta me. This is a genius level table. I love the removable insert that you can change out. Great work, I might be back for those plans soon...
Ya, I can't believe I didn't build this sooner myself! Heck, even if someone doesn't have dust collection yet this still makes a great table for the drill press👍 It's an easy build so get to building now! Don't wait!👍😃
One could add a T track on the fence for stop blocks too.
Very true. Actually thought about doing that but decided not to. Thanks for watching!
You may want to add a washer under the star knobs
Yep, figured that one out pretty quick after making the video👍 Kept wondering why the nut kept pulling out of the star knob.
or can you have the pattern please thank you
I’m always wondering about this, do you really need the T track to come all the way to the edge of the table top? In what situation would you move the fence beyond where the drill could make a hole in your work?
Not every project piece of wood is straight. Say you had a piece of wood that was an odd shape that wouldn't lay up against the fence. The extra length will allow more room to clamp. Have I ever needed that extra room near the edge yet, I don't remember. Basically, it just gives more options should the need arise.
But also it's just easier to install the track this way to allow the clamps to slide into the track easier.
Anyway, hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching!
Allows for addition of things like T-track clamps without having to take off fence and access from back.
what is the layout tool you're using at 1:50? looks like a very useful tool!
Yes, I love that tool. It's an Incra T-square. Thanks for watching!
I never have understood why people build dust collection like this. It is only usable when drilling close to the inlet and completely unusable if the drill stock is above the inlet. The best way to remedy this is to build a vacuum hose holder that can be infinitely adjusted to vac exactly where needed. I mounted my holder to the column. Won't take credit for it as I got the idea off RUclips. Just Query drill press dust collection and you'll find plenty of options.
Why does the fence on a drill press table have to be square with the table top. I have seen many RUclips videos on making a drill press table and most of them try to square up the fence with the table top. Yours is no exception. Take a look at my video called "Build an easy Drill Press Guide" that I made and see if you agree with me. Once you clamp the fence and you have the correct distance between the fence and the center of the drill bit, all holes drilled with be uniform. View my RUclips video and leave me a comment. I do like the dust collection you built into the fence. I may alter mine to do this.
The fence doesn't have to be square so I totally agree with you. Haven't re-watched my video in a while so not sure if I said that or not. Doubt I did but if I did that was a mistake or has been miss understood. The T-tracks in the base of the table allow the fence to slide back and forth and can be angled quite a bit. Just as you said, once the fence at any angle is tight, it doesn't matter. The dust collection may not be perfect but it is a whole lot better then nothing. Thanks for watching!
That table is not even close to being a great drill press table until you have motorized it as I have just press a button the table goes up or down.
